Todd Bowles: Bucs Are Not A Field Goal Offense

October 19th, 2026

Kicker Chase McLaughlin

The absolute best way to keep a team in the game is to trade field goals for touchdowns with your opponent.

Joe offers up the Cleveland loss. The Bucs were content with kicking field goals. The Bucs were only too happy to kick field goals and pass on touchdowns. They kicked four field goals in the game. They lost 23-19.

The Bucs yesterday led 16-3 in the second half, kicking three field goals. You know how the game ended.

Bowles was asked after the game if the Bucs rely on place kicker Chase McLaughlin too much. That didn’t seem to go over well with Bowles.

“No, we’re not relying on him,” Bowles said. “We’re just not executing on third down, or we shoot ourselves in the foot and we have to kick a field goal, but we [have] to convert more, and we [have] to get in more third-and-manageable situations.”

How about forgetting third-and-manageable and instead, focus on moving the chains on first and second downs.

If an offense’s goal is to get to third-and-manageable, that just screams ball control, keep-it-close offense. And when you do that, a key element of the offense is going to be field goals, whether you like it or not.

To avoid kicking field goals an offense must be aggressive. Zac Robinson’s offense is about as backward as an offense can be with all the passes behind the line of scrimmage or three-yard outs to the sideline.

Running Bucky Irving up the middle for two yards just screams “kick field goals.”

Give it up Todd. No one is buying your BS anymore

Seen someone on Twitter say Josina Anderson is hinting at the Bucs, wanting Mike Tomlin.. that’ll be a big mistake. We need to go with an OFFENSIVE minded head coach. Also when Tomlin was with the Steelers he didn’t do anything in years.

How many 1st downs were wasted with a predictable run up the middle for less than 3 yards?

But let’s go back to the subject of the thread, us not being a FG team… Through 6 weeks, we’ve scored 10 TDs and 10 FGs, while failing to score any points on the other 49 drives we’ve had, which means 71.4% of our drives have resulted in zero points.

That’s pretty bad. The crazy thing is that for the season, we’ve allowed 112 points total, while scoring 100 total. 12 pt scoring differential over 6 games… AKA we are the best at losing 1 score games.

You know what keeps games close, and results in a lot of 1 score games? Kicking FGs…

Overreact all anyone wants. This was one of Bowles better coached games. They were in it until the end and had a chance. That’s really all anyone should hope for. Extend Todd now.

  5. GMC hater Says:

When your best player is the kicker you know something is seriously wrong! Why would any self respecting Bucs fan waste their money to watch this joke of a team lose at the Den of Depression over and over again!! Bucs fans are sitting at home talking draft!

  6. Leopold Stotch Says:

Could have fooled me. Although Chase has been amazing for my fantasy team

  7. Mhystc Says:

Go ahead and extend Chase. He needs to retire a Buc. Our best most consistent player by far.

If your plan is to create an environment for opposing fan bases to come down to Tampa, enjoy the warm weather, and get an easy victory, you’ve succeeded.

Kicking FG’s instead of scoring TD’s is the perfect recipe for this cow manure pie Todd Bowles serves up weekly.

How do you follow up starting 5-1 then collapsing to 3-8 and keep the confidence of ownership and the media??

Go 1-5 the next season and you get to keep your job. Pure genius!!!

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

The Glazers have to fire Todd in January. Licht should not be safe either.

  10. McBay Says:

Two field goals is as good as a touchdown. Some bad calls by the usual anti-Bowles referees were again a big factor in that game. We should be proud of the way Todd’s guys fought,

  11. SkunkApe Says:

He’s lost everything. His approval rating is even lower than you know who.

  12. SkunkApe Says:

    *everyone

  13. PortlandBucsFan Says:

Well Todd, you better tell that to your guys because that seems to be about all that they can muster up consistently at this point. What a disappointing group but more so the not so coordinated coordinator.

  14. Mikw Says:

Get an offensive coordinator who knows what the hell to do with the players he has

  15. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

The best way to give away games is having an inept Head Coach. We knew this at the end of last year, but somehow the Glazers couldn’t figure it out.

  16. MadMax Says:

    Turtle todd

  17. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

I don’t watch Bowles interviews, it’s a waste of time, but I wonder if he said “We were close to winning”, or some garbage like that.
