Todd Bowles May Not Think So, But Bucs Are Broken

October 18th, 2026

Team is doomed.

Does this look like a well-coached team to you?

The defense may play good football — until crunch time.

The offense? What a joke. Name one player (with the exception of Tristan Wirfs) who is playing up to his talent level on offense? The offense is horribly coached.

This team is broken. But KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles doesn’t think so, and he doesn’t believe they may become broken.

Bowles was asked how he plans to keep the team together when it looks like it is a matter of time before it’s every man for himself. Bowles wouldn’t go there.

“We got a good group of guys,” Bowles said. “We’re not going to break. I mean, we got a good brotherhood in that locker room. That’s the least of our worries.”

Bowles may be right about the bond of the Bucs being the least of their worries. Because their main worries now are where they are going to work next year, where they are going to live next year, where their kids will go to school next year, or whether they will work again in the NFL.

Those are the worries right now. Joe doesn’t know how anyone can argue that this coaching staff should return intact next year.

The team may not break, Bowles said. That’s because it is already broken.

This is why Mike left. We’re broken.

  2. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

Wasn’t it “all the rest of his coaches” fault at the end of last year? Such a bad decision to keep him. We’ve wasted so much talent and know they’re all old. Clean house – coaching staff FIRST!

  3. HeartyDickerson Says:

Bowles isn’t worried about any of that. He knows he’s retiring after he gets fired. Gets to lounge on the couch collecting seven figures for the next 2 years.

He already admitted this was his last gig, which made it that much more baffling to give him that extension.

  4. Agust 1976 Buc Says:

    Tick tock….tick tock…

Only when this team has a new HC will it have a chance to go forward.

Bye Bye Coach Bowles, your a decent man, but a BAD Head COACH.

Not everyone is good at everything.

Hello Jan 2027 how are you doing, what do you bring to this franchise.

  5. Hodad Says:

It’s never to early lining up a realtor, and a moving company. The bye week would be a good time for a yard sale, throw whatever you don’t sell away.

  6. ATLBuc Says:

he only thing broken about the Bucs are the DC who dumoed a great scheme to play prevent in the 4th quarter and an OC who took his foot off the gas and started playing prevent offense in the 4th quarter. As we saw for three quarters, the players are fine.

  7. BUCDADDY Says:

Yeah, this team sucks! I’m not drunk anymore and reality set in. Baker, Jalon, it don’t matter. You guys can argue about the qb all you want. This team is not good. The o-lune sucks, the receivers suck, the coaching staff sucks, and they can’t win when leading by 13. This team just sucks. At least at worst we’ll get the second pick in the draft, but Miami is better than us and should finish better than us. So, at least that’s good news for us being the worst team in football. Boo Bucs! They suck!

  8. buc4evr Says:

Broken is the wrong word. I have another word but I can’t say it here. Hopefully the owners will clean house after the season and also get rid of Licht. We don’t need him to ruin a high draft pick again.

  9. Will008 Says:

I’m worried a bit about Wirfs too. Everybody was bad on offense today. Anyway, LETS GO RAYS

  10. Will008 Says:

Nice try there BUCDADDY, the Bucs are not bad enough for a top three pick and not good enough to make the playoffs. The worst position.

  11. Jarrett Says:

I am genuinely confused why fans still want to win this season

    ?

    Fire Todd Bowles for what

We actually have a chance to draft Arch Manning right now

Life is good. And the Bucs defense actually looks competent right now

We will have great position in the draft

We all know that is Licht favorite thing anyway

Why win when you can draft

The sky isn’t falling … this is a rebuilding year

Baker is a bridge QB anyway we were never contenders

Baker ain’t Josh Allen and he ain’t Mahommes anyway

The faster we get rid of baker the better off we will be

  12. Itzok Says:

walk the plank. bowles should resign

hes approaching schiano territory. he may be worse considering he ruined brady and made evans leave. hell i ended my season tickets necause of this clown

  13. Will008 Says:

ARCH MANNING? WHO the hell wants that guy??

  14. Jarrett Says:

If we have Arch Manning fall into our lap then so be it

Let Arch sit for a year behind Mayfield

This season is going great in my opinion

    -The pass rush is improved

-Our corners aren’t great but better than expected

-we have great draft position and pass rush is no longer a need

  15. Oxycondomns Says:

inagine bring the trash of the worst division in the nfl . its a joke having a backup qb that went undrafted. packers and steelers were winnable games

  16. Oxycondomns Says:

  17. JimBobBuc Says:

Not enough players HATE to lose. The OL is terrible and even Baker’s energy next week won’t save the season.

  18. Popcornmike67 Says:

The Bucs are starting to look like the worst team in the NFL. What’s so frustrating is, the talent that’s on this team. I do understand that the QB room is not that good Mayfield is decent but, is he a franchise QB? Daniel’s need some time

  19. ModHairKen Says:

Broken? What? Why would you think they are broken.

Is it because they are 1-5???!!!!?????

Nah. They are just fine. 3-14 on the horizon and that is just fine!

It’s not the wins! It’s not championships!!!

    Not broken my ass.

  20. ATLBuc Says:

Arch Manning???? You’re just calling a familiar name. If you saw what my Gators did to him Saturday you would know he’s garbage.

  21. BA’s Red Pen Says:

It’s time we stop blaming Bowles, the owners are the dumb a$$e$ that decided to bring him back after last year’s debacle.

  22. Coburn Says:

Was I the only one that thought Daniels first interception was Bs? I haven’t seen it mentioned. I was thinking I don’t even know if he got one foot down before ball stopped moving, let alone two. That and the pass interference where Metcalf pushes Parrish..

  23. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-PLEASE? Says:

hee hee – I would love to see the Bowles & Licht press conferences devolve into the hostile scrums common in the political world – shouting , cursing , Bowles integrity questioned , Licht honesty questioned, press bans , league investigations and fines – hilarious

  24. GMC hater Says:

How many home losses does it take to bring back the Den of Depression name?!

  25. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

The Bucs have won about 17% of their games this year, not bad for having a special needs HC. Let me guess, in the post game presser he said the Bucs came close, then added that close doesn’t matter. He’s right, it doesn’t matter, but why bring it up, then?

  26. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Arch should be working at the Golden Arches, running the deep fryer.

  27. Seemore Bucs Says:

    No thanks on Cooper’s kid.

  28. mistermarty Says:

Bowels if so afraid of giving up the big play it demoralizes the offense and defense. Stubborn and unwilling to adjust to talent. The DB’s have played well this year, they just get bored giving up 12 yard cushions. Daniels cannot throw a NFL long out. That is why he went undrafted. In addition Egbuka can’t sell it because he has not established he can fight for the deep ball. Real simple.

  29. Confido75 Says:

Per Claude, “Licht and Bowles rank 9 out of the 11 active GM and head coach pairs that have worked together for at least three full seasons.” Its not working and they need to go.

  30. RTG_BUCS Says:

Blowes may not think the Bucs are broken, but they are. And they are broken because of him.

  31. 3 and 28 curse continues Says:

If Dallas does not drop the pick six, it probably wins the game just like the Pittsburgh. SMH

  32. Fanofdabucs Says:

This site is so void of knowledge football fans it’s laughable.

So some idiots want to the Bucs to lose so they can draft Archie Manning???

Do you even watch football or you see a name and want him?

Manning might be the most over hyped and overrated player in college football.

My Gosh there are so many clueless people in here.

  33. Confido75 Says:

Here is what Claude AI says based on all stats and history…I would keep Jason Licht, move on from Todd Bowles, and make the next coaching hire Licht’s last chance.

  34. Frank Pillow Says:

I’m not going to condemn Todd for this D. Sure, they bend and then break when it matters most…but when the OC schemes up less than 5 yards of total O in the 4th qtr, it leaves the D gassed. What’s happening on O is a crime against football. The routes are terrible. The runs are horrendous. Nearly everything happens in front of the D. It’s all so bad. Not going to get better until they change the nameplate on the HC’s door.

  35. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

@Frank, he’s the head coach. He was the head coach last year. He was the head coach the year before. He sucks no matter who under him he tries to blame when his defense plays good or bad.

  36. CBucs Says:

Jarrett, losing enough games for a high pick means a commitment to the tank. Bowles is coaching not to get fired mid-season, not much else. I’m pretty sure he knows he’s gone.

I also thought they could lose their way to a high pick, now not so sure, could be 4 or 5 if Baker comes back strong. Which would be predictable for Mayfield, if healthy.

The best way to commit to the tank is for Licht to start dismantling the team in season. But Licht is trying to save his job as well, so the only way to do that would be an edict from the Glazers. Not holding my breath.

  37. Sam Says:

Glazers could have fixed this last season. This is all their fault at this point.

  38. TheScourge Says:

This team is 3-12 since the bye last year. His words don’t match what we’re seeing. The only difference is now the fanbase is broken too. Just look at the crowd today! It’s going to take years to get back to respectable.

  39. Rocket10 Says:

Sorry not gonna jump on the fire Bowles bandwagon. This team does not look dysfunctional or like they’ve quit. All 5 losses within one score. Early on the O line was struggling with protection schemes. The criticism of Mayfield for turnovers was legit, but not legit for holding the ball too long, heck most routes took too long by design with a dump off to a back as a strategy. The O line is improving and maybe in an attempt to help the rookie QB they’ve gone with quicker developing routes. The defense sure as heck has improved.
Daniels is a more than competent backup with a bright future. Too many dropped balls, and turnovers are not a sign of quitting, maybe bad luck or bad talent

  40. BakerFan Says:

This article is about 9 months to late and the Glazers just keep making money by opposing teams filling up their stadium. What a good business model, suck but still sell tickets to the opposing team fans who will vacation and catch a game.

  41. MelvinJunior Says:

They are lacking the TALENT. PERIOD. I thought EE and Godwin were both, AWFUL today. And, the play-calling was also HORRIFIC.

  43. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

@Rocket10, we were watching the Bucs game tonight. Were you? The “fire Bowles Bandwagon”? Where have you been. The Fire Bowles Freight Train got rolling 2 1/2 years ago, even before the Joes hopped on!

  44. Popcornmike67 Says:

After reading Mike Evans latest interview, I now have a good understanding to why he left. A change of scenery a team that wants to win now is just a few things he said. Sure sounds like after Bowles was retain that cemented his decision to leave Tampa

    ……………
LOL, have you seen Arch Manning even play before? The last 2 games against teams that are horrible he has lost. This dude is living off generational Notoriety and I pity the team that drafts him. Some kid in high school got cheated out of playing time because of the Manning name.

  46. Show Me Your TDs Says:

Yeah, they suck, but broken? What a load of hyperbole! What is this, TMZ? Name some others on offense playing to their talent level? Daniels, Irving, Tez. I wouldn’t include the only one you mentioned. Wirfs.

  47. gotbbucs Says:

Bowles is just an Ostrich with his head in the sand.

The defense playing well has nothing to do with Bowles ability to be a head coach in the NFL. They spent all the free agent money and draft picks on the defense. It should be playing well.

Bowles is a joke as a head coach. Was given the job in a ridiculous little coupe d’etat by Arians that left the organization in the lurch.
Licht has serious disconnect problems with his coaching staff’s, going way back to early in his tenure here. The roster is either being poorly used by the coaching staff or the roster isnt good enough. My personal opinion is this offensive roster is JV level at the skill positions and the defensive roster is being held back by the scheme.

Bottom line is no matter how you spin it, this is organizational failure.

  48. GenocideD Says:

Here’s to bowles being asked to do “other things”…soon.

  49. Show Me Your TDs Says:

The Bucs are a young, talented team that plays their asses off. All they need is better Head and Offensive coaching. Hire the right HC, and OC and DC and this team will do a 180 next year.

  50. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

Mike could have done us all a solid and have just been forthright from the beginning in his exit interview. I am leaving because of Todd Bowles.

  51. Mhystc Says:

Whole staff needs to fired. Jason Licht, needs to also go.. also. Start fresh.

  52. Lightningvinny1 Says:

  53. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

4-13 in the last 17 games. Not broken? Correct, it’s shattered in 1000 pieces.

Pack the cannons with Bowels and Licht and fire them into the Bay!!!

Do the Glazers even watch the games anymore????

  54. D-Rome Says:

    Well said, Joe.

  55. adam from ny Says:

    lol at jarrett…

arch manning is playing so poorly he might actually opt in for another year in college…i kid you not…

you want carr @ notre dame jarrett…you just don’t know it yet…or one of the other handful of good qb’s…

unless you just draft a guy because his last name is royalty in the nfl

  56. adam from ny Says:

    ponder this:

    bowles took our re-built culture…and re-broke it

  57. D-Rome Says:

This is why Mike left. We’re broken.

Well said. Mike has been on among the worst and best Buc teams of all time. He knew this was coming, or at the very least not nearly as good as advertised.

  58. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

Dang, Mike McCarthy sprains his ankle and doesn’t even make it to the halftime locker room and still adjusts better than Todd Bowles ever does at halftime.

  59. Saskbucs Says:

Firing Licht would be a mistake. We see talent on the field every week.

The worst OC in the league, a UDFA starting QB and it should have been 13-0 at the half.

The roster is fine! We have the worst coaches in the league!

You keep Licht, make the right coaching hires and in 2027 the Bucs are one of those teams that goes from 4-13 to 12-5. Guaranteed!

Pats, Jags and Raiders (not going to that many wins) are very recent examples of changing coaches and immediately upping the win total but a significant margin. If Bucs had Coen and a decent DC running this team the last 2 years Bucs would be about 17-6 right now in last 23 games instead of 4-19 or whatever it is.

Then you dummies wouldn’t be griping about the GM and talent. It’s right in front of our faces, don’t know how most of you don’t get it.

  60. Saskbucs Says:

The only reason to fire Licht is because he allowed this Bowles nonsense to go on way too long. Somehow he didn’t see it either and that’s almost a fireable offence!

But the roster building and talent acquisitions are not the issue.

  61. Bosch Says:

Bowels has no choice but to not admit it. Admitting it would be akin to saying ‘I am a failure.”

  62. Bosch Says:

    And indeed he is.

  63. RodMunchisBakersThumb Says:

@SaskBucs, some people are gonna tell you that Licht doesn’t make the decisions about head coaches, only players. I don’t fully buy that. You can’t tell me that if he went to the Glazers and said this guy is not getting everything we need out of this talent, that would not have spoke volumes. He clearly supported this clown.

  64. Obvious Says:

If you’ve ever let someone go for performance reasons you know they fall into three buckets:

    1) never saw it coming – indicates they live in a different reality

    2) try to negotiate – indicates they understood the lack of results but believes there’s a scenario where they can blame other circumstances

    3) gets it

Despite the public responses, Todd is in bucket #3. There’s no reason for him to broadcast his own failures. He’d be an idiot to do otherwise

  65. SoCalBucsFan79 Says:

Let’s kill this fantasy outright: boycotting Buccaneers home games doesn’t hurt the Glazers. At all.
Live gate is roughly 17% of NFL team revenue. That’s why the league cruised through a season of empty stadiums during COVID without losing sleep. The money comes from national TV deals, streaming, sponsorships, and league‑wide revenue sharing — not whether Section 342 shows up angry.

The Glazers bought the team for $192M and now sit on a $8.7–$9.1B asset. That’s a 45x return before counting annual profits. There is no universe where they panic because fans skip a Sunday.

If anything, the move that actually maximizes their long‑term revenue isn’t soothing a mid‑market fan base — it’s planting the NFL’s first permanent flag in London. The league has wanted a European anchor for years, and the first mover gets the sweetheart stadium deal, political backing, and global branding upside. Meanwhile, Raymond James needs a $1B+ renovation, the lease expires in 2028, and nothing is approved. Tampa’s leverage is paper‑thin.

So if the goal is “hurt the owners,” boycotting is a rounding error. The TV money keeps flowing, the valuation keeps climbing, and the Glazers keep cashing checks.

In fact, a mass boycott just signals the market is soft — which only strengthens the relocation argument. If firing the head coach was supposedly overdue 2.5 years ago, then filing relocation papers would’ve been the logical companion move. Who wouldn’t trade for a world city (alpha+++) — a global economic hub that directs international capital flows — for a gamma‑tier metro whose influence is mostly regional. If you want to make that swap easier for ownership, boycotting is the fastest way to help them pack. You’re lack of loyalty will be paid 45x times over.

    Seriously?

Randy Gregory.. Hassan Reddick. Anzalone etc, etc. .. and then the horrendous draft picks that are too many to mention.

Licht is not a good GM.

  69. Reggie Windham Says:

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. When were pressuring Rodgers, the defense looked good. Why did we stop?? The offense is so predictable and pathetic. Yes, the rookie made mistakes however, the run the ball on first down for two yards mentality is putting your Qb in a bad situation on third downs. This team is hard to watch. FIRE BOWLES AND ROBINSON IMMEDIATELY

  70. Let em bake Says:

Fire sale inevitable. Godwin, Winfield, Yaya, just to name a few.

  71. DBS Says:

If the Glazer’s were angry about the total collapse last season Bowles wouldn’t be here I believe. They had no problem firing a coach with a winning season going until Monte’s quitters quit on him. And we all know who those famous quitters were.

  72. Aceofaerospace Says:

It’s all on the owners for not giving a rats ass about the outrage this fan base has. I just pray they sell the team. They’re a bunch of rich yahoos living off the money their daddy made. None of them deserve to own an NFL team.

  73. Citrus County Says:

I truly don’t care anymore and haven’t for quite some time. I follow this site just to remind myself why I don’t care.

What the owners do in the next 48 hours will tell the dying fan base everything they need to know.

It is now s… or get off the pot time for the owners.

  74. Buc1987 Says:

2 questions….1 for Bowles and 1 for Joe.

For Todd….how many games out of first place are we now?

For Joe….when is this winning streak going start?

  75. Rocket10 Says:

What good would it do to fire Bowles during the season. You only do that if the team has quit on him or you have a potential head coach on your staff
Wait until the season is over.
Also anyone advocating taking the ball first in OT is a moron

  76. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

If this team was well coached they be a 8-9 ball club. However holes on the roster are more glaring without good coaching. Are biggest problem right now is we have no weapons at WR. They can’t get open they don’t catch the ball much it’s impossible to win in this league with no playmakers on the field.

Forget Qb tank and draft the Ohio State WR to give defenses something to worry about.

Baker will again be changing offensive coordinators these year. Revolving door.

I’ve seen rumors Liam Cohan offensive coordinator would be somebody we might target.

  77. Tucker Says:

A guy who knows none of the answers giving answers Todd sucks this team is bad and the defense sucks when it matters don’t let the stats fool you and the offense is worse than that what a waste of the season waited all year for this slop unbelievable and now we get to watch a rebuild fantastic it’s about f’in time.

  78. Cmallie Says:

Seriously, we’re just now conceding the ovvious Joe? Fans knew this 3 years ago

  79. Hopes on 2027 Says:

David Walker might have double digit sacks already if pigheaded Todd Bowles had played him.

And who really cares if you are one of the best defenses at stopping the run… in a passing league.

The front 7 in a Bowles defense all have to be interchangeable and great at not just pass rush, not just run stopping, but also pass coverage. Good luck finding players even adequate at all 3. Basing a defense on that extreme requirement is an experiment that has failed,

  80. Saskbucs Says:

Rodmunchisbakersthumb… yeah I don’t get it. I assume Licht could have fired Bowles whenever he wanted. It has flabbergasted me the last 2 years how Licht has tied himself to Todd.

Maybe my next post wasn’t up when you replied. That is Lichts biggest failure the last 4 years, retaining this terrible HC. Don’t get it.

If glazers came out and said we had to fire Licht cause he couldn’t properly evaluate the coaching staff, I would say ok, makes sense.

I don’t trust Glazers to find a better GM. Do we wanna see what this team has on the roster with hopefully much better coaches? I do. Throw 1 dart instead of 2 cause I know we will get better coaches, I do not know if we will get a better GM. And I truly believe this is a good enough roster to win 10 games or more. Should probably be 5-1 right now.

  81. Pelsbuc61 Says:

What an absolute waste of an an entire season, off season, etc.. This franchise from ownership down is an embarrassment of epic proportion. Nothing will change until Tampa gets real owners.

  82. BUCDADDY Says:

Yeah, I think it’s kind of obvious at this point that Baker isn’t the biggest problem anymore. Different QB, same result against a not so good Steelers team. The defense did their job most of the game, but this offense is just not good no matter who is leading it.

A terrible o-line, mixed with terrible play calling, and way too many crucial drops by this mediocre cast of receivers. I mean, we couldn’t even run the ball well today. And just over 100 passing yards will not get it done in today’s NFL.

Sure, you could blame Robinson. But you can’t blame him for overrated Egbuka’s drops, or the o-line getting routinely beat, or Jalon making amateur mistakes at the most crucial time.

Baker should definitely start next week, but I fully expect us to lose, especially with all the problems on this uninspired, no identity having team. Everything is just below average to bad.

But I’m just glad I was right all along. Dallas is terrible, and I knew it. Pittsburgh is just a little better, but still not good. We were up 13, and still couldn’t win after the defense gave Jalon and the offense plenty of opportunities to close this one out. Baker may have won this one, but we’ll never know.

But I know this: Baker wasn’t the only problem, and today proved that.

THE BUCCANEERS JUST SUCK. AS A TEAM, AND AS AN ORGANIZATION. THEY FLAT OUT SUCK.

  83. Lavonte David Enjoyer Says:

Not that Mike Evans needed it, but Bowles and the Bucs have vindicated his decision to go to San Fran entirely. The fans were correct about this team, which is why it’s so frustrating. People are paid millions of dollars to be wiser than a bunch of randos, but exactly what we expected to occur has. The silver lining is that the Bucs should have a great pick next season, we can move on to a new leadership staff, and Mayfield’s final contract year is an option year. So, if we get a shot at a top QB in the draft, we should probably take it. We also need O-line help, and arguably a true WR1, unless Egbuka is being held back a bit by mediocre QB play.

  84. SkunkApe Says:

The Bucs are absolutely bad enough to contend for a top 3 pick. They can do it. In fact, Licht should start unloading players now to guarantee they keep losing, acquire draft picks. At this point the organization should be undermining Bowles ability to win games. We don’t want it. Just lose baby.

  85. Mhystc Says:

Seen someone on Twitter say Josina Anderson is hinting at the Bucs, wanting Mike Tomlin.. that’ll be a big mistake. We need to go with an OFFENSIVE minded head coach. Also when Tomlin was with the Steelers he didn’t do anything in years.

  86. Chickster Says:

There is no accountability on any level from the players so that means there nothing to fear an d it won’t get magically better Todd will have his excuses as usual and it goes on and on the owners probably do not know what to do and that’s the sad part

  87. Jmarkbuc Says:

The fact that Toddy Paycheck can’t or won’t acknowledge the brokenness is the problem.

That and his lack of coaching skills, along with a terrible GM.

  88. Jmarkbuc Says:

If you’ve ever let someone go for performance reasons you know they fall into three buckets:

    1) never saw it coming – indicates they live in a different reality

    2) try to negotiate – indicates they understood the lack of results but believes there’s a scenario where they can blame other circumstances

    3) gets it

Despite the public responses, Todd is in bucket #3. There’s no reason for him to broadcast his own failures. He’d be an idiot to do otherwise

Uh, Bowles gets what? Anybody who is involved with football and thinks sacks are an empty stat doesn’t get ANYTHING.

This coach is one of the best in the business. His performance speaks for itself. He needs an extension, nothing else.

Of course they are broken. He never has a real answer for any problem on this team. Remember last years “We’ve done all we can do as coaches.” The guy is completely out of his league as a Head Coach.

    @adam,

We don’t really need positives as we are most assuredly only playing for draft position now. And to get young guys some good experience. To me, losing the next 11 games would be a positive.

Actual positives: Walker with 2 sacks, Bain with 1. Maybe the next coach will find a way to maximize their talents.

Why would Wifrs be in the “except” category? Dude gave up two sacks to a dude who hadn’t previously gotten off the snide. The second was a drawn out, held the ball too long, run down from behind play. The first was a straight up got outbent by pass rusher and gave up an easy sack.

I love what that guy once was, and what he may have been, but what he is now, is a middling LT.
