Baker Mayfield, Bucs Agree To A Contract Extension Through 2029 Season
September 8th, 2026
Three-year deal.
Joe thought the deadline was July 29?
Over a month after Baker Mayfield’s rock-solid deadline to re-up his contract with the Bucs has come and gone, the two parties came to an agreement, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Mayfield has signed a three-year contract extension. Mayfield will be a Bucs quarterback through the 2029 season. Per BSPNFL, Mayfield’s deal is three years for $165 million.
So much for deadlines.
Throughout the offseason, everyone Joe spoke with at One Buc Palace, both on and off the record, gave zero indication they wanted anyone other than Mayfield to quarterback the Bucs.
That’s why Joe wrote countless times throughout the offseason that Joe believed Mayfield would be a Bucs starting quarterback in 2027. Now, it appears he will be behind center for the Bucs for even more seasons.

September 8th, 2026 at 5:30 pm
So….they’re bumping his pay for this year whilst adding 2 more?
September 8th, 2026 at 5:30 pm
Always said Baker and Vea would be signed and my initial guess was the week before teh season. I was wrong on Vea. He got the contract much earlier.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:31 pm
Congrats, but you better ball out, Baker Mayfield!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:31 pm
They just ‘signed’ up for fast-tracking, and guaranteeing ANOTHER “Lost Decade.” THAT is the ONLY THING they just did. I will absolutely NOT support it.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:32 pm
Season is over now forsure. All the pundits must be changing their picks. How can Baker possibly perform without the massive chip on his shoulder!?
September 8th, 2026 at 5:32 pm
Yes!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:33 pm
Great. LFFFFGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
GO BUCS!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:33 pm
Let’s Go final business is done. Now lets CRUSH the Bengals!!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:34 pm
Contract Terms: 3 yr(s) / $165,000,000
Average Salary: $55,000,000
September 8th, 2026 at 5:34 pm
Shane is OUT AGAIN. And, that was the main reason WHY the had to get that Skubal trade DONE. And, I’ll NEVER get over Wander. But, THANK GOD we have the RAYS, and that they got their new stadium. THANK. GOD.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:35 pm
Finally! Let the Season Begin!! LFG!!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:36 pm
As Sgt Schultz previously said “He’z go-ink NOvere!!”
September 8th, 2026 at 5:37 pm
It’s clear the front office don’t want to win another Super Bowl for three years. 12 years in and licht still can’t find or draft a franchise qb smh. It’s sad honestly
September 8th, 2026 at 5:39 pm
bucs did the right thing.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:39 pm
Oooooh the Trask was available crowd gonna be pissed!!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:40 pm
stupid is as stupid does…… not worth it at all were f**ked
September 8th, 2026 at 5:40 pm
This was the exact deal I said to sign him for outstanding! See ya in Section 305 this year!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:41 pm
So Mayfield finishes up his current contract this year and extends a new contract after this year, for 3 more years at 55M per year. Basically, it locks up Mayfield for 4 years.
Curious, if his 3rd year is a guaranteed year or jus the first two years.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:43 pm
Depends on the terms, but if 90% of this contract is guaranteed we now have the most inept GM in the history of the NFL.
Free agents? Goodbye!
When an average QB, or any QB for that matter, eats up 20% of the cap you can kiss the Super Bowl goodbye too.
Again, gotta see the terms. If the Bucs have an out I’ll retract, but is doesn’t look good.
And there goes the Bowles replacement with someone who might want their own guy.
Should’ve let him play out the season.
Any of us could’ve gone 1-9 in prime time by handing off 100% of the time!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:43 pm
YEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!
LFG Bucs!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:44 pm
I’m reading that Mayfield’s 3rd year is a non-guaranteed year.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:44 pm
Lmao at stats guy. Thanks for the valuable insight. Even though we are not all stats guys, I am pretty sure we are capable of figuring out what 165 divided by 3 equals. SMDH.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:44 pm
It said the contract goes thru ’28. It’s a given he’s still here in ’27 anyway
September 8th, 2026 at 5:45 pm
impressed by the glazers for shelling it out didn’t think they would
September 8th, 2026 at 5:46 pm
I feel like it will be more on the 2 yr contract, the 3rd year he would want an extension. If Jalon Daniel develops into something they could move from Baker in that year as core guys like Godwin and Vea will be gone. It seems like a nice deal because they would have tagged him.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:47 pm
I guess his back is feeling better now as well.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:48 pm
I would’ve let the season play out, but I support Baker and JL.
On to Cincy.
Baker and Bowles have no excuses this year
September 8th, 2026 at 5:49 pm
What I read it’s an extension this year is for his same pay. He is signed through 2029 hence it being called a 3 year extension. So the extension goes into effect next season. So he is signed for 4 years
September 8th, 2026 at 5:49 pm
They still have Bowles as H/C
September 8th, 2026 at 5:50 pm
looks like someone got a nice little raise…!
🙂
September 8th, 2026 at 5:51 pm
“Technically, I said MY deadline was July 29th, not my Agent’s deadline” – Technical Bake probably
Deadlines. Smeadlines. As they say, haha
“On to Cincinnati” by JL was some line too
Gruden was right as well. It’d be interesting if JL wanted this timing of the contract to happen all along for a freshh little Wk 1 boost to morale and vibe as we head “on to Cincinnati” to get the season started!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:51 pm
Everything about the college game is SO MUCH better anyway! The only thing I cared about with the BUCS this season was the TRADE-DEADLINE, and whether or not they approached it properly and CORRECTLY. But, NOW it’s irrelevant. Nothing else matters now WTF THEY DO. This is a DEAD Franchise that is STUCK. And, now they are SCREWED. It’s just PURE IGNORANCE. And, they did it to THEMSELVES. It’s OVER. Just WAIT when they’re 1-4 at the mini bye-week, with Pittsburgh coming to town. Just Wait. Cause, REALITY is coming. And, it’s going to HIT REALLLLL HARDDDDD. I’ll be right here, LMAOOOO. Hahahahahahhhh. They DESERVE-IT. Everything they’re GONNA GET.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:52 pm
Congrats to Baker and the Bucs. We are loaded on paper now, time to ball out !
Our opponents will be walking the plank with a rebuilt front 7, plays will not have the extra seconds to let the plays develop, as qbs will be flattened from outside as well as inside. I just love physical play
September 8th, 2026 at 5:52 pm
Nice surprise
September 8th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
It’s 3 additional years. He is signed to be our qb the next 4 seasons including this year. 2029 is his last contractual year on new deal.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
Hey everyone, MelvinJunior won’t support it. We’re going to miss you around here, buddy ol pal.
Just kidding. Go be a Saints fan
September 8th, 2026 at 5:55 pm
Not my money, but I would’ve let Baker play out the season.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:55 pm
@ Saskbucs Says: “Season is over now forsure. All the pundits must be changing their picks. How can Baker possibly perform without the massive chip on his shoulder!?”
They’ll be paying for it for the NEXT 6-7 YEARS, at LEAST. They won’t be able to move him, so they’ll be STUCK. And, it’ll DESTROY their cap. They’ll be eating Baker’s “Dead Cap” for YEARS on end.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:56 pm
Per JOE:
“Mayfield has signed a three-year contract extension. Mayfield will be a Bucs quarterback through the 2028 season. Per BSPNFL, Mayfield’s deal is three years for $165 million.”
September 8th, 2026 at 5:56 pm
TBBF is confused (again)……if it’s a 3 year extension, then he should be signed through 2029…
2026 plus the 3 years….
If that isn’t the case, then it is a 3 year restructured contract.
September 8th, 2026 at 5:57 pm
So not betting on himself. It’s the right move for both sides over the next 2-3 years. JL better get his but in gear and find the next one !
September 8th, 2026 at 5:57 pm
I’m a big Ohio State fan and remember Baker planting the Oklahoma flag at mid field after they beat us. It really pissed me off. I was also a hopeless Browns fan and watched them be resurrected by Baker, only to watch his play and injuries be mismanaged. This man has what it takes to win. Tampa Bucs have been my home team the last several years because of Baker, and I’m retired in NC! Go Bucs!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:58 pm
OK.
Per (another local site)
“With less than a week until the first game of the Bucs’ season, quarterback Baker Mayfield and the team have found common ground. The two sides have agreed to a three-year, $165 million contract extension. The deal tacks on to 2026, the final year of Mayfield’s current contract and it will keep the charismatic signal-caller in Tampa Bay through 2029.”
September 8th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
Through the 2029 season!
September 8th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
Does this mean Baker won’t be motivated to prove all the doubters wrong now???
All I heard was how he’s going to have a huge chip on his shoulder due to no contact extension.
Will he just take the easy path like Todd does???
Congrats to the Pom Pom squad. You got your Mr Mid QB for multiple years to come.
No SB, no problem. We have the culture!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡
September 8th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
Bye Melvin! Don’t let the door hit you in the A$$ in the way out. I’ve been a fan through Ray Perkins, Richard Williamson, Dilfer, Freeman, Winston, Fitzgerald, Vinny T etc. Never have I not supported this team. I highly doubt Mayfield or anyone else cares!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:00 pm
Mel, bye now. Maybe you can infest the Rays blogs with your crazy all cap nonsense. Now. We’re holding you to it. You said you’re a jaguars fan now and goodbye to the Bucs. Please be a man of your word.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:01 pm
Can’t wait to start guessing who the name changers are!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:01 pm
JA said – “When an average QB, or any QB for that matter, eats up 20% of the cap you can kiss the Super Bowl goodbye”
Clearly, JA was not a math major.
The 2027 projected salary cap is approximately $325 million and you can add an other 10% each year to that (~$357 million in 2028 and $393 million in 2029).
So, that means Baker’s $55 million will be about 17% of the cap in 2027, 15% in 2028 and 14% in 2029.
Love these people who think you can’t win a Superbowl with a high paid QB. The trick to doing it, though, is to have multiple dead years to spread it over the same way the Bucs did with Tom Brady and how the Chiefs have done it for years with Mahomes. I guess they think you need to find a miracle rookie and win it all within 5 years. Dump him and start all over again. Real dynasty builders, these people.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:02 pm
I love that Baker’s negotiating strategy was basically: “Pay me or I’ll continue being your quarterback extremely aggressively.”
September 8th, 2026 at 6:04 pm
This is a WEAK. DUMB Franchise. With THESE next TWO Drafts coming up. They could’ve gotten REAL GOOD in a HURRY, and been able to have signed the RIGHT HC (and GM). It’s WEAK. And, PATHETIC. What is soooo HILARIOUS too, is they ‘think’ they’re playing it SAFE (like the Steelers). When, in REALITY… They WILL see an EMPTY Ray-Jay SOON. And, moving forward from there, for an awfully looooong time. Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock. It’s COMING REAL SOON.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
Quick everyone, let’s run to the Browns chat rooms. LOL
September 8th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
Now we know why the backup QB is an UDFA, so they are glad Jaylon Daniels showed up enough to not have to pay a vet. Not saying he didn’t earn it, but it makes sense for the future.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
Sounds like what most people on here were guessing to begin with. $165 Million added to the $30 Million this year is about $50 Million a year for the next 4 years.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:06 pm
Worst day in Buccaneers History!!!!!

September 8th, 2026 at 6:07 pm
Now that Mayfield has his contract issue settled, he can really focus on endorsements and celebrity appearances!
Good Grief
September 8th, 2026 at 6:08 pm
At $55 mil per year, Baker is now paid the same as the Bengals’ Joe Burrow, the Bills’ Josh Allen, the Packers’ Jordan Love, the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence and the Rams Matthew Stafford.
Congrats on the raise Baker. Now show us all that you deserve to be in that top tier.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:08 pm
@ Kidfloflo – NO ONE here GAF about TRASK. There were like 4 of them. Only further proving the Bros insecurities with it even more. The ONLY reason that 90% of the ENTIRE FANBASE wanted to SEE what the hell Trask could do at one time, was due to BAKER’S PLAY. Other than that, NO ONE was ever ‘attached’ to, or EVER gave a DAMN about Kyle Fricken TRASK. Get over it.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:09 pm
3-14…..if that! What a Joke of a Franchise!!!!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:10 pm
I gave JL credit as being an above average GM and have never called for his head.
If Baker doesn’t ball out I hope this costs him his job.
This makes zero sense, could have just tagged him, and even tagged him again.
Get a spine and stand up to the players, they walk all over him.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:11 pm
@ AlabamaBucsFan Says: “I’m reading that Mayfield’s 3rd year is a non-guaranteed year.”
Irrelevant. To any of us. That only means, that the GLAZERS won’t have to PAY HIM. It STILLLLL affects our DEAD CAP. We’ll still be PAYING FOR IT through 2032 and BEYOND. Watch.

There are 12 other QBs that make similar money. Only 2 of them have won a SB.
Time to go show you’re worth it, Baker.

September 8th, 2026 at 6:16 pm
Scott—
The cap this year is 301 million. Does this contract include a raise this year? Do your history, math major, and you’ll discover that other than Patrick Mahomes for one year, before he lost all his players and his team began losing due to unaffordability, the biggest cap hit ever to win a Super Bowl was 14% by Steve Young. All the high-priced quarterbacks, and some far better than Baker, have one thing in common, they’ve never won a Super Bowl. And the 27’ cap is 311, not your fictional creation. Compute that!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:17 pm
Congrats to Baker and the Bucs. The Bucs didn’t want this contract thing hanging over their heads the entire season. Great job by Jason Licht and the front office. LFG!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:17 pm
So two older players, one past his prime for sure, talk and holdout and get rewarded. Not a good precedent. So what if another player does something similar?
I really wanted to see Bake play out this contract.
I like Bake but not at this price. Hrs good, but not great. Hasn’t won much and physically and athleticly limited.
We are paying him like a franchise QB. He has never shown that ability. Look at his W and L.
He fell apart the second half of the season. Not good in our playoff game two years ago.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:20 pm
I’m happy. Let’s play!!

Defense Rules said – “At $55 mil per year, Baker is now paid the same as the Bengals’ Joe Burrow, the Bills’ Josh Allen, the Packers’ Jordan Love, the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence and the Rams Matthew Stafford.”
That’s what their average salary works out to be, but dead years tacked on allow a team to take a much smaller cap hit.
Matthew Stafford has the highest cap hit of any QB in the league this season and it is $48,266,668.
Josh Allen’s cap hit this season is $44,228,000.
Joe Burrow’s is $37,599,784.
Jordan Love – $36,125,000
Trevor Lawrence – $24,000,000
And, of course, the highest paid QB of them all – Patrick Mahomes – whose average per year is $64 million is only on the books for a cap hit of $34,653,888 this season.
As you can see, nobody is even close to counting $55 million toward the cap this season.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:22 pm
Whats up with this teams fan base? This extension triggered a lot of you Baker Haters.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:23 pm
Does this Melvin will just go away and stop ruing the comments section for the rest of us fans??
September 8th, 2026 at 6:25 pm
@ Drunk Bucs Fan – Oh, noooo… I’ll be supporting a REAL FRANCHISE, who is in the current new-age modern day NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars. They’ve always been MY 4th ‘favorite’ team anyway, behind only the Bucs, Bengals, and Chargers.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:25 pm
Can’t believe i’m about to say it, but I do give the Glazers credit for signing vita and baker.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:26 pm
This is awesome for Tampa Bay. We have a franchise QB till 2030, one that wont have to deal with a giselle this year
September 8th, 2026 at 6:29 pm
JA – “the biggest cap hit ever to win a Super Bowl was 14% by Steve Young”
So, I guess you are saying that the Rams don’t stand a chance of winning the Superbowl this year. Stafford’s average pay is $55 million now (18.3% of this year’s cap), although his cap hit this season is only $48,266,668 (16% of this year’s cap).
And no, Baker’s contract has nothing to do with this season. It is an extension, paying him $55 million per year the next three years (and maybe not even that, since we don’t know how much of the contract is actually guaranteed).
September 8th, 2026 at 6:32 pm
Love it!!!!

I did too, back then… When, I was a little KID and didn’t know what I KNOW NOW. And, when I just liked the team period, and it didn’t really matter to me if they won or not… I always had HOPE. Now, is completely DIFFERENT. Because, there is NO EXCUSE for SUCH IGNORANCE in this modern day. And, there is NO HOPE

Really? You are stating as an absolute fact the exact salary cap for next season? At least I used the word approximately and have sources like Spotrac to fall back on.
Mark this down. We’ll see who is closer to being correct next year!
September 8th, 2026 at 6:37 pm
I am a Baker fan. I do not claim he is a top 3 NFL quarter. The Bucs won Superbowls with two different quarterbacks. One was average the other was the GOAT. Anything can happen with the right team. A lot of “pieces” have to come together.
Go Bucs!!

Todd,
“Pay me….or I’m gonna continue being your QB extremely aggressively” 😂
That’s hilarious when you think about it like that. Your synopsis made me laugh!

I think they over paid about 5 million a year. Wonder if Mike Tomlin approves since he will be the coach next year after Bowles craps the bed again.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:41 pm
So according to the haters in here. Chiefs, bengals, bills, ravens ,Chargers, jaguars, in AFC and the rams,49rs, eagles, packers, cowboys, lions have no chance of winning the Super Bowl this year. That’s pretty much all the favored teams to win it this year.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:41 pm
This is the exact contract l said he would sign back in April
I don’t really understand why it took so long

September 8th, 2026 at 6:47 pm
Dan Grazino (spelling??) says ‘27 and ‘28 are guaranteed and it is $110m in new money. Who knows if he’s correct?
The cap obligation would mean you are probably only dropping him if it really goes south or you have a good option on a rookie deal, for ‘29.
If this is correct it’s a good deal for both parties. He gets more cash and the team is protected and has some stability for ‘27 and ‘28. Additionally a solid to good vet qb under contract is attractive to a new HC if/when that happens.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:49 pm

Absolutely. 💯. It’s all that needs to be said. All these WEAK Pom-Pom wavers, can HAVE IT. They love the misery. The same old current status quo is THEIR COMFORT.

@Bucnjim says: “Heavy & Melvin wanted Winston back. Sorry Boys.”
You’re a CLOWN Dude, and a LIAR. Everyone on here KNOWS WTF “I” WANTED. And, that was what was BEST for this franchise, and what would’ve gotten BACK on track AGAIN, for longterm sustained SUCCESS moving FORWARD.… A FRESH START. Just WAIT when they are 1-4 and then 3-6 at the Trade-Deadline. I’ve already stated MY-Plan, numerous times. And, that was for this franchise to get into the current new-age, MODERN DAY NFL.
September 8th, 2026 at 6:58 pm
Ladies… please stop clutching your pearls and think about this in terms of supply and demand. In 2027, there will be no FA QB available even CLOSE to the productivity you get from Mayfield. That leaves you with the draft. The experts say there are 5 or 6 top QB’s. If history holds true, one of the 6 will be very good….2 or 3 will be serviceable, and 2 or 3 will be horrible.
You either have a QB or you don’t. And you all REALLY want to let him walk and bank on Jalon Daniels and the draft? Really? You all can’t be serious. If they were to release Mayfield at the end of this year, he could start for one of 20 teams in 2027. He’s a proven veteran who, IMO is at the top of group not named Mahomes, Jackson or Allen.
Also…QB pay goes up significantly every year (as does the cap). This is a good deal for both sides. Please use your heads and keep emotion out of this. Do you really want another Doug Williams move by the franchise?
September 8th, 2026 at 6:59 pm
Now, it’s guaranteed he goes out Sunday and lays an egg. 😅

This whole QB salary cap thing got me thinking, so I ran some quick analyses through Google Gemini.
In the modern salary cap period, since 1996, teams with QB salaries > 13% only had a 1.4% chance of winning the Superbowl. Teams with QB salaries <= 13% had a 3.4% chance. So that definitely supports the argument people are making.
HOWEVER, in the same period, high$-QB teams had about a 60% chance of making the playoffs, while low$-QB teams had only about a 40% chance.
Since winning the SB is such a low-likelihood event, in either case, I think it makes more sense to maximize one's odds of making the playoffs. That's only a personal preference, though, and folks could obviously disagree.

It was nothing but a DESPERATE attempt by LICKT to try to save HIS & Bowles’ JOBS. He’s thinking it’s going to buy them at least 2-MORE YEARS, together. 💯 He doesn’t GAF about THIS Franchise. He’s looking out for HIMSELF FIRST. He knows HIS OWN limitations. He hasn’t even the FIRST CLUE, as to where else TO START. This Franchise is STUCK in the Stone Age.

Big Z says: “So two older players, one past his prime for sure, talk and holdout and get rewarded.
Not good in our playoff game two years ago.”
It’s ABSURDITY. 💯
September 8th, 2026 at 7:07 pm
but i thought that the glazers and JL hate baker and refused to negotiate bc they didnt want him after this season?? i could have sworn that’s what buttmunch and melvin said..
September 8th, 2026 at 7:08 pm
Glazers got off the fence. No more CYA playing games with Baker’s head. Now at least at the worst, they have a chance to trade him. There was none with the FT. Good job Glazers. I really didn’t think it was going to happen. That low ball offer was a red herring. Waiting and using the tag was never going to happen so I thought he was gone. Now if they can give Baker an OC worth a damn, we might just shock some people. Go Bucs!!!!
September 8th, 2026 at 7:09 pm
“As you can see, nobody is even close to counting $55 million toward the cap this season.”
And, that’s why they’ll be PAYING FOR IT for a loooong time, AFTER he’s already LONG GONE. Just totally, SCREWED THEMSELVES (intentionally). And, that’s why it’s time to jump OFF. You just CANNOT support this. No way. No how. Cause, that is THE literal definition of “INSANITY.” And, having Stockholm Syndrome. Well, NOT this boy here.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:09 pm
That’s fantastic! I really didn’t think he would be back, but they really opened up the Coin Purse!
So Glad Mayfield will be our QB for the next 3 years! He got the money he deserved!.
Now- we just gotta build better O line depth for him!
September 8th, 2026 at 7:15 pm
Bee isn’t here yet? Oneil? Baker’s last year and he wouldn’t get a new contract, Lynch Mob must really be slamming his head against a brick wall.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:17 pm
Nowadays that’s the going rate for a franchise Qb in his prime. I love our bucs and I think I love when they spend team glaciers money even more. He is OUR QB and that’s all that is to it , so all the haters out there put that in your pipe and smoke it lol. Glorious news to come home to this evening.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:19 pm
@ Oscar – That’s fine. Then, YOU can just go right along, and continue being happy and content cheering for a LOSER. It’s a free country. It’s YOUR CHOICE.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:20 pm
OUTSTANDING!!!!
Don’t know what the guarantee is and don’t care. This was about offering him a longer deal because he deserves it. People commenting here like JA are absolute clueless.
Buccaneer fans should be rejoicing!!!!
What I don’t understand is why Joe acts surprised the deal got done when there was a “deadline.”
Those deadlines mean nothing. They always have and always will.
They’re part of negotiating, nothing more. I have been saying all along they would get a deal done before the season, they just had to offer him more years. I assumed four.
Is this three-year extension or three years including renegotiating this year?
Grateful they did
September 8th, 2026 at 7:26 pm
@ Sunny – I never ONCE, said such. You’ve allowed YOU ‘emotions’ to affect your mind once again, and have just made stuff up. You’ve people don’t have even the FIRST CLUE, and are soooo farrrr outside of REALITY, that it’s ridiculous. It’s just simpletons with simple minds. The status quo being their COMFORT level.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
David says “HE’S DESERVED IT.” Lmaooooo. He’s done NOTHING. Nothing. Absolutely, NOTHING. I mean, the ABSURDITY of these people. It’s PATHETIC.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:33 pm
Daniels will be starting more than one game this year fo sho…. Mark it
September 8th, 2026 at 7:44 pm
MalvinJunior, for the umpteenth time, wins and losses are NOT a QB stat. They are a team stat. If you don’t believe me, ask Matthew Stafford who finally got to a winning record last year, during his 17th season.
September 8th, 2026 at 7:48 pm
Pretty sure that the only deadline that Baker imposed was him not discussing a new contract with the media etc..
September 8th, 2026 at 7:55 pm
We will have to see how they manage his new contract. Since 2000, the average cap hit for the Super Bowl winner is 8.1%. Only twice has the QB cap hit been over 13% and those were the Chiefs I’m back to back years. The team with the next highest QB cap hit was us with Brady at 12.6%. There have been multiple teams who have won with a QB cap hit over 10% though.
September 8th, 2026 at 8:04 pm
MelvinJunior Says:
“I will absolutely NOT support it.”
So…when have you supported anything with the team?
September 8th, 2026 at 8:07 pm
Brady won by taking cheaper deals and building a team around him.
Baker is no Brady, demanded to be the 3rd highest player in the NFL, and for whatever reason, the Bucs gave in.
Still have to see the structure, we know it’s $110m guaranteed, but how much is signing bonuses, how much is year guarantees down the road?
Not that it matters, but the one way I’d be OK with this deal is if it’s all yearly money – meaning if Baker goes out this year and plays like he did last year, the team could still offload him to another team without destroying the cap for years. Not saying the Bucs intend to do that – but you’d think they’d want it as an option considering how bad Baker was last year. Even if Baker had another bad year, you’d still have teams like Cleveland that would still probably send you a top pick and take on the salary to get him back. To be clear, I don’t think the deal will be done that way since they need to create money next season, and they’ll likely do that using all sorts of trickery and void years and signing and workout bonuses, etc – but just holding out hope that they still have an exit plan if needed.
But it’s all over, so hope for the best now.
September 8th, 2026 at 8:11 pm
The only thing pathetic around here is melvin crying about how they are stuck in the Stone Age, then go root for the jags… you are the biggest whiner I’ve seen on here” waaaa, they didn’t do what I wanted so I’m going to bash everyone for being fans of the Bucs
September 8th, 2026 at 8:22 pm
Baker is now the top 3 paid QB in the league. Everyone having a fit need to realize by next year his contract will be middle of the pack. I will be back here 1 year from today and see where we stand. Anyone wanna put a little wager that his contract won’t be in the top 10 one year from now?
September 8th, 2026 at 8:28 pm
Someone needs to do a wellness check on Bee. He guaranteed this was Baker’s final year as the Bucs QB.
September 8th, 2026 at 8:31 pm
Hey, you gotta give Melvin respect for his passion. Whatever else you can say about him, he ++CARES++ about this stuff. I mean, I like Mayfield, and I’m glad he got an extension, but I’m not going to sacrifice ten white bulls to the football gods. lol
September 8th, 2026 at 8:41 pm
Predictions:
• All of these complainers will do their best to cast doubt on the team.
• Even if the Bucs were to win 6 of the first 8 games, all they would say is, “The slump is coming!”
• Then even if no slump comes, they will say, “It’s a weak division! They wouldn’t win in any other division!”
• Then when the Bucs make the playoffs, they’ll say, “Baker will blow the game in the 4th quarter!”
• And if the Buc win the first playoff game, they’ll say the same in the following game.
• Then if the team makes the NFC Championship game, they’ll tell everyone they are dreaming because the team can’t win a Superbowl.
• If the Bucs win it…well…by then most of them would have changed their names…again.

This has set the dummies like Melvin Jr, the KY ball boy, CosmoKramer and Muncher grasping at their pearls and talking to themselves. (look how many post Melvin made talking to himself) They all knew it was Baker and Bowles last season and the new coach would want to pick his own QB…. In the future just SHUT UP, quit proving to everyone that you are truly fools and don’t know Jack Squat.

And if Baker goes out and throws an INT on his opening drive of the season, every Baker Boi will blame Bowles, and claim Baker isn’t healthy.
And if Baker goes out and loses the opening game and doesn’t pay well, every Baker Boi will blame Bowles, and claim Baker isn’t healthy.
And if the Bucs get off to a hot start, then go into their typical midseason funk, every Baker Boi will blame Bowles, and claim Baker isn’t healthy.
And if the Bucs again miss the playoffs and Baker is throwing for 122 yards and 145 yards in loses, every Baker Boi will blame Bowles, and claim Baker isn’t healthy.
When Baker gets healthy… you’ll see – he’s the real MVP (not just the week 6 MVP but the REAL MVP!).
Anywho, I’m honestly hoping Baker is finally “healthy” for a full season and the Bucs are winning.
September 8th, 2026 at 9:28 pm
@Rod
If the Bucs miss the playoffs, fans will most definitely blame Bowles then demand he be fired AND if Baker is “unhealthy,” Baker will still be paid next year. Frustrating if he craps the bed and is a reason why we don’t have a playoff run.
Also agree with you that Baker needs a supporting cast of defense and offense to win a Super Bowl and his deal may reduce Bucs ability to surround him with the right players.
I still think Bowles isn’t the coach to get us to a SB but as a fan I’ll still hope there win.
September 8th, 2026 at 9:28 pm
Sounds like Baker got exactly what he originally really wanted. $55M APY, 2 years guaranteed (2027 and 2028) and 3rd extension year allows team to say they did not do a Tua contract in case it goes south. Baker plays 2026 and it’s crap. Baker plays 2027 and it’s crap. They cut him post-June and split $55M dead cap between 2028 and 2029. Everyone gets what they want.
What I really want to see is whether he has a no-trade no-franchise tag. I am thinking Baker gave that up as he is fine doing this all over again at the end of 2028. By then it will be $65M APY and he gets to renegotiate after 3 good seasons. This is how the NFL functions properly.
For some perspective. Tua was signed for 4 year at $212M ($53M APY in 2024 money) and $167M practically guaranteed. Baker’s deal is still very team friendly.
September 8th, 2026 at 9:32 pm
As Bakers number one Pom Pom fan, this is the best day ever! Congratulations bake!!
🔥 LFG!
September 8th, 2026 at 9:32 pm
Muncher… if, if, if, Wow, do you live in the world of If’s. Crazy how all your talk in the past now comes down to a bunch of ifs.
September 8th, 2026 at 9:39 pm
Ah yes…..waking up to great news
LETS BAKE!!!
September 8th, 2026 at 9:42 pm
HEY MELVIN, GO F YOURSELF!!!!!HAHAHAHA!!! YOU TOO ROD, ONEIL, MARI_E AND ANYONE ELSE I MISSED!!!!!
September 8th, 2026 at 10:22 pm
Melvin sorry the Glazers did not check with you before giving Baker a new deal. Oh yea it’s not your money.
September 8th, 2026 at 10:35 pm
Great news all around. Even the right people are vexed. What’s nice is that for three years or so, we won’t have to worry about evaluating college and free agent QBs or having divisive “competitions” for the position. We can focus on other positions to build a stronger all-around team. When you’re QB shopping, everything else takes a back seat.
September 8th, 2026 at 10:50 pm
Good thing I’m cheering for ME and the nines now. Bucs just overpaid by 33%.
September 8th, 2026 at 10:58 pm
Baker is a top 10 QB when he is healthy and plays recklessly.
Unfortunately, the chances are slim that he remains healthy while playing recklessly.
Meaning at some point, he’ll be playing hurt and be a bottom of the barrel QB.
Should have paid him as a game manager QB, top 10 to 20, at about 40 mil.
September 8th, 2026 at 11:00 pm
BradyGronkFan (a.k.a. never an actual Bucs fan) said – “Good thing I’m cheering for ME and the nines now. Bucs just overpaid by 33%.”
I’ll be laughing my ass off when the 49ers don’t make the playoffs and the Bucs do. I’ll be laughing even harder when the 49ers cut Evans after his one and only season with guaranteed money.
September 8th, 2026 at 11:04 pm
More from the non-Bucs fan – “Should have paid him as a game manager QB, top 10 to 20, at about 40 mil.”
In other words, they should have let him walk after this season. Baker would likely get even more than the Bucs offered him from several QB needy teams next season and what would the Bucs have? A roll of the dice on a very late round college QB or their opportunity to get in a bidding war for Cousins, Kyler Murray or Tua.
September 8th, 2026 at 11:14 pm
Scott, the niners have alot of older stars. It’s simple, they stay healthy, they win SB or go deep in playoffs. The Bucs had that too and it was good enough for 1 SB and a couple more very good teams.
Mayfield is good but he isn’t that good unless he’s out there trying to be Mahomes, which leads to injuries to him. If the coaches were smart, they’d reign him back. But they’re not. Bowles should not have been promoted to head coach after that playoff loss to the Lions. Then should have been fired last year at the latest.
but Baker just got paid like superstar, so he’ll be out there th8nking he’s Mahomes, or Burrow, or Allen.
September 8th, 2026 at 11:19 pm
Shake N Bake BETTER BALL OUT!!!!!!
September 8th, 2026 at 11:25 pm
A good boost for the team. Mayfield is a recognized leader. The deal was reasonable.
Now it’s time for Baker to scorch the Bengals. What say, can he do it?
September 8th, 2026 at 11:28 pm
Told yall he’d get that extension.
No surprise here.

@ Steven007 Says: “Mel, bye now. Maybe you can infest the Rays blogs with your crazy all cap nonsense. Now. We’re holding you to it. You said you’re a jaguars fan now and goodbye to the Bucs. Please be a man of your word.”
Already, been there – done that… On the Rays Subreddit page. There are actually, some VERY smart modern-day age, grrreat “Baseball Minds” on there. But, like here, there is just a ridiculous number of EMPTY Homers, who are SO ‘thin’ they never go over an INCH deep on any freaking thing. Just like the 50%+ or so on HERE, who have ‘confidence’ in TODD BOWLES, and TRUST IN LICKT, etc. and all of that BS. I obviously, completely STOPPED ‘commenting’ at ALL on there, prob 2-YEARS AGO, due to the previous OWNER, and that whole entire stadium disaster. DONE. I just haven’t wanted to get trapped back inside of that whole “Reddit World” again.
I am BANNED from the Orlando Magic’s Subreddit. LoL. You talkin’ about THE WORST. Those people are soooo insufferable. I have never seen such PATHETIC Homerism before. 💯 of it. It’s ALL it is there (guess that’s why I was banned – they don’t allow any different views, other than the status quo). Seriously. They all just completely fall ‘in-line’ with literally, EVERY. FREAKING. THING. That Management Says. AND, DOES. And, it is THE WORST FO/GM combinations… One of THE VERY WORST in all of ‘professional’ SPORTS. I am NOT falling back into THAT ‘rabbit hole’ again, BUT trying to WIN’ with only a MONTH left in that season of the fricken “WEMBY Sweepstakes!?” PATHETIC. Just PURE IGNORANCE. They ALLOWED the Spurs to end up getting him, AND allowed Portland to even pass them for the 3RD-PICK… Annnd, THEY TOOK friggin’ Juwan Howard’s SON with the 11th-pick… 11TH-PICK. While, passing on Derek Lively!!!!!!!!!! When Howard wasn’t EVEN A 1ST-ROUND TALENT. Just HORRIBLE. Just think Paolo and Franz with Friggin WEMBY. The entire FRANCHISE would immediately be worth an EXTRA $1-BIL.
They have entirely, WASTED having both Franz and Paolo on THEIR ‘ROOKIE-level’ DEALS. Completely, WASTED. Now, Paolo is VERY shaky about wanting OUT and I don’t blame him. It’s PATHETIC. And, these people just continued slurping every LAST DROP of that Magic Kool-Aid, all the way throughout, until the very end. It’s a JOKE. If I heard right on WDAE today, then I guess old T-Krass will be ‘calling’ their games on tv next season!? So, that’s cool, if true… Will definitely be interesting, that’s for sure.
The only thing I was waiting for with THIS Bucs Team, was the freaking ‘TRADE-DEADLINE’ anyway, so it ain’t nothing TO ME. Everything about College Football, is farrrrr superior, and it’s MY #1. But, THEY have just screwed ALL of that, NOW. Since, it’s all now, IRRELEVANT. Doesn’t freakin matter. It’s a DEAD Franchise with NO SHOT. And, they’ve just screwed us ALL, for YEARS. Screwed Us. These new Rays Owners are going to FANTASTIC. Top TOP-NOTCH. Now, if Cash can FINALLY start playing Mesa Junior EVERYDAY, in place of Chucky. Just think HOW LOADED that lineup would’ve been with Wander. PATHETIC.

Hahahah. Yah, we’ll see about that… In the FUTURE. Cause, I’ll be right HERE. Right here, for when the sheet hits the fan. Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock. Until, a half EMPTY Ray-Jay… And, then when it gets SO BAD that literally everyone, is just losing their damn MINDS. When, the realization of “They Really Should Have Listened To MELVIN JUNIOR,” hits y’all square in your blockheads. When, the REALITY of another “Lost Decade” is beginning to set in. When, the REALITY of STILLLLLL, having to PAY FOR Baker Mayfield well past 2031 season starts becoming ‘a thing’ – after seeing/hearing that “BAKER MAYFIELD” (looong after HE’s already been long gone), is accounting for X-amount of $$$$$’s towards the Bucs ‘official’ 2032 Salary Cap… LoL in DEAD CAP SPACE. Hahahah, yep… I’ll still be RIGHT HERE. It’s the ‘REALITY’ that YOU (losers) friggin’ BEGGED FOR. Y’all must REALLY LOVE the ABUSE. No Stockholm Syndrome for ME.
