So Far, The Old Chris Godwin Is Back
September 5th, 2026
Ready to rock.
If you are a regular consumer of JoeBucsFan.com media, you likely read the following in Joe’s training camp practice notes, or heard it on the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” or heard Joe on WDAE radio discuss it:
Chris Godwin looks sssooo smooth out there.
And he does. He’s in “mint condition,” as one Joe likes to say.
It seems Godwin is finally healthy, maybe for the first time since early in the the 2024 season, when he was dominant with a whopping 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns in the first seven games. And with Bucs receivers now nicked up, it is going to be important for Godwin to avoid the injury bug.
Joe has a hunch Godwin will have a strong season if he stays healthy. And boy, KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles thinks the same way. This week, Bowles raved about how it appears the old Chris Godwin has reappeared at One Buc Palace.
“He looks good,” Bowles said. “He looked good all summer. He looked good in the spring.
“He’s in tip-top shape, and he’s ready to go. So, yeah, he looks very good to me. He looks like he’s himself.”
And that is exactly what the Bucs need. And if Godwin is himself and healthy, Joe thinks there are enough defensive coordinators that won’t fully appreciate Jalen McMillan and don’t know about Ted Hurst.
If defenses key on Godwin, defensive coordinators should learn the hard way about Hurst and McMillan.
