Todd Bowles Issues Gushing Take On Christian Roseboom

Man, Todd Bowles sounded today like a man toasting his good friend and work comrade at an awards dinner.
But that wasn’t the case, or the venue. The Bucs’ head coach joined The Rondé Barber Show and was asked to name a player, one that doesn’t play outside linebacker, who fans aren’t talking about enough, or that has impressed him as a disruptor for the defense.
Bowles paused and give a 50-second answer.
“Christian Roseboom has been hurt but he is an outstanding football player,” Bowles said. “He is a very good football player. And believe me, that’s not to take anything way from [Alex] Anzalone, or [Josiah] Trotter or SirVocea [Dennis], but Roseboom, before he got hurt, he was like Johnny On The Spot every [day]. He just knows how to play and he’s tough. He’s bigger than you think in person. He’s tougher than you think. He’s never out of position. And somehow — he’s not the most athletic out of the [inside linebackers] — but he tracks down the jet sweeps; he’s right there. He knows where the stunts go; he’s right there for his run fit. He’s never out of pass position. And he is just a tough football player and I really like him, really like him.”
Well, that seems to explain why Bowles said on WDAE radio that inside linebacker is the team’s strongest postion.
Roseboom, 29, is somewhat of a mystery to Bucs fans. He didn’t play in preseason and was a free agent signing in March. He’s been dealing with a foot injury for a few weeks.
Undrafted Roseboom won a Super Bowl ring as a Rams backup and special teams player in the 2021 season. After a 135-tackle season in 2024, he moved on to Carolina last season and recorded 122 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble in 15 starts.
For reasons unclear, Roseboom was available on an inexpensive one-year contract for less than $2 million.

Tough? When he is not injured? Or when he is standing on the sidelines? I’m confused? Ahhhh, Bowels loves drafting and signing injured players. That’s the hope that Joe loves. Go Bucs.

We have quality players at ILB this season
Unlike last season with LVD, Voss, Jones, Bullock
Rozeboom, Trottier, Dennis, Anzelone are all quality players
Dennis wasn’t that bad last season, he was out of position
He’s not a NFL Mike LB, he never will be
And the defensive line couldn’t keep blockers off him
Javin Wright and Caden Fordham are more depth on the PS
This is a much improved unit from last season

Rozeboom’s agent is like “yea….write sh!t down” as he chews on a pear with his legs propped on his desk
Rozeboom’s – or “Bozeman (Montana)” as one of the Joe’s recently called him – agent only has to copy and paste from here on out. Because he ain’t ever coming up with anything as good as that ringing endorsement.

There is no control over injuries with any player.also takes longer to heal with age. I was glad he talked highly of Rozeboom, cause he has had a lot of tackles the last few years.no doubt he will be a great addition to this defense! Go Bucs!

Not to be skeptical of what Todd says but last at this exact same time of the year he stated “the ILBs group was the best of the defense “, so….
I’m filing this under seeing is believing. So now I just have to see him, Walker, Trotter and Ted Hurst to live up to the hype.

Obviously he’s injured now, but at the time I thought it was a sneaky good/ very affordable pickup. If he can stay healthy after he’s recovered, it really adds to our depth. He’s not a superstar but he’s been a highly productive player for a few years now.

Idk PFF had a worse grade on him then dennis last year if I remember right. Or it was around the same (terrible low 60s) but that could be a product of being on the field so much with players going down all over the board?

Ronde got a great interview out of Bowles, way more information than his pressers which is partly due to him being asked the same questions with different words. Like him or not, check out the interview Ronde Í think sets a better environment to get actual football talk out of Bowles.

A’Shawn, Nacho, Rozeboom, Anzalone and Muhammad would improve the front seven quite a bit on their own, without any of the youngsters. Add Bain, Trotter, and Walker to that.

So why keep Fordham over Pyburn?
We have 4 MLB who can all start.
Why keep a dime a dozen MLB Fordham over a legit elite future OLB?
Fordham over Pyburn will go down as huge Buccaneer blunder.
Like drafting Banks over the Honeybadger.
Or drafting Mark Barron over Kuechly.
Or passing on TJ Watt.

OR … You could look up for yourself what the new Bucs like Roseboom and Anzalone and Muhammad and Robinson have actually accomplished in the NFL. You just MIGHT come away as impressed as Bowles is. Compared to some of the ‘talent’ we’ve fielded in the past several years, I think we’ve struck the motherlode.

As I watched the Bucs preseason starving for inspiring ILB play I saw a flash of movement vaguely reminiscent of great Bucs ILBs of the past. He stayed kept moving in flashes so it was tough to get his number for a few plays but then I saw it was #46. Caden Fordham is a football player as evidenced by his first team all ACC selection.
Doug Plank, who wore #46 was a bone-crushing strong safety for the Bears from the mid 1970s into the eighties. Buddy Ryan turned him into a hybrid ILB as he innovated his blizzards of pressure defense know as the “4-6.”
I like every move Fordham makes. He is sideline to sideline and into the backfield at all times with little wasted motion. I’m not saying by any stretch build a defense around him but being 5 deep with dynamic ILBs might be the difference maker for Bowles blitz voodoo hybrid scheme. How’s Sonny Styles doing? I haven’t heard much.
Watching Pyburn is fun but the scout in me just says, “Give that kid a whiz quiz- if he passes get then I can get excited.”
The Bucs need inside depth more than outside depth and Fordhsm is a far more complete player continuing what he did in college into the pros. I hope nobody poaches him from the PS.

That was an outstanding interview from Ronde with Coach Bowles.
Never heard Bowles open up like this before, and it’s a MUST SEE.
In summary, Bowles is VERY excited about the talent now on the team, and especially, his new pieces on defense.

Love Lavontae wish he came back 1 more season but this LB room definitely got better imo! I love the additions in free agency and the Trotter pick! This defense has alot of potential this season. Go Bucs!

Bowles, in his feeble attempt to distract from reality, chooses a week before Opening Day to laud a guy who hasn’t played.
He should be praising Keionte Scott for being the “go-to” guy as a fourth round rookie. Meanwhile, our “star” from Notre Dame, the guy who should be leading this secondary, continues to do what he does best … sit!

Yes, it is true Bowles was high on the team last year. And they started 6-2 with wins over the Texans, Seahawks, and 49ers. Then all the injuries multiplied. Lost a bunch of close games. Bowles is still a damn good defensive mind. Personnel is better this year. But backups on offense could become a problem.

We may not see this defense hum until about week 4. That’s a lot of new faces coming together . If this defense shows really good improvement immediately lookout. By 4-5 games in they will be very good barring injuries of course. I have run many many simulated games against Bengals with A.I. and it saying bucs win about 76 percent of the time. The A.I. keeps going back to the cats online struggles. I ran some preconceived Sims with bucs getting 4+ sacks and the percentage jumps really high to like 93 percent with the A.I. saying a 10+ point win.
