Chris Braswell Signs With The Texans

September 2nd, 2026

Texans head coach/defensive guru DeMeco Ryans.

So over the past seven months, the NFL’s most ferocious defense, which resides in Houston, has signed two homegrown Buccaneers.

In March free agency, the Texans gave defensive tackle Logan Hall a nice contract. The Bucs’ 2022 second-round pick was a target of Texans head coach and defensive guru DeMeco Ryans. Joe talked to Ryans about it at the NFL annual meeting.

Now, Houston has added 2024 Bucs second-round bust Chris Braswell. The edge rusher was signed to the Houston practice squad after the Bucs launched him on Sunday.

Joe is so eager to see how those to guys fare in their new surroundings. Will they be better? Will they be worse?

  1. Lakeland Says:

Braswell is still buddies with Will Anderson Jr
They were buds during their time at Alabama
Maybe Will can get him motivated and up to speed

  2. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

It will be a HUGE strike against this coaching staff if these defensive cast offs succeed with the Texans

Ryans track record vs Todd’s is night and day

  3. LouisFriend Says:

At ‘Bama Braswell played with Dallas Turner who was a double team drawing wrecking ball. There were others as well that made it easier for Braswell to make an impact.

He’s walking into the same deal in Texas. If there’s a team where a struggling young player can get his confidence back while being surrounded with great talent – it’s there.

He’s a role player at best though. Which is how he should’ve been viewed in the draft to begin with. That’s on Licht, not Braswell.

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

    Better there than here.

  5. Steven007 Says:

Hall has a chance to be a solid depth player for them I would think. Braswell? Obviously he won’t sniff the field given their starters. But perhaps Anderson can motivate him. The thought that he would need a former college teammate as a motivator when he made it to the NFL is mystifying to me, but we’re all built differently.

  6. Ash Says:

We dont need to see the results of braswell to know the coaching is subpar in tampa that’s just silly joe.

  7. 941bucsfan Says:

Guys give it up… stop hoping and wishing all these guys will be good after bowles lol.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

HUGE INDICTMENT on bowles and the staff if these 2 become productive…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. BillyBucco Says:

So if our new CB is any good Andy Reid sucks as a coach.
    Got it.

  10. ChiBuc Says:

I guess this says what Demeco Ryan’s thinks of Todd as a coach and JL as a GM

  11. Marine Buc Says:

Another 2nd round swing and a miss by our “ROH” GM…

I swear Licht should just trade his 2nd round picks for 3rd and 4th round picks.

    His record speaks for itself.

  12. Hodad Says:

Licht will probably bring him back at some point, like SMB, and Skule. It’s what he does.

  13. magoobee Says:

Well now we can see if Lee is right and Bowles cannot coach up a player. If not, Licht is the problem, drafting defensive players that suck.

  14. garro Says:

Hall will be fine Joe. He played well here. After Todd got done putting him in the wrong position. He just never did get up to his draft status. Not a bust but not what we were hoping he would be.

Braswell never got enough playing time to even make it to the bust threshold. That is a draft pick that makes me wonder how he made it onto an NFL draft board at all.

Texans are having the same wishful thinking we did.

    Go Bucs!

  15. BatW Says:

1st it was Hall and now its Braswell. A real test if Bowles has lost his edge (pun intended).

  16. Rob Says:

Houston had the best defense the NFL has seen since the Bucs and Ravens of the early 2000’s. For them to take on two former Bucs second rounders should be fun to watch. I trust their D Line scouts, coaches and scheme more than I trust the Bucs.

  17. Letsbuccingo Says:

See what Alabama alumni Ryans can get out of Chris

  18. MelvinJunior Says:

I KNEW he’d end up THERE. He fits their mold. How embarrassing though, IF he were to ever turn the corner there… As well as Hall. AND, Pyburn in KC. Will be interesting keeping tabs. LoL.

  19. ChiBuc Says:

This is a fascinating experiment. If they’re succ3ssful, it’s on Todd. If they bust, on Jason…and we can finally put an end to the great Lee vs Ira debate. By this time next year one of them should be buying dinner for the other

  20. MelvinJunior Says:

@ BillyBucco Says: “So if our new CB is any good Andy Reid sucks as a coach.
    Got it.”

Andy Reid is NOT a “Defensive Guru.” HE is an “Offensive Guru.” There’s a BIG Difference.

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Hodad Says: “Licht will probably bring him back at some point, like SMB, and Skule. It’s what he does.”

Let’s just hope that HE and the rest of this entire current regime is already looong GONE by then.

  22. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Braswell won’t see the field with Hunter & Anderson in that DE room

Braswell won’t see the field with Hunter & Anderson in that DE room

  24. Permanently Moderated Says:

Now all of the sudden you would think Braswell is going to be an all pro in Houston the way some of the usual suspects are whining. He did nothing here.

  25. SlyPirate Says:

    WATCH THIS!!!!

If our castaways shine, Bowles is not only gone BUT Matt Burke will be a candidate for our HC job.

  26. Kgh4life Says:

Braswell isn’t good simple as that. He had one solid year in college. The same narrative was said about JTS. JTS went to 3 teams they got cut him, he then he retired. Some guys don’t have it.

  27. Dacake Says:

The “Chris Braswell has long arms” comment is still one of the best ever on this web site.

  28. Bojim Says:

Braswell is going to shock people.

  29. Anyhony Says:

Braswell going to Houston is a win, win for the Trolls. If he “shocks people” Trolls get to rip Bowles. If he fails Trolls get to rip Licht. What a country (in Borat voice)!!!

  30. Anyhony Says:

Why does Houston see potential in Lichts castoffs? Maybe Licht is pretty good at his job……….no.

  31. OurYear Says:

Weird. Many on here saying the Texans have the best defense in the last 20 years. Same people saying our offense is the worst in The league. How did we BEAT them last year???

  32. Lokog Says:

They will be better over there in trashtown that defense is full of dogs and tampas d is full of puppies

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Logan got a decent contract from the Texans for a reason – he’s not a bad player, but I do think he’s misued in 3-4, where he should be more of a 4-3 DE. We’ll see if he does anything or not, but from what I saw they view him more as their ‘big’ DE (so run stuffer) who can also play DT. I wouldn’t expect big stats, but they’ll probably be happy with him if they use him that way.

For Brasswell, hard to say obviously, but if they’re going to use him as a DE, perhaps shows something. But it’s just a PS signing in any case, they’re just kicking the tires is all.

  34. Frank Pillow Says:

Maybe in Houston he can just worry about stopping the run on the way to the passer—and not repeatedly asked to drop into coverage?

  35. Baking with Robinson Says:

Me too Joe. Let’s see if they were held back in Todd’s system.

  36. drdneast Says:

Halland Braswell will probably be backups which is probably all they should have been here.

  37. Bucs4ya Says:

I haven’t read through all the comments so excuse me if this has been said. The Texans LOVE Bucs players. If they continue to get guys we’ve let go and those guys produce. That should show rhat our coaching is the issue.

  38. Fred Says:

Both of them are soft they won’t see the field in that Def period!

  39. View from 132 Says:

Who cares. Does anyone look up who coached a pick if they move on and succeed? The Bowles haters are over the top.

  40. Teacherman Says:

Hall is listed as a backup DT.

    At 7 million.

    Seems pricey for a backup.

    I’m so happy he’s gone.

He was half the man as Gholston.

Gholston is one of the most underrated and unappreciated Bucs legend of all time.

    Great observation. ROLL TIDE!

  42. Capt.Tim Says:

    “Chris Braswell will shock people”
Yes. Once the Texans cut him, and he begins his Electricians apprenticeship

  43. SummerofGeorge Says:

Braswell can finally shock the world.

No more Swiss cheese scheme to hold him back.

Todd is just a snake oil salesman.

  44. BucEmUp Says:

I cannot wait for this to unfold. Both of these guys will out produce from their time in tampa. Bowles is not good…

  45. Heath Hunt Says:

Who won more Super Bowls as a DC Ryans or Bowles?

  46. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Hall might be ok. Braswell isn’t going to be on a roster by Halloween.
