Bucs Claim Cornerback Kevin Knowles Off Waivers

September 2nd, 2026

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Add a new cornerback to the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster.

That’s Kevin Knowles, who spent last season with the Chiefs. Knowles was an undrafted rookie in 2025 and finished with 82 snaps on defense with 15 tackles and two passes defensed. He also played on most of Kansas City’s special teams snaps.

Joe is very pleased to see the Bucs sign a couple of corners after Sunday evening’s initial submission of the 2026 53-man roster. First came Super Bowl cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, and now the wavier claim announcement of Knowles.

Joe can’t claim to know what Knowles has to offer, but he’s a Florida kid (Florida State), a supreme athlete, and he’s got experience on a first-class NFL team.

    we needed a body…we got a body lol….

Lets hope the pass rush gets home all year!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Beeej Says:

I think O line good–we had our top eight players on the bench throughout preseason

  4. BuccoMarty Says:

One wonders if the clowns at TPP are looking at the same Buccaneers team that the Joes are.

Here’s an actual sentence they wrote regarding the Kevin Knowles signing:

“Tampa Bay has a deep cornerback room with Zyon McCollum, Jacob Parrish, Benjamin Morrison, Keionte Scott, and Ayden Garnes — along with veteran Sean Murphy-Bunting on the practice squad.”

“Deep cornerback room?” They must be talking about the number, not the quality, ’cause…

  5. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

From what I’ve seen so far, Knowles played inside at nickel a bunch at FSU, but his pro career he’s played 80 defensive snaps to 231 special teams snaps. So more than likely taking on what we might not ask SMB to do in terms of covering kicks OR he could just be a placeholder for Josh Hayes.

Measured in at 5’9″ 190ish at his pro day. Ran a 4.48 40 & had a 41 inch vert which is crazy good and he’s pretty physical guy at the point of attack. Not fast, but fast & quick enough.

Unlikely. There’s not a ton of quality depth walking the streets. Plus, they already kept 10, and unless there’s an experienced starter with greater upside hanging out there (unlikely), they’re not going to replace the younger guys they’ve invested in like Shrauth, Haggard, and Chukwuma. Even Skule, they seem to like a good bit. Maybe Feeney is expendable if a decent G/C backup were floating around.

  7. MadMax Says:

Hmmm, G Kevin Zeitler is still available…and he’s durable! Thats for sure!

big dog licht rockin’ the classic colors…

it reminds me, dec 6th is the throwback game, and dec 20th is the all pewter uni game…

i guess we gotta wait until december for the the switch ups on the unis…

if we happen to be rocking the creamsicles on an earlier date as well, please someone let it be known

  9. can-we-get-rid-of-licht-please Says:

I don’t think Licht knows what he is doing – just plays three-card-monte with players to delight the rubes who refuse to see the writing on the wall – in some future interview from his rocking-chair Bowles will bitterly call out Licht for his personnel moves

  10. Not a good look Says:

The Chiefs had crazy DB depth and chess pieces for Spags. If you’re gonna scoop up one from another teams heap, the Chiefs aren’t a bad option (…and some Pfookin’ Pyburn Payback too)

But freaking brutal for Fordham – who deserved a spot (had literally just got done watching his introductory PC after making the initial 53-man roster and then saw this news)

And SMB and the Noles’ Knowles are far better outside options than Kemon Hall and Chase Lucas were!

  11. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

No one Knowles if this guy is going to pan out but who Knowles, maybe he’ll turn out to be a good backup and a special teams ace.

  12. adam from ny Says:

right now murphy bunting is like :

“hmmm……i thought i was the corner they needed”

  13. bucs63 Says:

    Throwin Danny Smith a bone…

  14. adam from ny Says:

or could josh hayes be in trouble roster wise, when he gets healthy…

or is he potentially on the chopping block…

    time will tell

  15. Hodad Says:

    Yawn.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“But freaking brutal for Fordham – who deserved a spot”

Same, but I think the team is expecting him to clear waivers later on today. Probably just a formality behind making the claim on Knowles to make space then both or either will likely end up on the PS once SMB is elevated.

  17. StormyInFl Says:

Waived Fordham, but a stiff like Sirvocea Dennis stays…

  18. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    JL had the whole offseason
and now he’s the hero for bringing in two DB’s after the 53 cutdowns
It’s just a waiting game now
    Until the emotional pain resumes…

  19. Lakeland Says:

Kevin Knowles is only 23 years old
A 4 year starter at Florida State

He played good with Kansas City last season
He even downed 2 punts inside the 5 against the Cowboys
He’s a keeper, a young guy with experience

  20. kgh4life Says:

Solid pick up. The Chiefs have a history of drafting and developing good CBs. Even if Knowles doesn’t make an impact on defense, he should improve the punt and kick coverage.

  21. Tony Says:

Fordham should still be on this team. Sure even though they were playing against backups but Fordham & Pyburn were constantly around making plays.

  22. FortMyersDave Says:

Mad Max: All the serviceable OL that were available seemed to have been traded for day 3 picks and everyone knows that Jason will not give up draft picks to bring depth, dude does not roll that way.

  23. BridleOaks Buc Says:

Were Fordham and Pyburn making plays on special teams?

  24. MadMax Says:

Wont have to give up a pick for Zeitler!

  25. Steven007 Says:

The pyburn thing bothers me far less than many others it seems. The coaching staff saw him everyday at training camp. Everyday at the practices with other teams. He obviously showed out against guys who will never play in the league but to pretend like he did Anything other than that is just ludicrous. All the Chiefs know is what they saw during the preseason against the aforementioned non-nfl players. They didn’t see him in practice everyday. Given our new depth at linebacker, I’m okay with the decision.

  26. JoeyJoeSteinKippahSchwartz Says:

Another frozen turd wrapped in a condom. This “Milwaukee Wilkshake” of a player will be regrettable

  27. Capt.Tim Says:

    BuccoMarty,
If you fill a room with of cow pies to the ceiling, it’s a deep room!

    The Bucs Defensive backs?
We added a rookie, an undrafted rookie, a guy who hasn’t played in 2 years.
Not much help for this year.
Kevin Knowles, on the other hand- will offer some immediate help.

That’s good, we are gonna need it!
If you see Zyon or Parrish limp off the field- it’ll be a good time to start studying up on the 2027 draft prospects!

  28. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I didn’t think JL and TB would go out and get a needed supplement to the team at this date. Good for them.

    OK, mad max?

What are your credentials to make that judgment? Your opinion is certainly not in line with the vast majority who live in reality. Sounds like reactionary, uninformed crybabyism.

  30. Oxycondomns Says:

    Go Knowles!

  31. Mobucs Says:

Steven, from one report, it looks like the Chiefs are looking at Pyburn as a hands-down defensive end in a rotation rather than an OL. I don’t know if it will work out, but what you’re looking for makes a difference in the evaluation of a player.

  32. Gbobucsfan Says:

Excited to see Miles Killabrew on ST this year.

  33. MadMax Says:

    Your point? @oregon

  34. BakerFan Says:

You are pulling off the scrap heap, so just expect scraps, part timers who can fill in. Anything more is great and lucky.

Fordham had 3 tackles in the last game against the Jags alone…so yeah.
