Baker Mayfield An Author?

“Quarterback” will pay off for Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Any time a quarterback is featured in a high-profile TV documentary, that raises awareness. And given how Omaha Productions, the Peyton Manning-owned outfit that produced the show is putting a positive spin on all the “Quarterback” subjects, Mayfield might even become a respected if not likeable guy in markets outside Tampa Bay.
It may already be working on “Good Morning Football.”
The weekday morning show had a segment on Mayfield and how panel memembers perceived him in the series. Former NFL receiver Isaiah Stanback had one word to describe Mayfield.
“Steadfast.”
“I believe that you have to use the word steadfast,” Stanback said. “Baker Mayfield has been tried and true. He has been through it, but he has been unwavering no matter where he’s been in his career.
“You talk about somebody who’s had the Heisman, somebody who was a high draft pick, somebody who was a starter, somebody who didn’t have success, somebody who got benched, somebody who got cut, somebody who got injured, and then somebody who got themselves all the way back in a very competitive position and got his organization to one of the best in the league.
“This dude has been through it absolutely all.”
In fact, Stanback said, Mayfield might have a helluva story in his memory bank if he ever wants to make extra bucks after his career. There are all the ups and downs — from being a backup in high school to bolting Texas Tech to becoming a walk-on at Oklahoma and on and on and on.
“He needs to write a book ASAP,” Stanback said. He’s “like Rocky. But he, to me, is somebody who is very steadfast, and somebody that you can look at and say, ‘You know what? He has been through it all, and he stayed true to who he is, no matter where he’s been, no matter what everybody has had to say about.'”
Stanback has a helluva point. Mayfield is pretty much the same guy he was at Oklahoma. A fighter. A baller. Spills his guts on the field (which both helps and hurts his team). Plays with heart and passion.
Joe doesn’t think anyone could ever say Mayfield has ever half-assed it on the field. When fans pay to see the Bucs play, they know Mayfield will give it 110 percent.
Now, if Mayfield can only start racking up playoff wins.

Heart and moxie, yes a boat load. Brains and poise, a thimble full.
Is he a QB1 in the NFL, sadly yes because the talent pool has become very diluted.
On most teams he’d be a great backup, not the starter. That’s why Tampa is the perfect spot for him.
There’s zero expectation for success with this HC\DC, GM, and QB.
Just get max value on your contract despite the results on the field.
A Todd Bowles specialty. Failing upwards is his superpower. Baker has learned from the best.

we are fortunate to have this guy as our Franchise QB. We lucked out after TB12 to have a gutsy and charismatic QB to lead the way fall in our lap. Anybody that does not like Baker and calls themselves a Bucs Fan- is not really a Bucs fan-just a Hater. What -he plays hurt too much? SMH

The playoff wins will come when the offense and defense are relatively healthy come the playoffs- and do their typical getting hot at the end of the season. The health happened *yet* in his tenure but I certainly feel like the Bucs are (over)due.

LeSean McCoy has been talking trash about Baker again. And it’s one heckuva double standard. With people like that (who are clearly biased and awful people) in his ear, it’s no wonder Mike Evans went somewhere else. What a horrible choice in friends.

You mean the regression plan where we keep winning the division? Weird regression plan, BabyAgenda. I’ll bet we even regress into winning it again this year. When you keep winning, you don’t get very high draft picks to dramatically improve your team. You have to do it little by little. We got lucky this year and may have improved the defense by leaps and bounds by getting a bunch of players later than they were projected. You must have missed that too. Seriously, are you sure you aren’t a fan of a different team?

When and if the team is good enough, the playoff wins will come. I thought we learned from Sam Darnold and the Seahawks that a team has to come together to win it all. If it was all him then why didn’t the Vikings win a playoff game in 2024? Because the team wasn’t good enough.

Nailed it, Oscar. When the team is ready and healthy, we will win it all again. We’re close to the talent level we need with the starters on offense, but we don’t know where the defense is yet this season for sure. We could be far closer than we think or still far away. Looking forward to this season to get an idea where we actually are at. I do think the defense will be dramatically improved.

It wasn’t really all that clever, BabyAgenda. Especially since Evans left undoubtedly for more targets. The Bucs beat the Niners last year, so he didn’t go there to win more or get a Super Bowl. He’s thinking about the HoF.
Too bad he doesn’t realize he’s already a first balloter.

Changing the subject(a little), there is a podcast today that ripped McCoy a new one. I don’t listen to it much, but today they put McCoy in his place remarkably well. If you are po’d at McCoy, “Locked On Bucs” is a must listen, today.

Copperpot, I agree with you on a lot of points, except I think you vastly underestimate Baker. The guy is easily better than the average and is close to top 10 currently. Who in NFC South would you rather have?

Would you rather win a Sunday 1pm game or a primetime game?
It’s a trick question.
Besides, quarterbacks are far from the only reason a team wins or loses. That’s why you should measure a QB by the number of TD’s and yards he throws. And that puts Baker in the top 3 in the NFL since he joined the Bucs. Inconvenient for your BabyAgenda, I know. Go wipe away your tears and blow yer nose and move on.

The 49ers had a very large numbers of injuries in 2024 and finished with a 6-11 record. In 2025 they again were decimated by injuries and yet they finished 12-5. I don’t remember anyone on the 49ers making any excuses in either season. So you’re correct about that copperhead. They certainly deserve credit for what they accomplished to be sure. The Bucs had a ton of injuries as well in 2025 but could not overcome them. At the same time, I don’t remember any player on the Bucs making any excuses as you allege. If you’re talking about posters here or media people, that’s a different thing altogether. I’m sure the 49er faithful made plenty of excuses as well in 2024.

Dumbest post of the season, huh? Obviously you either didn’t read it or stop to think about it. Losing Tristan Wirfs for a couple of games affects the Bucs *a lot*. Losing Logan Hall for a couple games, not so much. Why is that difficult to understand? If the 49ers lose their starting Tight End, they still have other stars on offense. If the Bucs lose Wirfs, he’s critical on every offensive play and his backup is nowhere near as talented and it will be hugely disruptive to both passing plays and rushes… So a much bigger effect, no?

Look at the statements on March 13 It was a no Brainer story from the 49ers . Evans says it was just about everything. Fans, players stepping up on the field, culture plus they needed a number 1 receiver. If everything he says is true then he was fedup with everything about this team. So if people blame one or two people sure sounds like it was more.

The Niners have proven my point that if you lose certain key players it affects your team a lot more. They lost roughly the same numbers of players in 2024 and 2025, but it affected them way more 2 seasons ago. Losing offensive linemen and corners are huge because the opposing coordinator can more easily exploit the weakness. Simple.
And of course, relative abilities of backups are important too.

For all the Mayfield haters who make idiotic comments on these pages, chew on this fact. Mayfield has thrown for more TD’s (95) in the last 3 years than every NFL QB except Jared Goff. Yes, more than Allen, Herbert, and others.

So, this show typically causes QB’s to gain interest/favorable view, is in his final contract year and you think waiting to sign him to make him prove it will force him to take less?
We’ll just draft another one, and with our proven capability of developing QB’s (aka Famous Jameis) and losing more than you win for maybe 5 years, cuz it’s such a lock.
Yeah, tell me again that Baker doesn’t have any leverage.
Sign the guy, or face a really uncertain future. The market is the market $50m will be cheap in a couple of years.
