  1. Steven #55 Says:

Better to wait and see how he plays this year. Would rather pay a bit more next year (or Franchise) than pay for a 4 year deal that might look foolish at the end of the season.

  2. jug1 Says:

Lets be honest, in the pocket he is average at best and quite inaccurate. Yes, when flushed sometimes he can make outrageous plays but I would prefer if he could make more plays in the pocket instead of getting those Winston happy feet all the time!

  3. jug1 Says:

in other words, let him play it out. If he becomes Brady all of the sudden pay him, if he continues down the Winston path…..dueces!

  4. Bee Says:

Nah, let him finish this contract and move on. If you want to tread water for the next few seasons then resign him. If you want different results you’ll need different coaches and players.

Baker is not worth the money and its more likely that he’ll be the same or worse than for him to magically get better. His next contract will be from another team.

  5. Lefty R Says:

Yes!!! but I want a different Defensive Coordinate by July 1st!!!

    This whole thing is outrageous!!!

  6. 3.28.Evans Says:

    Ham sandwich

  7. BA’s Red Pen Says:

It doesn’t matter until they fire the defensive coordinator, he could not win with Brady so why would anyone think he’d be successful with any other quarterbacks?

  8. Mobucs Says:

I came across an article that claimed that because of the termination date of his present contract, if he is franchised, it will be a cap hit of $80M. So, maybe not such and easy option.

  9. Bakerfan Says:

He should hold out until new deal is done. That is just the way it is done for simple reasons. If they don’t come to an agreement then they need to pursue a trade

  10. 813bucboi Says:

    BEE

    perfectly said!!!!

    gotta wait bake!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  11. Buc1987 Says:

    The yes votes are dominating.

  12. Lokog Says:

Its what stupid teams do sign a mediocre player to a contract who’s proven he can’t win big games baker carr is just not a winner its been seen his whole nfl career different year same thing i stilp want him to do good but the reality is that we already saw before what he can do

  13. MelvinJunior Says:

There is a very good reason for why NO Quarterback” past the age of 31, gets a 5-YEAR Extension in the NFL… Especially, at a Max-level $$$$. Not a TRUE 5-years deal. Brady and Russell Wilson (both started ‘multiple’ Super Bowls) are the ONLY ones, & Brady always signed for Farrrrrr LESS than HIS market value. Also, he is “TOM FREAKING BRADY.” The Denver-Russell Wilson move was a DUMB/DESPERATE move in the first place, by brand new owners, who didn’t know WTF they were doing. Mahomes’s recent extension is NOT a true 5-YEAR Extension. They’ve all had an “agreement” set in place for YEARS NOW. So, it was nothing more than just a formality. And, AGAIN… HE is “PATRICK FREAKING MAHOMES. Hell, Jared Goff signed his current deal for only 4-YEARS, and HE was just 29 years old at the time, AND he has been to a fricken SUPER BOWL (and had a better career, and is a better/much more consistent QB). Dak was right at 31 when HE re-signed, BUT it was for only 4-YEARS, and he had Jerry over a barrel, with ALL the leverage.

Baker is NOT 26 years-old. And, he will NOT age well. He’s ALREADY, constantly banged up and “hurt/injured.” It makes ZERO SENSE to extend him at ALL. There is NOTHING to gain by doing so. He is under contract RIGHT NOW, and you have TWO ‘franchise’ tags in your back pocket. So, you ‘play-it out’ and see what happens… There are waaaayyy too many ‘uncertainties’ with this current Bucs Team, and BAKER being one of them. There is NO-WAY that “YOU” are a true (or smart) “Bucs Fan,” if YOU are wishing for the BUCS to make such a risky move, by overpaying for ANY one player. Especially, when they have ALL the leverage and don’t have to. It’s the exact same people who were SCREAMING to pay him $50-$60 MILLION during the last go around… “Whatever IT TAKES,” they would scream… “DO IT NOW,” they’d yell. When, “I” said all along, that a 3-year/$100-MIL deal (“TOPS”) is a fair deal for BOTH sides. And, that I’d add a couple of incentives, but THAT’S IT. I said THEN, that nothing else makes any sense, because they’d only be bidding against THEMSELVES. These 60%+ in this survey/poll here, do not know FOOTBALL, or how it works! AND, they don’t know how to use THEIR BRAINS. It’s like WHO’s side are YOU on here, the Bucs or some selfish ‘professional’ ATHLETE QB!? Oh, and by the way… What happened to that BIG “DISCOUNT” Lmao. Just as I’ve tried telling you all, all along… There. Will. Be. NO. “DISCOUNT.” Baker WILL take every single last penny, HE CAN GET. Period. End of Story. You people live inside of this very weird “adult” Bucs Fantasyland, that is DELUSIONAL, and not based on REALITY.

I’m sure you said the same about Sam Darnold last year.

  15. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

    *Before last year

  16. jcscycles Says:

Sign him. He will be fine this season and so will the team. QB salarys are getting reset with others signing. $64 million a year for Mahommes.

Ignore the troll sociopaths. Don’t read their posts or engage them.

When the Bucs start the season winning they will soon disappear…

  17. BucsSkitzo Says:

It’s time to pay Baker. Dude has been playing on team friendly deals since he came to Tampa. He made two pro bowls and is by far the best QB in the division. He plays with just as much if not more heart than anyone else in the league. He’s gold as far as moral goes. His teammates love and respect him. He puts his body on the line for the team on a regular basis. And quite frankly I think showing baker love (that he deserves) will only attract good players by showing them the bucs appreciate it when players give it their all. And in my personal opinion if you can’t win with baker then you have bigger problems than you think. The fan base lives him as well and he’s very fun to watch. We don’t wanna go through a freeman, glennon, Winston era again. Take brady out of the equation and bakers the best QB we’ve ever had. Pay Baker!

  18. Woodman Says:

It has already been stated and proven the Franchise Tag will cost 50 mil not 80 mil.

  19. MelvinJunior Says:

Timing (and circumstances) has A LOT more to do with it than anything else… Though, he’s been a MUCH better, more consistent QB than Baker, NOBODY has had better ‘timing’ (and luck), than Kirk Cousins. Baker picked THE WORST possible time (other than this upcoming season), to have a BAD YEAR. But, hey… He got all his commercial, and full-length ‘in-home’ pregame interview. AND, his big “Netflix Special” complete with a film crew following him around. I posted on here that very morning, right after I heard about his big ‘in-home’ pregame interview with his wife and everything. I WARNED, because we’d already SEEN this rodeo before. And, it only got worse from there. You can compare their ‘Primetime’ games, but EVEN Andy Dalton has had a MUCH MUCH better career than Baker.

  20. Colin in Canada Says:

Joes, these polls are useful because it shows the majority of votes in the positive to sign him. Yet the majority of the comments appear negative. So it just shows that the majority of commenters are that loud negative minority of bucs fans. Absolutely! –Joe It’s an absolute no brainer to sign Baker Mayfield to an extension.

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Smoke PorterHouse Says: “I’m sure you said the same about Sam Darnold last year.”

Ummmm, Darnold did NOT get a 5-YEAR, Max-level $$$$ DEAL. HE got a “Baker Deal.” Exactly, in the range that “I” said HE would get AND deserved. Even though, HE WON 14-GAMES (14-3), & is a younger, stronger, bigger, better ATHLETE. With NONE of the BS to deal with, and distractions. He is a LEADER. The type of “Leader,” that players respect, and does not wear on.

  22. Obvious One Says:

It would be a mistake to panic and sign him before we see where things are. Besides there’s no need to at this point.

It’s be better if the fans want to win more games this year. You know “maximum effort”. . Just saying

  23. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Let’s see how he plays this year and then we’ll worry about it. If he’s great, it costs us a few more bucks. If he sucks, we probably have a bad record and pick somebody new in the 1st round.

  24. #1bucsfan Says:

Only want him signed before week 1 if he gives you a a really good deal. I like baker and the way he goes all out. It’s what made me a fan of his but he’s inconsistent. When coen had him it was a career year for him. Bucs are in a pickle cause there’s no one out there right now who is better. Maybe in the draft next year but then it’s still a crap shoot. Baker gives us the best chance at winning but he’s lost us games as well. What I liked about Brady was he was never the highest paid QB even tho he should have bin cause he was the best but he understood that if he takes a pay cut the team could be built better around him and I hope baker does the same thing.

    LOL!

Meanwhile, the comments are about 60% of people saying sign Baker to a new deal no matter how awful he played last year, about 20% saying play out the year and see how he responds since he’s under contract, then another 20% commenting that they’re sick of reading people commenting about comments.

The spin where the Baker Boi(s) have to always be the victims is amusing.

  26. 3rd and 28 Says:

    Fiddle now, snivel later.
But, it takes two to tango.

  27. Lessismore Says:

No one thought Brad Johnson could win a Super Bowl either.
Bucs have had 40 starting QBs in the last 50 years.

Sign him – get it done. What it costs and how many years is entirely up to the owners who are Billionaires. There’s only one guy that touches the ball on every offensive play and that’s the QB.

If all 53 guys on the roster had the heart Baker has, they wouldn’t have gone 2-7 down the stretch against just plain bad teams. Heck, if even half the guys on the team had the heart and desire to win, we’d have made the playoffs.

Baker didn’t coach or play special teams – how many games did those blocked punts/field goals/ missed tackles cost us?

Baker didn’t play any of the positions on defense – how many games did their poor play (generous description) and/or poor defensive schemes cost us?

Baker didn’t sign Bridgewater – how many loses did we have because we didn’t have a back up quarterback to play in a game or two (think Mac Jones).

We barely got out of Atlanta with a win in the first game last season – the defense couldn’t hold a lead and Yoo missed the winning field goal. Starting the season 6-2 was in large part due to heroic efforts by the offense – the guys that weren’t injured – just turned out to be a mirage.

    ^^^^^^^^

63.2%, 3,693, 26 TD’s, 11 INT’s, 90.6 QB Rating is “awful” to you Rod Munch? You must not have been a fan of the Bucs for long, because there’s many, many Bucs QB’s with much worse stat lines than this.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

They can always go and get another Mike Glennon. That would make some of you happy I guess.

I truly hope you were joking when you wrote this. If you really think Brad Johnson was the one that led that team to the super bowl then you are dumber then the 471 people who voted yes in this poll. I think Warren, Derrick, Ronde, and Lynch would have a differing opinion

Singlehandedly costing your team the playoffs by choking when it matters most. Getting your entire offensive staff fired. Having Mike Evans leave down saying he wants to play on a team “with a good QB.”

After week 6, with very few exceptions, Baker was terrible – and that is a 100% factual statement.

    ————

So it’s extend Baker right this moment – or the Bucs have to play with Mike Glennon going forward. There’s no other options like playing out the year to see what happens first, then making a decision based on that. Nope, it’s extend Baker now, or Glennon or a Glenn like substitute on a Steve Young/LA Express lifetime contract.

  33. Lessismore Says:

    Jug1:
    Exactly my point.
It doesn’t take a top 5 QB for a team to win a Super Bowl.
    Trent Dilfer anyone?

  34. LynchMob50 Says:

There’s zero incentive to sign Baker until after 2026.

He’s already on the team and needs to prove his worth.

If you fired Bowles and brought in a great HC and a solid DC, we could do just as well if not better with a quality rookie QB.

Baker is not a difference maker when the game is on the line.

Just look at his prime time numbers. Next!!!

  35. LynchMob50 Says:

    Thursday Night: 0-2

    Sunday Night: 0-2

    Monday Night: 1-4

    Playoffs: 0-1

Baker’s prime time record as a Buc is 1-9. Soft as melting butter.
