If The Bucs Are Serious About Winning, Then Where Is Jason Taylor?
May 12th, 2026Joe has typed this before. And it’s worthy of typing again.
If the Bucs truly are serious about winning this year, which will result in saving jobs, then why isn’t one of the best assistant coaches in college football who has demonstrated he knows what he is doing with edge rushers, not been hired by the Bucs?
Joe is referring to Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor who is the defensive line coach with Miami, specializing in defensive ends.
When Taylor came on board with the Hurricanes, Miami had a middling defense. Two years later the Canes jumped from No. 64 to No. 22 in the nation. And all of Taylor’s defensive linemen were named All-ACC.
We know what Taylor did last year. He turned Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain into complete beasts of defense ends. They mauled and punished people week-in and week-out and nearly helped The U pull off an upset of Indiana in the national championship game.
Joe would say that Taylor has a better resume than maybe all of the Bucs’ defensive assistants except for Larry Foote.
Putting Taylor in charge of working with Bain would just be perfect.
Taylor, at the end of his career, played under Bucs coach Todd Bowles in Miami. So he knows what makes Bowles tick.
So why isn’t Taylor with the Bucs? It’s not like going from Miami to Tampa is like going to Buffalo. It’s still good and warm most of the year in Tampa.
The phone call to Taylor asking how many zeros he needs on a check to get him up here should have already been placed.
What’s the holdup?

Why hasn’t any team n the NFL hired him yet? I mean he’s the next great DL coach guru and turned Mesidor and Bain into first rounders..32 teams out there and no one has called to hire him.

This is what I’ve been saying all alongalong. Why can’t we get a defensive coordinator?
Why aren’t people knocking down the door to work for the greatest defensive coach ever.
The biggest greatest defensive mind in the League that everybody should be trying to work for, kind of like how (offensively) everybody wants to work for McVey or Shanahan.

Someone has a man-crush…
LOL!

Who knows if it wasn’t placed and turned down? Those jobs in college athletics tend to be more stable and very lucrative. People also sometimes make promises when they take jobs. There’s lots of potential reasons why he might not be able to take it/move.

Seems like he would be a good hire. Todd probably does not want to let go of one of his defensive coaches to give Taylor a “title” as Bowles is loyal to a fault with his coaching staff which was really detrimental last year (just like Koetter’s loyalty to Smitty). So how about giving Taylor the title :special adviser to the defense, edge, Bowles…. One thought: perhaps Taylor simply likes coaching the kids down at the U and does not want an NFL job, has anyone asked him?
May 12th, 2026 at 7:14 am
Who really wants to take a job with Todd as the boss?? Seriously. He’s a lame duck on his way out either retirement or otherwise.
May 12th, 2026 at 7:16 am
Serious question Joe’s: Is hiring Jason Taylor even remotely on the horizon for the Bucs or is the hiring just a “Joe pipe dream?”
May 12th, 2026 at 7:16 am
Way too late, spring games have happened, coaching staffs are pretty much set around the country and nobody is asking if Jason Taylor has any desire to coach at the NFL level. Taylor has to make sure Moten, Lightfoot, Blount, and that Miami defense back to the CFP.
This was a move to make back in January, now if we had some way of inviting Taylor to camp just to “observe” that’d serve as much purpose, but hiring is pretty much done.

The Same Reason as to why Jim Schwartz has not been hired to replace the current but ineffective Buccaneer DC…… The Glazers and Mr AC DC FEAR THE BEARD!!!

@Joe, the hold up is your ROH GM, Jason Licht. He is a trend follower, not setter. He needs ownership or the HC to nudge him into action, he does not do the nudging and the former only cares about the money and the current HC is a dullard when it comes to change.
May 12th, 2026 at 7:31 am
Has Jason Taylor ever indicated that he has a desire to coach in the NFL?
It seems rediculous to criticize the Bucs without first answering that question.
May 12th, 2026 at 7:43 am
So why don’t the Bucs hire every great coach that has made great players look great in college? Who won the championship in 2025 ? Have they hired those coaches yet?
May 12th, 2026 at 7:55 am
He might be on a multi-year contra t and cannot leave.
May 12th, 2026 at 7:57 am
JOE-
Why haven’t you or somebody else asked that question directly to the Bucs brass?

BINGO!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

We don’t have a direct line to Bucs executives. YOU DO! And I have yet to hear that asked at those press conferences with the horrible audio. Please ask for us, Joes. I’m sure by posting this article, you know Bucs brass will see this and read the comments.
I’d bring Taylor in just to see our guys play with the fire the Miami defense played with last year, especially the line. They got after it. Our line hasn’t had that since Suh left.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:04 am
What an insult to our current coach. Time for Bain to shine with a new coach.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:10 am
We have Bowels!
May 12th, 2026 at 8:12 am
Way to tell your current defensive staff “Yeah, on second thought, we don’t think you can do the job, so, because of that and because we drafted this one particular player, we’re bringing in a new guy.” Stop beating this drum already.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:12 am
Maybe he likes where he’s at in life?
May 12th, 2026 at 8:21 am
Why haven’t they hired Warren Sapp?
May 12th, 2026 at 8:22 am
Bringing JT in to coach would be an admission to failure by current DC (Todd) so ain’t no way there would ever happen or be discussed.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:30 am
Who wouldn’t rather live in Miami over most NFL cities
May 12th, 2026 at 8:33 am
He’s not gonna leave Miami to work for Toilet Bowles
May 12th, 2026 at 8:39 am
Bowles is the reason he wouldn’t come to Tampa.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:40 am
He has to want to go to the NFL as well. Maybe they actually did contact him about it.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:41 am
Maybe he doesn’t WANT to work in the NFL… maybe he’s not as good as you think… the team D went from #64 to #22… that could have been for any reason. Players maturing, new scheme, another new coach, anything. Hall-of-fame players often make the worst coaches. I’m not saying he’s bad… I’m saying there is probably ample reason why he isn’t coaching in the NFL.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:41 am
Lt. Dan. The answer to your question is yes.
May 12th, 2026 at 8:45 am
I mean, why not raid the cupboards of every position coach in college that has good players? Ohio State wide receiver coach? Come on down. Maybe their defensive line coach as well? And on down the line. A bit of a chicken and egg thing here. Were these not highly rated recruits from high school? Certainly Bain was. Would he have just been a pedestrian player without Taylor? This seems like one of those weird Joe pipe dreams. That he refuses to give up on. As people have already mentioned, I’m sure they went down this road if it was even a possibility. Those tires have certainly been kicked. The guy lives in Miami and coaches in… Miami. What makes you think he’d even be interested?

I want one too…but I don’t think he qualified for the DC position. DL Assistant maybe.

Maybe. Maybe not. We all thought he would be gone this year.
Outside of injuries, I don’t think this year cannot be better than last year…so he might just save his job.
I’m guessing that if the team makes it to the Superbowl, he’ll retire…but it’s just a guess. If he makes it to the Conference championship, he might decide to stay another year, convincing himself that he could go all the way next year.

Make it so joe. We need something after what Hassan did to us
May 12th, 2026 at 9:07 am
Bain is a huge talent. May not be my cup of tea but all you’ve got to do is watch him play. Dang near scary. Joe pipe dreamed Emeka and he is going to be a star. Joe’s been pipe dreaming an edge for years and man, I believe Bain is going to be one, too. So I’m saying that Joe’s pipe dreaming isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But with Bain, and players like him, I believe Joe could make a living coaching him. All you have to do is stand back(way back) and yell “sic-em!!
May 12th, 2026 at 9:22 am
Joes pipe dream is never going to happen. But we’re going to hear about it for months to come.
And he will never ask such a pouted question to Bowels, Licht, or any of the Glazer kids.
Simple answer: “They’re sticking with Bowles!!!” – Ira Kaufman
Now go have a coconut donut.
