Liam Coen Talked To Jason Licht, Says Zac Robinson Is A Screen Game Master

March 31st, 2026

Jaguars head coach and 2024 Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

A year ago at this time, some Bucs fans might have wondered if Liam “El Serpiente” Coen, the Jaguars head coach, and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht might throw down with fists behind a bar.

Coen had jilted Licht in January of 2025 after agreeing to accept a huge raise to stay on as Bucs offensive coordinator. Coen slithered out of town without a proper ‘thanks but no thanks.’ Tensions were hot.

Well, time has cooled things down.

Coen noted this morning at the NFL owners meetings that he had a conversation with Licht this week and one topic was the Bucs having regular joint training camp practices and a preseason game with Jacksonville. (There was no mention of Licht blocking Coen on Facebook.) Coen thinks the Bucs and Jags having a long-term summer relationship would be smart and sensible. He wants it to happen but acknowledges ultimately the NFL makes the call on preseason games.

Coen also talked about one of his very best friends, new Bucs playcaller Zac Robinson, the fifth Bucs offensive coordinator in as many years.

What stood out most to Joe — and yeah, it still pains Joe a little to see and hear Coen — is Coen raving about what a genius Robinson is in the screen game.

Coen said Robinson’s work with the Falcons last season produced highly impress screen-game film and the Bucs should be a diverse force offensively behind their stout offensive line.

How classic- 2 latest articles on head coaches who got out of the Bucs building and they both have better teams than the Bucs do now.
TEAM GLAZER again shows why they are cheapest worst owners in all of sports. Just take a look at that dump One Buc for instance.

  2. Deeboooo Says:

I think anyone in their right mind would take a promotion if offered lol.

  3. Hodad Says:

If Robinson turns out to be the next Coen, don’t let this one out of the building.

    Wah!

You don’t know who is better yet. It’s a new season. I’m guessing Canales has this season left before he is fired.

The Bucs will bounce back better than you expect.

  5. Lakeland Says:

You have to look beyond the screen passes
And look at who’s receiving the screen passes
Bijan Robinson is one of the best, if not the best receiving backs

I think Zac wanted Kenneth Gainwell not so much as a runner
But as a receiving RB, for his offense, to duplicate Bijan

  6. Still Coconut Doughnut Says:

I would hope that JL knew that already

  7. Cleanhouse Says:

    Too bad White left

We’re so going IOL at pick 15. Don’t tell me there’ll be an EDGE like Latu or Verse, former 15th picks, available.

  9. Will Says:

Ok so Robinsons a genius and you all know what he’s going to do. Our next HC in the making.

  10. SteveK Says:

    Joe,

Glazers and Licht bet on the wrong horse. Liam seized his moment, and won 12 games for the Jags last year. So far, Liam looks better than Bowles. I bet he takes them further in the playoffs this season that Bowles takes the Bucs. Sad, but true.

  11. ocala Says:

Coen was smart. He got away from Bowles.

  12. Beeej Says:

Bucs were going to make Liam the highest paid offensive coordinator in the NFL, figuring he would replace Todd in a season or two, perfectly reasonable approach. I can’t see firing Todd after he just won 10 games

  13. Crickett Baker Says:

Right, Beeej.I still think Coen is a weasel and has little integrity. I am very happy they were cautious and did not just sling into our HC position.

  14. Crickett Baker Says:

    *sling him

Just to comment on the photo of Coen above.
The Joe’s come up with the best goofy photos of people. I have no idea where you dig these up.
Love your ability to find goofy photos and probably love even more your ability to utilize them effectively to fit the topic of the article.
    Good show, Joes!!!
(Though, I can’t give you too much credit for this particular photo because Coen looks goofy about 95% of the time)

    Should be the Bucs
    Head coach!

  17. El HEFE Says:

Grow up you lames F coen F canales give some support to whoever running things till there gone how do you expect better things to happen for the team

  18. Badbucs Says:

No one would turn down a HC offer to stay an OC. It could have been handled better, without the subterfuge. Bucs didn’t guarantee him a HC job in the future. Why would he work for half the pay and no job security. Some like to be butt hurt.
Timing just didn’t work out for the Bucs. It would have been incredibly awkward to fire Bowles to replace with Coen after 3 straight divisional titles. There was a whole lot of support for Todd in the FO. They just couldn’t come close to matching the Jax opportunity.
I’m happy for Coen and Jax. It’s just a shame we had to lose the talent. We can only hope lightning doesn’t strike twice with Robinson. It will be hard to replace Bowles if Zach has a great year. Still have to pray for it though.

He will be instructed to be a champion of the dive play, especially on first and goals from the one yard line. The goal for 2026 is to need 12 plays to get that yard.

  20. Obvious Says:

As I understand it, there’s no honor among thieves in the coaching ranks. They will stab each other in the back if they need to, in order to get a head. Ask morris or Koetter. That’s why JL was so easily able to turn the page after the initial emotions eased. It’s a lot like politics in that sense.

Coen made the right move. We might not have liked it or how it was reported that he handled it but it happens in this industry.

The glazers, no matter how many want to talk about Todd winning three division participation trophies, made the wrong move. They lacked the foresight and/or courage to do the right thing for their franchise.

Regardless of what they say or don’t say publicly, they surely regret it.

  21. HeavyE Says:

Canales & Coen, are Very Smart, they got away from #6, oh yeah don’t forget about M1K3…….
