Report: Bucs Are “Desperate” To Re-Sign Mike Evans

March 9th, 2026

UPDATED: 2:28 p.m. What will happen with pending free agent Mike Evans?

Bucs and NFL super insider Peter Schrager, the longtime family friend of Bucs assistant general manager Mike Greenberg, was on ESPN TV after 1 p.m. today saying the Bucs are “desperate” to re-sign Mike Evans. Evans painted the Bucs as actively negotiating with the Evans camp and not being shy about how much they want Evans to play his entire career in Tampa.

Will Team Glazer and Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht get the job done? Will they really do all they can to reel Evans in?

Get it done, guys. No excuses.

UPDATED 2:28 p.m. Moments ago on The Pat McAfee Show …
Peter Schrager says Bucs “are not going without a fight” for Mike Evans. …Adam Schefter says the Evans situation is unclear, guesses Evans is negotiating to make sure he has exactly what he wants from a potential new team down to the letter. Schefter says “I don’t know any numbers on a Mike Evans deal because I don’t think there’s any Mike Evans deal that’s done right now.”

    Just let him go already.

  5. gbobucsfan Says:

Mike is just waiting to see who shows up on Defense….3rd and 28 is unacceptable.

  6. HeavyE Says:

    Let’s Get it DONE!!!

  7. JackofAll Says:

    Free ME13

  8. ghost Says:

    not for 27m a year

  9. zzbucs Says:

My faovurite Bucs player ever…….The only reason I would do it, is if we trade Chris Godwin, if not does not make any sense

  10. Leopold Stotch Says:

    GET. IT. DONE

  11. Ben Says:

Get it done. Other players not worth the money need to be cut. Godwin and AWJ come to mind. Evans can still play and they dont have another true X and redzone threat on the roster. Godwin is similar to other players alreasy there and AWJ is making too much money for doing nothing the past two years. Paying a safety 20 milly is dumb when you have 0 pass rush.

  12. Truth be Told Says:

He shows to be greedy after all. We still desperately need him to keep this offense as potent as it can be.

  13. Football 1 Says:

Wow scary!! Think he wants to go and Bucs are pulling his coat tails. The people they have added surely has his attention!. If they pick up somebody like Hendrickson, I say he signs!! It appears some team is offering some go

  14. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Maybe they will promise Mike!! Trey in the Deal!!! behind close doors, watch? Go Bucs

  15. SteveK Says:

    Resign my boy!

  16. bakerfan Says:

I just think he wants to be shown respect, offer has to come above Chris Godwin’s deal.

  17. Football 1 Says:

    Good stuff as well.

  18. HeavyE Says:

Pay M1K3, not the QB….Lets Go Bucs!!

  19. Christina Olive Says:

Ignore the TROLLS! Yes, Evans should be a BUC for life 🙂

  20. Stubby Ryan Says:

    3rd & 28. Remember that.

  21. Nashville bug Says:

I think Mike is waiting to see what investments the team makes today. So far looking really good.

  22. Football 1 Says:

Wow scary!!. Sounds like he wants to go and the Bucs are tugging at his coat tails. Well he has to like who they added!. I say if they land a key edge rush guy like Hendrickson he is in. Otherwise it appears a really good team has its wallet open and saying let’s go

  23. Kgh4life Says:

If they resign Mike, no money will be left to sign an edge rusher.

  24. LynchMob50 Says:

Run away while you can Mike!!!

Bowles is the anchor dragging this team to the depths of the Bay.

Zero SB’s until Todd goes bye bye.

  25. Hodad Says:

    Doesn’t matter, 8-9, 9-8. Licht, and Bowles ceiling, .500.

  26. Ash Says:

Desperation is thick around here let him go and rebuild this team already that but I love you stuff have some self respect for yourselves and have a suffocating defense to compliment what can be a good offense without Mike stop digging the hole bigger and make the eventual rebuild even longer then it has to be.

  27. Doooshlarue Says:

If you find yourself using the term “Buc for life” then you are probably in love with a player and not necessarily the team.

We need to spend the money elsewhere and we have a solid receiving corps.

  28. gbobucsfan Says:

Cardinals sign Allgeir for less than we signed Gainwell…..interesting.

  29. Colonel Angus Says:

Bakerfan, I’d be good with that. We got a “defensive” minded head coach that wants to run the ball. No need in tying up a lot of cap in WR’s. I love Mike though

  30. Saskbucs Says:

People think Bucs fans are tuning out cause Bowles is back… that’s a certainty if Evans doesnt return.

I’m a broken record but I’ll be watching Mikes new squad until Todd is shown the door.

If Mike does sign elsewhere, I would love if he said something to the effect of not trusting the D or direction of the team in trying to win. He’s too classy for something like that but wouldn’t it be great if Licht and the Glazers got a strong message about their huge mistake in keeping Bowles.

  31. Todd Says:

Mike is,was, and always WILL BE a BUCCANEER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. DS Says:

    Soft rebuild

  33. Buc king Says:

Mike is a buc for life.. hes rich..hes happy..bucs are family hes respected hid family loves it here..taxes work great in fl..he won’t diminish his legacy for a facade at ring..he knows you can’t go to a supposed good team and think a rung is giving to you and ge knows winning another ring here is like winning 3 at one time.
No buccaneer has 2 rings or his level of success he will go down as the best buccaneers in history.. what’s going to be better than that..going to learn a whole new team? Changing your whole life for what a pretend chance to win or a few more mill that will get tax to death.
I see 3yr contract 28mill year maybe 25 if he shows us love.
Lots of incentives and guaranteed amount of targets will make him feel loved and appreciated.
I go to Chris rework his deal have them paid the sane next year..

  34. Gman Says:

Really shouldn’t be desperate….definitely won’t be worth over 20 million this year…let him become someone else’s burden

  35. Ash Says:

Hope some of y’all got tissues on stand by.

  36. Beeej Says:

He might have said “we’re desperate”, so it looks like they did everything they could to sign him

  37. HeavyE Says:

Go get Derek Carr, and resign M1K3!! Let’s go Bucs!!!

  38. bakerfan Says:

Desperate Joe??? Is this where it has came to for a guy that will maybe play 10 games…. DESPERATE? I think a lot of fans can have it go either way.

  39. #1bucsfan Says:

Get it done. Bucs 4 life

  40. Bucsalltheway Says:

    @buc king
I see what you did there 3 yrs 28 mil lol 3&28!!!..lol

  41. Derrick Says:

@heavye—- why in the world would we trade a pick for Carr?

  42. HeavyE Says:

Why wouldn’t we, we need a QB??

  43. John Mason Says:

If Mike does leave…..we all know why….He does not think Bowles is good enough to get the Buc’s to a Super Bowl. We saw how pissed he was at the loss to ATL. and what a joke the Buc defense has been the last 3 years.

    …………

I am good with that, BUT must sign Hendrickson for it to be all right in my book.

  45. Colin in Canada Says:

It’s not your money people. The bucs can make it work. They can sign an edge and Mike

  46. Ash Says:

Dunno if it’s agent speak but reports coming out teams are offering 27mil plus cya Mike enjoyed the memories good luck on your next team bro.

  47. gbobucsfan Says:

    $27mil for Mike is steeeeeep !!!! I love you but d@mn that’s a chunk.

  48. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Is this mucking up deals we could be making? If this stalling causes Bucs to miss out on top end FAs and Mike walks it shows the level of mismanagement. No Tyler Algiers, Eteinne goes to saints, Carolina signs Philips. We need more Jason!

  49. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Obviously makes Bakers’ job easier, and I’d bet money having Mike back would also make the transition easier for Z-Rob

  50. Beeej Says:

For you people saying he’s looking for another Super Bowl, say he was looking for one exactly one year ago. Among his choices. Probably would have been Detroit or Kansas City, neither of whom even made the playoffs. And who had Seattle and New England on their card for the Super Bowl participants?

  51. Ash Says:

27 mil at his age who cares about a Superbowl

  52. adam from ny Says:

lock in big mike………..3 years……70 millibusters

  53. Lakeland Says:

I guarantee you the Bucs will not sign a stand out pass Rusher

This year will be no different from past years

I stake my reputation on this

  54. Doooshlarue Says:

    ^^^^^^^
    Reputation?
    😀

  55. Badbucs Says:

27 mil is preposterous. My wife thinks there’s no bottom to the bank account too. All of you Oprah’s need a reality check. Jason has already drained the account overpaying for extensions on all his draft picks. Overpaying Mike just deepens the hole.

  56. Derrick Says:

So wha, we can’t sign everyone, same people complaining about this would be the same people complaining if Evans leaves

  57. Big_Buc$ Says:

Need to let Mike walk. I’m good with Emeka Jalen Taz, and Chris. Just sign a vet Just in case Chris is injured. I’d expect Tampa to move on from his contract after this season regardless who is GM and HC in 2027.

  58. Lakeland Says:

I’m that guy that guaranteed you that Bowles will be back

And the last time l checked

    HE’S BACK

That’s the reputation I’m talking about

  59. Lakeland Says:

I’m also the guy that predicted a lousy 2025 season

When you Gullible fans were predicting a Super Bowk run 😭😭😭

  60. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Maybe Jason is focused on signing Jimmy G, backup QB. I have low expectations of signing an Edge but hopefully it will be one of the younger guys with upside not older dudes on the backside of 30z

    ……….

I agree…. Mike knows the offers, Mike for some reason wants to feel wanted (this says more about his self evaluation, that skills are diminshing) and Mike possibly is holding up other deals that could of been made.

I hope 3pm is the deadline, not the starting point of negotiations with the Bucs.

  62. BFFL!79 Says:

I agree wholeheartedly – get it done. No excuses is right. My interest in football will plummet next to nothing if they don’t re-sign him. The offense would suffer, & even if they have the #1 defense next year, they will not be contenders without Mike. I can’t see him playing for another team. Buc for life!

  63. Whatevs Says:

    Let Mike go.

Be careful he doesn’t pull a hammy when he his running to sign the overvalued contract

  64. Bucshot Says:

Picking up Alex Anzalone will help sign Big Mike…

  65. Big_Buc$ Says:

LA Rams are the favorite to sign Mike Evans.

  66. adam from ny Says:

thor is now in the building

  67. bakerfan Says:

Here we go again…. media falling in love with what Atlanta is doing, if they sign Tau it will be Atlanta Super Bowl talk again until it isn’t possible for them to make it.

  68. Wvbuc Says:

    Evans to 49ers

  69. LynchMob Says:

ESPN sources: former Buccaneers six-time Pro-Bowl WR Mike Evans is expected to sign a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

  70. ocala Says:

    Good luck in SF Mike.

  71. Tushar Garg Says:

Evans signing a three year with the 49ers. End of an era in Tampa.

  72. Doooshlarue Says:

    Lakeland/Nostradamus

    We’re all right sometimes.

  73. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

F’ the Glazers. Good for you Mike!

  74. BPBucsfan Says:

They’re a heck of a lot closer to a Super Bowl than the Bucs. Plus they have a lot better coach.

    ________

Probably on Goodell’s orders because it’s the ultimate chocolate city.

  76. Badbucs Says:

“Desperate ” – is that the mindset of the decision makers for this franchise? No wonder we max out our cap with sub-standard player contracts and keep Todd for a HC. Panic and desperation instead of planning and logic. Sure, sign him for 27 mil. Makes as much sense as AWJ, Zyon and Reddick. Where are the adults?

  77. Whatevs Says:

Go get paid Mike. On a staff with a real HC.

SF will be a nightmare this season

  78. Kayla Says:

Now he’s part of the NFC enemy.

  79. lambchop Says:

49ers are great at choking. Not going to make a difference.

  80. Whatevs Says:

Man Jason is a mastermind building this team.

Can’t wait to win the NFL draft 13 years in a row. Gotta get “that” guys on the roster

  81. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

And Mike Evans is a 49 called it last week

  82. Whatevs Says:

Mike, one word of advice…. Stay away from the power lines

  83. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

And Mike Evans is a 49 called it last week can’t post Joe wants the scoop

  84. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Good luck Mike! Hope it works out

  85. BigBoiBuc Says:

To the 49ers. Heard it here first.

  86. bakerfan Says:

Good Luck with those Hammy’s up in San Fran.

As Mark Twain was believe to say…. “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”

49ers is one team I can not stand. Makes it easier to say good riddance.

  87. LessisMore Says:

Sad day for this fan to see Mike go.
San Francisco is a great opportunity for him to win!

  88. bakerfan Says:

Other media sites are reporting this as a done deal. Dean is gone also. Between the 2 you have a whole season of missed games. I don”t see either changing to be healthy a full season, both may be able to combine for 10 games each. Now go younger, get Rashid Shaheed or George Pickens. Nothing else Deebo Samuels on the cheap though.

  89. Toddler Bowles Says:

Mike left my heart…..in San Francisco…..

  90. Aqualung Says:

Until Tood Bowels is properly terminated in shame, there is no reason to cheer for this goat rodeo anymore.
