Jason Licht Offers Post-Surgery Update On Bucky Irving
February 25th, 2026Two weeks ago, Joe reported Bucky Irving had offseason shoulder surgery. Interestingly, some media didn’t find that newsworthy and ignored the report.
However, it really happened.
Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht was asked about Irving’s recovery during a visit to the PFT Live/NBC Sports set yesterday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Licht told host Mike Florio that Irving still has at least a few months to be declared 100 percent ready for the 2026 sason.
“Oh, he’ll definitely be ready for trainining camp; he’ll probably be ready at the tail end of OTAs to do some limited stuff. But all is good there,” Licht said.
Joe is glad Irving is on the right track. Earlier Tuesday, Joe asked Licht about Irving and Licht said he’s at One Buc Palace regularly (presumbably managing his rehab there) and is in good spirits all the time.

Good to hear that #7 is at the facility rehabbing and in good spirits. It sounds like Bucky has gotten adjusted to the mental side of being injured. Let’s go 7!!

Next year keep his touches under 20 a game or it will be a repeat of last year.

Finding a replacement for Rachad White is a top priority. Bucky isn’t built to handle White’s role. They’re out there. Licht and Roberson know what they are doing. Edge rusher remains the top priority. Go find him.

Joe, I couldn’t hear the questions well at the press conferences. But there was a question or two about supporting players’ mental health. Can you speak about this?

Jeremiyah Love. Unlikely he will be around at 15 but if he is, have to take him.

Head case to go along with Tired Legs Egbuka. Fortunately the prowess of the head coach will stimulate improvement in all players, as he has been doing.

Was it labrum surgery? Those never heal perfectly. Let’s hope it’s not that big a deal.

I keep getting killed for this take but I am goingo keep screaming it. Bucky is not and will never be a workhorse RB1. Hes an outstanding RB but it will be a mistake to give him the ball 20 plus touches game. Hell never finish a season. I said this before last season and got laughed at. He didn’t make it just a few weeks. This will repeat if they dont split the touches with other backs.
