Jay Glazer: Todd Bowles Retention Situation “Made No Sense To Me”
February 5th, 2026
So Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is on the list of NFL super insiders with contacts spanning from players to owners to executives that like to suck up to him.
Glazer gets answers before they become public knowledge — and he certainly gets answers after the fact.
So it intrigued Joe to hear Glazer confused while on Radio Row yesterday talking to WDAE radio. He was asked about the great turnover in the NFL head coaching ranks last month and about the retention of Todd Bowles in Tampa.
The latter flummoxed Glazer.
“It made no sense to me — to keep him but make him fire everybody on the staff,” Glazer said of the Bucs and Bowles. “That made no sense. Like, that has zero sense. Right? Yeah, I just didn’t get that one.”
Glazer was asked if money was a factor in Team Glazer (no relation) granting Bowles a fifth Bucs season.
No, Glazer replied firmly. “They just love him. … … They love him. They love him. They absolutely love him.”
Joe is always intrigued by big Team Glazer decisions, such as calls on the head coach. The Bucs owners always have a united front, but they are six siblings. There’s no way they could always agree. What siblings do?

It did not to 90% of Bucs fans either. Bucs have arguably the worst head coach in the NFL. Wasted year(s).

They love him, absolutely love him. Glad somebody does. Hope they love their box office receipts.
February 5th, 2026 at 4:01 pm
There is absolutely another reason, and we wish we could see it. BTW, it’s not too late. Fire Bowles
February 5th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
Yea. Firing the staff. It was like “It was their fault!!!”
February 5th, 2026 at 4:14 pm
It made no sense to any of us fans either. Just the Glazers I guess they just want to waste a year and get some draft picks.
February 5th, 2026 at 4:16 pm
I don’t hope for Bucs to lose, but after reading this I hope the stadium is empty.
February 5th, 2026 at 4:19 pm
Translation: We couldn’t get anybody we liked better…
February 5th, 2026 at 4:23 pm
‘That made no sense. Like, that has zero sense. Right? ‘
You RIGHT!… NO common sense anywhere in that decision…
When people do stupid things it often baffles the wise…
IBS was WAY MORE deserving to be fired compared to several that were!

The problem I see with J Glazer here is, he doesn’t own a billion dollar franchise and he may be the first to get answers about questions on most of the NFL franchises but he can’t answer the Bucs and Bowles question. The Glazers have been pretty successful at their business with 2 Super Bowls in Tampa and a championship with their( I think it a soccer team) there also

Bucs fans are soooooooo excited to see another year with Bowles. Almost as excited as we were in the offseason to see a 5th Winston year lol
February 5th, 2026 at 4:49 pm
I, like a couple other commentators, think this is all about taking a big swing at Mike Tomlin next year. Wouldnt surprise me if Bowles is in on the decision and will step down and retire after the 2026 season.
If thats the case, then it would make sense that the Glazers wouldn’t want to fire Bowles, hire another head coach and staff to 4 year deals, only to fire them all because the apple of their eye is ready to start coaching again. If we start seeing more ex-Steelers coaches join Bowles staff, then you know the jig is up.
February 5th, 2026 at 4:53 pm
The wrong Glazer is calling the shots. Jay Glazer for owner!!
February 5th, 2026 at 4:57 pm
They lived Dungy too but still fired him
February 5th, 2026 at 4:59 pm
@gotbbucs
Nice theory except for one thing.
The announcement that Bowles was staying came more than a week before Tomlin resigned, and even longer before we knew Tomlin planned to sit out a year(at least).

I’m not even sure what your point is “Popmike.” The Seahawks have been to 4, FOUR Superbowls since 2005, and their executive team operates in a completely different fashion and more transparently than the Glazers. It’s not just “winning” the Super Bowl, it’s also being consistently good year in and year out, double digit wins. In the past 13 years, they’ve won atleast 10 in ten of of those seasons. Just using them as an example – because when you wax poetic of the Glazers like they could do no wrong, and that they’re the best of the best of something, then I have some unfortunate news for you. I’m also not in to basing very important decisions just because you think he’s a swell guy

“No, Glazer replied firmly. “They just love him. … … They love him. They love him. They absolutely love him.””
Welp, I’ll say this like Bowles & Licht or not, the Glazers likely extended both because they kept us somewhat competitive when our cap situation was against us and we lost a ton of older talent for various reasons.
Was it the right call? Time’ll tell, but again I can remember being a fan of this team in ‘14 WISHING we could be as “good” as we were in 2010. In my opinion, in terms of being a fan thinking for ownership, is underlooked and likely the reason the Glazers kept their guys.
Again, I’m not crying over Bowles/Licht being here, this is the time of year most franchise are setting themselves to hit their ‘26 offseason marks. Home in on their outlook, and start taking a crap ton of calculated risks. I’m more concerned with the draft pecking order as far as talent, then I am about front office stuff.
Leave that to the Execs and CPAs, cause that’s what ownership is doing while they schmooze to yacht rock and all types of opulence.

This is what we needed. We haven’t heard the fans whine enough that Bowles was retained.
February 5th, 2026 at 5:39 pm
I don’t believe for a second this was about anything other than money. The Glazers are just lying through their teeth.
They’re billionaires but they don’t just have a Scrooge style vault of gold coins to bathe in. They likely have set budgets for individual expenses like coaching staffs. After firing the Man U coach, they likely determined that paying Bowles and a new HC would exceed that coaching budget and decided to keep him.

Todd Bowles Retention Situation “Made No Sense To Me”. No sh!t.
February 5th, 2026 at 5:46 pm
Jay…
It makes zero sense to the rest of us, too.
We’re as flummoxed as you are, lol.
February 5th, 2026 at 5:49 pm
Just keep adding gas to the fire
February 5th, 2026 at 5:49 pm
The Glazers absolutely loved loved loved Jameis too. Not the best judgement.
February 5th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
Oh goody! Another opportunity for a hundred ‘Bowles sucks and should have been fired’ posts
February 5th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
They love him? Fine. Make him an ambassador. Special Envoy.
But love has nothing to do with winning.

Suh!
February 5th, 2026 at 6:10 pm
If thats the case, then they love losing.

Bowles is far and away the worst head coach in the NFL….retaining him is HUGE mistake I realize that owners don’t make decisions based on fan input. However, when over 90% of loyal fans have no hesitation to express their displeasure it becomes a matter of common sense. His record is that of a below average coach and the decision to retain him pisses off over 90% of the fans it’s impossible to understand why this decision was made. I feel that Arians had a large influence in this which is absurd. Bowles never earned this job, he was appointed to satisfy Arians….a BS reason to gift the job to an incompetent coach. His record in prime time games is abysmal and embarrassing….a coach must prepare his team to play best when best is needed . I’m a 30 year season ticket owner but no more. I love the Bucs but despise this decision!!!

Jay Glazer … “It made no sense to me — to keep him but make him fire everybody on the staff.”
Jay Glazer either has a bunch of inside information or he’s making one huge assumption. Also looks to me like Jay is being rather melodramatic; Bowles didn’t fire ‘everybody on the staff. He did replace 2 coordinators, neither of whom set the world on fire (oops, take that back; actually they did, in an Emperor Nero sort of way). He also let go 2 defensive assistant coaches & another retired (probably long overdue).
I tend to think that the Glazers are really concerned about creating another decade (2009-2018) of coaching turmoil. After they let Chucky following the 2008 season, they went through FOUR head coaches (and coaching staffs) and got miserable results in return. Whether you like Arians & Bowles or not, in the 7 years since they arrived, the Bucs have won the NFS South 4 times, been to the playoffs 5 times, and won a Super Bowl. Our record during those 7 years is 66-51, and yes, that’s with Bowles as our DC for all 7 years and HC for 4.
Also convinced though that this is Todd’s last chance; produce or it’s the highway. MIGHT be the same for Jason Licht. Glazers may very well have told them both … ‘You dug this hole together. Now figure out how to get out of it together. You’ve got 1 year to make that happen.’
February 5th, 2026 at 6:39 pm
Ill be surprised at how much support Todd Bowles receives next season. Its make or break for him.Every game he loses at home, he will be booed off the field. Bowles fired quite a few coaches. Then arguably hired an OC who is not better than his last. And the biggest kicker of all, he failed to hire a DC to help him. Most of us fans are gonna sit back and watch. The Bucs owners, The Glazers really may have screwed this one up.
February 5th, 2026 at 6:41 pm
Too bad Jay Glazer isn’t one of the IMPORTANT Glazers
His opinion carry as much weight as a grain of salt
😭😭😂😂😝😝
February 5th, 2026 at 6:43 pm
Who gives a rats a$$ what he did, we all saw what happened he lost the team you don’t get that back are they gonna fire all the players too? Yeah so great yay.
February 5th, 2026 at 6:43 pm
Didn’t Herr Goodell just say that the NFL didn’t have enough Blakk HCs?
🤔
February 5th, 2026 at 6:52 pm
The ONLY opinion that’s relevant is the opinion of the owners
And they have made their decision weeks ago
All of these Delusional opinions of others, makes ZERO sense
Because they have no meaning
