Yes, It Can Be Done, Bucs Fans

February 9th, 2026

It can happen again.

Don’t worry, Bucs fans. Just because the Bucs missed the playoffs this year doesn’t mean 2026 will be a throwaway season.

Last night marked the 60th Super Bowl. Both teams missed the playoffs the previous season. That is not unusual in Super Bowl history.

In Super Bowl annals, 14 of the 60 Super Bowl winners were not good enough to make the playoffs the previous season. That’s 23 percent.

So basically, the Bucs, based on Super Bowl history, sort of have a one-in-four shot to win their third Super Bowl a year from now.

(Yes, Joe knows that tee’ed fans up for a Todd Bowles screed.)

In fact, the last time the Bucs won a Super Bowl (2020), the Bucs were not a playoff team the year prior (2019).

Cross your fingers, Bucs fans.

I’ll be cautiously optimistic by the time the season starts…but no rush. I need to decompress still.

  2. Salvador Says:

Not with that head coach #!!

  3. catcard202 Says:

This FO can make moves to fix all the glaring holes and backfill quality depth pieces…There is money to shuffle around to do that.

They just have to put the right plan in place / the right pieces to the puzzle together / target the right people in FA & not strike out in the draft to accomplish that.

It is 100% possible…It’s not like this is the Raiders, Titans, Cardinals or Jets roster… Where it would take 2-3 cycles to fix everything…The Bucs have a good amount of talent on the roster at a host of key positions.

  4. Aqualung Says:

Slam dunk. All we need is Todd.

    Todd is all we need.

  5. Bucschamp Says:

Seahawks could’ve 2 Superbowls if they trusted their running backs

  6. Gipper Says:

Note that Seattle won the SB with what Munch would derisively call a “journeyman” QB. That’s because what wins Super Bowls more often than not is an elite DEFENSE. Baker and the Bucs hung 38 on that elite defense for a Bucs victory over Seattle earlier in the season before Baker started to “fake” injuries. Hope that Todd Bowles and Licht were paying attention. Tampa has a long way to go to get a competitive defense. It is going to take an almost 100% turnover of current defensive players. Need some honesty about overpaid and overrated players like Zyon McCollum and AWjr.

  7. Beeej Says:

Darnold led the league in picks, NO way they go to the Show with THAT guy

  8. BucU Says:

We have the absolute worst HC in the league. And after seeing the Glazers cowardness we now have one of the worst owners in the league. Bad combo.
2026 will be a disaster. Complete dumpster fire.

  9. ATLBuc Says:

We need to bring in Pitts and Cousins as a back up so we can let Baker sit out and heal when he gets hurt

  10. NLK@boston Says:

it can be done – but not with todd the fraud.

  11. Warrenfb12 Says:

Joe, you recall Todd Bowles is still the head coach of this team?

  12. Bee Says:

With the Bucs HC and QB the best they can do is a first round loss

  13. HC Grover Says:

Right on schedule. The JBF Super Bowl Hype starts the next morning. Oh No not again. As predicted. Bucs on a Super Bowlzo Express Hype Train again…. Nope. The Bucs are heading for last place in NFC South.

  14. Todd Says:

Darnold is the only QB in NFL history to have back to back 14 win seasons.

  15. LFGBucs Says:

I think it’s more realistic to have a coaching change by this time next year than a Super Bowl. Although we have seen the Glazers willingness to keep the worst coach in the league, so I guess anything is possible.

  16. doolnutts Says:

The difference is that Seattle and even the Patriots both have elite defense. Bowles units have moments like our own Super Bowl but the problem is they are not consistent. More often than not we have major breakdowns and give up huge plays. Not sure what will change next year I cant really see this unit dominating. Maybe if they fix EDGE well have a shot but even still

  17. Outrigger Says:

Unfortunately Todd Bowles ceiling is a 2nd round playoff loss. Don’t think he’s a good enough coach to take us any further than that. We’re going to find out very soon if JL is serious about rebuilding this defense as free agency starts soon. If he starts signing reclamation projects to 1 year deals again then you’ll have your answer.

  18. Mark Says:

    Of course it is possible…

Seattle was able to win with Darnold because they had a dominant defense and elite special teams play. Other teams have used this formula to win…the Bucs in 02, the Ravens in 00, the Giants in 90, the Bears in 85. No need for HoF-level QB play…but you have to be great everywhere else. “Good” is insufficient…

Hard to see what was on the field last year evolving to this level, even with a brilliant offseason. The team’s mindset seems wired toward winning the division, not dominating the league…

  19. Pewter Power Says:

Todd Bowles Is a dinosaur. The only thing he has proven is that he’s stubborn and not open to change or new ideas. He’s mediocre and his ceiling is 10 wins

  20. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I’m not sure what I’m missing but it seems like this is a duplicate story with a different title.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

I can’t stop laughing Joe. Yes, it can be done. But I will bet you my whole next year’s salary, it won’t be done under or with Todd Bowles. Glazers really stunk this one up.

  22. Day 1-76 Says:

Neither of those teams had Todd Bowles.

  23. JackBall Says:

Why do Glazers not want to win? Licht is the problem.

  24. JackBall Says:

You are delusional if you think the Bucs can win with Bowles as the head coach of the team and also the defense.

  25. BillyBucco Says:

Trade for Swartz and make him the DC.
Let him hire some assistants and then we might have something.
We know we are like 4-6 players away.
Can they do that in an off season? Yes.
Will they, probably not with Bowles as coach.
There is still time to hope.

  26. #1bucsfan Says:

Jackball you deff got some delusional takes. Licht built the team Brady wanted to come to. Started before he got Bucco Bruce. He’s deff not the problem and 2nd we won that SB off our defense destroying the number one offense that year. Bowles lead that defense. Chiefs we’re held to 9 pts as you prob forgot or weren’t a fan.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

    5-12 next season.

  28. Steve V. Says:

Shwarts, coaching for Bowles! The bics will win the SB before that happens
