Mike Evans Described As Pushing To Adjust Doctor Visits

January 19th, 2026

The legend of the greatest receiver in Buccaneers history continues to grow.

Bucs fans watched in horror as Evans was concussed with a broken collarbone lying on the Ford Field turf in Detroit. It was a Week 7 nightmare for what was a 5-1 football team pushing for a comeback against the Lions on Monday Night Football on Oct. 20.

Evans missed six games. And it certainly could have been more.

Bucs wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon talked about Evans on the Buccaneers Radio Network after this season and referenced Evans’ comeback from the injury, which required surgery.

It seems Evans was possessed with getting on the field and getting the Bucs over the hump. McClendon described Evans as pressing folks at One Buc Palace to expedite doctors clearing him to play earlier than expected.

“Nothing surprised you when it comes to [Evans] just because he’s wired the right way and he’s the person he is and he worked his tail off to get back. He really, really did, man,” McClendon said. “I mean, every step of the way he was like, ‘Hey, you know, I’m coming back here, here, here’ and then actually came back a little bit ahead of schedule. And he was kind of pushing them to get the doctor visits and everything else moved up so he can go ahead and then get cleared early. I mean, he was really, really motivated to come out there and help us try to make this playoff run.”

Joe heard McClendon and thought, ‘Does that sound a player who wants to retire?

Evans came back at home against the Falcons on Thursday Night Football — and was dominant with 6 catches for 132 yards. So not only did Evans ramp up the timeline of his return, he was was 100 percent justified and in tune with his body.

Resigning Evans has to be priority number one on offense

  2. DMoney Says:

He’s the star and this is his team. Baker gonna have to do a little bit more before he is ready to turn it over.

  3. heyjude Says:

Mike is our heart and soul of the team. He came back looking stronger than ever too. He is a keeper!

  4. Deeboooo Says:

I think ME is going to have just as much say as Baker on next OC, if not more. That’s going to be the deciding factor if he returns or moves onto a contender.

I also think ME will be a big reason on if Mike McDaniel comes to tampa

  5. Vanessa Anne Says:

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

    It’s who Mike is.

We need to do everything we can to make sure he retires as a Buc.

  6. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    First priority, re-sign Mike.

  7. Bosch Says:

Can’t help but to wondering if 3rd & 28 lingers as a bad taste in his mouth. Bucs might stand a better chance of keeping him I the launch Bowels.

  8. HC Grover Says:

He is The Tough part of when the tough gets going.

  9. Told You Says:

If players cared as much as Baker, ME, and LVD, we’d made the playoffs.

  10. PSL Bob Says:

Unbelievable player and unbelievable character. It will be a sad day when Mike hangs up his cleats!

  11. Aqualung Says:

Mike is too good for Belowzero. Tood could lose with the 99 Rams offense and 1985 Bears defense.

    Loser.

  12. gbobucsfan Says:

3rd and 28!!! He was soo angry, just like all of us fans!

  13. heyjude Says:

Right on Vanessa Anne! It’s no surprise at all.

  14. Bonan Says:

I hope he stays but I wouldn’t blame him for leaving to go to an actual contender.

  15. Tbbucsfan Says:

Evans isn’t done. He’s got at least 1 more year. He’s also said he won’t play anywhere else than in Tampa.

  16. catcard202 Says:

The difference between not wanting to retire vs. should retire are 2 different things.

I’m in my 50’s and my mind still tells me I can do things that I did in my 20’s…But that doesn’t mean my body responds like it did in my 20’s.

Mike has a ton of miles on his body & it shows…He is not the same WR he was 2023…He is not the guy he was in 2024 where he was showing wear & tear, losing a step…2025 was not an albatross – he fell of the cliff (legs & hands). It was father time showing that Mike was clearly more than half way down the age-performance sliding scale hill.

IMO, it does not make sense to bring him back on a new deal & push more dead money down the line while taking a roster spot away from a WR that has upside left in the tank.

  17. BPBucsfan Says:

If Mike wants to go to contender, you can’t blame him at all. The only thing the Bucs will be contending for is last place with Bowles as coach and in charge of the pillow soft defense. Seen McVay has 10 post season wins before age 40, double anyone else. And ownership settles for this. As long as the Glazer’s are pinching pennies at head coach, we will go no further. Look at Chargers, years of mediocrity, finally open their wallets for Jim Harbaugh, and now they make the playoffs in the AFC West. Bills can Sean McDermott after years of getting into playoffs, 12 wins this year. He’s been a good coach, but Allen can’t seem to get it done.

  18. Todd Says:

ME13 is my favorite Buc and unless the team offers him some insulting offer , then it is unlikely he would leave , but imagine ME in KC or Buffalo with Mahomes or Allen.

  19. Buc king Says:

Only reason Evans does come back is if he don’t believe in this team

  20. dbbuc711 Says:

After Mikes angry “3rd and 28”, I’m pretty sure he’ll play elsewhere next season.

  21. dan the bucs fan Says:

I love Mike Evans I consider it a honor to have had season tickets and watch him play over the course of his career! Hall of Famer incredible person and once in lifetime franchise wr! All that being said we all know how this next season is going end. Sadly Bowles Baker and Evans will all probably finish their Bucs careers in losing fashion next year. This roster is not a playoff roster yes we have some talent but the glaring holes are to many to fill without a complete rebuild.

Maybe we can go 7-9-1 or something like that but its time as. franchise to face the facts we have the worst defense in NFL. One draft a decent fee agent etc isn’t going help the defense enough especially staying in a scheme the players cant understand and cant execute.

Sad to watch Evans go out like this.

  22. Outrigger Says:

Many of you don’t know this but the Glazers have destroyed Man U which was considered the best franchise in all of sports. The team has been losing since they bought them and the Glazers have sucked all the teams profits and put it in their own pockets rather than reinvest in improving the team. Their fans hate the Glazers and are constantly protesting against them. As for the Bills, word is they are interested in hiring their former OC Drable who the Giants fired earlier this year. We need to make a run for Joe Brady as our OC.

  23. unbelievable Says:

    STUD.

  24. Allen Lofton Says:

Evans is a class act on and off the field and so deserving of the Hall of Fame not only in Football but the game of life. He’s set the bar far and high with true humility for all to follow.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

Firsr priority..Spend some money and get a top notch Pass Rusher. Our Defense was pathetic.

  26. adam from ny Says:

    you know what i think…

i think mike really wants to win a superbowl in tampa that doesn’t have tommy b’s name attached to it at all…

and i totally understand and get that
    (just one mans humble opinion)

And if Baker was even remotely accurate that night, Evans has over 200 yards and 2 TDs in a huge prime-time win.

  28. DungyDance Says:

Impressive. And the polar opposite of Josh Freeman’s situation after he left. Josh: “I can’t play, I have a concussion.” Doc: “Um, no you don’t.” Josh: “Yes I do, just uhhhh, look closer.”

    ——–

And when the Glazers bought the Bucs in 1995, they were the most losing team in all of sports history – and they turned it around, winning multiple Super Bowl’s.

Can you boring retards get some new material beyond ‘the Glazers are cheap’. If any of you idiots were actual Bucs fans, you’d remember Culverhouse and what cheap was – and the Glazers are not cheap.

  30. RondeBarberTime Says:

And how did all his hard work and dedication get paid back???

    3rd and 28

ME deserves better and I hope he finds a better spot to try and go out on top.

With Bowles at the helm you’re guaranteed nothing but misery.
