Buccaneers Will Not Host A Day-After-Game Press Conference For Todd Bowles

January 4th, 2026

After every NFL game, the head coaches involved have a news conference the following day — unless they’re unemployed.

Sometimes the session is via Zoom to make life easier for those involved. The day-after news conference is part of standard NFL protocol.

It won’t happen today in Tampa.

Last last night, the Buccaneers alerted media that the team will not host a “media availability” today. This afternoon, per the announcement, the Bucs will pick a time for Monday.

Here’s what was posted on the team’s communications Twitter account verbatim: “MEDIA ALERT: The Buccaneers will not host a media availability on Sunday. The schedule for an availability on Monday, January 5, will be announced on Sunday afternoon.”

One could speculate there’s no news conference today because the Bucs want to play wait-and-see regarding their playoff status. If the Saints win their 1 o’clock game today against the Falcons, then the Bucs will be in the playoffs. If the Falcons win, then the Bucs are eliminated.

But that fails to explain not hosting a news conference at, say, 5:30 p.m. today.

One also could speculate the Bucs are not yet sure they will have a head coach to host a news conference after that Saints-Falcons game.

Again, an early-a.m., next-day news conference via Zoom is not unusulal for the Bucs. Bowles hosted one at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 12 following the Bucs-Falcons game on Thursday Night Football.

Trust Joe, that executive decision was not made to accomodate media or to keep the news conference as interesting and informative as possible for fans.

  1. TampaBayBucFan Says:

It’s the Glazer’s team and they can do as they wish…..but like any business, they will pay consequences for a wrong decision…..and it would be wrong to retain Todd Bowles in the face of overwhelming fan opposition.

  2. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

The inevitable will not be denied…
    Delayed but not denied….

  3. Told You Says:

    Bye, bye, Bowles

  4. GaBucinRH Says:

Nice man… but do the right thing

  5. heyjude Says:

Getting an eerie vibe. “Sunday afternoon” seems to have some type of clue. Will it be announced after the Saints/Falcons game? That may be a big clue too.

  6. Bucsfan2023 Says:

3rd and 28. Todd must pay for that. At a minimum a new DC.

  7. ChiBuc Says:

Wow, the 1st shot was fired across the bow.

  8. Nick Houllis Says:

first of all, this isn’t a product OR a service. its an event. it will happen even if someone “tunes it out” and when Bucs start winning again, those that jumped ship, even the ones who want to call themselves fans, will jump back on again. the die hards like myself will tune in like I have for the last 46 years.

If anyone wants to know, when the Bucs need help to get it? they don’t get in. HELP has NEVER arrived. It didn’t in 1998 when Bucs pulverized Cincinnati but Giants didn’t help us. Didn’t help in 2010 when Chicago/Green Bay didn’t go as planned, didn’t help in 2016. So either that will continue, or a regression to the mean average happens and help arrives in the form of a Saintly event 🙂 Go Bucs (either, go to the playoffs, or go up in the draft)!

  9. Mhystc Says:

    So you’re telling me there’s a chance.

  10. ChiBuc Says:

Saints win, coach press conference. Atl wins, Glazers take the podium (hopefully, not Licht)

  11. Herbiebuc Says:

Please don’t make this mistake again TEAM GLAZERS! Coach Bowles deserves another season! We wouldn’t be having this discussion if players wouldve jumped on a live ball Thurs night game! That’s not coach Bowles fault ! We built a strong locker room it would be DUMB to break it up! Obviously this team still respects coach Bowles they are still playing with their Heart in it!

  12. ChiBuc Says:

Personally, I hope it’s Bowles at the podium. Let th3 kan go down swing with some dignity. But unless he makes the NFC championship game, his coaching has expired beyond its freshness date

  13. Cleanhouse Says:

He may have been retained, had it not been for the bitter reminder he left just before halftime as he let the clock run with timeouts in his pocket.

  14. ChiBuc Says:

    Kan=man*

  15. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    2025 WAS
    Bowels extra look!

  16. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Hopefully Todd will announce his retirement after Falcons win today.

  17. Stpetematt Says:

I don’t want to see Bowles gone. I think the defense picks up quite a bit after the coming defensive draft. Plus they played well yesterday outside of the 1 deep pass where the safety did not get over there to cover. I think the main issues were coming from the locker room, so as soon as those players are gone we get even better (addition by subtraction). I don’t know of any coach other than McVay himself I would really want if we were to lose Bowles.

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Hopefully, the Falcons will win and Bowles will be fired either this evening or Mon morning.

  19. Aqualung Says:

Oh please oh please oh please oh please…………….

  20. LVMYBUCS Says:

‘Rigged’ outcry erupts as NFL fans slam ‘worst officiated game ever’

Bucs needed all the help they could get yesterday is this what we really want for our future. Please hire a competent coaching staff Glazers

  21. Tye Says:

Kurt Cousins must thoroughly enjoy knowing his career and resume is filled with ways he screwed over the Bucs… Today WILL be another month in hiss belt and highlight on his resume!!!

  22. ChiBuc Says:

We built a strong locker room it would be DUMB to break it up!

@Herbi, I’m curious to hear your logic for your above quote when yo have a team that has had 8 weeks to seal its destiny and continued to come out flat and unmotivated. They are paid m8llions to play a game and this how they show respect for the game and their craft. Sorry, but that is not strong imo. And before we build strength 8n muscle (players) we gotta be stron in our heads (coach/GM). So the failure started with the head

  23. Ballwasher61 Says:

Let’s not confuse what a fan is, die hard or otherwise. I’ve watched this team since it’s inception. Went to many games before Dungy came and we started winning, invested money for season tickets when the Glazers became owners and have always been a Bucs fan and always will be. If I see stupid sheet going on with this team and it’s not fixed I get pissed like everyone else. It’s also MY CHOICE to not watch games when I believe it’s better that I don’t. I wasn’t going to watch yesterdays game but I did and as always rooted for the Bucs. Hoping they get into the playoffs but firmly believe they didn’t play well enough to warrant them being there. I see the passion on this site and applaude it. I also see a lot comments that are questionable at best and slam others that aren’t warranted either, but that’s MY thoughts, not others and I let people be who they wanna be. See trolls too but they are what they are. Point is is that being a Bucs fan isn’t always easy. There can always be something to complain about but I as well as everyone else has seen this sheet show at it’s worst this year. I wanted a team to play like they had a reason to play, and that’s for the Championship plain and simple, not the crap they put us through this year. If they don’t make it then that’s that. A lot of suspect things have taken place this year from Licht not putting a good QB behind Baker in case, DUH, he got hurt, FA aquisitions, etc. Everyone should be under the microscope right now.

  24. Bee Says:

If Bowles comes back next season, this season’s record is next season’s ceiling. The Bucs are currently regressing and Bowles has no answers. No new ideas, no energy, no gameplan. Nothing.

If Bowles come back, the Bucs are tanking for a top 10 pick next season.

  25. Ballwasher61 Says:

All I can think about the Falcons/Saints game today is the theme song from Gilligan’s Island, “a three hour cruise, a three hour snooze”

  26. Will I am Says:

You always grasping at the smallest thing lmao, its Sunday. Bowels ain’t going no where lol

  27. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Playing wait and see. As of 10 AM Bucs aren’t mathematicaly eliminated from winning the Superbowl. Football season isn’t over yet. The comeback story exists at least a few more hours. I promised Kenton that I would work on my positive attitude. Otton showed up! Go Bucs!

  28. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Bowels failed in New York. Bowels failed here. He is the definition of mediocrity. He remains a lousy in game coach, and often puts a team out there that is flat, unprepared and unmotivated. He needs to be fired. We need a bright, young OC to take over. Bowels will never lead this team, or any other team, to the promised land.

  29. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Todd knows he’s on the plank and the sharks are circling. While I’m hoping the Saints and Falcons pulverize each other on the way to a 0-0 tie (Bucs sneak in even though they have no business being in the playoffs this year with the way they folded after their bye week), I think the Saints hate us enough to let the Falcons win just out of spite (and the Falcons with Rah as HC would love nothing more than to stick it to the Glazers for (justly!) firing Morris many years ago). The Panthers winning the division are likely the lesser of two evils in the eyes of both the Saints and Falcons.

  30. heyjude Says:

Stpetematt – Agreed. If Bowles goes, who do we get? Another coach that had problems somewhere else and couldn’t get over the hump… No thank you. It would have to be a top-notch coach.

  31. Bucs4Ever Says:

Herbie: They need to fire Todd

  32. BrianBucs Says:

I really would hate to see Bowles fired.
HOWEVER, it would be the very best thing for the team, the organization, the fanbase and the community.

  34. Southern BucLife Says:

According to my sources ” Todd was let go last nite after a heated discussion of having to replace many of his coaches and his refusal to do so.”. A interim head coach will be named and announced Monday , regardless if the team makes the playoffs or not.

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Stpetematt

This team and its defense have regressed under Bowles. His system is too complex and outdated, more importantly players either can’t or won’t play it. It’s non aggressive and “boring”

Add to that Bud Lichts overall incompetence and you realize that this years draft isn’t going to magically save this defense or this team.

We need new life. Coaches that can actually coach. Consequences for poor play.

  39. ATrain Says:

    Let me guess…….

If Bucs make it in playoff Bowles stays because he won the division again.

  40. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

The interim coach scenario is the ONLY reason I can think of to wish the Bucs make it to the Wild Card ( not the real playoffs)
    Juicy rumor…

  41. Bucs3 Says:

  42. adam from ny Says:

yeah man. cadie cade came to ball yesterday, like he did when both mike and chris went down last year…

it’s games and moments like that, where i lean heavily towards resigning him…

i heard he was all frothy and wet on the sidelines, in the rain…and barked into an nfl camera like a rabbid dog:

“the only way outta this mess…is thru this mess…!”

    that’s boss mentality

  43. Defense Rules Says:

HerbieBuc … ‘Please don’t make this mistake again TEAM GLAZERS! Coach Bowles deserves another season!’

Sorry Herbie, but Todd Bowles the DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR has shown over the past TWO seasons that he can’t fix this defense. It’s gotten worse and worse. This defense gave up 325 pts in 2023 (#7 rank), then 385 pts in 2024 (#16 rank) and now 411 pts in 2025 (#22 rank). That’s a horrible progression with mostly the same players (Vea, LVD, Winfield, Dean, McCollum, Kancey, Diaby, Nelson, Gaines, Logan Hall, Dennis, Izien, Merriweather, Hayes, Watts). That’s 15 defensive players who’ve been here ALL 3 YEARS … at least 9 of whom have been starters.

Beyond our defense bottoming out though, look at our offense & Special Teams. Our offense only scored 348 pts in 2023, Baker Mayfield’s 1st year here with Dave Canales as our new OC (ranked #20 in Points Scored … 20.5 PPG). Improved tremendously in 2024 by scoring a whopping 502 pts in Baker’s 2nd year with Liam Coen as his new OC (ranked #4 in Points Scored … 29.5 PPG). But this year, with Grizz as our new OC, the offense regressed tremendously in scoring only 380 pts in Baker’s 3rd year here (ranked #19 in Points Scored … 22.4 PPG average). That was barely good enough to get us to a 8-9 record, same as what we achieved in Todd’s FIRST year here as HC in 2022.

And Special Teams has been a disaster all year long. I can’t believe that McGaughey wasn’t fired after some of the S/Ts’ miscues. Instead the Bucs unbelievably decided to kick it into the end zone on each kickoff, letting opponents have it at the 35-yard line each time. Unbelievable.

So sorry Herbie, I’ve been a Todd Bowles’ supporter since he came here, UNTIL this year. He’s in way over his head and he’s NOT making decisions, as HC AND as DC, that help the Bucs improve. It’s time for a change, and if the Glazers don’t see that, then they’re part of the problem, and will reap the consequences next year.

  44. HC Grover Says:

Whole organization should be rebuilt. It has become cumbersome. Bowzo….Get Him Out!

  45. HC Grover Says:

Why this game determine what they do…??? That is not control over the situation. Weak

  46. adam from ny Says:

so coach got canned last night quietly huh…?

  47. Fred Says:

Southern….. I think you’re right. Not so heated though. I think Bowles knows he’s finished and he will retire before he’s fired. Either way, he needs to go.

  48. Fred Says:

None of us will really know what’s going on until Rod Munch tells us. Ha!

  49. Obvious Says:

You’d have to imagine that the only reason they haven’t fired him yet is if he’s coaching next week.

You don’t walk out of yesterday’s game not understanding what needs to be done. Not any sane person anyway.

  53. Pewter Power Says:

Liam Coen saved his job last year, then surpassed him as a rookie head coach. He has always been mediocre head coach because he’s too boring to be a leader of men. Defensive coordinator is his ceiling and there’s nothing wrong with that there’s many defensive and offensive coordinators like that.

  54. Popmike66 Says:

That’s the best news I’ve heard all weekend, hopefully it’s about fixing this team. The Bucs have several good players on both sides offensive and defensive. Fix the defense, get Mayfield to stop trying to do to much and let’s have a great 2026

  57. Tony1775 Says:

Never forget Bowles’ disastrous zero-blitz call in the 2022 playoffs leaving Cooper Kupp wide open for a 44-yard game-winning catch. Inexcusable coaching malpractice that ended the Bucs’ season.

“I don’t want to see Bowles gone…. I don’t know of any coach other than McVay himself I would really want if we were to lose Bowles.”
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Really? First, read DR’s post on why Bowles needs to be fired. While I will agree, it is a very bad year to dig thru the proverbial haystack for the golden needle that is a super star HC, it is irresponsible to keep a HC who has proven he cannot do the job.

So, you wouldn’t take a HC in Shanahan? Ben Johnson? Andy Reid? Jim or John Harbaugh? Come on man. You must have wrote that without giving it much thought.

The problem – FOR THE GLAZERS – is there is no obvious super star assistant like Ben Johnson or a college coach like Jim Harbaugh to grab. But, as I said, that is the Glazers problem

  59. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@DR, great post brother. Your points are spot on for Defense, ST and Offense.

I have come to the conclusion that, although it will be difficult to find a star HC this year, Todd has proven beyond a doubt that he is not the man to lead the Bucs to another SB, or even a NFC championship game

  60. Irishmist Says:

Senior Harry- How about Indiana’s head coach? He has won everywhere he’s been and he took a college with the worst overall record in history, that’s never won anything, to the brink of the National Championship.

  61. Stpetematt Says:

I disagree DR. I think the injuries and a locker room cancer or two (likely corners feeling their jobs were threatened) are the reason we lost a ton of games. Those 2 corners were dealt with and the defense looks better again. Now if we could just get the safeties to cover deep passes we’re in business. The guards are killing us right now but Bredeson may be back should we make the playoffs. That’s potentially huge! At least then we can play the better of the 2- but im not sure who that is, lol.

  62. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Hopefully, the Glazers have realized that Bowles’ time here as HC has run its course. Time for change.

  63. View from 132 Says:

This is odd. Bowles needs the Saints to win to keep his job?

  64. Tye Says:

On a positive note: 2026 Bucs HC Kubiak added a solid game to his resume last night….

  65. BigSombrero Says:

The Glazers will be holding a press conference to announce an increase in ticket prices and lifetime extensions for GM and Head Coach.

  66. Stpetematt Says:

We beat the 49ers just like they did. Beat them too.

  67. StormyInFl Says:

Bowles sucks. And I’m honestly torn about the Bucs backing into the playoffs after starting 6-2. It would mean another wasted season with Bowles at the helm. He is NOT a good head coach. Even with all the favorable officiating yesterday, they squeaked by. Mostly because Todd went full turtle on offense in the 2nd half. Again. And once gain, takes a DUMB risk going all out blitz on that final touchdown. How many times has he done this, and how many times has it bit them? More than any Bucs fan cares to count.

This team will go nowhere until Bowles is gone. He is not a championship capable coach.

  68. Jmarkbuc Says:

    StPeteMatt

Strong locker rooms don’t lose 7/8. Strong locker rooms don’t require weekly chew outs. Strong locker rooms don’t have “a cancer or two” think about that.

The “culture” and “I am that man” BS is just Bud Lichts cover story for doing a lousy job.

As far as Bowles, he’s a bad coach, with a bad staff. He hired someone to manage clock and still managed to jack it up before half yesterday. That’s just one tiny example. Check his Jets history.. SAME. EXACT. THING.

    It’s time for Inspired Change
    Cmon man

  69. Popmike66 Says:

Well gentlemen, looks like we will know tomorrow from the press conference the Bucs have scheduled, what direction the team is going in. It doesn’t matter to me weather Bowles stay or go, I just want to see the team get fixed especially on defense. As someone said earlier, who is an available HC candidate with a winning credential. On the other hand someone said earlier just get rid of Bowles he’s had his chances. Again doesn’t matter to me I just want to see the team get especially on defense and a few tweaks on offense so the next time I sit out in the rain like I did at the New Orleans disaster, at least it will be worth it with a winning team

  74. HC Grover Says:

Bowzo is not a GURU and never has been. Licht is not a GM Guru and never has been. The players are not above average. And thats the way it is on this Won and Wait dysfuntion.

  75. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Adam from NY, I always enjoy your comments. Keep it up, man!

  76. Todd Says:

I thought it was telling when the game announcer said the Bucs have given up on covering kickoffs and sure enough McLaughlin booted all of them deep into the end zone, but the 35 is better than the 50

  77. 5 dash 2 Says:

For what it’s worth last night’s game was worse than the Panther Buc game and we beat both of those teams this year! The 49ers and Seahawks were playing for 1st place and neither team showed up. The NFC is wide open but it’s hard to see the Bucs beating anybody right now.

  78. Marky mark Says:

  79. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

No Kamara and no Olave for the Saints today! Doesn’t bode well for their chances. Go Falcons! Let’s get Mr. Mediocre fired!

  80. Megoat13 Says:

I hate to say it but if the Bucs make the playoffs at least for the rest of the time they have games to play I can’t see why they would fire a coach with games left to go. After this season who knows but if they’re alive so is Bowles job for now

Why would the Bucs need an interim coach if the Bucs do not make the playoffs?

Who is the Interim Coach going to coach? They are done and going home to watch TV!!!!

Also, I read there were a lot of bad calls yesterday at the Bucs Panthers Game, but I think they evened out and I don’t think they were material either way, the NFL needs better refs of current refs need to improve and Fire Goodell!!!
However, they will never fire Roger

  83. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I hope the delay is a prelude to Bowles’ termination. He screams mediocrity and his coaching record reflects it. Defensive Rules summed it up perfectly. The needle is pointing down and if the Glazer’s don’t fire Bowles, then they simply don’t want to win.

  84. Jugheadfla2 Says:

    Saints game open thread incoming?

  85. unbelievable Says:

Sadly I don’t think Bowles is going anywhere no matter what happens today.

Hooray for more mediocrity and ineptitude!

Cuz you know we will have the same OC, DC and STC next year… no accountability in Tampa Bay baby!

  86. Lastbeing Says:

Cade finally showed up, baker is a turnover machine getting to the point he’s playing reckless at times. Bowles all out blitz at the wrong times with rookie corners. We missed kancey presence all year. Vita went all out. David is a legend. O-line played tough and we ran the ball hard. Bowles should walk the plank. Just a little too late chief. Oh yeah, ST is atrocious still. Keep our kicker tho. GG

  87. Dlavid Says:

Come on Joe’s … how about a game day thread in lieu of the sorry circumstances ??!!

  88. Muscle Hampster Says:

Lifelong Bucs fan here who’s not going to care one way or another who wins today. Falcons win, Toilet Bowles is gone. Saints win and we get smoked next week anyway. This 2025 team is a waste of talent. If we can just stop a fourth and a mile, we’d be in the playoffs.

A ton of face value verified bucs tickets available for the WC game. Haven’t had season tickets since Brady, do they still require renewal for access to the playoff games?

Based on the blue seats, not a good look for the Glazers. Might have already had a ton of non-renewals.

Guess season ticket holders don’t want to see Torpid Todd and the Licht’s Losers get crushed by the Rams. Or these Bucs next year.

Cheaper to payoff Todd, than take the hit on non-renewals (add in parking and F&B)

  94. HC Grover Says:

Baker is our Big Jumbo Shrimp.

  95. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs have been done ever since Tom Brady left

The was trash before Brady, they’re trash after Brady

And all the Gullible Bucs fans that think Mayfield wins a Super Bowl
I truly feel sorry for you

  96. Clint Says:

I’m sorry…. It is hard to consider anyone cheering against the team to make the playoffs a good fan. Even if we do get in I doubt we make it far and believe it is Superbowl or bust for Todd at this point. Coaching has been way to conservative the past few weeks.

I do hope we move on from Todd, and get a good offensive coach.

As always…Go Bucs. I can’t cheer for the Saints but I sure as hell can cheer against the Falcons.

  97. Billy Says:

Just fire the man already. He and some of the coaches are holding this team back.

  98. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@Irish (funny, that was my nickname growing up): I heard the Indiana coach is making $12mm per year (Todd is making $3-4mm). Don’t see how he would give that up to come to the Bucs. He has been amazing at IU.

Most of the candidate HC pool are defensive HC. I would prefer we get an offensive minded coach to quit with the revolving door. Baker showed us what he can do with a great OC (Coen). Monkin is too old IMO, and I am not all the impressed with the weapons he has versus what he has done with them.

Kubiak didn’t do squat last year with the Saints. Is LAR’s Mike LaFleur a candidate? Maybe, but is his success due to having Stafford as QB? LaFleur has coached under both Shanahan and McVay, but can he be a HC?

I would LOVE to see Flores come here, but as a DC.

  99. UGotRobbed Says:

Fox just had a piece on the Jags, Lawrence and Coen…we sure screwed up by not forcing TB into a internal position and naming Coen head coach! It’s a Bucs life!

  100. JoeyJoeStein Says:

Too many con’s vs pro’s with Bowle. He blew trough his equity and is now in the hole

  101. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Holding off on a press conference until we see how the season ends. If ATL wins today, I think Bowles will retire/be fired. If a decision was already made to keep Bowles, why delay the press conference? Black Monday may be coming for Bowles.

You can not say the arrow is pointing if our season ends today. Is that not the determining factor, along with the pulse of us fans? How can you keep Bowles, unless there is a magic playoff carpet ride?

  102. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@ChiBuc, that is not a fair argument. Everyone knew Vrabel was going to succeed with the Patriots and Andy Reid was also a “know” no-brainer when Philly hired him.

Other no-brainers were Ben Johnson in 2025 and Jim Harbaugh in 2024. Who is the no-brainer this year? There is not one. At all. Nada.

Despite what Rod Muncher says, I think Baker is a big draw for a HC, as he should be. The Bucs have a lot of talent to maybe be the most attractive HC opportunity. Best WR group in the NFL (although, you would not think so judging by how little any of them got the ball last night. The Bucs just need better coaching and a frigging pass rush (can you believe we had ZERO sacks last night?!?!)

  109. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Forgot one… Matt LaFluer. There is a rumor that the Packers might let him go. I don’t believe it, but if it happened, I would be all over LaFluer for the Bucs HC

  110. Simeon4HOF Says:

Dont look good for the aints

  111. BucsFan81 Says:

I saw that report. If the packers really want to dump him then Bucs owners should be calling them. We will trade Bowles and a late round pick for there coach

  112. NJBucsfan23 Says:

Saints are playing hard. I like it

  114. HC Grover Says:

Guss this is the thread…Stanks intercept Chicks…..

  115. SteveK Says:

Cousins picked in the red zone. Go Saints!

  116. Rod Munch Says:

Remember… the Falcons are a team that spike the ball into their own groin celebrating a big upset. And a redzone INT to a defensive lineman is just that.

  117. Addb Says:

Both these defenses look better than ours

  118. HC Grover Says:

Can Bowzo back in again? Soooo pathetic.

  119. HC Grover Says:

Stanks working hard for Bowzo. They want him back.

  120. Dtownva Says:

I don’t mind the conservative play on a sloppy field. I do mind Bowles inability to get his defense to converge on the ball until the last game of the season. Where was that hustle during the losing streaks? This team lacks hunger and that falls squarely on the head coach.

  121. Dlavid Says:

Rooting for the Saints !! Fire Bowles regardless !!!

  122. JustVisiting Says:

I’d love to see the Bucs close.out their season with one really good game.
    Go, Saints!

  123. Son of a Buc Says:

I could see it in Bakes face a couple weeks ago. He looked worried and uncomfortable coming out of the tunnel to start the game. This has to be locker room vibe pregame…not good. Now you need a coach similar to McVay to get this thing going again. No disrespect to Mr. Bowels and Grizzard. They both just don’t have the charisma to get the best out of these younger talented players. Still rooting for the Saints today for the first time ever!

  124. HC Grover Says:

    Chicks in Red Zone

  125. Rod Munch Says:

Remember, the Bucs don’t need the Falcons to lose, they just need them not to win. I noted this yesterday, but if the NFL really wants to drag out the drama, a tie would do it.

  126. Defense Rules Says:

StPeteMatt … Like I mentioned previously, I’ve been a stalwart Todd Bowles supporter (with the exception that I REALLY dislike his being dual-hatted as both HC and DC). Some (like Andy Reid & Sean McVay) can do that successfully; Todd’s not one of those. Simply check the stats since 2022.

Injuries suck, and we’ve had more than our share. But predominantly on offense Matt, NOT on defense. And that’s where I grade his DC performance over these past several years.

That game yesterday against the Panthers was totally representative of what we’ve been seeing for at least the past 2 years on defense. ZERO pass rush … by anybody. ZERO sacks; 1 QB Hit in 49 defensive plays. They let Bryce Young complete 24 of 35 passes (68.6%) with 2 TDs. What saved our bacon is that the Panthers turned the ball over THREE times and couldn’t run the ball to save their lives (14 rushes for a whopping 19 yds). If the Panthers had been a better team they would’ve buried us.

Beyond the zero pass rush though, the pass coverage was abysmal as was the tackling. Totally frustrating to see a defense with the heritage of our Bucs’ defense playing like that.

  127. Mobucs Says:

Yesterday, a major reason the Bucs beat the Panthers is that Bowles thoroughly outcoached his opposite both in preparation and in game-time adjustments.
Unrelated point: as we’ve learned the last two years with Canales and Coen, teams looking for new head coaches have their candidates lined up before the season ends. You don’t just fire somebody in a high position without having his successor already on deck. Whom do you think the Glazers have been talking to? I’ve read no rumors at all, despite all the talk, at least on this site, that Bowles is walking the plank.

    …a scoreless tie…

  131. JustVisiting Says:

A scoreless tie sending an 8-9 team to the playoffs would pretty much capture the essence of the NFC South’s season.

  134. adam from ny Says:

    these 2 teams suck lol

  135. Rod Munch Says:

Defense Rules – I’ll take 14 points given up and 3 TO’s over winning the sack column on the stat sheet any day of the week.

Bowles played a very conservative game because he didn’t trust Baker, and he didn’t fear Young.

Over the last 6 games the Bucs defense is giving up 21.1 points a game – that pace would be 10th in the NFL based on the full season.

If the Bucs offense can’t consistently put up 22 points a game, then they’re not winning many, which is why the Bucs haven’t won much.

  136. Sal Volatile Says:

This is going to be interesting if not fun. Now that the owners fully realize they are completely boxed in and the future of their team is at stake, what will they do ? I’ll bet they are now wishing they had made a decision two years ago. If El Serpiente has a spare moment to think while he is playing for a super bowl he will likely be laughing his head off.

“The price of inaction is far greater than the cost of making a mistake.” Meister Eckhart

  137. HC Grover Says:

    Chicks start to skewr Bowzo

  138. Rod Munch Says:

Based on the current standings, which will still change today, if the Falcons win, the Bucs finish 3rd in the NFC South, and they’d pick 13th. This will likely change throughout the day.

If the Falcons do not score and the Bucs win the south, then they’d pick 19th.

  139. adam from ny Says:

this routing for the aints thing feels obtuse 🙂

  140. JustVisiting Says:

Rod Munch is right on this one. You can talk about missed plays, bad technique, poor coaching, etc., but in the end it comes down to points scored and points allowed.

  152. Stanglassman Says:

Let them watch the game and enjoy their day. They’ll probably schedule a presser if they get in the playoffs or when there’s something to report.

  153. Robert Says:

If you can’t see this team winning s Superbowl with Bowles then the answer is clear. Fire Bowles. If the Saints and Falcons were smart they would make sure the Bucs win the division and make the playoffs. If Bowles stays it means more of the same for next year. It means the division is easy pickings for next year.

  154. stucbuc Says:

Change is needed in soo many areas, it’s a must if the Bucs are to stay relevant. The division, as crappy as it is, is getting better.

  156. firethecannons Says:

agreed st pete buc, this division is better, lost to all of them x 1 this year, basically we are NOT better than them and we are getting worse all the time. We need a reset with a new coach that is the right coach.

    sorry I meant stubuc

  158. Nick jannette Says:

    Let’s get Kubiac

  159. firethecannons Says:

Nothing absolutely nothing to hope for with this team if Bowles keeps his job. The draft and FA moves will be completely meaningless. Nothing to look forward too, it will be worse next year. Nothing good comes from keeping bowls

  160. James Willie Says:

I like Todd Bowles and felt he deserved the job until he didn’t. Well, that day has come. #1 He is the head coach and the team runs his defensive system and he calls the plays. His system is either outdated or requires personnel the Bucs don’t have which means you have to improvise. #2 The lack of accountability. Special teams have been bad and have only gotten worse. He surrendered rather than coach and hold players accountable. And, Bullock should have been let go after the 1st Panthers game for the sake of the team and Bullock (who needed to learn a hard lesson).

  161. West Says:

A few more reports that Bowles is “at risk”. Maybe sanity will prevail. Surely, no team owner would retain a coach who basically admitted he had no idea what/who/how to fix through this demoralizing slide?

  162. South Lakeland Says:

Fire them cannons I mean Coaches!

  163. Defense Rules Says:

Rod Munch … ‘Over the last 6 games the Bucs defense is giving up 21.1 points a game – that pace would be 10th in the NFL based on the full season. If the Bucs offense can’t consistently put up 22 points a game, then they’re not winning many, which is why the Bucs haven’t won much.’

I don’t disagree with you Rod; the Bucs’ offense has been woefully ineffective in these last 6 games. I blame that partially on our injuries, but more-so on our new OC (the play-calling when it REALLY counted was marginal).

But we did play 6 teams in those 6 games whose average offensive ranking this season was just a tad north of #25 (not all that impressive?), and our offense in those 6 games did have a TOP of 32:30 minutes (meaning our defense only had to DEFEND for 27:30 minutes each game on the average). The only 1 of those 6 games that i made it to was the Arizona game (which we won), but I gotta tell ya, it wasn’t a fun game. Incredibly sloppy defense, and our offense wasn’t any better. If not for the Cards 2 turnovers, they would’ve beaten us.
