Baker Mayfield “Is Pretty Sore” And Calijah Kancey Is Possible For Saturday

December 29th, 2025

So how is Baker Mayfield feeling?

Joe suspects Mayfield’s feelings are hurt after he let the Bucs down in the fourth quarters of recent games.

Mayfield also was sacked three times yesterday against the Dolphins and he endured four quarterback hits. Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio today, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles acknowledged Mayfield was knocked around in Miami.

“He gives us everything he’s got. He’s pretty sore and I’m sure he’ll be ready for Sunday,” Bowles said.

Joe hopes Mayfield doesn’t have a fresh injury. He’s been completely off recent official injury reports but has battled knee, shoulder and oblique injuries this season.

On the upside, Bowles almost sounded hopeful defensive tackle Calijah Kancey could play Saturday afternoon. Bowles said a decision on Kancey (healing pectoral muscle) is likely a Friday or Saturday call. He was not upbeat about a return of edge rusher Anthony Nelson and said Tristan Wirfs could play if his toe heals enough.

Wirfs missed his fifth game of this season yesterday.

Well, there’s never a shortage of articles here at Joe’s!!!

However, a shortage of answers is an issue

Still, how in the world is Todd Bowles still here???

He has brought the term awful to a ‘New’ Level!!!

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ more excuses for Baker Mayfield come on Joe I get it y’all can’t criticize Baker Mayfield because of the Glazers lol 🤣🤣 but Baker is trash šŸ—‘ļø please stop with the Baker excuses. Kyle Trask was better than him in training camp in 2023 and y’all know it and now look lol 🤣🤣 . Baker is not a franchise quarterback or a Superbowl caliber quarterback.

My toe hurts 🤣🤣🤣🤣 game on line but my toe hurts.
Max plays half the season knowing he needed knee surgery.

  4. Bee Says:

Name a pro football player that isn’t sore at this point in the season. No excuses for America’s Turnover Machine Baker Mayfield.

  5. Lakeland Says:

Yeah his arm is sore from throwing so many clutch interceptions
This whole Yucs organization needs a facelift
    They keep pacifying these guys
Put some pampers on them and send them to bed

They Yucs players are too soft, soft as Charmin toilet tissue
Every week it’s another excuse for them,
If they break a fingernail, sit them for a few weeks

    Lol

  6. Todd Bowles Says:

Baker Mayfield’s ā€œpretty sore,ā€ huh? Joe, you armchair shrinks think his ego’s bruised from those fourth-quarter fizzles—nah, the man’s tougher than a frozen Bucs steak, taking three sacks and four hits like it’s just another party in Miami. I said he’s sore, sure, but ready for Saturday; sitting him? That’s quitter talk—Baker’s slinging it till the division’s ours, ice packs and all.

  7. Lakeland Says:

These Bucs players gotta be the softest players in the NFL

    Maybe in NFL history

  14. Pewter Power Says:

So he said today he’ll be ready for Sunday and yesterday it was announced the game is on Saturday. Details matter Bowles that’s your team is losing

  15. Let ā€˜em bake Says:

Thx Todd. Don’t let haters off. These same girls will hibernate next week when baker goes off for 3 tds, 350 yards on on the Carolina kittens.

  16. 19kill@ Says:

I just don’t understand how Baker is only hurt when he makes a bone headed play, and not when he takes off running and/or run defenders over. If Bowles goes Baker needs to go with him.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

I told you, Baker has been hurt this entire time. But if he’s healthy, well, you watch out, he’s literally better than Brady, Montana and Marino – combined plus 10,000,000! But dang it, the injuries, it just never lets him shine. That and all the people around him plot to keep him down because they’re jealous of his greatness.

  18. Jugheadfla2 Says:

Bowels must be pooing bricks over there after the Falcons TD

  19. Aqualung Says:

Let’em Bake – Mayfield has sucked. We should all be disappointed that he’s regressed.

But, everyone. Every. Player. Regresses under the coiching of Tood Bloweszo, so he has a chance with Monken or equal.

  20. BPBucsfan Says:

Don’t look now, but Falcons just went up 7-0 on the Rams. Early of course, but is it the way the way the night is going to go?

    ——–

Baker threw for over 360 yards and 2 TDs last week and everyone is hating on him, he basically single handedly kept the Bucs in the game! He had everything under wraps and the victory sealed up, but Chewbacca was jealous of his greatness so he let the Dolphins player get through completely untouched to rob Baker of the greatness he’s due. If everyone would stop plotting against Baker, his true final form could then be achieved. The fact the cheap Glazers are only paying him $42M next year for what will be his first of many MVP seasons is insane, and Baker should tell the team he’ll never play here again and demand to go play somewhere, even Canada if he needs to in order to make the point that he’s the best!

  22. Aqualung Says:

Stafford is uberstud. Baker not so much.

  23. Lakeland Says:

Yeah we need Baker and his amazing 26-24 record with us
It will be hard to find another QB that can top his winning percentage

    ———

I said during the Bucs-Rams game when the Bucs were getting destroyed that the Rams would go on to lose to Carolina… and then Carolina would lose to the Saints. It’s just the way things are.

If the Rams did lose to the Falcons tonight, which I don’t think will happen, the Falcons will follow up that victory by losing to the Saints. It’s just the way things are.

  25. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Rest them all. It’s not gonna matter anyway.

  26. JohnQCitizen Says:

Brenden is right. Baker has no protection and has to hurry every throw while he’s scrambling like crazy. With a set of new coaches, he will look great again.

  27. MadMax Says:

Seasons over anyway….especially with todds D….even if we win, dirty birds could f it up for us, i mean they’re up 14-0 on the rams lol.

You sure you’re not talking about Jamel Dean?

  29. HeavyE Says:

I bet if You went baker and told him that Bazelek, was getting the start this Saturday, he wouldn’t be sore or hurt anymore, baker is a waste, he begged the organization to get rid of Trask, so he wouldn’t have any competition, he is weak minded, and has all of you fooled, by making you think that he is just a tough guy,& then we go out and get a qb, that wears two gloves to be the backup Qb, and baker is so happy with, this signing, just because he knows there is no competition, to deal with! baker is a POS……oh I’m sorry, I forgot he’s hurt!!! LMAO!!! Let’s Go Bucs!!! Start Bazelek! We will win for Sure!!!

  30. Ben the GA Buc Says:

No reason to rush Kancey back. We can win this game if we play ball the way we did in the first six games. I just we’re just mentally defeated, though. If they’re tuning Bowles out, and they seem to be tuning Lavonte out, we’re cooked.

Only reason I want to win on Saturday is to keep the streak of division titles alive. If we did that, though, I’d be afraid they’d give Bowles another year. Not what’s best for the Bucs.

The loss to the Falcons wasn’t Baker’s fault but the haters here will tell you it was. Third down and 28 and the defense shined

We are done, ATL is up 21-0, Thanks Licht. Bowels and baker, oh I’m sorry baker is hurt……..

  37. BucWild410 Says:

Bucs likely eliminated tonight, the Rams are getting boat raced by RAHEEM “8-9” MORRIS and the Falcons…..21-0 at the half……FIRE BOWELS the hour the game is over or I am out.

  38. HeavyE Says:

Tell baker, that Bazelak will be getting the start,on Saturday, I bet you that he wouldn’t be sore or hurt anymore……. Start Bazelak, what do we have to lose??? Let’s Go Bucs!

  39. Oneilbuc Says:

Ben . I’m sick of you Baker fan boys it’s not hate it’s facts he threw 2 picks and he fumble this is why Baker is on his 4th team get over.

  40. Saskbucs Says:

ONeilBuc… Baker has definitely sucked but we aren’t running him outta town. He has played good ball for this team in the last 2 years.

Stafford has 2 picks tonight. Darnold threw 2 picks in a game for the division and the Seahawks still won. Purdy threw a pick 6 to open the game last night and the 49ers won.

Turnovers are allowed if the team is aggressive and isn’t coached that turnovers automatically equal losses. Bowles coaches so scared and has such a bad D that a QBs turnovers are magnified. His coach tight games, run the ball, control clock game plans make turnovers tough to overcome. No urgency ever.

If the offense is supposed to carry the team, you don’t just let clock wind to end quarters or halves… you run as many plays as possible. This terrible staff hasn’t learned a thing!

  41. Buc in VA Says:

Mayfield makes a lot of bad decisions on passes into double coverage. But the worst thing has been underthrowing open receivers behind all the DBs. And they have to stop or slow dramatically to try to wait for the ball. So many missed TD’s by missing excellent routes with open receivers.

  42. Aqualung Says:

Oneil, Baker has sucked. No one should be making excuses for him. I will say this – under this Belowszo guy, I’m sure no one is playing to their potential . Baker will be a Buc next season, if Belowszo is still coiching he will suck even worse and probably the team gets blown up like in 2009. Need a real head coach and three full time coordinators.

  43. Rob5 Says:

Oneilbuc so MR. GM what QB you going to replace Baker with…ive got to hear this…

  44. FortMyersDave Says:

How about those Falcons, up 21-0 on the Rams. Good guess they will be favored over the Saints so that should make Saturday’s game meaningless which is a good thing as Bowles and his crew crack under pressure. Winning a meaningless game is like racking up points in grabage time like Baker did when he connected for the TD with Godwin…….. Unfortunately, the W could give the Glazers a reasoin to save Bowles, I hope not…… He is responsible for the team falling off of the cliff. Other teams like the Niners had adversity and got through it, Bowles folded like a cheap tent….. Fire him!

  45. Rob5 Says:

So many of you act like great QBs are just waiting for the Bucs to call them up…we dont have high draft picks…

  46. Aqualung Says:

Hilariously the season is already over! The Falcons beat the Rams and then have the Saints at home, LOL. Fire Belowszo tonight. Please. End the misery.

  47. Les Says:

FIX THE O LINE , YOU FIX BAKER .SIMPLE AS THAT .

  48. Bucnbeers Says:

Well, looks like the Falcons might beat the Rams. Is the NFL rigged? Any given team…BS

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Teams like the Falcons will beat a team like the Rams, then lose to the Saints, you can pretty much guarantee it. I know the majority of so-called Bucs fans in here want the team to lose and miss the playoffs, so they’re giddy about the Rams losing, but we saw this for many years with bad Bucs teams – they’d beat an 11-2 Buffalo team, then follow it up by losing to a 4-10 Bears team. It’s just the way it is when you’re a ‘youngry’ team.

  50. Oscar Says:

Come on Stafford, put that team on your back and win this game like we know you can.

  51. Oscar Says:

No pressure on Stafford on that touchdown.

Also he went out in the 2nd quarter of the 2nd game you idiot, he was literally on pace for a 17 sack season.

  60. Oscar Says:

I guess the mvp couldn’t put his team on his back after all even with a lot of help from his friends and coach. My goodness, 3 picks, he’s now at 9 which is only one less than Baker the turnover machine. Against the dirty birds no less!

  62. Outrigger Says:

No sense in playing Cancey on Saturday. Falcons just beat the Rams and Bucs’ playoff chances are over. Hilarious

  63. firethecannons Says:

Joe what difference does it make if Baker is sore and Kancy will be back. Its too late!!!!!!!!!!! We are no good and our head coach is the worst in the league. Nothing absolutely nothing to look forward to with Bowles as HC, absolutely no hope at all.

  64. Bosch Says:

I think we can safely say the Bucs are third best team in the division. The only question Tharp remains is whether the Bucs or the saints are the worse. Right now, I would call that a tie.

  65. firethecannons Says:

Tell Tristan Wirfs to tape his fukked up toe and get his ass out on the field. Damn its the last game of the year. Take a toradol shot and get it wrapped and get off the bench.

  66. ElioT Says:

    They are questionable….

    ——-

Good Greek moving & storage has staffed up and feeling great.

They will be a full participant after Saturday’s game.

  67. Oscar Says:

Stafford has now cost the Rams 2 games this year at least because of his picks. 2 picks and a lost fumble against the Panthers and tonight 3 against the Falcons including a pick six. Against the stinky NFC South no less. They are 11-5 because they are a very good team that plays complementary football and is well coached. My intention is not to bash Stafford, he is a great quarterback and deserves to be MVP. The point is that to have the success he is having it takes a team effort. Nobody can do it on their own. Stafford > > Baker for sure but some posters here expect way too much from Baker when the Bucs are not a good team right now.

  68. Oscar Says:

Oh I see Rod, all calls are favorable to Baker and the Bucs. That tops your most idiotic statement and there are many!

  69. Oscar Says:

    Rod Munch says ;

Sounds like you make excuses for poor play indiscriminately.
