Bucs In Danger Of Third-Place Finish

December 21st, 2025

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris

Who would have thought that Falcons quarterback Kirk “You Like That Again” Cousins would throw for less than 200 yards today and an interception?

He lost a fumble, too. It’s amazing how average (or worse) Cousins looks when not facing the Bucs.

Bucs-killer Kyle Pitts, the Falcons tight end, also had a nothing-special day after torching the Bucs 10 days ago. Still, the Falcons had enough to beat the three-win Cardinals 26-19 in Arizona.

The Falcons were able to take a knee to close the game after the Cardinals rather quickly threw an interception on the third play of their final drive.

That means Atlanta’s record now sits at 6-9, just one game behind the Buccaneers (7-8). That’s how far the Bucs have fallen. They could actually finish behind the Falcons with two games remaining.

Joe knows some Bucs fans are rooting for that, as it would help the Tampa Bay draft position. Sorry, Joe can’t go there when there’s at least a chance remaining to qualify for what looks like a very unpredictable postseason.

  1. Buc in VA Says:

I want the Bucs to win out and make the playoffs. But if they finish third in the Sorry South, that would be about right.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

IF the Bucs are not making the playoffs, then yeah, take the 3rd place finish and the higher pick and easier schedule (in theory) next year.

But, again, the Panthers aren’t beating the Seahawks, so it’s still going to come down to week 18.

  3. SB~LV Says:

    What difference does it make?
The standard going into the first game was making it to the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!
    Nothing else matters!
    Blah blah blah
So many years of Division Championships 🥱🥱🥱🥱
You are either Super Bowl Champions or NOTHING !

  4. Rob Says:

There is also a chance we could tie the Saints as basement dwellers. They currently have 5 wins.
At this point nothing would shock me.

  5. Aqualung Says:

Tood Bolwes has won his last football game as a head coich. He’s through.

  6. SB~LV Says:

    So….
Suddenly the Bucs are going to play dominant football on offense and defense
    Bwahahahahaa

  7. johnnythemoon Says:

Bucs Falcons and Panthers could all finish 8-9 ,,..lol

  8. Whatevs Says:

Todd 500 Bowles coming back to average.

    Never going to change.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So much for the “easy” part of our schedule…

  10. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    GOOD!

  11. Jerseybuc Says:

Whatevvs he’s 18 games under 500 as a HC. Hes not even 500. Radio is trash always been trash. Knew it was absolute mistake letting coen leave meanwhile hes got the jags at what 11 wins just beat Denver.

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The bucs are losers and doesn’t even deserve to be in the playoffs

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Only good news is that the Saints, Falcons & Panthers draft picks are getting worse…..ours may be getting better….

  14. Rod Munch Says:

I had not even considered this scenario…

If the Falcons WIN out, the Panthers LOSE out, and the Bucs LOSE to the Dolphins – that three way 8-9 tie gives the tie-breaker to the Panthers.

Wow, didn’t even occur to me to even do that possible outcome.

The Falcons game next week is vs the Rams, who still have a legit chance for #1 overall, so they’re not going to be resting guys, but man, I did not see that coming.

So yeah, the Bucs DO have to beat the Dolphins, otherwise it’s scoreboard watching on next Monday night.

  15. Cleanhouse Says:

I would bet the house that a bad team can’t become good magically. Theres not a team in the playoffs that wouldn’t easily dismantle this sad Bucs team.

Todd Bowles’ halftime adjustments are just changing the font on the play sheet

  22. Deeboooo Says:

I would hate to be a falcon fan who is hoping Rah gets the boot, but their team comes back to get 2nd in the division and save his job.

  23. Bowles portly self Says:

Would rather have their young talent

The Buccaneers are undefeated… in making average quarterbacks look elite

  24. Surfing The Waivers Says:

The Ravens are even showing up against an 11-3 team

    Fire, cut, sell, whatever.

    Change is mandatory.

Gruden and Dungy were nuked for far less than this.

  25. Lakeland Says:

Jason Licht is 92-102 as a GM
Todd Bowles is 60-72 as a HC
Baker Mayfield is 57-60 as a starting QB

You can’t really expect much from this trio

  26. Saskbucs Says:

Wow … a Munch post that’s not about Baker ruining the team. How refreshing.

  27. Lokog Says:

Back to the cellar go these bucs im expecting todd blows to be fired on purple monday

  28. JReel Buc Says:

Glazers your on the clock!…. you fired others for much less…. we are waiting

  29. Rod Munch Says:

Look at these words of wisdom from me after week 6… Today was week 16, and we’re not chanting MVP anymore.

    ——————-

    Rod Munch Says:
    October 14th, 2025 at 3:04 pm

……people need to shut-up chanting MVP in week 6. How often does that ever work out? Week 16, absolutely, but week 6? Stop it, you’re just jinxing him and the Bucs.

  30. ElioT Says:

    @Lakeland

    Nailed it.

    Lead by losers

  31. JReel Buc Says:

Glazers got duped … theyre just too good to know when to fire and hire they fumbled on Coen I think the fans knew it, it made bucs fans feel good when he goofed on Duvaaaaal! but the fan base people who know football can evidently see what a mistake it was why cant the owners see it what are they looking at

  32. BUCDADDY Says:

I don’t believe we will beat the Dolphins. We are outcoached every week by even the most poorly ran organizations. It’s utterly pathetic how many bad decisions our coaching staff make each week to give games away.

The defense does suck, but they are not being coached properly. We have some talented players, but like Baker, they are not being put in a position to succeed.

But let’s just blame it all on Baker. It’s pretty hilarious that a lot of the comments on here are still aimed at blaming Baker over one play.

The whole game was our coaching staff not capitalizing on Carolina’s mistakes. Again, 14 for 18 for 118 yards. Those stats show it’s not really on the QB as much as not passing the ball more. That’s just over 8 yards per reception. Not phenomenal, but serviceable. This also shows we never tried to stretch the field and go deep. It’s inexcusable by the coaching staff! They have tried the dink and dunk, mixed with the run for weeks now. It doesn’t work in the NFL! They’re living in the past. We need new coaches now!

Well he was playing MVP level that was the reason they were winning and the only reason he cooled off nothing wrong with fans chanting what is true at the time

    ———

    It was week 6.
The season is 17 games, and 18 weeks long.

MVP isn’t decided in week 6, thus chanting MVP is moronic.

It’s like the people celebrating winning the week 6 ESPN Power Poll. Who cares, it’s week 6, get back to me in week 16. Well, we’re here, and the Bucs have dropped from 1st to probably around 22nd.

  36. BucsFan81 Says:

Looking like it might be time to clean house. New GM, Coach and Quarterback. We should be seeing articles in the next couple weeks of candidates for next year.

  37. DJR589 Says:

Why on earth would Joe give a DAMN if there’s a shot at the post season?! This is a horrible team that doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Even if they get lucky and win the division, do we really think this is a Super Bowl caliber team?! Because that’s the goal! What good does it do if the Bucs make the playoffs this year by barely winning the worst division in the league only to get slaughtered. Great teams win the super bowl, this team is barely average at best. I guarantee a majority of the fanbase want us to lose out so Bowles gets fired, for draft picks, and a fresh start. We love our team and are looking to the future, because the present is Not it! I heard Ira ask why would fans want their team to lose, that’s why! There is NO SUPER BOWL for the Bucs under Todd Bowles. This team has reached their ceiling under him. Hell he said it at the podium last week! Do a flash poll on how many of us would rather lose the rest of the games this season vs Todd Bowles being the coach next season!!!!

  38. BUCDADDY Says:

Biggest stat line that is so telling of the epic failures of this coaching staff was with Baker. In the 4th quarter, he is 14 for 18 with 118 yards. There are high school teams that have the balls to pass the ball more than us. This is a pass-heavy league. You coach your team to play like cowards, you get bullied. Wanted to wait until late in the game to open up the offense. One Baker interception late in the game is no indication of how he played, or how the game was lost. He was averaging just over 8 yards per pass. Can’t run the ball every down. This isn’t peewee football, it’s the NFL. Can’t play like sissies the whole game and then expect him to bail you out at the last minute every week. Yeah, this season is as good as done. Can undo stupidity in one week. These coaches just don’t seem to get it. Gotta risk it for the biscuit! God, I miss BA coaching this team.

  39. JReel Buc Says:

Mvp level ! At the time of course everyone knows its a long season your not revealing any hidden facts but he played at a high level for 6 weeks its worthy of zmVP chant no different from Linsanity, players get hot and they are worthy of an MVP chant. Doesnt mean the whole fan base believe wholeheartedly its going to happen ,but its ok your hurt mad a frustrated I understand. Its a rough season im here. Take my shoulder Ron

  40. Surfing The Waivers Says:

Both Licht and Bowles need to be evaluated.

Mister “King of the Picks” hasn’t drafted the best players.

Braswell? JTS? Barton? Kancey? I like Calijah but dude can’t stay on the field.

    And I could go on.

  41. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Munch – hard to blame fans for chanting MVP in week 6 since we’ve never had that potential reality before at QB. Doesn’t say much for our organization. I hear you though.

Seems pretty jackassery at this point.

  42. Surfing The Waivers Says:

    Also, NFL teams need LINEBACKERS.

HOW ABOUT WE TRADE FOR/DRAFT A FEW?!??

    Unbelievable

  43. Surfing The Waivers Says:

American Fooball. Does anyone in this organization watch it?

  44. Let ‘em bake Says:

Last year, with a solid interior, baker enjoyed the 5th best protection rating, now he drops back under the third worst…
Wonder what that does to performance…..😳

  45. DJR589 Says:

@ Let em bake, I agree! He’s dancing back there. Can’t get set!

  46. Power Of Pewter Says:

Bucs are 1-6 since the bye, and despite being relatively healthy there’s no evidence to indicate Bowles is capable of halting the collapse. Indeed, as his seat gets hotter, and he becomes more desparate, he’ll likely continue to make poor decisions prolonging it. I’d like to see the Bucs close out the season with a couple wins, but realistically it ain’t going to happen.

  47. Rob5 Says:

So many of you have memory loss JL got TB and won a super bowl..some teams have none…yes Todd may need to go but be careful what your you wish for
needs to a sure thing upgrade…and dont forget this
team has been in cap hell also…to keep us wining after the bowl…is not easy…

  48. Bucmeup Says:

With this being a possibility, it’s all officially become a disgusting circus

  49. Oxycondomns Says:

sometimes i wonder if the bucs or someone in the organization feeds the narrative to the local media. all of a sudden they realize bowles isnt any good? The local media is full of crap ,

  50. Bucmeup Says:

Todd Bowles better learn how to golf. I weirdly don’t even blame any players for this collapse. Bowles is just running a k-mart operation

  51. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Panthers will beat the Seahawks
The Dolphins will beat the Bucs
…and Buc fans will be able to find $10 tickets to their last game vs Panthers

  52. FortMyersDave Says:

It appears that the players are just making mistake after mistake. That is on coaching because there is a culture of no accountability on this team. The Rams launched their special team coach after a bad Thursday night. Bowles lets his friend on ST stay employed all season. No players benched for bad play…. The coaching staff has to go. Licht will probably get a pass from the Glazers but his inability to address team deficiencies needs to be addressed too. He has made some good picks but many busts on day 2 and he will not trade for talent if his life depended on it.

  53. Chris Says:

I hate to say this. Tampa winning the next two games isn’t going to happen. Anyone watching this team sees the many issues this team has. We are not a good team and at this point in the season playing all this way shows this team is in turmoil, especially with all the talent we have on this team. Something has happened to this team/locker room there is no team there are a few but the rest has checked out many weeks ago.

  54. Chris Says:

If the fans could tell how good Coen was/is it seems Licht and the Glazers did too. Keeping Bowles and not hiring Coen is a huge franchise mistake. I’m not sure who will be the next head coach but they had a winner in Coen.

  55. Aqualung Says:

The “something happened” is 100% correlated to the loser clown holding two full time coaching jobs and showing to be incompetent at both. How does anyone want to come to work for an abject loser?

  56. Confido75 Says:

The Glazers know what needs to be done to put out this dumpster fire of a team. If you can fire Tony Dungy for far less, you can definitely fire Bowles and his entire staff.

  57. Bucfan1988 Says:

Falcons play Rams next week -> Loss for Falcons
Carolina plays Seahawks next weekend -> Loss for Carolina

Bucs aren’t finishing in 3rd but they won’t win either….

Sucky 2nd place in the worst division in the NFL

    RIDICULOUS!!!!!

After Glazers fire Bowles & staff, I know who I wanna see hired…..

Todd Monkan!! OC of the Ravens…..

Fiery dude that knows how to call plays & motivate……

Liked him when he was here under Koetter so bring him back!!
Then find you a decent DC and we cooking with gas….

We have decent players who are unmotivated by terrible coaching…

  58. Jake Hammer Says:

Todd was never going to win a Super Bowl. The Glazers were sold a turd by BA. Period.

  59. Lefty Says:

Not brimming with confidence that the heirs of Malcolm can make a good decision on head coaching moves. It is a crapshoot to begin with, but since daddy Malcolm has relinquished the reign, the boys have given us Radio Raheem, Schiano, Lovie, and Dirk. I’d say that there was some luck involved with the flyer on Arians due to the JL connection with him…BA proceeded to luck into Brady and then BA force fed us the Todd Bowles sh!t sandwich.

  60. BUCDADDY Says:

Just as a reference, Drake Maye had higher numbers in the first half tonight than Baker did all game. He actually threw the ball 20 times, with 1 interception. But guess what? Bet he’ll still be in the MVP conversation after tonight. New England actually knows how to use a quarterback, unlike the terribly ran Tampa organization. Also, New England was tied at the half, unlike us. But the main difference: They are giving their QB the ability to make plays instead playing chicken sh*t football. You’re welcome, Baker haters.

  61. BUCDADDY Says:

Just as a comparison. Drake Maye has thrown the ball 20 times in the first half. That’s 2 more times than Baker in the 4th quarter today. He also threw an INT, but he’ll still be in the MVP conversation after tonight because New England knows how to use their QB. They give him opportunities to win the game instead of keeping him on a leash. And before everyone says he is so much better than Baker, the numbers are very comparable.

Simply put, Tampa’s offense is not being ran to compete with the rest of the league. 18 passes in the 4th quarter! Ridiculous!

  62. gotbbucs Says:

Every single team in this division is going to finish the season stronger than the Bucs. Even the Saints have won three in a row.

  63. Bucfan1988 Says:

I think coaches will wanna come down here to Tampa.

Definitely wouldn’t get rid of Licht yet.
Licht has never really chosen his own guy other than Arians and that worked fine.

Licht is a superb drafting guru and gets appropriate players suitable for the coaches scheme.

The problem we’d had is absolute abismal coaching.

You can tell we have some talent but they are unmotivated and ow younger a discipline issue due to Bowles coaching now falling on deaf ears……

If Licht gets the right offensive minded coach, and a decent defensive scheme, Bucs will be in the playoffs next season assuming decent health…

  64. Tye Says:

The bottom of the NFC, much less the NFCS, is where they belong keeping bowels as HC not seeing like so many of us that he was no better than HC for Jets…
The Bucs success these past few years was due to good OCs in spite of Bowels…
An average OC exposed Bowles inadequacies and now the Bucs pay the price…

Every seat in Ray Jay should be empty next season IF the Glazers retain his services!

  65. Bucnbeers Says:

For what it’s worth, Rock Riley says Todd Bowles will be back.

  66. eoschwartz Says:

Sean McVay fired an assistant today because they lost a game they needed and it likely means they will be a wild card. It was special teams coach! That’s why the Rams win, accountability, not something Todd Bowles demands from his players.

  67. Told You Says:

Joe, start a productive thread on what really good head coaches are out there for when we do get rid of Bowles.

  68. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Glad to see Cohen doing so well with the Jags. Even if the Glazers have been able to live fine with the mediocrity of .500(ish) seasons and early exits in the playoffs that has been the past handful of seasons under Todd Bowles as HC, I have to think the potential humiliation of getting razzed by others in their social circle for having Cohen in the building and letting him leave without any HC counter-offer will be the impetus for them to swing big again with the next HC hire. Never underestimate the power of a bruised ego. It sucks watching the once promising 50th season implode now, but the team has enough talented pieces for a good HC to come in next year and right the ship quickly.

  69. MelvinJunior Says:

You never see collapses like THIS in the NFL. It is an EPIC COLLAPSE. You’ll sometimes see it happen like this in MLB, but not the NFL. One thing about it though, when it does happen in MLB, the Manager always gets fired. EVERY TIME. And, prob the GM most of the time, too. He would have to if he’d made anything close to the types of moves, and put the team’s future in the position, that JL has put the Bucs in right now. There’s no reason to delay the inevitable. There has to be wholesale changes beginning at the very TOP. This Bucs team is nowhere EVEN CLOSE to contending. It’s a whole lot worse than what a lot of people on here, could even know!!!!

  70. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Joe’s…stop defending Jason Licht. You call him a SB builder? So if Tom Brady doesn’;t come here…what is he then?

  72. LANshark Says:

  73. MelvinJunior Says:

I mean, JL has made it where these guys are not even trade-able.

  74. MelvinJunior Says:

The entire defense needs overhauled. There’s nothing there in your front 7, but an aging Vea. You have Bucky, JMac, & EE on offense, but no TRUE #1-WR. Wirfs.

  75. MelvinJunior Says:

Extremely young secondary, outside of Junior. I’m telling ya, this team is sooooo farrrrr AWAY, from actually ‘contending’ for a Super Bowl, that it’s just not even funny!!!!

  76. MelvinJunior Says:

The same people clamoring all over for and defending JL are the exact same people who were content with keeping Bowles over COHEN. Enough Said. Remember IT.

  77. MelvinJunior Says:

If you people have faith in LICKT (just like ya did with Bowles), then HAVE AT IT. But, I am OUT. 💯 DONE. Not settling for it and will NOT support it. Period. End of Story.

  78. LakelandSteve Says:

So if Atlanta, New Orleans and Carolina are sorry teams and they have all beat us, what does that make the Bucs?

  79. DBS Says:

Watching some of these games like this NE game is sickening. It shows how bad the Bucs really are all the way around.

  80. MelvinJunior Says:

They don’t have ONE ‘starting caliber’ LB (on a good team) on their ENTIRE ROSTER. Not ONE. Now, let that sink in.

  81. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Jason Licht and Bruce were 7-9 losers before Brady had to come here after SF said no. What has JL done to improve the team? Brady brought Gronk, AB, Fournette…who else? Not Jason. Jason was a passenger. It’s ok to say it. It’s the truth. Arians is a joke. He left and put Todd in charge. Another loser. Jason is just sitting there. Ok! Brady was always the only winner in the BUCS organization. Everyone else are losers. And it shows

  82. buccintimeforchanges Says:

I am getting moderated for telling the truth

  84. SBucs Says:

The Bucs need a cosmic realignment. This is a poorly constructed uninterested team without a backbone and somewhat unable to overcome terrible game plans and in game coaching. There’s blame enough for everyone involved. Clean house, including Jason. He does not know defense and has made questionable offensive drafts. The coaching regresses all the players that’s remotely capable. Backups haven’t been good, That’s on Jason. I don’t see how this team wins the next two games. Even if they do and make the playoffs, they’ll get smoked by whoever they play.

    Inspire change

    Change the damn front office

We shoulda traded for Crosby or Garrett

Hassan Reddick where is the pressure

Panthers literally handed us the game and we still lost

  88. Jarrett Says:

I was getting HARGRAVES flashbacks of him getting picked on

    This a grown man’s game

  89. Jmarkbuc Says:

Licht is anything but a “superb drafting guru”. Lovie Smith picked him for the job here. That’s all you need to know.

    GMAFB.

  90. Bucs And Them Says:

Only in the NFC South division can the last place team (Saints) be the best team in the division. Glazers, burn it down. We fans care more than the team does……..Inspire change? What does that even mean? I’m too ‘woked’ out to care anymore.

  91. BucsFan81 Says:

Something is just wrong with this team. It doesn’t even look like the same offense or the same Baker from beginning of the season. No one even seems to be having fun. They look like a team going through the motions. I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually lose next week against a bad Miami team. I think these players just want to go on vacation and the coaching staff knows they are cooked.

  92. Al Johnson Says:

Seriously? You think they’ll do anything in the post season if they skate in? I highly recommend everyone read Pewter Report for a no BS approach to Bucs reporting. These guys clearly are afraid of losing their credentials and take a biased approach to reporting.

Licht is anything but a “superb drafting guru”. Lovie Smith picked him for the job here. That’s all you need to know.

    ———-

And he built a SB roster.

And the Bucs went all-in to try to keep the roster together to keep winning. We knew in 2023 the roster probably needed a reboot, but the NFC South has been so bad, the Bucs tried to extend the window, hoping to get hot in the playoffs.

Licht has done his job well, but the team has been living on borrowed time. Baker has turned back into a pumpkin, and with that, any chance at winning.

But, still, 1 more game left, if Baker gets hot out of the blue, the Bucs still have plenty of offensive talent to outscore anyone. IF Baker gets hot. IF Baker keeps playing like he’s played the last 2+ months, the Bucs will lose out.

  96. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Jmarkbuc,

Licht IS a superb drafting guru and is great at finding hidden talent late in the draft.

The issue isn’t Licht, it’s the lack of coaching & player development…..

THAT IS NOT LICHT’S JOB !!!!!!!!
His job is to help manage salary cap, and bring in quality talent for the coaching staff to fit their scheme and type of player they chase.

Bowles has an outdated scheme and he doesn’t have the horses to run his crazy complex formations. Players constantly out of position.

Bring in a new PROFICIENT coaching staff and let Licht bring in the players needed to fit that scheme and see what happens…..

Licht made his drafting mistakes early in his GM career. This dude is solid now when it comes to scouting talent..
