Baker Mayfield Shoulders Blame, Says Lay Off The Defense

December 12th, 2025

Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield doesn’t want to hear any smack run about the Bucs defense.

Oh, the Bucs quarterback understands why fans are outraged at another defensive collapse, coughing up a two-touchdown lead in the second half to put the Bucs on the brink of collapse for the 2025 season.

Mayfield, instead, believes he set the table for the collapse. Mayfield threw a gruesome interception in the second half that gave the Dixie Chicks life and they responded.

“Falls on my shoulders,” Mayfield said. “Can’t turn the ball over. Can’t have that interception. Just got to hit [Emeka Egbuka] in stride on that third down.

“Listen, you can say what you want about being up two scores and the defense right there. We have to be better on offense. It comes down to how I play.”

While Mayfield’s play has slipped a great deal the past six weeks, he had a decent game on Thursday night. And despite having a terrible post-bye season, Mayfield is still the ultimate team guy. So Mayfield taking the blame is what he does to protect his teammates.

This loss is absolutely on the defense and, in particular, the defensive coordinator who still hasn’t learned to hatch a defense to stop Kirk freaking Cousins.

  1. Tbbucs3 Says:

How is the loss on the defense? Did they play great? No, but Baker threw a CRUCIAL interception in field goal range when you could’ve gone up 2 scores.

You cant say this was just on the defense. Both offensive and defensive collapse.

  2. Nick coco Says:

Lee and Steve please bring this up on the next podcast. Baker mayfield is not the guy. He is overrated and it pains me to say bc I like him. Look at his record vs good teams and don’t even get me started in primetime. He’s won one regular season game (pritmetime) since being a buc. He is also inaccurate.

  3. HC Grover Says:

Our Guru Bozo learned how to be a Guru from Timothy Leary. His defense shows it.

  4. Steven007 Says:

T-Bucs, they were up two scores. Baker didn’t have his best game. But the defense gave up the booty, no matter what rod munching haters say.

  5. BUC4L Says:

Baker if you are hurt then don’t play. I love you as a player but you had multiple weapons on the Browns and failed and you have the same on the Bucs….that ain’t no 6/7….Coach in my opinion is already fired but the QB play has also gotten me worried as of late. Go Bucs! Maybe next year!

  6. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Zion lost the game with his neutral zone infraction before halftime. He solely changed the scoreboard from a field goal to a touchdown. Four point differential due to his mental mistake. He got bored and cost his team a victory.

  7. Bucfan21 Says:

On the bright side (and there aren’t many) we don’t have to read comments this week whining about what Cade Otton chooses to wear on his hands

  8. Surfing The Waivers Says:

This loss is on everyone in creamsicle to a certain extent.

But the worst consistent through line is the defense and the the poor special teams play.

Grizzard and and banged up Baker and Oline and WR core and Bucky didn’t help either.

Hoping the Glazers will make wise and prudent decisions going forward to improve the future.

    Namaste

  9. StormyInFl Says:

    3rd and 28
    4th and 14

That’s on ReTodd and his miserable useless defense.

  10. BucfaninMi Says:

What complete waste. Why should I watch? The players clearly don’t care. The coach just stands there, no fire at all! Utterly embarrassing

  11. callingoutthelies Says:

Munch is right, If Baker is hurt then he should sit but imagine under the bridge in there. Baker seemed out of sorts for the past 2 weeks but he is all we have now. Maybe they can beg Trask back. Sorry….. Just kidding. I still think for next year Bowles must go. He is really a bad head coach. Nice guy bad head coach. Go bucs

  12. MadMax Says:

14 scored in the 2nd, 15 scored in the 4th….I like you Bake, but no, im not laying off the D and todd, and neither should anyone….lets be intelligent here.

  13. Bucs Reality Check Says:

    BOWLES HAS GOT TO GO.

The reality is, we squeaked out so many close games early in the season. We should probably be sitting at like 5-9 right now.

The fact that they cut Trask in favor of Bridgewater is also ridiculous.

With Trask, at least you had a guy with some upside potential that could have played some when Mayfield was banged up. Instead, you have Mayfield under pressure to feel like he has to play no matter how hurt he is.

    OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR = FAILING GRADE
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR (BOWLES) = FAILING GRADE
    HEAD COACHING = FAILING GRADE
    SPECIAL TEAMS = FAILING GRADE

Glazers needs to CLEAN HOUSE and rebuild the entire coaching staff.

  14. I Remember 21 Says:

Unfortunately for Baker & todd, it’s really hard to control the narrative when people can see what’s happening with their own eyes. This defense has been cheeks since before he was here. That being said, Baker is doing what MANY other players (and coaches) should be doing and shouldering the blame for his shortcomings. Not in a vague, passive way, but in a specific “here’s how I screwed up” kind of way. The next part of that SHOULD be “here’s what I’m doing to fix it,” but I guess we’re taking baby steps. Either that or he doesn’t have any answers either.

  15. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

So…Baker is now 27-24 here. 10-6 vs NFC South. 17-18 vs everyone else. Every year has a losing record against teams over 500. 1-9 in prime time games. He is like 8-17 vs pro bowl QBs and that’s not including his 1-3 record vs Kirk Cousins. He ended your last 2 playoff runs with a turnout. I’ll be fair. Detroit was a better team, better QB and at home. But that loss to Washington was inexcusable. A rookie QB with inferior offensive weapons and a WORSE defense (look it up) came to your stadium and pimp slapped you in his first playoff game. ANY and I mean ANY veteran QB with 50-75 or more starts would put up numbers with this team if they threw the ball 35 times a game over 17 games. Flacco,Brissett or whoever. A guy like Herbert would make them a 13-15 win juggernaut. Especially in this division. Throw all that in and Baker is 31 and cannot play from the pocket. Remember, since he came into the leauge he is the MOST inaccurate QB of all the ones with 100 or more starts since he came into the leauge in 2018. A younger, cheaperQb with a higher upside is not a luxury pick. It should be top priority

  16. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

Baker is 27-24 here. 10-6 vs NFC South,17-18 vs the rest of the league. Every year has a losing record vs winning teams..1-9 in prime time. 8-17 vs pro bowl QBs and that’s NOT including 1-3 vs Cousins because he is not a current/recent pro bowler. On a personal note: his time here he is 19th, 3rd and currently like 29th in completion percentage. Since he entered the league in 2018, of ALL the QBs with 100 or more starts Baker has the LOWEST completion percentage. Tell me again going back to 2023 he’s second on TD passes and I’ll tell you Jared Goff is first on tds and yards and Goff is exponentially better then Baker,he’s just boring and not as popular but that shows the problem with volume stats. What I will say about Goff also is he complied those numbers while going 35-12 in the Brutal NFC North. I don’t care about volume stats when your playing catch up ball against prevent defenses. I’ve seen Baker get so many garbage yards and tds these past 3 years. And this is the best Baker will ever be……

  17. Nick Houllis Says:

I challenge anyone to tell me these linebackers are playing at the same level as the linebackers in 2020 including Lavonte David. meanwhile blame it on the DC who is the same DC as 2020. hmmm. GET SOME LINEBACKERS, and RBS won’t cut through our D

  18. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

Something to chew on: Alex Smith/Mahomes in 2017, Flacco/Lamar in 2018. Wentz/Hurts in 2020, Rogers/Love in 2020. Wentz was 26 and coming off a 4000 yard,27td/7int ,9-7 division winning year in 2019. First time in history a QB had 4000 yards and not one wide out to get 500 yards. His leading rusher had 800 yards, did they baby him? No. They drafted Hurts in the second round 3 months after the season. Greenbay traded up to take Jordan Love and Rogers was 36 and coming off a great season and that’s AROD. Baltimore traded up for Lamar 5 years after Flacco won the SB and had obe of the best SB runs ever.Im.sorry, one wildcard win in 3 years is not enough of a sentimental attachment to put off the obvious. I still think we win the division this year but it’s obvious what needs to be done.

  19. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

Keeps getting deleted but Baker is 27-24 here. 1-9 in prime time games. 8-17 vs pro bowl QBs and that’s not including a 1-3 record vs Kirk cousins. 10-6 vs NFC South, 17-18 vs the rest of the league. Every year losing record vs teams over 500. Since he came in the league (2018) he ihas the LOWEST competition % of ANY QB with at least 100 starts. Y’all know how the last 2 playoffs ended. Fun fact: The Washington Commanders defense gave up more points then our defense did in 2024, yet their rookie QB led them to the NFC title game.

  20. Adam Says:

    Bring on Belichick!

  21. MadMax Says:

This season is over, but Bake is still my guy…but we need someone in the wings waiting. Sawyer Robertson. I thought we could wait for the 3rd or 4th rd but it needs to be a 2nd. I see what i see…dont hate.

    Sonny Styles 1st, Sawyer 2nd.

We need a legit bu to Baker…and to take over if the time comes….

    You paying attention Jason?

  22. Saskbucs Says:

    Yes Baker you sucked.

    The D also sucked.

I always bash conservative play calling around here and I gotta rewatch this 2nd half to fully grasp what all happened but probably should have been running the ball when Baker threw his pick.

Amazing that we lost 2 tie to the offense fumbles. Looked to me like the Bucs had both.

Why did Todd accept the penalty to give them another down!? 10 yards is useful to be sure but 3rd and 18 is pretty good. Make the D stop 2 plays instead of 3.

And then you put the blitz away. 4 man rush has been useless for the better part of the season. Against Cousins… it’s rush 3 or send 6. Should have been no in between, especially late.

  23. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

Madmax: it’s not over due to the putrid nature of the division. IF Carolina lose we back in first. Even if they win if we beat them were back in first. I am worried about their moment I’m and having a energetic, vibrant HC but they are very inconsistent. Season far from over, if it were any other division it would be. If Carolina loses this weekend they would need to sweep us. I don’t see that but these are 2 deflating losses.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

Stop with the excuses for Baker Mayfield he is who is at this point of his career. He’s not a Superbowl type of quarterback and it’s just time to admit it. He had all of his weapons and most of those sacks were on him holding on the ball to long. And this defense is trash to time for Bowles to go. No more excuses!!!

  25. eoschwartz Says:

Baker let them back into the game. Baker has looked like a losing QB since the BYE. He isn’t getting rid of the ball and his happy feet show his fundamentals have gone backwards.

Bowles has lost the defense. They don’t play hard enough for him. They have fallen towards the bottom of the league in most defensive categories and after 14 games that unit has shown no improvement.

Bowles has written his own pink slip. Mayfield will have to satisfy next coach to decide on what QB makes sense for rebuild

  26. Gipper Says:

    3rd/38
    4th/14

To hang this on Mayfield is absurd. This defense would stink in a jr high game. The defense has been nonexistent for 3 years.

  27. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

Gipper your delusional in 2023 the defense was 7th in points allowed and 5th in turnovers LOL. Tell me your a casual without telling me your a casual. Last year the Commanders defense gave up MORE points then ours in the regular season and then went on to allow OVER 35 PPG in the playoffs YET their ROOKIE QB keep them to the NFC title game. It’s hysterical you Baker bros blame the defense for why we didn’t do squat last year ,yet a ROOkIE QB with a worse defense for his team to the final 4. And there will be more then one team in the playoffs with a defense that allows more points then ours. Wait until this weekend ends and everyone has played 14 games. Also, all INTs are not the same. When, where you throw them. If your leading or not. I can point to the Buffalo game. Not due to him but the team almost had 200 yards rushing thru 3 quarters and Baker threw a momentum changing picks. He did last week and last night too. All 3 times we were winning and all 3 of those ked to points to relinquish the lead. Facts Gipper.

  28. Farmer Says:

The defense gave up nearly 400 yards and 3 TDs to Cousins, a guy who lost his starting job to Penix. How is this not on the defense?

  29. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

He throws crucial picks and let the other team in the game. Buffalo. We were winning. He throws a pick, they get the ball at our 25. Next play,TD. They have the lead. Never gave it back up. Game over. Last week, Baker threw a pick, they get it back at midfield. Score, they retake the lead. The pick tonight ket them back in the game. I’m not absolving the defense but the the QB plays a role. He’s a inaccurate, sub.500 well tracked journeyman for a reason. He doesn’t make winning plays regularly

  30. Erickson Cobb Carrier Says:

And how come our QB never lights anyone up? He was good against Houston, Seattle, 49ers. The rest of the year he’s been Cleveland Baker

  31. Rod Munch Says:

He’s more honest than the Baker Boi(s), so give him that.

With that said – Bucs still control their own destiny – win out and there in. The offense did look better until the INT, and the defense was down multiple DBs who might be back next week.

I know everyone wants to be doom and gloom and throw a fit – but that’s boring if all that’s all people are doing. So I throw out a message of hope – mainly because it will further trigger the nut job idiots that didn’t even read to this part, they’re already rage typing I’m an idiot. lol.

  32. Jameis Says:

Bye Baker. Bye Todd. Bye division championship.

    Pudgy clowns.

  33. Td Says:

It’s noble Baker wants to shoulder the blame. However Bowles has had a horrible defense for years. It’s on Bowles now. He’s gotta go

  34. heyjude Says:

So happy Baker is our QB. It was heartbreaking at the end of the game when he was on the bench and even he couldn’t watch the last Atlanta field goal, and then the look on his face when he did. We were all right there with him, feeling the same too. Hearts sinking. It was a terrible loss. But we fans are not giving up. Go Bucs!

  35. Boltsfan17 Says:

Mayfield has shown who he is. An endearing tough team guy that covers up his deficiencies. No way should Licht open the Glazer vault for him. He’s. Never been THE guy and he never will be.

  36. Gofortheface30 Says:

Proud “Baker boi” here. Anyway, here is an undisputed fact/reality: The Bucs with Joe Burrow in a hypothetical world become a completely different team over night. Yes, Bowles needed to be gone yesterday, and that entire defense should be living on the street – but that offense becomes the most fun in the NFL. And this is the difference between having a guy that can occasionally go on a heater for a few games, and a guy whose baseline is at that level. The reality is that, yes, Mayfield has likely regressed back to the mean. Yes, he has played his way out of a 300 million dollar contract or whatever. The Bucs have sooooo many holes on defense, along with some sort of lockerroom ROT in general that putting on a new coat of paint is not working. This iteration of Bucs – I’m over it. This whole thing needs to be done. There needs to be a new identity, new philosophy from top to bottom

  37. MikeBuc Says:

“Baker if you are hurt then don’t play. I love you as a player but you had multiple weapons on the Browns and failed ”

Pure nonsense…baker succeeded at the brown and played a year hurt with everyone knowing it and had surgery after the season. Get your facts straight.

  38. Dave Says:

    Absolutely 💯 Baker’s fault…again.

  39. BucU Says:

I absolutely despise the 2025 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. F all of them.

  40. MikeBuc Says:

    Oneilbuc Says:

He’s not a Superbowl type of quarterback and it’s just time to admit it.
    —-

LOL….no one has to admit anything because you say so. Your’reone of the guys that claimed Trask was the answer to a super bowl so you have no credentials. Where is he? Oh wait He PLAYS FOR ATLANTA and they didn’t even call him up against a team he knew the defense of …even with a near 40 QB

    lololol

Baker has had ONE GAME with a decent receiver crew (but still a poor line) and the offense already looks better. Bad news for you if he plays out well with everyone getting ten days rest he aint going nowhere

its not like its the first time you have called for him gone and been ignored.

  41. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Mac Jones, Marcus Mariota, Geno Smith, Jimmy Garappalo, Kyler Murray, Anthony Richardson, DeSean Watson. A rookie.

Want to get rid of Baker? Your 2026 starting QB is one of those you will have to pay after the cap hit from cutting Baker.

    No thanks.

  42. Soapman Says:

Hey John McKay. What do you think of the execution of this team in the Creamsicle uniforms?

  43. Oneilbuc Says:

Mike buc. Baker ain’t it the bucs got to find his replacement this year and I don’t care about what you say. Again he turned over the ball in late in the 4th quarter just like he did last year in the playoffs against Washington. You Baker fan boys are a trip lol 🤣🤣 the bucs ain’t winning nothing with Baker Mayfield. I’ve given him his credit when he played good and I gave him a pass when he has had bad games but now it’s been 6 bad games in a row he ain’t it him or Bowles.

  44. Bee Says:

    MikeBuc

Trask lives rent free in your head bro. Lmao. Baker had his team up 2 scores then promptly threw a pick then missed EE by throwing behind him. He missed Evans on a walk-in TD as well.

Face facts Baker fans, hes not good and he was always average. The 4th quarter performance last night from Bake we saw in the Detroit playoff game and the Washington playoff game. Turnover then not sustaining a drive to ice the game. Baker is cheeks and hes a few steps closer to losing with another franchise.

  45. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

The Mac Jones fan club is really feeling themselves today.

    Baker made two bad plays.

The defense made two plays the entire game. Might want to start there.

  46. Bonan Says:

When EVERYTHING seems to be wrong with a team, you got to look at the top. Bowles and Licht. Bowles OR Licht?

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

Mayfield is a standup guy and someone fans want to root for.
He did stink in the 4th quarter and he knows this team depends on the offense to win.
He’s right, it is largely on him.

  48. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Don’t want anyone to think I have some huge pedestal for Baker. Yes I like him and think he is a good qb. No he’s not top 5 or anything like that. Also, worse qbs than him have won rings. You can’t tell me Eli was any better.

I will stand 100% that he is better than anyone who could reasonably be acquired to start next year. Don’t forget, that contract is guaranteed next year.

  49. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“This loss is absolutely on the defense and, in particular, the defensive coordinator who still hasn’t learned to hatch a defense to stop Kirk freaking Cousins.”

Situational football says, if you have a 28-20 lead and the ball, and you’re athletically and mechanically limited QB throws a pick instead of leading a drive for 3 or 7 points that’d give you a two possession lead, it’s on him for failing to do so.

Grizz gets some blame too. Up 28-20 and on the drive that ended up in a INT we threw the ball with an 8 point lead with under 1- FOUR TIMES IN A ROW!!!

Yes the defense lost it in the end, but they shouldn’t have been on the field when they were if the offense did their MF’n job and put us up 2 possessions.

I want Sheduer Sanders, idgaf if we gotta send a few day 2 picks and a play, we need MORE CAPABILITY from the pocket. Not everybodys’ favorite psuedo-bad ass

  50. Kenton Smith Says:

Bee. “he’s a few steps closer to losing with another franchise”. So the Glazer’s are stupid because you are stupid?

  51. Bucs4Ever Says:

It was a beautiful night for football. The weather was amazing. The halftime show was great. The creamsickle T-shirts were fabulous.

    Then the stink began.
Coach, OC, and defense need to be replaced. It is on the defense and everyone else.
Watching Baker, I think he is more injured than anyone is letting on. He can’t run and his throws are inaccurate. I doubt it’s just the shoulder….hard to say.

When we were driving out, my wife and I saw a small boy with his Dad, dressed up in his “bucs gear”, sad face, head down. That’s the fan I feel sorry for. Glazers: Do the RIght Thing. Bowles = gone.

  52. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Oh: GRIZZ Gone also.

  53. DBS Says:

The defense shouldn’t have given up 29 points to begin with. The interception was at the same place most teams begin to start . The defense can’t stop anyone. Baker didn’t play his best fine. But a team that puts up 28 points should win a game. But this team has a bad Coach and totally useless defense.

  54. Kenton Smith Says:

And any of you all who are positive Bowles will be gone? I’m going to have to say with our OLine and receivers being so injured this year that Todd gets next year no matter what happens. Hopefully that means you meatheads will continue whining like little babies for at least another year. We finally got Mike and Chris healthy and with JMac and Egbuka it’s a matter of time until Baker and our receivers get synchronized. 10 days from now we could easily beat Carolina and then we’ll beat them again. You whiny know it alls don’t know nothing.

  55. Gofortheface30 Says:

Kenton – 1. Every team is dealing injuries. 2. You are very conveniently leaving out the defense. Why. I would love to hear an explanation on that. What kind of a person does it take to actually be ok with the same thing happening with their defense EVERY-SINGLE-YEAR. You cannot talk around it, you cannot defend it. There is no intelligent angle to support years of making bad quarterbacks look like hall of famers. And you’re over acting here like the season is saved because we a few receivers back? This is an incredible take. There is also a serious locker room issue, that ALSO falls on the coaching staff. This is way bigger and deeper than getting some guards and receivers back. I wish your brain can be studied so we can understand how it’s possible to be this dumb, holy crap

  56. Larrd Says:

The offensive line was bad and Grizzard cannot make a series of calls that gets the offensive in a rhythm. Maybe next week, with all the receivers settling in.

Izien caused a fumble but was burned all night. Vilder sucked, too. Depth has been poor all season. Worst group of linebackers in the league.

  57. bucsfaninva Says:

So, I know I’ll get some grief but I am still going to say…it. To me, Baker has gone into a shell because of the O-line’s DISMAL play. Period. He’s developed (or had) a bad habit of just working to stand up to pass. Looked like he was lost in the woods, but it seemed to me like he got some of his courage back during the game with ME13 and JMac back. Now, was it perfect. Not by a long shot. The interception was painful in many respects, but that didn’t cost them the game. My ire is much more directed towards the defense, DC, and HC. When ATL just kept doing the same couple of plays and Tampa just had ZERO answers it says all you need to know. So much blame to go around though.

    So many things to fix.

  58. LANshark Says:

    Hmm,

Just pointing something out… “Ultimate franchise QB Pat Mahomes” looks entirely human this season. GOAT Tom Brady looked entirely human in 2023. What was the common factor in both declines? THEIR O LINE STUNK. And right now, with 2 starters missing, and not having the entire starting line for even one game this season, the same is true of 2025 TB.

Baker is working miracles with an oline that is makeshift at best. Last night, several times, he barely got to the top of his drop when he was forced to move due to pressure from up the middle. In other words, the D-line got to his spot as fast as he did…

No, Baker didn’t have a great game. But put the blame where it belongs. We didn’t even SLOW UP their pass rush let alone stop it.

  59. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    Baker is 100% correct.

Those 2 plays were the difference in us winning or losing that game.

The INT and that 3rd down pass to Egbuke on the last drive that was behind him and got deflected as a result.

Terrible execution in the clutch. And I’m a Baker fan, but much less so over the 2nd half of this season. He’s been pretty bad since our 6-2 start.

  60. Bucsfan24 Says:

How about we blame the refs too. Despite Atlanta trying to give us the game, the refs giving the ball to the falcons on the strip sack was dam near criminal! Tied possession at the bottom of a pile where the bucs defense clearly came out of the scrum with the ball!? I mean come on man…

  61. BucsFan2 Says:

Pathetic display of fair-weather fans here.

I completely disagree with anyone that thinks the problems in this game or the season are due to Baker.

    Regarding this game.
    1. Falcons are a very good defense.
    2. Our oline can’t protect. Baker has covered up for this most of the year. But, between injuries and teams now covering his escape lanes it has gotten harder.
    3. Overall Baker has played panicked as number 2 has happened, that’s normal. No QB plays at the top of their game under this kind of duress and uncertainty.
    4. He made one mistake with the pick, but it was an amazing play, tip your hat to the defense. Check the stat lines, great QBs are throwing 2-3 or more picks per game. The beloved Burrow? Two picks last game, including one to lose it. Mahomes? has sucked this year. last game 3 picks no TDs.

The problem on offense this season.
    1. Zero health or continuity on Oline all year. Any QB would struggle with this. Take your pick of QBs.
    2. Zero continuity or health of WRs this year. Any QB would struggle with this. Take your pick of QBs.
    3. Rookie OC, that has done ok, but not good enough to ride out these massive injuries.
    4. As I said, Baker did an amazing job to start the season, and has done well under the circumstances as the season progressed, but eventually it catches up with you.
    5. Take a look at the QBs that have been successful this year. Stafford and Darnold…they are standing like statues for 10 secs with no pressure and throwing to all pro WRs that are open and have been healthy all year. Neither, would do as good as Baker with the this crap show.
    6. Our Receivers drop critical passes, or if you are Cade Otton, hand the other team interceptions.

If we cut Baker, get ready to be the Browns or Titans.

Oh, BTW get the 2000’s Ram offense and you’ll lose with this D. Give up 24 and 29 points to the Shough and Cousins led Saints and Falcons…a joke.

  62. eoschwartz Says:

When the bright lights come on at RayJay the Bucs show their deficiencies to all of the football fans watching across the country. The people who are watching that don’t have a vested interest in the Bucs as fans and local media can call it out like it is.

The fact is 2 consecutive home games vs teams already eliminated from the playoffs outplayed a Bucs team that was in control of its own destiny. Neither the Saints nor the Falcons had any incentives to outplay the Bucs and both did. What does that say about Buc players preparation? About using the home crowd’s energy to elevate their play to knock off these loser Saints and Falcons with backup quarterbacks and missing key offensive weapons?

These loses show that these Bucs were unprepared and were whipped by unmotivated teams that outplayed and outexecuted the home team in all aspects of the game.

It is pathetic that the Bucs defense cannot execute a defensive game plan to allow a rejected quarterback Kirk Cousins, who is now been elevated by the Todd Bowles coached defense to Dan Marino/John Elway status vs Bowles sad pass defenses to rip up a Buc defense with playoffs on the line in key 4th quarter meltdowns.

The collapse of the 2025 Bucs was will be solely attributed to Todd Bowles and his inability to implement a game plan designed to stop his opponents from making explosive plays in the final minutes of games against inferior teams.

Bowles has failed to stop this collapse and these back to back losses at home with everything to play for will be looked back in Bucs history as chokes similar to the Colts debacle on MNF when Bucs had a 3 score lead with less than 5 minutes to play and allowed Peyton Manning to tear them apart.

Last night was deja vu and it Kirt Cousins showing that he belongs in the Ring Of Honor as a reminder of how he dug up the ghost of Peyton Manning tearing up the Bucs secondary in the historic loss at Ray Jay.

This loss is right up there in the Den Of Depression’s Hall Of Shame moments in this 50th Anniversary of Buccaneer football.

Thank you Todd Bowles for this historic memory of losing 2 consecutive home games to teams that were falling apart and came into RayJay with no reason to show up but you let Buc fans and your team down by handing them victories with your lack of adjustments and bad clock management and not keeping your teams focus on playing its best football in November/December.

That’s on ReTodd and his miserable useless defense.

    EXACTLY.

We can and should blame Mayfield for giving Atlanta 6 points (although, the defense could have, ya know, maybe just gotten a stop?). But he’s not to blame for the other 9 points they gave up, including converting from 3rd and fickin 28!!!!!

Todd’s pass defense has sucked for a long, long time.

  64. ChiBuc Says:

So by the apologists standard, it is ok for a QB to let down his team, as long as the defense is a bigger letdown? Both FAILED. Baker could have won the game….uh, much like Cousins did for his team. And the Defense could have won the game, but that record has been broken for 3 yrs

  65. Mobucs Says:

You guys are right to dump on Baker, He shouldn’t have thrown those two passes. A team ahead by two, or even one, score in the fourth quarter should not be throwing the ball. It should be running the ball. During Bucky’s absence, Tucker and White became serviceable tough yard runners and decent receivers. Yet the Bucs insisted on running Bucky up the middle, as if it were the opening series and they were testing out the opposition. Put White and Tucker in there together, so neither can be keyed alone and the threat of a Baker rollout or keeper is there. 3, 4, maybe 5 yards a pop gets you down the field and bleeds the clock.
Unrelated: Baker’s throwing an interception on the opponents’ thirty yard line is not as bad as Bijan’s coughing it up on his own twenty-five. Haven’t heard any criticism of that.

The OC is callng the play. And they should have been runs with Tucker or White. Not Bucky.

But we have week 6 MVP at QB, why in the world would you ever want to take the ball out of his hands?

  68. Oscar Says:

In the case of the Bucs that’s the only thing you can do when you actually lose yardage when you have to be able to run the ball in those 4 minute offense situations and you have a defense that….. well you all saw what happened.
