Bucs Respond To Luke Goedeke Complaint

December 11th, 2025

Man, the Bucs sure moved quickly once right tackle Luke Goedeke went public with his beef.

(Attention, Todd Bowles haters. Don’t get your hopes up. You don’t have Goedeke’s level of sway.)

Goedeke moaned last week on the Buccaneers Radio Network about how the Bucs don’t have 160-pound dumbbells in the team weight room. Apparently, Goedeke has complained about this for a long time. Joe wrote about it and noted former Bucs defensive tackle Will Gholston was in on the interview and verified Goedeke has long barked about the Bucs only having dumbbells up to 150 pounds.

“That’s been a nook in my craw for a while, for years now,” Goedeke said. “We need to get heavier dumbbells here.”

Joe asked where was management in all this, especially the strength coach.

Well, the answer came this week.

The Bucs’ chief strength and conditioning coach Anthony Piroli hopped on the Buccaneers Radio Network and brought a receipt, literally, to show he orderded the dumbbells.

“Luke’s dumbbells will be on their way,” Piroli said.

Piroli said the dumbbells in the Bucs’ weight room will now go up incrementally to 175 pounds. He added they won’t be named after Goedeke and implied that’s because he’s not strongest on the team.

    160 lbs. Jeez.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

i guess they wanted to make sure luke would be here a few years to use them….why else would they wait so long lol…if heavier dumbbells will help luke get better, why not make it happen asap lol…

makes me wonder how many others things, equipment or nutrition wise that players have asked for to help them get better and they were denied…

    whatever lol….

    #beatdabirds

    GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Nutterbuccer Says:

Who’s strongest ? Wirfs / vea / or Simmons…. gotta be one of them

  4. SB~LV Says:

Can’t they just get a harness for Tez ?

  5. Jeff Says:

Sad it came to this. Small issue, but signs a sign of incompetence with the Bucs’ coaches. They take after their HC and “know it all.”

  6. Todd Says:

Or perhaps Coaches were told by pencil pushers that two Rogue Urethane 160lb bells at over 2500$ was ridiculous just make do with the 150lb we have.

Some further direct questions on this subject would be excellent by media.

  7. Frank Pillow Says:

Embarrassing. Maybe this is why we’re so Charmin Ulta Soft on the field.

  8. Steven007 Says:

What Todd said. These dumbbells certainly aren’t a necessity. One to two more reps with the 150s is basically the equivalent. And there are very very few exercises you’re using for these. Anyways. Possibly dumbbell rows. Maybe incline press. Again, 10 lb lighter and more reps and you’re good. Silly argument, the whole thing.

  9. Sly Pirate Says:

I threw my back out just thinking about a 160lbs dumbbell

  10. HC Grover Says:

They could just use Bowles he is at least a 150 lb dumbbell.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    That’s funny.

    This was just good-hearted ribbing.

  12. It's Corn Says:

Maybe this was supposed to be a fun thing, but to me it smacks of organizational incompetence.

  13. Zoocomics Says:

I get these guys are monsters, but depending on the exercise, if you have ever seen someone fling over large dumbbells of that size on a press, it’s terrifying.

Anyone who has played organized seasonal team sports, “usually” you’re not trying to put in gains while playing, it’s more so maintenance, that’s probably why 150lb dumbbells has been enough…I sure as hell hope someone is there to assist him.

Go for 200 ….for Luke the Lifter

  16. SB~LV Says:

    Complaining 😆😆😆😆😆
He should have seen the outdoor concrete slab at the Bucs original practice facility. The Hall of Fame joint next to TPA 😆😆😆

  17. Marine Buc Says:

Go figure – the only Buc to wear a “guardian cap” has to prove how strong he is…

    Overcompensating much?

    LOL!

Just shut up and stay healthy for once.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Season saved!

  19. Beeej Says:

Wow, I only weigh a few pounds more than that

  20. Kenton Smith Says:

“Just shut up and stay healthy for once”. Ouch! I like Luke. Marine Buc, perhaps you oughta try hitting the rack again this morning and rolling off the other side.

  21. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I weigh 175 lbs. These guys could pick up Tez Johnson in one hand and me in the other. That’s strength. Too bad it hasn’t been enough the last few weeks.

  22. Mobucs Says:

A “nook in my craw”? I must have missed that idiom in ESL class. Can someone clarify?

  23. PewterStiffArm Says:

Why doesn’t he just use Tez Johnson!

  24. garro Says:

Millions are spent on making this a model NFL franchise. A player like Luke should not have to ask for anything twice! Now Piroli seems to still be taking it very lightly? Dude! You are being a fool! My high school had only one set of wieghts and one bench press machine that was way out of date. Not sure who was behind it but…By the next season we had a state of the art weight room housed in our gym. They found the money.

  25. Kayla Says:

Luke is my favorite Buc. He’ll anchor and lead this line even after Wirfs is gone. Hope he plays for 15 seasons.

  26. David Says:

If only they acted this fast to find ILBs that can cover and consistent edge rushers.

  27. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Kenton

Even when healthy Luke is merely a mediocre RT…

Sorry to be the bearer of realistic news.

  28. Fred McNeil Says:

Not to put Luke down, but I’m pretty sure that he is going to follow in the footsteps of Ali Marpet and retire after 2 or 3 seasons with premium pay. As long as he plays hard for those 2 or 3 years I can’t really blame him, I guess.

  29. buccintimeforchanges Says:

A player has to go public to get some heavier dumbbells?

Please fire Jason Licht and everyone underneath him. They all stink of mediocrity.

    ^^^^^^^^

Is this the same Jeff who predicted the Falcons to go 13-4? Hahahahaha

  31. Jack Sparrow Says:

Why only now,,,,,, this should have been addressed during training camp. Looks like a lot of knuckleheads in the Bucs locker room starting from HC down to strength and conditioning coach…… no wonder this team is a joke !

  32. UGotRobbed Says:

If I would have known that he needed 160lb dumbbells…I would have let him borrow mine…lol

  33. MelvinJunior Says:

Seriously!? That is what HE is most concerned with and worries HIM most!? An extra 10 freaking POUNDS on each… From 150lbs. to 160lbs. If that’s the case, then why doesn’t HE just go out and buy them and pay for them HIMSELF. Problem SOLVED. I’m pretty sure HE could afford them after just signing his extension. Ridiculous. I hope this was not really serious, and a lot more tounge-in-cheek.

  34. Brandon Says:

150 isn’t nearly enough for NFL players… I’ve done the 150s for six despite weighing under 190 lbs. brasho30 on IG if you don’t believe me.

    ————

Yeah, I hear you, same for me… well, except I generally do 150s for eight, to warm up. But hey, for under 190, that’s great.

Attention JBF: Stop with this “Todd Bowles haters” crap, Comments are being directed at Head Coach Todd Bowles and it has nothing to do with “hating” the man. Jerks.

  37. 941bucsfan Says:

I promise you the patriots didnt win 6 superbowls because they had 160lb pound dumbbells. As a matter of fact the bucs won a couple superbowls without 160lb dumbbells. Rage bait post

Oh God, it was just a fun story you dope.

  39. HeavyE Says:

This is what it has come too? We are more concerned with dumbbells, than Wins?
this team is entirely too SOFT!!! Thanks Jason & Todd!!!! Oh yeah and I can’t forget about our SIX captains……We should be ASHAMED!!!! Go Bucs!!!

Literally no one said that or implied that you drama queen.

  41. Kenton Smith Says:

I think it wouldn’t make any difference if the dumbbell was 150 or 160, if you dropped it on Rod Munch’s toe that he would holler like a baby. Don’t know what would make me think of something like that. Oh well. It’d be hysterical.
