Bucs Reach Desperation Level In Signing Jason Pierre-Paul

December 9th, 2025

Panic.

The last we saw of Jason Pierre-Paul, he packed up his belongings in his downtown Tampa condo and watched the moving company haul them away. JPP then climbed aboard a private jet and left Tampa seemingly for good, laughing hysterically, waving goodbye to Tampa from hundreds of feet in the sky.

All of which was documented on his Instagram account.

As JPP hovered high above the Tampa area, JPP hollered, waving at the Tampa skyline, referring to the Tampa Bay area as a “hoe” while doubled over in laughter.

Guess JPP is back for more.

The Bucs pushed the panic button Monday, signing JPP to the cherished practice squad. If you haven’t heard much from JPP in recent years, it is because he hasn’t done much in recent years.

In 2022, JPP had three sacks for the Crows. That’s the last time he’s done anything. In 2023, JPP played for both the slimy Saints and the Dolphins and had a grand total of three tackles.

This is about as desperate as it gets.

Last year the Bucs panicked and reached back in their glorious Super Bowl past to bring Shaq Barrett out of mothballs. Shaq was done.

So this year the Bucs went back to their glorious Super Bowl past to bring back JPP. Joe expects similar results.

Back in 2018, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht pulled off one of the greatest heists in Bucs history giving up a third-round pick for JPP. Not quite three years later, JPP and the Bucs were chugging champagne.

Anyone know if Ndamukong Suh is looking for work? Or maybe the Bucs will wait until next year for that transaction?

Bucs coach Todd Bowles must be feeling the heat.

Look, Joe loves JPP and thinks outside of acquiring Tom Brady and Bucco Bruce Arians, the best move Licht ever made was coughing up a third-round pick for an honest-to-goodness, proven first-class edge rusher.

But, we all have a shelf life. And JPP, as a valuable edge rusher, is way past his expiration date.

This has all the makings of a desperate act of a desperate coach.

Could he be any worse than what we have now?

  2. Delusional Intelligence Says:

Ndamukong Suh was already contacted by LVD earlier in the season when Cancey went down. Ndamukong Suh was on the Green Light Podcast earlier this year and told Senor Long about it.

  3. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Johnny..

Yes, yes he could and for all the world to see .

Bud Licht just jumped the shark.

  4. Truth be Told Says:

Perfectly good time to panic. Move to improve the putrid pass defense should’ve been done along the way and not counted on Reddick to come in and be the savior. This team‘s pass defense stinks anything they can do to improvement is welcome.

  5. Danfan Says:

The time to deal third-round picks for proven edge rushers was at the trade deadline. Licht, for all the credit he gets for previous moves, has a shocking record at drafting an edge rusher – Diaby still unknown what he will be after a couple of years in the system, Braswell invisible. It looks quite likely more picks will be used on the pass rush, not sure why we didn’t trade away one of those for someone proven to be better than what we have.

Per the article, Shaq didn’t end up doing much for us, and JPP will be much the same. I know its only the practice squad he’s been signed too, but the optics of it, given we didn’t do anything during the trade window, really makes the front office look unimaginative, unwilling to take even a little bit of ‘risk’ on trading picks for proven talent, and now grasping at straws.

  6. Danfan Says:

I forgot to add fan favorite JTS to that list of average drafted pass rushers.

  7. Jmarkbuc Says:

Licht doesn’t/didn’t make trades because he doesn’t want his wacky culture exposed to someone from the outside.

Any defensive player coming in here would be like “ what is this 💩 y’all are running “

  8. Joe Says:

Could he be any worse than what we have now?

Yes! JPP has zero sacks the past three seasons. At least Braswell has 2.5.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

When do we start a Simeon Rice watch?

  10. firethecannons Says:

Years ago we did not re-sign JPP as his knees were shot. He was no good at the end. How could he possibly be better now. Meanwhile Jaelan Phillips working now for Eagles is causing havoc in Chargers backfield. Jaelan Phillips was available but Bucs never made a move, Eagles did though. I like watching JPP though so it will be entertaining.

  11. MadMax Says:

They have truly given up. Even if JPP could be his former SB self, one player is not enough! Its like these guys are vacationing and partying all on the Glazer loot and dont really care anymore….just going through motions to do just enough. Im tired of it.

  12. Dhev Says:

The defense doesn’t believe in the beat up jalopy of a D that defensive coaching staff is selling. Bring JPP in as a new salesman on the floor. Maybe he can sell this Pinto as a Cadillac.

  13. Dadgumit Says:

Sad part is, who is standing out, that you are confident that can make a play WHEN NEEDED?

  14. Dhev Says:

The defense doesn’t believe in the beat up jalopy of a D that defensive coaching staff is selling. Bring JPP in as a new salesman on the floor. Maybe he can sell to the team this Pinto as a Cadillac.

  15. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Licht was told by the glazers…win or you’re gone

    JMHO

    This crew is donzo

  16. Itzok Says:

If we are going to sign an old washed up has been, couldn’t have been at least Lawrence taylor. This is dumb almost as dumb as bringing in a 600 pound loser from UF

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I honestly thought this was a joke when I first heard about this

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I completely disagree. While I doubt he’ll do much on the field, having him in the locker room can only be a positive thing.

  19. Cleanhouse Says:

Bring in JTS too- ge flashed and had some big plays for us. How bad could it be?

  20. FortMyersDave Says:

JPP will not play a down, I think Rod Munch has apoint in that the only value he has is to be a voice in the locker room and a loud one at that. However, as I said in an earlier post, Sapp spoke to the D once a few years ago and got blowback from guys like Devin White and Carlton Davis who basically blew the guy off and seemed angry that Sapp had the nerve to “disrespect their cred” or something to that effect. The punks tuned the old guy out despite the fact he has a gold jacket. JPP could get tuned out as well unless he gets physical with one of the loafers.

  21. buccintimeforchanges Says:

do not mention rod munch and he’ll disappear

  22. sethery Says:

if we’re doing this can we still get warren sapp?

  23. Teacherman Says:

He can play DE and DT in this defense.

I think his days as an OLB are over.

But he’s a great passing rushing DT.

And he is way better than Logan Hall at DE.

When I think about guys who play soft?

    I think of Logan Hall.

We also need to replace SVD with Deion Jones immediately!

Deion Jones is the only solution to the middle of the defense.

  24. Vodka & Milk Says:

Anyone know how much they’ll have to pay him?

  25. Nick77777 Says:

Hell out of all the old DE’s Simeon Rice looks like he can still play. Give him a call 😂

  26. Dtownva Says:

Embarrassing. I heard Michael Strahan might be available, let’s sign him! Cardiac Bucs, no. Geriatric Bucs, yes. I suspect the coaching carousel is beginning to spin in Tampa. Maybe we can get Belichick. I don’t know if he can still coach, but at least he’s old.

  27. Stat guy Says:

Don’t compare Jpp to Shaq. JPP is in better shape now than Shaq was when he played. Shaq was always out of shape

  28. Mach Says:

I personally feel kamara has some upside, probably better off swapping him in for reddixk or bracewell.

  29. Buc king Says:

I like jpp so I hope he makes the team…
As this point kicking tires is needed and he knows the defense and the players.
Depth is required after Reddick went down again.
Also he played for the enemies he may have some intel.

  30. gotbbucs Says:

Does his salary get categorized as coach or player on the P&L sheet moving forward?

  31. jw94buc Says:

I only see one man trying to save his own ass…

  32. DejaVu again Says:

I guess the Bucs have become a place for retired has beens to get a few more checks. The Bucs became a joke when they brought in Bridgewater. They realistically chose to have no backup QB. This is a slowly sinking ship that needs someone to step up and start bailing.

  33. RaShad Says:

Christian Wilkins is still out there. I know he’s better than the DT’s on the roster.

  34. Zoocomics Says:

This move was “lip service” for the fans. And from everything I’ve been reading in these posts and Bucs FB pages, not one person is falling for it.

They know there is a revolt in Tampa, and somehow this move by Licht is a distraction. I get JPP thrived in Bowles defense, so he is more turnkey than most out there other than Shaq, but this guy is spent, great player, but I cannot believe there wasn’t ANYONE else we could have taken a flyer on.

Most of you will blame Bowles for all that’s wrong with this team, but Licht deserves the lions share for drafting this mediocre roster. You fire Bowles, send Licht packing as well.

  35. Hodad Says:

The DTs on our roster aren’t DTs, that’s the problem. Made the mistake with Hall, now they’re following that up with Roberts. Hall, and Roberts are NOT DT’s! They are college 4-3 defensive ends! Both from small schools to boot! That’s the genius of Bowles, and Licht. Draft DEs, move them inside, and watch them struggle. Licht does the same thing with the O line. He drafts college OTs, and moves them inside to guard, center than watch them struggle. I get the idea of wanting to draft better athletes, and moving them inside, but it rarely works out well. We have two young DEs in Hall, and Roberts if we only played them as DEs. They just can’t do what we’re asking them to.

  36. Mhystc Says:

    Lol

  37. BucU Says:

The 2025 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially jumped the shark. I’m embarrassed to be a Buc fan today.

  38. Deez Says:

How is it desperation when he was signed to the practice squad………..yall are clowns lmao. Bucs fans are the worse.

  39. Zwak Says:

This is a joke right WTF are we doing

  40. Conte Piscatelli Says:

The only reason to bring JPP in is for leadership, I love LVD but he has never been a vocal, hold people accountable kind of leader

  41. Tucker Says:

This is very desperate move and the voice in the locker room lol thats funny ask the clippers how that went with Chris Paul these players don’t want to hear anything from someone who used to be good tell them anything as the walls are falling down around them.

  42. Obvious Says:

Good I’m glad we are seeing desperate moves. Not because I think it makes any difference this Thursday or for the remaining games, but at least it shows the seat is getting red hot and that us fans that watch the games are correct when we see there’s something wrong with the coach/player dynamic.

As many have pointed out it seems as if the players have tuned out Todd.

  43. Deez Says:

Bro he was signed to the practice squad, yall mf complain about everything.

  44. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“How is it desperation when he was signed to the practice squad………..yall are clowns lmao. Bucs fans are the worse.”

Agreed, not all or even most, but enough to notice lol

  45. MomBucsFan Says:

Love our super bowl champs!!! Anyway we need new coaches and best draft picks.. Bring on big changes in 2026. We will get over this…

Could he be any worse than what we have now?

Joe Says: Yes! JPP has zero sacks the past three seasons. At least Braswell has 2.5

But JPP did not even play last season and all Brass has is 2.5…. I think we all know that JPP was brought in for the DAWG mentality if we are being honest.

  47. Jim Hennessey Says:

So at the trade deadline the legend in his own mind GM does nothing but now that the dumpster fire has hit full he does this? This franchise is a joke.

  48. PSLBucfan Says:

Could this be a retirement thing? He did leave the Bucs to play for the ravens which would be his last team. Is he coming back to retire as a Buc and possibly help with getting the team focused on execution and passion? I find it hard to imagine he’s going to contribute much as a player at his age.

  49. jimmy Says:

    this is a joke right?

  50. BayouBullet Says:

The bucs can sign a 100 year old has been but couldn’t figure out how to keep Liam in the building. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see this franchise is going nowhere.

  51. Jmarkbuc Says:

    PSL

If that were the case, they would’ve signed them to a one day contract so he can retire. And they would’ve announced that.

This is straight up desperation, it’s embarrassing and adds insult to injury.

  52. Newbie Says:

I sure hope he can play on KO coverage team. Nothing can help this defense. It’s December. Desperate move by a desperate team that’s free falling.

  53. Cobraboy Says:

Unless it is to retire a Buc, just evidence of a five alarm dumpster fire at a refinery.

  54. Cobraboy Says:

Maybe Hardy Dickerson will come back and strengthen the muffler.

    /sarc

What a joke this team is becoming. Reminds me of how 5-dash-2 went…

  55. Hunter Says:

Seems there’s a difference of opinion between the Joe’s. I love this move to motivate the younger guys. No way he actually plays in a game. What this really says is that this Defense has NO leader. So they’re bringing in a proven leader.

  56. 813bucboi Says:

If bowles and licht had to bring in JJP to become a leader or produce sacks then, its over for bowles and should be for licht as well….

nothing against JPP but c’mon man….

bowles and licht sat on their hands at the trade deadline and did nothing….obviously, the staff hasnt developed any young players braswell, rameriz and watts for examples

desperation move that has come 6weeks too late

    GO BUCS!!!!

  57. firethecannons Says:

    JPP=penalty magnet

  58. BUDLIKEDTHEBUCS Says:

at least its past 7-4 dont have to worry about that

  59. View from 132 Says:

As a coach, right? They brought him to coach the practice squad?

  60. garro Says:

This is merely a diversion. We did not lose this one because of the edge rush alone. Todd would love to convince us of that one but… Even Braswell was in the stat sheet. This one was a group effort. On both sides of the ball. Lots of our dudes should be embarassed going to the bank this week.

    Go Bucs!

  61. BakerFan Says:

Licht is showing pathetic, desperation. Should of done something before draft deadline but has to hold on to draft picks over proven players. Time for the Glazers to clean house from GM down to Head Coach and let the new HC and GM decides who stays from there.

  62. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

    Agreed, this is a distraction.

    Release the files already. Lol!

  63. Ahoy down Says:

He will better than Reddick. Bookmark that

  64. Daniel Z Says:

When the Bucs signed Barrett, you could kind of understand it. He was still on an NFL roster and only retired at the start of the season, so would hace still been close to game ready. Even then, it was a reach. This? This is a team that hasn’t idea what it’s doing and is just throwing darts, hoping one hits. I hope it works, but I give it about a 5% chance of being helpful.

  65. Ed Says:

Is this an episode of “The Twilight Zone”? Rather weird.

  66. Bryan Says:

We have officially returned to the pre-Brady years Fire Licht and Bowles get those losers out of here

  67. UGotRobbed Says:

This franchise is turning into a joke…once again! They could have swung some trades to get some legit help, but sat on their asses! Is this the start of another “lost decade “!?
    TB is the real problem!

  68. stucbuc Says:

Ah, when Jason licht used to actually make great trades and give up draft picks. Not sure what he’s doing now a days. Sitting on his ass

  69. Destinjohnny Says:

Come on Jason get sapp and brooks too

  70. Capt.Tim Says:

    Always loved watching JPP
But didn’t know about his tasteless and brainless instagram stupidity.

    But, as always
Football is a first class game, played professionally by low class people.

Either way, it doesn’t matter. JPP is shot out. He’s done.

Our defense I’d destroying what could have been a great Season.
And the infuriating part is that every single resident of Tampa knew we needed to get a pass rusher. Yet Licht did nothing.
Hassan Reddick was just another Randy Gregory. A malcontent non contributor that was just a token gesture at addressing our defensive short comings.

It’s really hurt the team , more than the injuries

  71. Tony Says:

    @BuccInTimeForChanges

That would be nice if the Glazers would actually do something like that but all of them are to blame in a way for not doing anything whereas alot of the NFC playoff teams did & they’re still ahead of them. That’s why it’s hard to feel sorry for them sometimes because you really can’t when it’s as if you’re expecting change when you’re not really doing anything to change. Until they get out of that scheme/system on D I don’t think it’s gonna matter who they bring in because the same thing is probably gonna happen with it all.
