“It Felt Like We Just Gave It Away”

December 8th, 2025

Baker Mayfield escapes the clutches of three slimy Saints defenders Sunday.

Joe thinks there are bigger problems with the Bucs behind the scenes than the Bucs will ever admit publicly. The breadcrumbs are all out there to follow.

After the loss to New England, Baker Mayfield unloaded on his teammates for lacking a killer instinct.

Several times Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Mayfield was right on and praised Mayfield for trying to give the team a kick in the pants.

Two weeks later when the Rams seal-clubbed the Bucs in Los Angeles, Bucs iconic linebacker Lavonte David tore into his teammates for giving a half-arse effort.

The following week with the Bucs clinging to a three-point lead against the lousy Cardinals, Bowles tore into his defense, challenging them to get their heads out of their backsides and start playing smart football.

The Bucs went out and got a four-and-out, sealing the win.

In his opening remarks yesterday in his postgame press conference, Mayfield’s words did not dissuade Joe from thinking the Bucs have a locker room issue or an attitude issue.

“It sucks,” Mayfield said of losing to the slimy Saints. “It felt like we just gave it away or didn’t make the plays to win it.

“There [were] too many mistakes, and conditions aren’t an excuse, because they had to play in them too. So, none of that matters – it’s just a matter of making the plays, plays that guys have made a bunch of times. Yeah, [we’ve] just got to execute.”

It’s the same ol’ story, week after week. Just have to play smart. Execute. They’ve done it before.

But for some reason, unless someone tears into them, the Bucs are not motivated. As a team they’re not playing smart or fundamentally sound ball.

This is why Joe thinks Bowles’ message isn’t getting through. Either Bowles’ message has grown stale or he has lost his team. Why are these guys not motivated? Should winning and the playoffs be motivation itself?

Professional teams shouldn’t require a coach or a team leader to go full-blown Bobby Knight weekly to implore players to play aggressively and smartly.

Joe suspects if the Bucs keep losing, we’re going to see a decent change in personnel for the 2026 season. The defense probably needs an overhaul.

Pretty clear Bowles has lost this team. It’s looking like late 2008 with Gruden all over again.

  2. Truth be Told Says:

This Team has reached it’s ceiling with this Head Coach. His forte is supposed to be Defense-and for reasons both obvious and not-the Defense stinks on this team. There is no Pass Rush and they make every QB look All-Pro. It will be time at the end of the season to bring in an Offensive minded Head Coach with a Real DC and a Kick Off team that doesn’t allow every one returned to the 50 yard line. The Fan Base will be very bummed out if they keep Todd next year too. It is Time. They are blocking his message out now.

  3. Smashsquatch Says:

This teams needs a visit from Bobby Knight and Lee Elia.

  4. BPBucsfan Says:

The coach needs an overhaul. GM needs an overhaul too. In the last 2-3 years we could’ve had Montez Sweat (7.5 sacks this year), Josh Sweat, and Jalen Phillips on defense for no more than 3rd round pick for already proven players. How much different would our defense look? Hoarding 3rd round picks so we can draft more Chris Braswell’s? No fire. No top level coaching or coordinators. You only get what you pay for.

  5. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Defense needs an overhaul would be an understatement. The picks from GM Licht have been atrocious.

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

Maybe the team has checked out on Bowles. Previous teams did it with Rah (and it is happening to him again in the ATL), Lovie and Koetter. As the team keeps making mistakes, it is obvious whatever Bowles is doing is stale and in the case of Tom McGaughey it simply has to be bad coaching and zero accountability. The OC is green and wet behind the ears with injuries. Bucs were fortunate that did not happen with Coen or Canales. Anyhow, we will know soon enough if the team has quit. If they cannot play with heart on Thursday night with all the gala of the franchise turning 50, well it can’t be blamed on the cursed creamsicles, can it?

  7. Ugo Says:

    BPBucs

Imagine having both Sweat or Montez along with Jalen Philips on this team. How things might be different. Then again, Bowles would probably make them cover the long ball

  8. jimmy Says:

hopefully some cheerleader or other can chime in and explain this buc “culture”. a frequent go to for the marketing department who post here, and other cheerleaders, yipping and yapping about “culture”

    hows the culture now?

No baker you didn’t give it away, they came into your house and took it

  10. Tucker Says:

When has bowels inspired anyone if that is the issue then this ship has already sunk and let a proper rebuild start.

  11. SB~LV Says:

    They did !
Sack’s galore in the first half and then they sat on their laurels.. again!
At the end of the day 💩 runs up hill to the feet of the FREAKING HEAD COACH!
The seasonal malaise 💩’s it’s pants Every single Year
    Leaders lead !
    Posers react !
    Need a major clean house!

  12. underdawg Says:

Since, according to some on this thread, everything is Mayfield’s fault for the losses then they should start Teddy. They might need him to play defense too since the secondary is pathetic.

  13. BPBucsfan Says:

Ugo, that’s true. Not sure how Montez Sweat would do in coverage. This defense makes no sense. Someone else made the comment that the defense is so complex, that it’s shredded weekly by rookie QB’s and backups. There’s a reason (maybe 2) that Bowles won’t be fired. One is from what I’ve seen, is he’s on the cheap, the other I won’t say. The Glazer’s don’t want negative images from him being fired.

  14. Shane247 Says:

For the sake of argument, let’s pretend that Bowles really is a defensive genius and his schemes are brilliant, if executed perfectly. Where then are we finding 90 players with a 150 IQ and the athleticism and instincts to match what is required to master these schemes? This to me becomes the ultimate safety net, because it’s always the players fault.

Unfortunately, for Bowles and anyone giving him a pass, most of us have watched football since we were little kids and we’ve seen far less talented teams do more with less. Smart coaches know what their players do well. They put them in positions to succeed. Everyone who has watched this defense should realize by now that the same issues plague this team year after year. We aren’t getting better, in fact players are regressing, which tells me they are giving up. I’m sure Todd Bowles is a nice guy, but he’s a terrible coach!

  15. Todd Says:

How about making ANY impactful trade deadline deal during any season? Licht is unable to admit HIS guys need help. Licht aint all that.

  16. Rob Says:

I can guarantee you that motivation would not be an issue on a Bill Cower, Bruce Arians or Bill Parcells team. These players need a sideline a$$ chewing every time they blow a play, miss a tackle, or are out of position.
Basic fundamentals are lacking, as is a killer instinct. That is a direct result of coaching.
Let’s be real, our defense has sucked for 3 straight years, with this year being the worst. Who has DB’s playing 12 yards back on 3rd and 5? Who has 280 D linemen coving receivers on mid-deep routs?
Week after week the basic fundamentals aren’t there… nor is the attitude. Def time for a coaching change.

  17. LVMYBUCS Says:

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as u stated “It’s the same ol’ story, week after week.”

  18. JustOneGame Says:

@Joe you should run your “Will the Bucs beat the Falcons poll” today!

  19. Bradinator Says:

Imagine you are a Press Man CB in this defense. You’re playing 10 yards off the WR and you KNOW there will be no pass rush to help you. How do you know that? Because the Edge rusher is out there in pass coverage with on another WR!! If you’re an Edge rusher and have to cover WRs (saw Nelson yesterday on Chris Olave) how depressing that would be. These guys are set up to fail and we wonder why they aren’t playing that hard.

  20. Trey Alderson-Cloutier Says:

Can’t wait for this season to be over so we can just pick a new coach and have something to look forward to next season.

  21. Inwoodjeremy Says:

They know they weren’t a SB caliber team when they got handled by Detroit. They immediately knew they didn’t have the horses, being out coached and out played. Once personal incentives stats are out of reach for the season players lay down. It’s been a downward spiral ever since that game. Some say don’t blow everything up and start over I respectly disagree. The only thing you lose is a DC that you need anyway. A golfing advisor that isn’t needed. S/T coach that doesn’t do the job, and a 3rd down 5 play specialist. The only thing matters to me is 3-0 in Superbowls. 2-1 or 0-17 is the same effect for me. Yes and better talent on the roster is needed. I understand you got to get younger but the younger group isn’t progressing into top 10 talent. That is when they can even get on the field. Ok rant over, Go Bucs!
P.S. No I don’t know who to hire I don’t get paid for that. Throw a pool of names out there if you want to. If the current staff is still the best available so be it.

  22. OneAndThree Says:

Let the countdown begin. Bowles is a dead man walking and he knows it.

Just a few more games left and this wretched nightmare can come to it’s inevitable tragic ending.

Another Prime Time loss to a division foe at home to a terrible team is the first leg of the stool.

Then a loss on the road to the stinking Panthers to seal the division is another leg.

Finally the end of any playoff hopes eliminated should be the final straw.

    Then……FIRE BOWLES!!!!!!!

  23. HC Grover Says:

It will take years to fix the Bowles Mess.

  24. JustOneGame Says:

Is it too soon to ask for articles on potential coaching candidates, maybe Lincoln Riley or Bob Stoops… Riley is an t USC, could be hard to pry him away but maybe stoops could be had. Open to other suggestions need someone Baker is familiar with though I would think.

  25. jb47 Says:

Hassan Reddick is this years version of swaggy baker. Dude looks like he is just here to collect a paycheck. It wouldn’t surprise me if his uninspiring attitude has leaked into the defense.

  26. Texas Bucs Fan Says:

A coach similar to Gruden needs to be brought in. I would be all out for a Gruden return , just not sure he would leave the personnel to Light. If he could agree to that then I’m all for it. This team needs more accountability for the product they continue to display on the field. Players are checked out and have the marshawn lynch Super Bowl interview attitude. “I’m just here so I don’t get fined” play style. Bowles counts on his locker room to police this. Obviously when that happens and the same players that continue to make the same mistakes repeatedly are still on the field what does that matter ? The problem is no accountability whatsoever. Even with his own staff , special teams coordinator should have been gone weeks ago. I understand loyalty to a point. However if they realize there will be no consequence then everyone gets too comfortable. Just my humble opinion.

  27. Shane247 Says:

I think it’s no coincidence that after the Lions game our offensive play calling completely changed. I remember Bowles complaining that he wanted to run the ball more during his post game interview. Before that game the schemes were much better. More players were involved and Gizzard seemed to have a much better feel for what was going on. I suspect Bowles changed the offense after that game. Why else would we abandon what was working for what appears to be 5 or 6 play calls ran in rotation?

  28. Bobby M. Says:

Go back and look at Bowles record against winning teams…..its like 6-18. He’s routinely outsmarted by half the coaches in the league and built his legacy on winning against the crappy NFC South. Anyone that has watched this team since Bowles took over has seen it. Defensive “gurus” dont allow back up and rookie QBs to have career days on a routine basis. Some of these guys on defense have been in this “system” since 2020…..yet we still look completely lost against bottom tier teams/QBs.

  29. Bobby Says:

    Jon Gruden

  30. FootBall1 Says:

Joe a couple of things, The defense just doesn’t have the personnel. Yes while offensive draft picks have been stellar the same can’t be said for the defense. With that said, both Bowles and Licht apparantly did not see the issue at OLB, MLB, the play there is awful. To make matters worse, their is no depth at MLB.
The Bucs gambled on McColumn and his play has reversed.
The offense, definately something wrong with Baker, the o line , just too many injuries and they were playing better when they were out of position. Then on top of that the coaching. Every week the poor tackling is brought up, however, nothing changes, the execution and effort too. The Special teams are especially bad. Those things are not talent, they are heart and motivation That is coaching, pure and simple. Finally yes certain players are getting older and can’t carry the team as they once did. The younger ones just don’t have the talent and or desire.
Yes, the defense needs to be overhauled. The offense needs a swift kick somewhere. Yes if you have to motivate your team each week, then something is definately wrong.

  31. Permanently Moderated Says:

The sad reality is that the Glazers will keep Bowles because, remember, he’s a genius and players just love him. 😏

  32. Kayla Says:

The SB window on this team and coaches has closed and it’s definitely time for a reset. And a complete tear down and rebuild project depends on the answer to this question: If healthy (which he’s obviously not now), is Baker the 2024, top-5, pro bowl version you can win a SB with? If not, do you try to trade up in the draft to get a QB for the future?

  33. Jmarkbuc Says:

It’s not that they’ve checked out. Bowles and his staff just aren’t good coaches. This team can’t do the most fundamental things.

Bowles may be a great guy, and players may love him, but who wouldn’t? They can be the least hard working team in the league and still get paid.

Bud Licht is no genius either, he’s been camouflaging his ineptness for the last 7 years.

  34. LVMYBUCS Says:

We have good players and good depth we are a SB team but never under Bowles. He blew last years run against the Commander and his D blew the Rams game last year we had Brady. Dude is out of date.

  35. Bobby M.

I think the players genuinely like Bowles, his approach as a former player probably sits well with them however its clear there’s no fear of accountability, there’s no fire. Frankly his message/scheme is stale. Based on comments made by both Mayfield and David, the team thrives on having someone getting them fired up and that’s not Bowles personality. When Gruden took over for Dungy, he challenged an already elite defense to do more….in particular score more TDs as a defense. He brought an energy to a unit that was already performing at an elite level and pushed them to new heights. That defense is arguably in the conversation for being one of the all time greats.

Now look at Bowles defense…..they routinely play down to inferior competition, have absolutely poor tackling, look lost week after week and completely gassed by the 4th qtr. We have no edge…..the unit is boom or bust based on blitzes. He’s simply not a good leader of a team. Probably a very serviceable DC but not a HC.

  36. firethecannons Says:

The sooner Bucs cut bait with Todd Bowles the better. There are coaches that inspire and motivate and Bowles and his people do neither. He is a nice person at the mike but that is not working. Yesterday the tackling was atrocious and it was easy for Shough to run it in. How many losses will it take to lose the locker room entirely, I think we are already well on our way. The Bucs team looked so bad. The kickoff return from the Saints tells the whole story. We had this problem with the Bills game and it is not corrected yet no one is fired for it. Mistakes made that do not get corrected, over and over.

  37. Frank Pillow Says:

This team hook and crooked its way to 6-2. When the luck ran out, they were exposed from the top down.

  38. Durango 95 Says:

“This is why Joe thinks Bowles’ message isn’t getting through. Either Bowles’ message has grown stale or he has lost his team. ”
    ——–

Of course he’s lost the team . It happened a long time ago. Only now Bowles doesn’t have an OC to hide behind. Once a coach loses the team there is no getting that back. Can’t be done. Think Greg Schiano.

  39. Tampabaybucfan Says:

They love Todd Bowles but they don’t fear him. Maybe a dose of Mike Evans is needed.

  40. firethecannons Says:

Kayla appreciate your comment, I say we even consider trading Baker, all options on the table. He may be our best option but no one should be guaranteed a job. A rebuild starts at the top.

  41. BucsFan81 Says:

What do the Joes know that they are not telling us that is going on behind the scenes? It definitely looks like this team just does not care anymore. They look like they just want to go on vacation. I think there are a few that care EE, Baker, Godwin and LVD to name a few. But most of the players on this team have checked out. It’s time for a complete overhaul.

  42. Rick Says:

As much as I look forward to football season each year – – am looking forward to this Bucs season ending. Horrible. It may the beginning of an ugly time here in Tampa.

  43. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“No baker you didn’t give it away, they came into your house and took it”

    Pretty much

“I remember Bowles complaining that he wanted to run the ball more during his post game interview. Before that game the schemes were much better. More players were involved and Gizzard seemed to have a much better feel for what was going on. I suspect Bowles changed the offense after that game.”

Como? We’ve been struggling in the same manner on offense all season. Can’t string together a drive, and when we do can’t replicate it on the next drive. As much as I love the excitement of a 3rd down scramble for a first, it’d be even better if we were more successful getting upfield on 1st & 2nd downs so we aren’t constantly getting buried for 3rd and mid-long.

  44. Steve Says:

No doubt Bowles has lost Baker.

  45. Durango 95 Says:

    HC Grover Says:
    December 8th, 2025 at 9:35 am

It will take years to fix the Bowles Mess.
    ——–
Yep. And I would bet the Glazers don’t realize what they are facing. The rot has been allowed to fester for so long that it has now putrified..

  46. Pewter Power Says:

Anyone saying we need to tear down and rebuild has lost their minds. “The king maker” struck out! They keep going young everywhere on this team except Todd Bowles decrepit defensive coaching staff. Receivers, running, o line? There’s nothing wrong with the secondary, there’s something wrong with Todd’s Bowles. Teams have done more with less. Carolina panthers defense was a joke last year! The front 7 needs an overhaul

  47. Bill in Seminole Says:

The Bucs lack depth. The problem with the next guy up mentality is that the next guy up is weak. You would think that at a key position like left tackle we’d have a qualified backup. I had never heard of the guy we had starting yesterday. And our defensive backs got taken to the cleaners by a third string QB…again

  48. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I’m flying down Wednesday if this was not my sons first time to a Tampa game in Tampa!!! I would sell my tickets and cancel my flight, what an embarrassment!!!! Licht wake up and do something immediately this is getting out of control, bad bad football!!! I’m lost for words!!!

  49. Sparky Says:

I think we have found the flaw with Licht’s philosopy on personality. It’s great to have a locker room full of humble, laid back, Walter Payton Man of the Year team players. But man does it seem like they are all waiting for some alpha dog with killer instinct to come in and fire them all up. I’m not saying we need me-first, locker room cancers, but maybe a few guys with anger issues and an edge to them wouldn’t be the worst thing.

  50. SB~LV Says:

💩’s is a great coach if everything is working perfectly…
You could cut and paste critical comments from the last 3 years and other than players names mentioned no one could tell which season or what team the Bucs were playing
It’s even more painful to realize that it’s all been pointed out before.

  51. BayouBullet Says:

Joe suspects if the Bucs keep losing, we’re going to see a decent change in personnel for the 2026 season. The defense probably needs an overhaul

We were told that very same story at the end of last season and nothing changed. You need a new narrative.

  52. Hodad Says:

Turn around can happen quickly. Look no further than the Jags, bears, and pats. It takes the right leadership, and vision. That’s lacking with Bowles, and Licht. Bowles not benching under performing players, Licht handing out extensions before he has to. No accountability. New regime comes in, make every player on the roster open for trade. Vea, Zyon, Winfield, all of them. Get what you can for them, and the money you save let the new GM sign his own FAs. Stock him with picks, and the turn around will happen fast.

  53. SlyPirate Says:

The Defensive Scheme is old, tired, and easy to figure out.

Would you be motivated if you knew the other team already has you beat?

  54. Jerseybuc Says:

Team especially defense tuned radio out. Guess there tired of midseason losing streaks also or maybe watching special teams suck week after week and not one single change. Can not wait for this dummy to be bounced. They might not win another game honestly

  55. Inwoodjeremy Says:

After the Superbowl and departure of B.A. Todd was brought in as a stop gap. After Brady left Mayfield was brought in as a stop gap. At that point in time that’s what the expectations were. A stop gap to rebuild and recover from cap hell. Nobody at that time thought about them as a Superbowl winning tandem. Nobody even knew if Mayfield or Trask was going to start. They flashed a little bit with Dave and Coen and everyone forgot about that. Now the ceiling is here and the stop gap continues.

  56. lambchop Says:

This team should realize Lavonte has probably decided he will retire at the end of the season and Mike would strongly consider it if his career didn’t end on injury – he might take his last dance to Houston if we’re this apathetic.

Jason Licht needs to put the beer down and make some tough decisions and set expectations for any player coasting into next year.

  57. Baking with Grizz Says:

I agree with Joe. This defense seems to careless about Bowles.
It reminds me of Raheem’s last year as a coach.
    Time for a change. SMH

  58. Canabuc Says:

I remember a while ago someone saying on this site that you are not a true fan if you root for the team to lose. And on the surface that sounds like a logical comment. However I think a true fan looks at the big picture and the long-term picture.

Even if we went out and make the playoffs it is quite evident that this current roster and this current coaching staff is not a Super bowl contender. Another year of one and done in the playoffs all it will do is secure us the number one Division position giving us another extremely difficult schedule and a worse draft pick. Additionally and more importantly it likely secures at least another season of coaching by Todd “game has passed me by ” Bowles.

I think a real fan sees the real picture and knows that the only way this team will get better is with a real shake up. That starts with unfortunately blowing up this team to some degree:

    1. Fire the coaches- special teams is a disaster. Defense is a disaster. While I am a bit disappointed with Josh grizzard I do give him a bit of a pass for the following reasons. He has been playing with a makeshift offensive line for nearly every game of the season. Baker Mayfield has been playing hurt for a good portion of the season, we have missed Bucky Irving for more than half the season. And we have missed the core trio of wide receivers that were expected to be large contributors for most of the season. Now yes I know other teams have done more with less, but for a rookie offensive coordinator not having an offensive line and missing all of your weapons and having an injured quarterback really limits what you can do. I am okay keeping him for another season. I would also keep the offensive line coaches because I think they have done a fairly good job given what they have had to work with.

    2. Time to say goodbye to some beloved vets- I am quite certain that this was David’s last season. I think he chose to stick around because he saw a personnel that he thought could really contend for a super bowl. But after him bolting out of the locker room at the end of last game I think that signals the writing is on the wall and he will not be back. Mike Evans who I love and who I expect will retire as a buccaneer likely has at most one season more in him but I think the way injuries caught up with him this year it wouldn’t surprise me if he decides to hang it up as well.

    3. Time to trade, cut, or not resign underperformers. I expect that unless he takes a cheap deal that Cade Otton, Logan Hall, Rachaad White will all be gone. Dean likely will be gone because he has been one of our only shining players on defense and like fools we rejigged his contract in a way that guarantees he will sign somewhere else for a lot of money when we could have had him for another season at a bargain. Reddick was a a13 million dollar gamble and will be gone.

Now this may be unpopular to say but I think we should look at trading Antoine Winfield Jr next season. He is not worth what he is being paid and is not look like the same guy from 2 years ago. If we can get a first round pick for him or a high second round pick I would jump on it. Same thing with Zion McCollum I think somewhere somebody might see his athletic skills and feel that his performance has been suboptimal because of the scheme he is in and might be willing to give us a third round pick. If we can get a third I would let him go as well.

    4. Use off season and draft to fill voids-

    Top 4 rounds should be:

    1. Evans replacement (Big Body WR1) or Edge rusher if a top one is available
    2. Interior DT to both pair with and eventually replace Vea ( Kansey Vea Roberts and new
DT sounds not bad up front)
    3. ILB we need David replacement. We all hate on Dennis but I think he was used wrong.
He can Blitz and stuff the run but we need a coverage backer
    4.Tight End

The order of those pics certainly could change depending on what talent is available in each round. If there really is a game changer at linebacker or the tackle then yes I would take them in an earlier round if possible but I think these are all positions where you can get value in the draft rather than overdrafting since linebacker tight ant and detachable are not typically as popular positions as quarterback wide receiver and CBS.

Free agency should be for getting a veteran lineman in the interior at guard or center and consider moving Barton to guard. Safeties tend not to be overly expensive in free agency and would get Winfield replacement if traded to pair with Tykee and Izien. Running back to replace white or re sign him cheap as well. I would also use free agency to try to sign and established Edge rusher given that we have not really developed one in many years though a new coaching staff might be different. This is the one place I would consider spending some money to do so. I would also use free agency to find another depth piece at corner with the expectation that Morrison will take over one position and if we lose McCallum then I would go for a high price corner in free agency as our other major signing.

I think should we not make the playoffs and draft somewhere around the 14th spot we could probably reload certain positions on the roster get the team younger and more aggressive mindset for a new coach that would be able to turn this team around probably within a season or two.

Finally and the last thing that I have not said but that could be the most important is while I love Baker Mayfield and the moxie that he has I am really not sure if he is a championship level quarterback. So while I would want to extend him I would make it a contract that had incentives in it to get it to the numbers that we would normally give to a championship quarterback and with ways of getting out of it should he not reach those performance measures so that we are not stuck with a heavyweight around the neck of the franchise because of a massive contract.

  59. Deeboooo Says:

The people who still think a trade at the deadline would have changed anything on this team are thick skulled. I’m glad we saved our picks, it obvious now that no addition would have put this team over the top for a Super Bowl. Shoot it wouldn’t put us over the top to get to the playoffs!

  60. Co-Z Coolman Says:

Bowles needs to go. There is enough top talent on this roster in key positions on offense to do a quick reload. We need a defensive coach with a actual scheme that works. The Patriots are the top team in the AFC with a young roster that needed some coaching up. I can see a similar rebound of the right leadership comes in to fix the defense.

  61. TheVerv7 Says:

@TexasBuc- If Gruden would agree to hire a young up and coming OC and let the GM make the decisions in terms of draft/FA, then I would absolutely be open to him returning. He would immediately bring in accountability and light a fire under this deflated team. Again, as long as he stays FAR AWAY from scouting players because he is terrible at talent evaluation/developing players.

  62. Paxon Says:

Our qb is mediocre, and our coach is below average. Can’t win a Super Bowl with that combination. Blow it up asap.

  63. Gipper Says:

Somebody posted here ‘that we have good players and good depth’ a SB quality team. No we don’t and it isn’t even close. Count the long breakaway runs this defense routinely allows. Winfield at safety is never remotely close to tracking down a breakaway runner. Compare player to player BUCS defense vs RAMS, DETROIT, or other top teams and you will find out that very few Bucs defenders could play first team defense on contending teams.

Is it possible that the players see the need for Bowles to be replaced ?
Is it possible the players see that there is no in house candidate to replace Bowles even on an interim basis ?
Is it possible that the players are playing not to get injured and protect their future ?
Is it possible for the players to realize that a new coaching regime is needed and is on the horizon ?
Given all the above, is it possible that each and every player knows they may likely be playing elsewhere next year ?
After 2 exceptionally good years and early talk of MVP is Baker likely to want to stay after this debacle ?

Keep asking questions and the obvious will become just that.

  65. NYbucsfan Says:

This team needs to rid itself of Todd Bowles. He’s the main reason for the losing he’s holding this team back. I feel like the players now realize he’s no good.

  66. lambchop Says:

Todd Bowles’ job has been saved in previous years by the offense. This year, Josh Grizzard couldn’t cover up Todd mediocrity.

  67. BUDLIKEDTHEBUCS Says:

when a team plays like they are just going through the motions scared to lose confused if they are doing something right or wrong not playing with emotion or fire and realized they do not really have the talent to be top tier this is what you get
Bring in Chuckie a GM he can actually work with and a young OC and DC he can work with Mayfield is the only reason this team does not have a losing record hes hurt The first half of the season was smoke and mirrors Bud would not be happy for me its the same sos

  68. CaliBucsFan86 Says:

Look at all the spoiled Bucs fans, do you guys not remember when we couldn’t get 5 wins? We’re tied for first still playing meaningful games in December, let that sink in. Bowels will turn it around, stop complaining everyone, it was a bad day.

  69. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Jason Licht is the architect of this collapse. He is a career loser who was saved by Brady. Brady brought in a bunch of winners. They are gone. Licht is a loser.

ANd why are we paying Arians? Fire that guy and Moore and Licht and Todd.

Get some new blood and new ideas because this crap is stale AF.

    No more dinosaurs. SMDH.

  70. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Bad day? We’ve lost 5 of the last 7 and we stink. Stop peeing on us and telling us it’s only rain. Anyone wanting to keep Todd and Jason hate the Bucs. You don’t want us to win a Super Bowl.

  72. Sal Volatile Says:

It’s the same ol’ story, week after week. Just have to play smart. Execute. They’ve done it before.

Baker referring to the team as “they” should tell you all you need to know.

  73. Tucker Says:

Bucs playing like everyone getting a trophy at the end of the year.

  74. Williams to House Says:

I have been a luke warm supporter of Coach Bowles, but after yesterday nothing short of winning out and at least a first round playoff win saves his job in my book. I disagree that we lack the offensive personnel to win, we went at Seattle and won a shootout. Every team suffers injuries, so that is no excuse, especially for yesterday’s performance. I fully support Jason Licht but do not agree with his lack of action at the trade deadline. The Bowles defense requires fast and good tackling linebackers, we have neither. Licht needs to remedy that this offseason no matter who the defensive coordinator is. Finally, I would love to see Coach Gruden return but Jason Licht needs to be the final say in personnel decisions, and he needs a great young defensive coordinator.

  75. Bucamania Says:

This team has looked broken since the Detroit game. Something stinks. Baker went from a trash talking baller to whatever this is. And the defense has been beyond embarrassing. There’s no effort, no heart. Very disappointing. Time for a change.

  76. BigMacAttack Says:

I believe that about 15 other NFL coaches would have done a better job with this exact roster. Call it for what it is. Todd Bowles is the Cancer on this team. He has been since he dropped his sack against the Rams in TB12’s final game when he froze like a deer in the headlights and watched back to back titles evaporate in under one minute. He is not an NFL caliber head coach and it’s a drag, because he’s a great person. Todd, bro, it’s time for you to step aside, and take that discount OC play caller with you.

  77. Old Sombrero Says:

What’s telling to me is that all three teams are failing simultaneously. The opening kick off coverage sucked which led to a quick score. Where was the D to step up and bail out the poor kick coverage? That should’ve been the D’s objective the moment they stepped onto the short field – to step up, bail out the kick coverage and make a statement that it’s their home field and you’re not getting anything without a fight. Then you have the offense not capitalizing (failed 4th and short times 2 in the first half) in Saints territory. That cannot happen. Where is the determination to get the first down?

  78. Inwoodjeremy Says:

@Gipper agree, not a top 10 roster and the young drafted players aren’t progressing in that direction outside of a few players. That is even if they can stay healthy enough to get on the field.
@Deebooo agree a guy or two wouldn’t have made a difference. Way to many holes to fill. Would have just been a farther set back. I do believe Jason will have to get some big name FA on the way and pay the price to make a run in the future. The November trade deadline is for teams knowing the pieces are in place but want insurance.

  79. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Then you have the offense not capitalizing (failed 4th and short times 2 in the first half) in Saints territory. That cannot happen. Where is the determination to get the first down?”

How’s about scoring more than 3 points off a turnover in a game we lost by the difference between a TD we didn’t score and a FG we settled for.

  80. rfdes Says:

I think any fair minded fan could see from the start of the season that the wins were fun but not convincing. I believe the San Fran game was our best showing. 81. BucU Says:

When Bowles is fired at seasons end how many teams will be clamoring to hire him as their next HC???

    Answer: N O B O D Y .

  82. 813bucboi Says:

IMO, we have the players on both sides of the ball to be SB contenders….

we need to switch to an aggressive 43 defense that doesnt have DLs dropping into coverage and lets their DEs go after the QB…

we need to clean house coaching wise and big money players that arent producing….reddick, zyon, winfield…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  83. G-Buc Says:

Bowles has lost the team. Players out of position… turning Kancey and Hall into interior D-linemen. Dropping OLB into coverage. Dropping DT into coverage. I know it is done by other teams however it does not seem as often.

Put them in position to play to their strengths not what your defense can scheme.

Clearly HC message is on deaf ears. He is over thought this thing and now players are shutting him out.

For all the baker sceptical fans, he was spot on. If I get it to a guy in the end zone, in the wet, sloppy field, and if he has to sky a little higher and face landing hard on his back and making a touchdown, or worrying about the fall, then we don’t have the killer instinct. You all don’t think Baker wants to win? Damn! He carried us on his back until he got hurt! comments?

  86. OneAndThree Says:

Did anyone else notice Bakers body language towards Bowles before one of the failed 4th down attempts?

It was not a good look at all. After Grizzard said something to Baker, Bowles came into the conversation and said something to Baker, and the look Baker gave Bowles told the story.

I think Bowles has lost the QB and the team as a whole.

Plus, the rotten Swiss cheese defense we see every Sunday is not helping Bowles cause.

Bide your time Bucs fans. We are almost out of this coaching storm.

  87. BPBucsfan Says:

One or 2 players now maybe not much difference, but over time it will add up. My point is, using a draft pick for a player that is already proven vs taking a stab in the dark. It could end up being Tom Brady or it could also be Johnny Manziel.

How about making ANY impactful trade deadline deal during any season? Licht is unable to admit HIS guys need help. Licht aint all that
    ______________________________

Licht had the good sense to know that coughing up draft capital for one or two rental players wouldn’t help anything.

He’s not stupid and, if fired, he would have a job in a week – and we’d get someone who’s half as good.

  91. mistermarty Says:

I have caught Dennis loafing on at least 8 plays this year. Saw him checking his fingernails before a snap and lost coverage on his half of the field. Reddick and Dennis have both given up. Dean and McCollum both think they are better than what they are and do not like playing Bowles Cover 2 most of the game.

Bowles has been in a pickle because we can’t generate a pass rush with four, and he doesn’t want to give up a quick TD. Yesterday he should have adjusted and should have made Slough throw the long out’s due to the rain but gave up the middle all day. I would suggest we rush 5, play six DB’s and tell them it’s to time step up or shut up.

You could substitute David and Dennis in a rotation and sit Dennis most of the game to send a message. I would cut Reddick at this point to help solidify this gig is over.

Grizz also should have pounded Tucker all day yesterday even we were behind,
giving up the long Kick off return and the TD gave Saints hope. Tucker could have made them quit. Please just kick it thru the end zone and let the other team start at the 35.

    Just my 2 cents.

  92. BucsfaninOregon Says:

The problem is NOT Baker Mayfield. Who on the roster has played with more heart and moxie than Baker? This team is horrible in most all phases. A QB can only do so much.

  93. Bosch Says:

Bowels isn’t getting his message across? What is his message? Does he even have one?

  94. Buckit Says:

I wonder where our Defensive players graded out on this testing:

NFL teams evaluate draftees’ intelligence through cognitive tests like S2 and AIQ, which measure processing speed, learning, and reaction time, alongside traditional film study, interviews, and AI-driven analysis of physical movements to gauge football IQ and scheme fit. These tools assess how players learn, make split-second decisions, and adapt to complex systems, going beyond raw athletic talent to predict on-field success and locker room integration, especially for QBs and playmakers.

  95. Jack Sparrow Says:

Bucs basically have no talent on either side of the ball. Our players, at best, will be second stringers in another NFL team. Our Head Coach, probably a water boy in a college football team…..

  96. Ateonetree Says:

This team is giving Raheem morris, Greg schanio, Koetter vibes. They have given up. Plain and simple. I think we have a strong foundation talent wise, but we need new coaching

  98. BPBucsfan Says:

Purplebeard. I know, I’m referring to how draft picks can go either way. 6th rounder turns into best QB ever, a highly drafted player can be a bust. Look at Trevor Lawrence, you’d think he would be fantastic given all the hype, yet so far, mediocre at best. Probably improve though with Cohen.

  99. unbelievable Says:

    Duh,

Bowles has lost the locker room. I’ve been telling ya’ll this for weeks.

Detroit broke this team, and rather than regrouping them during the bye week like a good head coach would, Bowles sent them on extra vacation, because his practice and training regimen just hasn’t been soft enough, apparently.

Into letting Coen become head coach for the Jags. You gotta ask yourself if you were “promised” the head coaching job at a future date would you trust the Glazers to follow through? No you wouldn’t. And I believe the defensive coaching staff cannot develop players. Too many quality college players come here only to be mediocre or fail.
Didn’t Toad say during the bye week he had an epiphany on how to fix the defense? He stayed a year too long, should have retired and let Coen have the job

Baker has a lot of heart. The Bucs offensive line looks like they have just been in a train wreck. Who is to blame when the team can’t make one yard for a first down (they failed twice)? Their pass blocking is porous and dangerous for a quarter back. No wonder Baker is hurt. It won’t get any better from here with these third string players.
Of course the defensive line puts no pressure on the quarterback, misses tackles and the secondary looks like they took a sedative before the game.

  103. gotbbucs Says:

I keep hearing that Bowles looked dejected after the game and looked out of answers.
I think reality has finally hit him. There’s really no scapegoat on his staff that he can throw overboard. Firing a special teams coach doesn’t move the needle. Hes watched the last two OC’s that the team had go on to lead their teams as head coaches better than he can, so he cant fire this one without admitting that the two before carried him through those seasons,…..and he can’t fire the DC without doing it into a mirror, which he apparently doesn’t own, or he would have already looked into it and come to this realization long ago.
Those early season wins were a mirage. This recent string of games are the real 2025 Bucs.

  104. Rod Munch Says:

The following week with the Bucs clinging to a three-point lead against the lousy Cardinals, Bowles tore into his defense, challenging them to get their heads out of their backsides and start playing smart football.

The Bucs went out and got a four-and-out, sealing the win.

    ————–

And this week, the Bucs defense again made a stop, gave the ball back to Baker with a chance to win the game, and Baker went four-and-out, sealing the loss.

The idea that the defense is the issue is nonsense. You can not count on a defense, in 2025, giving up less than 20 points a game. You need the offense to show-up, and the Bucs offense has mostly been MIA the last couple of months.

If Baker snaps out of it, then the Bucs have a chance. And, good news, Baker tends to play very poorly before suddenly, and unexpectedly, getting hot – so there’s still time for that to happen. But the hour is getting very late.

  105. Texas Bucs Fan Says:

Give up on this Gruden coming back to the bucs. The Owners would never hire him back. His time has come & gone. The game has passed him by. The team should let ME & LD retire. Cut or trade Otten, Hall, Reddick, Zyon & Winfield..

  106. It's Corn Says:

    They all seem tired.

I dunno if they are still doing that TB12 pseudo-science horse garbage, but they get this way ever year it seems. And more injured than most teams. The season is 10 games too long for them.

  107. SBucs Says:

The Bucs draft to fit Todd’s system, personality and befuddlement. The rot starts all the way at the top. Jason.

  108. SBucs Says:

Don’t worry a new regime will bring in players who upset the apple cart with hair on fire. Who will go out and take an opponents head off whenever possible. Just like 31 other teams. Todd teaches lethargy, over complicated defense and side to side offense.

  109. BUCDADDY Says:

Really depressed about this season. The only thing that could turn me around on how bad this team has been coached and performed, would be a complete turnaround where we end up in the NFC Championship. Even if we lost, I would be somewhat fulfilled. But sadly, the reality is that we probably won’t even make the playoffs. I’m probably delusional thinking ME13 and McMillan returning will open up the passing game and the deep ball, especially when Grizzard draws up some of the worst passing schemes I’ve ever seen. And our guys have no field awareness, failing to get past the sticks when we need a simple 5 yard pick-up. It’s all just mind-boggling how a guy getting paid millions to play a kid’s game, who is supposed to be the elite of the elite, can’t manage to do this. Pathetic and sad…

  110. Bodacious Bubbie Says:

Disappointed? You bet. Surprised? Nope. It has seemed for several weeks now that Coach Bowles has lost the defensive locker room. Every fan can give the post-game speech that Bowles gives verbatim. But nothing changes. Certainly, injuries have played a massive role in the troubles, but what happened between the first and second halves of the season? Disappointed? Absolutely. Surprised? Not at all. For several weeks now, it has become evident that Coach Bowles has lost the support of the defensive locker room. Every fan can recite his post-game speech word for word, yet nothing changes. While injuries have certainly contributed to the team’s struggles, the question remains: what happened between the first half and the second half of the season? We don’t recognize this team anymore. And don’t try to blame it on Baker or Ekbuka…or any 1 player. This is a team breakdown. I think we can all agree that even if by some miracle we DO win the division, we are out in the first round of the playoffs. And it is not certain at all that we WILL take the division. At this point, we simply cannot trust this team to “communicate, execute, stop making mistakes, and make plays”.
