Could Jamel Dean Shock The World Tomorrow?

December 6th, 2025

Taking advantage of a rookie?

This would be making a scene.

Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean, in lighter moments, likes to give himself a handle, “Don’t make a scene, Jamel Dean.” If he pulls off what a guy who drowns himself in stats predicted, Joe will go ahead and say such a play would be Dean making a scene.

Seth Walder, a guy who never met a number he didn’t like, declared that tomorrow Dean could stretch his personal record of picks in a season to four. Walder believes that when you compare Dean’s numbers and mix in a rookie quarterback, it’s not a dumb bet to think Dean could get another pick.

Despite Dean putting up strong defensive numbers, teams still target Dean a fair amount of times. And it wouldn’t shock Joe if a rookie quarterback (slimy Saints quarterback) Tyler Shough might make a dumb decision and Dean could be making a scene.

Bold prediction: Buccaneers CB Jamel Dean will record an interception. Among the 11 corners who have allowed under 0.8 yards per coverage snap this season (minimum 200 coverage snaps), Dean has the highest target rate at 15%. In other words: He’s preventing opposing WRs from getting production despite getting thrown at an average amount. I could see him getting a pick off QB Tyler Shough.

A bunch has gone wrong for the Bucs’ defense this season. But Dean hasn’t been among them. The Bucs strong-armed him into taking a big bite out of his contract and he responded like a total pro.

Dean has made himself cash this offseason. Now the only question is, from what team?

An even bolder prediction is saying he’ll be healthy the entire game🤞🏾

  2. Nick2 Says:

Jason light needs to come down off his high horse and realize he made a mistake and give Dean back the money and sign up to a contract now! Injuries are no injuries. He’s on the field the majority of the time and he’s the best corner we have by far.

2 things, tomorrow I expect the Saints to totally exploit McColumn. They would be crazy not to and leave Dean alone for the most part. McColumn, as I have said really needs to be benched. He is really hurting the team. Maybe on the bench he can get some swagger back and realize, if he continues to play the way he is he may not make it back to the field. With that said, why target Dean, he clearly is the best corner right now. He also appears to be pretty savvy. I mean he took a pay cut and bet on himself and is clearly winning. He is going to get paid next year and right now the Bucs can’t afford to let him leave. I admit I have been critical of the Dean in the past due to his inability to stay healthy and soft coverage. However, while missing games you can’t overlook his play.
Second: I am so happy on the current podcast to hear Ira say tackling has been an issue for a couple of years now!!. I mentioned that other day, why does this continue to be talked about, but it does not change. We hear it all the time, well we need to tackle better. So my question is why does this just get talked about over and over , but does not change. I think that is often quoted as the defination of insanity!!.
Poor pass defense, poor tackling, equals bad bad defense currently. Yes the offense needs to play light out,

Sunday be aggressive. Run up the score. Get Baker out of the game.

  5. BPBucsfan Says:

Well, we know it won’t be Chris Braswell that shocks anybody.

  6. Ugotrobbed Says:

The Bucs cut a players pay, and then he balls out (so far), then gives an astronomical raise to another player who then starts blowing chunks! Whoever made those calls needs to have their pay slashed! lol

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Bucs strong-armed him into taking a big bite out of his contract and he responded like a total pro.’

That’s exactly what I felt happened (only logical possibility?) BUT don’t have any proof. Any scuttlebutt Joe about what went on behind closed doors on THAT renegotiation?

Jamel has long been one of my favorite Bucs, and like any warrior, he can’t control the injuries. Out of 120 regular season games Bucs have had since Jamel got drafted, he’s played in 92 of them … 76.7% availability. Not the 90%-plus that we’d all love to see, but when he’s out there starting, he’s done very well. And compared to Carlton Davis (72.3% availability to date), Dean’s availability (76.7%) is somewhat higher. Then again, Dean’s purported replacement, Benjamin Morrison, has only suited up for 7 of our 12 games this season … 58.3% availability. Hmmm, maybe it’s the position that eats players.

Marky Mark … ‘Sunday be aggressive. Run up the score. Get Baker out of the game.’

Apparently supposed to be some significant rain tomorrow, during the game. THAT’S a big advantage for our Bucs, assuming of course that Grizz uses it wisely. Let Bucky, Rachaad & Tuck run the daylights out of the ball; New Orleans won’t be able to stop a good, rain-soaked running attack.

As far as ‘getting Baker out of the game’ goes, the earlier the better. Our remaining 2025 hopes are directly tied to him; don’t take unnecessary chances once we get ahead.

  9. dmatt Says:

What if Dean knew how to hold on to a potential int that he clearly gave to Winfield after Brissett threw it to him n he just as usual missed the ball.

  10. Vegasbuc Says:

    Fire Todd

  11. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Dean will get injured. He’s never available in the playoffs. Dean is soft.

  12. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

As in whomever plays qb for them, have a career day? Yes he will shock the world.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

Amazing how much better some players become after you take away all the guaranteed money and they are playing for a new contract.

Fat Cat Syndrome in full effect.

Hey ZM – you better get back to work son.

  14. Teacherman Says:

Go watch the play where Morrison got burned for a long TD.

    He can’t sprint!

He didn’t have a second gear to catch up to the WR who toasted him.

Morrison looks like a career backup at this point.

Dean has proven to be 10x better than Morrison.

I really hope we don’t give the starting CB job to Morrison next year.

    He’s not ready!

  15. First Last Says:

Zyon has that kind of smug look that really just reeks of a loafer that needs benched. I cannot believe I am saying it but I’m pro-Dean now.

  16. Nick2 Says:

Ba’s Red Pen, I’m pretty sure he was there for a Super Bowl run and every game he misses we seem to lose figure that out.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

Marine Buc … ‘Amazing how much better some players become after you take away all the guaranteed money and they are playing for a new contract.’

There HAS to be more to the story than what we’ve been told. No logical reason why Jamel would renegotiate a contract and lose many millions in the process. Bucs weren’t in a position to simply cut him without paying him the remainder of his original contract. And even if they did cut him, they were on tap for millions in Salary CAP hits.

Nah, has to be more to this story than we’re being told. come to think of it, that probably applies to most stories like this i guess.

  18. GoneGator Says:

I won’t be shocked if Dean gets a pick, or SVD or LVD or Tykee, AWJ.
Might be a little surprised if Zyon does 🤣

    Let’s go D!

  19. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Dean doesn’t want to play here so bad he took a $8 million pay cut to vacate the last year of his contract. So he could be a free agent after this season. Dean is having a career year because he’s betting on himself playing well. He’s setting himself up for his biggest payday. He’ll be gone next season. Some team is going to offer him a big longterm contract and he’s going go take it. Then us fans get to watch him blow up to be a top 3 corner on another team that knows how to not leave CB’s in bad positions to make plays.

  20. TheScourge Says:

Jamel Deans ability was never really questioned. His durability is the only concern and it’s a big concern. Giving him a big contract would be insane and pure hubris on JL’s part. It’s time to get younger and spend big for a pass rush.
