Physical! The Buccaneers came to play today, well, not really on special teams, but the defense was flying around in the cold Buffalo wind and the offensive line was winning consistently.
Hell, Baker Mayfield even started running and again and lowering his head.
It did not matter. The Bucs weren’t good enough against a very flawed Buffalo team battling its own injuries.
Buffalo rung up 400-plus yards of offense rather easily. Heck the Bucs owned time of possession.
Did the Bucs beat themselves? It sure feels like it.
Joe’s not sure what to say about the Bucs’ kickoff coverage units. “Horrible” isn’t a strong enough word. Buffalo’s first 5 kick returns went for 220 yards. That’s no typo and, ultimately, that might have been the difference the game.
The sad Bucs special teams get a slight edge over the Bucs’ non-existent edge rush and too-often fails in zone defense.
It was hyped Bills quarterback Josh Allen who looked flat early getting rattled with SirVocea Dennis in his face on the Bills’ opening drive. Allen delivered a ridiculously feeble two-hand throw from the end zone for a Jacob Parrish interception. It was great awareness by Parrish to release from the receiver and pick off the pass. But the Bucs had absolutely nothing in the red zone and only got three points.
The Bucs defense had its share of busts, too many, and they became lethal. It’s a tie for Joe’s least favorites:
First was the Bucs sending a three-man pass rush at Allen in the first half. It turned into a two-man pass rush with Vita Vea dropping in coverage a few seconds after the snap. Allen had all day to throw and found Tyrell Shavers (who?) wide open with YaYa Diaby (you ready that right) and Benjamin Morrison last absent in coverage. In the third quarter, it was Anthony Nelson responsible for James Cook out of the backfield; the TD catch was an easy 25-yard score.
The Bucs hammered away successfully on their rushing attack. Joe’s issue was them not sticking with it enough. Man, Joe would love to have 3rd-and-2 back with 7:30 remaining, a failed short route to Sterling Shepard.
The Bucs’ offensive line had a strong day. Baker Mayfield wasn’t sacked until the final offensive play of the game.
Tremendous kudos to Bucs running back Sean Tucker, who had 19 carries for 106 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Tucker also had 2 catches for 34 yards and another TD. The Bucs fed the hot hand and used Tucker more than Rachaad White (51 yards rushing, 11 receiving).
Now the Bucs sit at 6-4 in the dreary NFC South.
The “lull” Lavonte David feared is here. And it sucks.

This coaching is terrible. Non existent special teams coverage for 230 yards. Defense could stop this offense if they live depended on it. The most point ever given up by a Todd defense. Well it’s probably because i see the back of diaby & Nelson’s jersey in coverage on long touchdowns. Bowles has zero leadership traits. Licht, please just do the right thing this offseason. Your roster will never be maximized under this chump. My stomach sank as soon as he was announced to take over for BA.

No disagreement on special teams but anyone defending or absolving the defense is a pathetic loser.
THEY WERE TERRIBLE.
Coaches do a podcast and now they can’t be criticized for just how badly they screwed up. Bowles coverage schemes are a disaster unless we’re playing an incompetent QB like Spencer Rattler. Special teams has been ATROCIOUS all year save maybe 1 game. Grizzard finally a little better today but still blew too many 3rd down calls early play both conversion attempts.

What makes me hate Todd the most is his lack of personality. When you see successful coaches, they have no issues showing their rage when their teams screw up. This guy has the same facial expression all the time. What’s worse, he always blames fundamentals on his team’s failure, but never blames the coaching for those failures. He has no right preaching about his player’s mistakes, and never taking the blame for his failure to COACH them.

I have no issues with the offense today – you score that many points, you should win, or at worst it should be a Winston classic where it’s 35-32. Only gripe would be the 2 point conversion play selection, made no sense to be in shotgun when you’re running so well. Even the turnovers by Baker – while the INT was pretty bad, he did come out and get a TD next time to make it up, so no issues there. But the offense was fine, I’ll take this offense every week and take my chances.

Contrary to popular opinion, Baker had another bad day.
He was just Baker. He is what he is. He was ok. Some good. Some bad. Not the reason we lost. I still don’t know HOW or WHY he didn’t get rid of that ball there…. He had Shep wide-open underneath (I think it was, I’m not at home and watching on my phone). But, he of course, was only zeroed-in on going LONG AGAIN. It’s really PATHETIC.

Bowles absolutely deserves to be fired today. Im over this team. We’ve seen the movie too many times. At this point with this fraud as HC/DC I’ve become indifferent. I’ll feel the same next game at the Rams. F em.

Well, we lost for sure, and my heart is broken again. But is there a chance we beat the Rams ? You bet there is !! I admit it didn’t look good today, but I’m not jumping ship !!
It would be so nice if our Buccaneers pull off a win next week !!

Rams with a motivating coach vs a “stoic” one.
Moving on from Kupp ( fan favorite…but necessary ) while signing future Hall of Famer D. Adams vs Licht working with emotions by re-signing fan favorite ( but pretty much done ) Godwin…not to mention the early extensions by Licht just to “prove” his draft picks are special.
It’s going to be a beatin’ for The Bucs again next week…followed by some pillow fights down the stretch…many of which they’ll lose!

Players are important. Good coaching is more so. To be a premier HC in the NFL requires motivation and innovation. Bowles has neither.
Team with a coach that is motivator would make the Bucs into a top 6 team. Right now they are not a top 10 team despite their record. They do the same thing every season, start out well, break down in late Oct. come back to life the end of the season but roll into the play and lay a dud.
Losing 3 in a row is par for them and anyone that believes they will beat the Rams is dreaming. Good HC’s like Sean Payton, Sean McVay or Andy Reid will always tear up a Todd Bowles defense when the games mean something.
All the blown coverages the past 2 weeks prove the players aren’t buying whatever horse manure Todd is trying to teach them in team prep. They look confused and disoriented the past 2 weeks.

Dave Moore is the only one on 98 ROCK who has any credibility, I’ll give Deckerdorf credit (he makes listening to exciting) the rest of most are bought and paid for CLOWNS!

Godwin is done, Reddick is done, Evans won’t play more than 1 more season. But why should we trade? No. We’re Super Bowl contenders. Plus we have a defensive genius HC. WHAT could go wrong?
