Todd Bowles Expects Teams To Go After Benjamin Morrison

November 10th, 2025

Targeted.

Yesterday, backup corner Benjamin Morrison got exposed for being a raw rookie. And Bucs coach Todd Bowles got a little irked in his postgame remarks as he was under the impression the local pen and mic club was trying to out Morrison for the loss.

Today in his day-after presser, Bowles was asked if Morrison is targeted by opposing offenses.

Bowles has Morrison playing in a rotation with Jamel Dean. Bowles agreed, saying, yes, the Bucs believe opposing offenses will go after Morrison.

“Yeah, we understand that,” Bowles began. “I mean, that’s anybody that goes in the ball game as a backup at any position on either side of the football.

“But we have full confidence in Morrison. He’s been playing well, and he’s been doing a lot of good things for us. He just didn’t have a good day yesterday.”

Playing well against the slimy Saints — which Morrison did — and playing well against one of the best teams in the AFC are two different things.

Joe has two questions: If you know teams are going after Morrison, how about helping him out with coverages or schemes?

Joe’s uncomfortable using regular season games as training camp practices for Morrison to get work — yes, Joe knows Morrison missed a lot of time in underwear football season and training camp with injuries.

The other question is, do the Bucs have Dean on a pitch count?

Dean is probably having his best season of his career this year. Why wouldn’t you want your best defensive back on the field? Joe is beginning to wonder if the Bucs figured out that Dean’s injuries happen after he’s played X-amount of snaps and if he’s on a pitch count, that his chances of staying healthy skyrocket?

So far through nine games, Dean has missed just one and part of another. For Dean, that’s exceptional.

  1. Bucman Says:

He wears the same number used by Johnny Holt. Any long time fans recall how wonderful Mr Holt played?

  2. Thomas Edrington Says:

I would think teams would go after the HOLES IN THE DEFENSE that produced those two LONG runs from scrimmage by New England! Back breakers.

  3. Smarter than Joe Says:

Hey DB’s if the receiver jumps up close to the sideline PUSH THEM OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our coverage and players are softer than a Mike Evans hamstring

  4. Hodad Says:

We’re not irked at Morrison, we’re irked at you Bowles for setting the kid up to fail. Mid season during a playoff push is not the time for rookie training camp! He’s doing well? He gave up a 72 yard TD, you clueless fool. Your other pet project Dennis gave up a TD right up the gut. He’s doing well too. So is Braswell, YaYa didn’t have a sack again going against a rookie. He’s doing well too I supose? Glad the Glazers extended Bowles. It can be his golden parachute, fire the clown after the season please.

  5. Ufc e Says:

Maybe if our team played with their eyes and hands at the sane time.
Deep throws are a team problem always has been. Jump use your hands turn your heads and run and we still dont fing do it. You cant let someone get behind u on third and 14
You just cant. No safety help either which was puzzling

  6. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Daboll got canned ,,, he’s a real OC,,,
Need to promote grizzz to head of ticket sales and hire him ,,,, talk about being out coached yesterday ,, Vrabel and JM owned us

  7. Fred McNeil Says:

    That was pathetic.

  8. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Hopefully he’ll improve, but as of Nov 10 2025, Morrison is a liability out there.

Give Jamel Dean his reps back.

  9. Pmike Says:

The best way to learn is failure. Sucks but true. He’s not going to learn sitting on the practice squad or bench. Give him reps, we need to save our draft and cap money by developing our own players and being enabled to add when it matters

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Brian Daboll for OC?

  11. gotbbucs Says:

Teams that are competing for playoff spots and playoff seeding don’t put experiments on the field knowing that bad things are bound to happen. It’s not fair to the rest of the team.
The broadcasters were confused as to why Dean wasn’t on the field, and rightfully so, but those of us that follow the team knew that it was just Bowles sabotaging his team like he’s apt to do in the middle of the season.
Morrison didn’t have a training camp because…surprise, surprise, he was injured. They drafted him injured, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anybody in the organization.
Making Dean void years on his contract before camp had the desired effect on his play, and now Bowles doesn’t want to take advantage of it.

  12. 813BUCBOI Says:

    its called developing!!!

morrison cant develop in practice….he needs real reps…

i have no problem with morrison getting more reps…Dean is playing great!!!!….Zyon is struggling this year….i’d like to see Morrison rotate with Zyon more….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  13. CyberDilemma Says:

Bowles is dealing the hand he was dealt by Licht. The decision has been made that Dean will not be back next season, so Bowles is trying to slowly develop his replacement so he is not sending a CB out their full time next season without any game experience, which would be a formula for disaster.

  14. ocala Says:

Dumb decision by Coach Bowles. Would be refreshing if a coach would admit mistakes when it comes to something like this, but unlikely it would happen.

  15. jimmy Says:

nepo-back didnt have a good game. todd doesnt care, his buddy’s kid is gonna get reps.

  16. BuccinBaker6, Says:

Yaya played a good game he applied so many pressures an was so close on 2 sacks if the DBs would stick there guys Yaya would be having amazing season but instill think he gets damn close to 10 Sacks

  17. Outrigger Says:

This loss was clearly on Bowles. Leaving 7 points on the table (2 FGs and an extra point), having Morrison get his missed traing cam reps in the middle of a stretch playoff run and continually playing Dennis when he’s clearly been a liability all season. Thanks Todd!!! They aren’t going to get any easier the next two weeks.

  18. larrd Says:

Every corner gets burned. Morrison has seemed fine. He’ll probably be the starter next year so he needs to be in there playing.

I always thought safeties were the last defense. They didn’t show on four plays Sunday.

  19. RaShad Says:

Whatever is needed to get Dean into the playoffs healthy, im for it.

  20. I Remember 21 Says:

todd “day late and dollar short” bowles makes another appearance. Can’t wait for the confidence poll. Hopefully some of you that had been absolutely deluded into coach of the year talk (hahahahaha) will join team NO CONFIDENCE now and forever.

  21. SBucs Says:

The Bucs are a reflection of their head coach, lumbering, full of excuses and lack leadership and killer instinct.

  22. ocala Says:

Bucs need to franchise Jamal Dean. Not a wise decision to let him go based on how he has played in 2025.

  23. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    BBQ Benjamin

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Where was his help?

  25. Mhystc Says:

If Morrison should be rotating with anyone it’s Zyon..

  26. Beeej Says:

Morrison is Dean’s backup, can anyone remind me which season Dean has not missed several games?

  27. Bucs4Ever Says:

no pass rush=dbs giving up the booty

  28. ModHairKen Says:

The long runs. Think James Cook is looking forward to Sunday?

Vea and David and Winfield need to lead. This team needs to go to Buffalo and kick their ass.

  29. Beeej Says:

Can anyone name a season where Dean has NOT missed several games due to injury?

  30. Bucs since 76 Says:

Play Morrison against some of the easier teams on our schedule. I guess Bowles doesn’t care about getting the number one seed in the NFC

  31. DS Says:

Morrison needs zyons reps lol but they not gunna have 16 mil on the bench when they already have over 30 mil for injured WRs

  32. Waterboy Says:

If he wants to get Morrison experience then rotating him with McCollum would probably be less of a dropoff in production.

  33. Simeon4HOF Says:

Prime time for a confidence in Todd poll. Tired of our bipolar and suspect defense .. and especially the constant misleading the fanbase about injuries

  34. Tony Says:

Hopefully he works out but I questioned this one from the beginning. He was already injury prone coming out so WHY DEAL WITH IT AGAIN!

  35. FortMyersDave Says:

More Jamal Dean, less Morrison. If Zyon is flaming out, then put Morrison in for him.. Why does Todd set the D up to be exposed?

  36. Darin Says:

I guess he watched some of the game too. He just forgot to plan for it

  37. David Says:

He will be fine. ZYON got burned as well. So did our LBs on two huge running plays. The defense played great other than 4 plays. Not making excuses for them, those run should’ve never happened. No way New England should’ve scored more than 17 points against them.
All that said, the real tragedy was the offense. Scoring a TD on the opening drive, making it look easy, and then hibernating most of the rest of the game until the end.

  38. JW Says:

Insane he acknowledges teams will target the weakest CB on our team but all Sunday we targeted whoever Christian Gonzalez (a top CB in the league!!) was covering. Is there ANY game planning or scheming on the offensive side of the ball to exploit another team’s weaknesses? Liam was great at it, Grizzard is touting the same “fundamentals” and “execution” blame BS we hear from Bowles. Do YOUR job! Coach!!!

  39. Bradinator Says:

I get a kick out of all these commentators going on and on about how complicated Bowles’ defensive scheme is to play against. We’re typically at the bottom of the league in pass defense! When was the last time we were ranked even in the top 15 in the league? We used to be like running into a brick wall in the run game, but we got torched for two big TDs in the same game! For the Offense, time to admit Baker is more injured than they are letting on. He cannot hit a deep ball lately when he was right on them at the beginning of the season. Maybe it’s Teddy Time for a couple of games to let Baker get healthy for when we really need him.

  40. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bradinator

Commentators just love repeating “Exotic blitz package “ over and over

  41. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Todd Bowles Confidence Poll… My vote: Little to no confidence

  42. Drdneast Says:

I know of noone blaming the loss on Morrisson, I know plenty of people who are blaming Bowels who was stupid enough to put him in that situation.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

    Some numbers…

According to PFF numbers,Morrison only played 10 snaps. He was targeted 4 times, and gave up 4 completions.

Dean played 48 snaps, was targeted 4 times, gave up one completion.

Zyon played 61 snaps, was targeted 5 times, gave up three completions.

For the people whining about Winfield, he played 61 snaps, was targeted 3 times, gave up one completion for one yard – and people are acting like he had a terrible day.

Also it turns out that Nelson is not, in fact, a HOF’er – had the second lowest score on the day, only better than Morrison.

  44. KABucs Says:

Dean full time on opposing best WR.
McCollum & Morrison split time (maybe 60/40) and WR 2.
Keep Parrish full time in slot still please.

  45. Kenton Smith Says:

I have no problem getting Morrison play time. Makes our depth better. But Bowles deserves a bonehead of the day letting him play in a close game like yesterday. The kid hasn’t earned that right yet. Mop up duty he’s earned. Parrish has earned his spot. Everyone saying Dean won’t be back. The organization deserves a kick in the nuts if they let him go. You keep the good football players, that should go without saying. Let Morrison backup McCollum. McCollum needs some competition, and a fire lit under his a$$.

  46. Jmarkbuc Says:

If the team is not fundamentally sound and can’t execute, it’s not about physical ability. It’s about coaching.

Thats why you have a coaching staff. Grizzard’s play calling is exactly what it looks like. An overwhelmed, inexperienced first year OC..

  47. BucU Says:

How many times had Maye been sacked in the 3 games leading up to the Bucs game? 16 times? And how many sacks did the Bucs get on him? There’s your problem right there. Throw in a horrible offensive line and sprinkle in terrible play calling by the OC and you get losses.

  48. Jerseybuc Says:

    Yes. Daboll for OC !
Unfortunately ain’t going be this year

  49. Les Says:

PLEASE ,PLEASE , GET US A NEW HEAD COACH THST KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING ! POOR DECISION MAKING . CANT FIRE UP A TEAM . SAME RESULT EVERY YEAR ! ONE AND DONE EVEN WITHOUT INJURIES ! DEFENCE HAS NOT GOTTON BETTER . WE LET TONY DUNGEE GO FOR LESS ! FOR NOT GETTING OVER THE HUMP ! BUT EVERY YEAR WITH BOWLES ? SAME RESULT .

  50. Buccup Says:

Isn’t Dean in a contract year?? Of course he’s going to play his heart out. It’s the other 4 years that he takes a half a season off with “injuries.”
