Baker Mayfield

So what must Baker Mayfield do today in order to up Tampa Bay’s record to 7-2 and show the NFL the Bucs are worthy of Super Bowl conversation?

Today’s Bucs-Patriots game at The Licht House has the attention of national media and is a clash of quarterbacks having MVP-caliber starts to their seasons.

Ex-Bucs assistant coach Herm Edwards, the former Chiefs and Jets head coach, was on ESPN TV this morning barking about a Mayfield stat that showcases how successful he is throwing on the run.

Mayfield has 161 yards passing while scrambling this season, second only to Patrick Mahomes.

That’s a massive key today, per Edwards, who says Mayfield needs to make plays with his legs with key Bucs receivers out. “Play a little bit of chaos football with this ball,” Edwards says, noting extending plays is a good fit against the Patriots defense.

And that comes back to Mayfield’s health. He didn’t have one official rushing attempt in the past two games, a virtual siren that Mayfield was playing injured. For Joe, that includes not running one quarterback sneak two weeks ago despite eight attemps from the 1 yard line.

“This Joe” (not the other Joe) suspects a healthy Mayfield (knee, oblique) with Luke Goedeke (foot) starting at right tackle — if they’re both legitimately healthy — puts the Bucs in the win column today.

  1. Permanently Moderated Says:

No reason the Bucs should lose this game. Patriots are a paper tiger.

  2. Oldbucsfan Says:

The uninjured “MVP” Baker needs to show up. If he comes out there over throwing receivers again, and not being mobile, then it’s gonna be a problem.

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

This Falcons Colts game in Berlin is a good one. Those rookie defensive linemen, Pearce and Walker, just strip sacked Jones. Midway through 3rd quarter 17-13 Falcons. The Colts got some studs at trade deadline. Only time I’ll be rooting for the Falcons.

  4. Aqualung Says:

It’s about the rookie OC performing like a professional and the OL realizing they’re supposed to block guys rather than wave them through.

  5. Whatevs Says:

Great news. Due to our top of the line medical staff, the entire team is healthy and will play today.

    Thank Todd.

  6. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

    F the falcons

  7. Gipper Says:

Baker has had a rough couple of weeks, no doubt, due to injuries. Rod Munch became invisible when Baker was in the lead for MVP. Not surprising that a few rough weeks from Baker has Munch re-emerging from his hole. Hoping that Baker throws 4TD today, Bucs win, and Munch resumes pouting in exile.

  8. Pmike Says:

24-28 pts should win this game. Come on offense!

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Hey Joe

    What uni’s Bucs wearing today?

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Baker plays well – he’s the MVP and 100% doing it on his own.

Baker plays bad – well of course he’s injured, plus guys are running the wrong routes, nothing is his fault.

Which Baker do we get today?

  11. Jim in AR Says:

Rod, perhaps a few posters fit your description, but most folks here appear to have a realistic view of Mayfield. He is a top 5 QB when he and his teammates are healthy. He is in the top 8-14 when he and his mates are not.

  12. Kenton Smith Says:

Jonathon Taylor is a stud. 83 yard TD run, 22-27 Colts. 6 minutes for the Falcons and Penix looks shook. 22-17 Colts.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

    Falcons scored too early…

Well, assuming Daniel Jones hasn’t turned back into a pumpkin.

  14. HC Grover Says:

Tough game. Gotta hit some deep balls and do not try the Tush Push.

  15. HC Grover Says:

    Need over 30 points…..

  16. Kenton Smith Says:

Falcons kickoff team looks like ours 6 weeks ago.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

The stupid new ridiculous kickoff rules are turning the NFL into Arena Football, meaning you can’t expect to keep any lead if you leave more than 30 seconds on the clock.

  18. MikeBuc Says:

    @ Rod Munch

Which Baker do we get today?
    ——-

Like Gipper said – hopefully the one that makes you go back into that hole you lived in since Trask was released

  19. Rod Munch Says:

MikeBuc – Hopefully the good Baker shows up and the Bucs win, that’s what I want. You Baker Boi(s) are still mad that Trask outplayed Baker in the preseason two years ago – and you’re the only ones that ever bring him up. Anywho, do me a favor and go shove your face in a blender. God bless.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Some free advice for the Colts.

    Give the ball to Taylor.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

    Falcons lose. LOL!

  22. Kenton Smith Says:

    They took your advice Rod.

  23. St.Pete Salty Buc Says:

Winston, Trask, Bridgewater, yo mammie? Let’s Shake n Bake and Fire those Cannons!! Second half of the season…. LET’S GO BUCS!!!

  24. DBS Says:

Trask is unemployed . Tells you all you need to know. No team wants him even if they lose their QB.
