Another Rage Game For Baker Mayfield

November 7th, 2025

Baker Mayfield loves to dig up old wounds and feed off them.

Heck, after the Bucs beat the Jets in Week 3, Mayfield ranted about how the Jets defensive coordinator cut him off the Panthers’ roster three years ago.

That seemed to come from nowhere, considering Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was the Panthers interim head coach in 2022 with Mayfield.

Wilks was presiding over a team that Carolina ownership was dismantling. The team was tanking and already had traded Christian McCaffrey and others. Plus, everybody knows an interim head coach has as much power over a roster as former Bucs head coach Raheem Morris did with Tampa Bay in 2009. Bucs ownership had made a decision to toss veterans to the curb.

Wilks even fired back to say Mayfield was reaching for nonsense.

That brings Joe to Sunday.

Josh McDaniels is the Patriots offensive coordinator who will try to dissect the Bucs defense. McDaniels also is the guy who was the Raiders head coach in 2023, when the Raiders needed a starting quarterback. Did he sign Mayfield? No. Instead the Raiders gave Jimmy Garoppolo a three-year $72.5 million contract while Mayfield got a bag of cashews and the right to allegedly compete with Kyle Trask in Tampa.

Given how Mayfield’s brain works, Joe believes Mayfield has serious beef with McDaniels, especially considering their history.

He cant throw the ball long because of that lower torso oblique injury on his throwing hand side.

  2. Truth be Told Says:

Whatever it takes to get motivated and play better I’m all for it. Baker is a stud. We need to pound the Patriots here and establish ourselves as one of the go to teams in the NFC. Go Bucs!

  3. 813bucboi Says:

put em in the oven baker!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. White Tiger Says:

    Whatever it takes!

  5. Bojim Says:

Its funny how Jimmy G always has lucked into the big money. He’s a filthy rich backup.

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Man, just put points up and protect the football.

Baker wasn’t ranting first of all, he mentioned it. I don’t think you can blame him. Wilkes didn’t have to demote Baker to 3rd on the depth chart. He could have restored him to 1 on the chart. Instead he made PJ Walker 1 on the depth chart. I’m sure management allowed Wilkes that much leeway as far as who got to play. That’s when Baker asked for and received his release. Wilkes effectively made Baker the scapegoat for what Matt Rhule and he screwed up. Baker was never given a fair chance in Charlotte.

  8. Louis Friend Says:

The linked story doesn’t say much of anything about Mayfield with McDaniels.

Mayfield has no problem motivating himself on game day. Whether it’s McDaniels, the Boston accent, Boston Chicken competing against Popeye’s or that time he stubbed his toe on the beach at Cape Cod – he’ll find something to occupy his shoulder chip.

Tough matchup. Pats been cruising. They have this one circled as one of the toughest tests of the season. Bucs need to be dialed. This is a playoff team. If we lose to Eagles, Lions and 2 of the next 3, then the Bucs are pretenders. These next couple games will define the season.

    Garrapolo is Ryan Griffins idol😂

Ben’s got it right! This is a must game. Loose it and we are very likely not going to make to the Promised Land.

  13. westernpennafan Says:

One good thing that nobody has mentioned is that with the drop off of the Buc’s offensive stats quieted all the MVP talk and losing to Philly and Detroit has allowed Baker and the Buc s to slip back under the radar of the “Fake News” and their hype which we all know is psyche out rat poison that the team and especially the young guys don t need to hear. Baker too for that matter.

The Pats are walking into an ambush this week.

At the time of the demotion to Mayfield had played 92% of the snaps that season. If he completed the year playing more than 70% of the snaps Cleveland would have been due a 4th round pick….below 70% and the compensation would be a 5th round pick. Once the decision to dismantle the team and rebuild was made there was no way Mayfield was going to be allowed to finish playing out the year as the starter.

Hopefully BM6 plays like he did earlier in the season! He can carry the offense if at 90% effective. This should be a good test if Goedeke plays and the RG is serviceable. This is a winnable game. Execute! Make plays! Get it done!!

  16. infomeplease Says:

Bucs need a FAST START on both sides of the ball!!

    What White Tiger said.

You guys are funny doubting the Bucs cause they lost to Phily and Detroit,,, they also beat SF and Seattle ,,, the pats will be exposed and Mayes MVP will be put to bed by Todd Bowls D ,,, we not only win but we will go to Orchard Park and beat the Bills (stop Cook and you stop the Bills) ,, Rams will be tough but who knows ,, who won’t take 2-1 over the next three

  19. Bartow Buc Says:

Interesting story about McDaniel, apparently, the coaching job in Vegas was way over his head. Exemplified by the decision he made to pick Garoppolo over Baker. Hopefully he calls plays as bad as he coaches.
Mc Daniel won’t know what to do when Todd Bowles disassembles his offensive squad.
Baker will start something on the field to provide extra sparks if needed. That’s what I love about him, he is such a competitive quarterback and fights right down to the end of the game !!

Hang on to your chairs Bucs fans!! This is going to be quite a contest !!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Patriots!!

  20. Delson Says:

I don’t think we can judge our post season success until we get there. We’re still a partial team. We can look very different given the offensive injuries. Heck keeping hutchinson at zero sacks was due 2 Baker anticipating that pressure. Expecting n feeling it more. I don’t think he is reliable at tackle. Don’t kno what kind of shape physically Godeoke will be in or what rust he has. We gotta free up emeka with tez n shepard. 1 thing I won’t do is doubt this team. IMHO our defense is stepping up early n showing signs of shutdown capability. Consistency would be nice but this end of the season experience is valuable. Offense will click we’ve seen it all last year. Special teams is clicking. Defense like I said is getting there. Sko Bucs

  21. Oscar Says:

Gottidog, I didn’t think of that as a reason. If what you say is true then it made sense to try to get rid of him in which case I was wrong. Thanks for the info.

  22. Drdneast Says:

I’d rather buy that heckler from the Seattle game a ticket next to the players tunnel so he can heckle Mayfield before the game.
