Todd Bowles Gives An Update On Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving And Luke Goedeke

October 28th, 2025

Hoping for “things.”

So what the hell is going on with injured Bucs? Are they playing after the bye or will we even see them before Christmas?

Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles briefly discussed Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving and Luke Goedeke, three critical pieces to the offense, all of whom are dearly needed in a suddenly stagnant Bucs offense.

Bowles was brief and vague in his day-after presser on Monday.

So what’s going on with the three?

“I think that will be discussed at the end of the week,” Bowles said. “I think those guys will start doing some things this week depending on the progress they make.”

What exactly these “things” are, Bowles did not say.

If any of the three can do “things,” then Bowles said the next step could be a real practice next week.

“We will see how practice goes next week if they can get some things done this week,” Bowles said. “I do not have a timeline on it either, [we] just have to see how they are progressing.”

So in other words, status quo.

So the update is there is no update? Cool.

  2. FrontFour Says:

At least he responded with something other than, “Not at this time.”

  3. Goldenbuc Says:

Sounds like they have to pass some physicals:

Chris has to strengthen his leg after major surgery, he was rushed back and was not yet ready

Bucky got hurt on the same hip drop tackle that just took out Cam Skattebo on Sunday, from the same team. He too was probably majorly hurt, high grade ankle sprain

Lukes foot was fractured most likely

Bucs are moving cautious Becuase of how they rushed Chris back. Probably won’t admit it. That’s my guess

  4. heyjude Says:

    Three things!

  5. Chuckys Bucs Says:

Do your job Joes and investigate!! Tired of the no news articles.

  6. Zwak Says:

Godwin shouldn’t return until next year. Unless we make the playoffs.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Understand perfectly now. The update on Godwin & Irving is that they’re both still on the active roster but, oh ya, there is no update on when they can play.

Meanwhile the update on Goedeke, Evans & McMillan is that all 3 are on IR but, oh ya, there is no update on them either.

Gut feel is that Todd Bowles really has no clue at this point in time as to when any of those 5 key players will return to the field.

  8. BucU Says:

Absolutely ridiculous with this team. They think 1 Buc Place is CIA Headquarters.
Resigning Godwin in retrospect was a huge mistake. 22 Mil this year for 1.25 games played. 6 catches. 52 yards. 0 TD’s. Horrible investment. I’m starting to think that signing Gedeke to a big contract was also a huge mistake. We need players that actually play football.

  9. BucsFan81 Says:

Sounds like we will be rolling with the same players we have now after the bye week. It is starting to look like the Godwin signing was bad. Not sure he is ever going to be right again.

  10. Razorramone Says:

    Hip drop got Chris too.

  11. Vanessa Anne Says:

As frustrating as the non-answers are, I get it.

All it takes is one person to step up to the podium and say “so and so will be back on such and such date”, for the fun to begin.

Every media outlet, every news journalist will mark that date on their calendars.

And when that date arrives and so-and-so isn’t on the field because the rehab is taking a little longer than expected, all you-know-what will break loose.

The added speculation… the additional scrutiny… the insistence that the person who gave the original date step up to the podium and answer more questions about “why they told us such-and such date when they knew it wasn’t true, etc.

Then, of course, there will be all of those same questions directed at other members of the coaching staff/management about ‘why did this person say so-and-so will be back on this date… yada yada.

In this case, if you’re the Bucs coaching staff, you need that like you need a hole in the head.

Joe, I respect and appreciate you and the rest of the media doggedly staying on top of the injury timelines. Thank you.

We’re just as frustrated as you folks in the media must be.

But, from the Bucs’ perspective “I don’t know” or “we’ll see how he’s coming along” is the best way to avoid creating a nice little sideshow three ring circus they don’t need when the focus should be on winning ball games.

Bowles could work for Putin. Talk and say nothing.

  14. Paratrooper Buc Says:

The lateral part of fibula is part of the ankle. Did Godwin take a random hit or is his injury a result of weakness in his ankle? If Godwin doesn’t have enough tensile strength in his tendons and ligaments, then all the muscle strength in the world doesn’t matter and he will hurt that area again. Feel bad for him but if he comes back and has the same issue, I sadly suspect his career is over.

  16. Daryl Green Says:

See, I’m with all my Buccaneers brother and sisters. Todd pisses me off fn… bleep…… Ram’s receiver hurts his ankle he’s been out two weeks he coming back.
Luke been out a long time his fractured foot ain’t healed yet!!! And the God please. I have other things I want to say but I respect the Joes🤙🏾👊🏾👊🏾 I’m pissed

  18. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

    Nice click bait

  19. Lt. Dan Says:

    Well said Vanessa.

  20. ocala Says:

I think Godwin had a stress reaction in his fibula. They had to be careful it did not turn into a stress fracture. If that is his issue he probably can be back against the Patriots, but they need to gradually increase his playing time for the next three or four games as he ramps back into it.

  21. Winny Testaverde Says:

Godwin & Goedeke look so hobbled…I’m not counting on them returning with any effect this season.

Bucky’s double injury is also troubling…but not season ending in my opinion. And boy does the offense need him back.

G & G could barely put weight on their leg/foot. That’s an awful sign.

  22. Outrigger Says:

Godwin or no Godwin, we still need to pick up another receiver either through free agency or trade. JMac is still in a neck brace and it has been reported he won’t return until at least week 14. Even if Godwin returns, he’ll probably be a shell of the player he was last year. Tough games ahead. We can’t win them with 2 rookies and Shepherd.

  23. Smarter than Joe Says:

Don’t expect Godwin to be productive until 2026, if ever again

Luke G and Bucky need to be back, run game and O Line looks BAAAAADDDD

Not sure if it’s the injuries or Liam Coen leaving but the run game is a problem

  26. Pmike Says:

Pretty obvious that Bowles does not want to give other teams a competitive advantage by giving them information on who to prepare for.

Good for him, don’t understand why that bothers fans, unless this is ruining your fantasy league lol

  27. #1bucsfan Says:

Godwin was a good signing. Give it some time. Some of yall have no patience. You should be more concerned about him as a person vs a player. He tried to come back for his team and fans and had a set back and yall are crying like he pissed in your Cheerios.

  28. View from 132 Says:

    TL;DR We’ll see.

  29. eoschwartz Says:

What many in the fan base and media aren’t recognizing is the NFC has 3 really good teams that are stronger than the Bucs, Green Bay, Philadelphia and the Lions.

Unless the Bucs can get a couple of wins in their next 3 games vs Patriots at home, then the Bills and Rams on the road they are in serious danger of dropping seed and having to play on the road should they make the playoffs.

The way their offense has been performing against a bad defense at New Orleans and a depleted defense at Detroit, with the WR, Oline and RB positions missing firepower, I can’t expect them to put up points ba these teams.

Licht has to recognize that Godwin, Irwin and Goedke are not going to contribute in less the are 100% therefore as much as he values draft picks he has an opportunity to win now and if he can trade for some backups that are still average or sitting because other younger players have outperformed, he has to get that extra WR, particularly a physical one, a running back with more burst than White and a guard which would let them move Barton to right tackle which would be an upgrade over Heck. Bredeson can move back to center, he was better than Barton has been. Give up a 4th, 5th or 7th for a healthy body.

  30. firethecannons Says:

The Bucs needs to move on from this trio, it is too late in the season for this nonsense–they are not even practicing besides playing and being good in a game. We need to optimize who we have on the field. These injured warriors need to find their own way back to the battle. In the meantime we have to keep winning.

  31. White Tiger Says:

Healthy players were given the week off, injured players were told to keep getting treatment. There won’t be an update until next week.

  32. TombsEN Says:

Some of you all have zero comprehension skills, Bowels is answering the question he is asked he just isn’t dumbing it for you all and you can’t handle that. If the dudes are healthy enough to start moving this week they will practice next week if they practice next week most likely they will play. My god what’s so hard to understand about that???

  33. jcscycles Says:

Along with Phantom Whistles, Hip Drop tackles are illegal, but the officials never call them. And players keep getting injured, most needing surgery. See Chris Godwin and Cam Skattebo.

Bucky Irving was lucky in that he didn’t need surgery, but who knows when he returns. Thank the Eagles for Bucky and Cam.

Why cannot this be stopped and teams/players fined and suspended? What does the NFL get for permitting this to continue?

  34. LawrenceDawsey Says:

Sounds like all 3 of them won’t be back for at least a game or 2. We need bucky more than the other 2, especially for this 3 game stretch but sounds like he’s gonna be sidelined for at least one more game

  35. Old Sombrero Says:

Makes sense to not say anything and there’s no rush to get them backed based on the schedule. Falcons are on the road against the Patriots this week. The Panthers are on the road against the Packers this week. The Bucs could return after the bye with an even better position and they could lose to the Pats when the return and likely be in the same position they’re in now. Provided they don’t take on more injuries it’s possible Bucky, Godwin, Goedecke could continue healing and not return until the Rams game which may be more impactful of a game. Rams lost to San Fran and will play them again. And we beat Seahawks and they’ve yet to play the Rams. If Rams split San Fran and Seahawks games and Bucs beat Rams, the Bucs are in a good position for home field advantage for playoffs. So, I would not be surprised if there’s a no rush mentality to getting guys back. Let’em heal.

  36. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Trade deadline a week from today,,,, I’m pretty sure Bowels thinks the D is fine and they have played better ,,, The O needs help,, a real RG rental for a half year ,,, a number 2 or 3 WR to go with our rookies and shep,, beyond that I think we could be OK,, the NE game will be interesting to see what we look like after the bye , rest and healing time

  37. MikeCK Says:

Hopefully McMillan comes back after the Bye at least.

  38. Permanently Moderated Says:

I’m curious why Goedeke has been in a walking boot all this time if his foot is that bad.

  39. larrd Says:

It sounds okay to me. They’ll be moving around some this week and if all goes well practicing next week.

  40. Saskbucs Says:

The secrecy so you can surprise other teams angle is nonsense.

Did we surprise the Lions by having Evans and Egbuka out there? Nope, got dominated.

  41. KABucs Says:

We’ll either get them back or we won’t. If we ever do get McMillan and Godwin back at the same time, the offense will be rolling. Will be nice to get Bucky and Goedeke back as well but no use complaining about it. They’re either going to play or they aren’t going to play.
We’re 6-2… most of those wins without any of those guys.
The defense is starting to pick it up.
    Too much whine around here.

  42. unbelievable Says:

Joe you forgot to include the word “doesn’t ” in the title of this article.

Let me help: “Todd Bowles doesn’t give any actual update on Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving and Luke Goedeke”.

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

I think if ME wasn’t piggybacking that defender, and he completes that catch, that game would have gone MUCH differently.

    It still pisses me off.

  44. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Thank you, Lt. Dan

  45. Brennanp Says:

I saw some comments about ppl saying paying Godwin was a mistake. You ppl are not real fans. What a shame. How in the world could one say that after what he’s meant for us on & OFF the field. His ankle snapped in half. Give him some time Jesus

  46. Tampa=Ty Says:

I understand you want to keep certain things close to the chest for competitive reasons but Todd’s lack of transparency is killing my fantasy team…
