“By No Means Was That Up To Our Standards Offensively”

October 26th, 2025

The Bucs’ glorious 23-3 blowout of the slimy Saints today left nearly every Bucs fan scratching their head about the Tampa Bay offense.

What’s going on with the offensive line?

What’s with Baker Mayfield over the past couple of weeks? Why did playcaller Josh Grizzard go from magical to middling in the same time period?

“By no means was that up to our standards offensively,” Baker Mayfield said of today’s performance in New Orleans.

His comments came on the Buccaneers Radio Network, where Mayfield issued a “my goodness” when referencing how well the Bucs’ defense and special teams played.

Mayfield finished 15-of-24 for 152 yards passing. He ate 3 sacks and didn’t run for a yard — for the second consecutive game. The latter stat tells Joe that Mayfield is far more banged up than it appears.

The bye week is coming at the perfect time.

    Play calling needs improvement

  2. Tbswarm Says:

I just think the oline and baker are tired and banged up. A week of rest is going to do wonders.

  3. Tbbucs3 Says:

Baker hasnt looked great the last 2 weeks

  4. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Our D was dominating – therefore there is less need to take risky shots downfield. This was not a shoutout game. Offense could’ve done much better, but conservative play calling worked. The goal is the W, not stats.

  5. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

    Is Wirfs injured

  6. Deuceswild78 Says:

The online and baker will rebound… but the play calling will sink the ship if we can’t get more creative

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Saints are not a NFL caliber roster. That game should’ve been 45-3

  8. Nano107 Says:

    Bye week TGIByeweek

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’ve said this weeks ago….. Josh Grizzard is trash……awful….he’s over his head and doesn’t need to ever be an offensive coordinator for any team…EVER!!!!!!

  10. Kenton Smith Says:

Think he has an injured oblique affecting his throwing and a knee slowing down his running. A couple of weeks extra recovery time is really gonna help this team.

  11. Les Says:

Gizzard needs to stop so many plays up the middle 4 trys at the 1 and not get it is ridiculous! Does giz know what a screen pass is when getting rushed ? How about mor roll outs or pass3s to the flat . Im not sold on this guy yet .I have yet to see some creative plays .

  12. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

    Anthem – lol!

I know you’re serious, which is why it’s so funny.

  13. JimBobBuc Says:

Two bad offensive games. Our hottest player, Tez, even had a drop. Thank god for Nelly, the D, and Chase’s long leg.

  14. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Gizzard is now playing Joe Fox Play to Not Lose Football. I hope tehy get a decent Offensive Coordinator next year.

  15. Tbbucs3 Says:

Can we sign 51 year old Mike Alstott? Pretty sure he could still get a TD at the 1 yard line on 4 attempts.

  16. Chris K Says:

Is BucsAnthem all there? Just a troll I hope for his sake..

  17. Frank Pillow Says:

Our OC has been exposed. Film don’t lie.

  18. Oxycondomns Says:

5 out of 6 times run up the middle from 1 yd line. reminds me of canales. i wonder if bowles is more involved with play calling from last season. the white screen was a good call need more of that. did liam patent the 2 back field sets why cant the griz incorporate that more. use otten in the red zone

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Wiz Kid called an awful game, he’s most to blame for today with his ultra predictable play calling BS.

But Baker stunk for the 2nd game in a row. I really wanted to see him come out and play well, and he didn’t. It wasn’t just some missed throws (he wasn’t that bad this week in that regard) but it was more about him holding the ball, holding the ball, holding the ball, then getting hit or taking sacks. Yeah, the blocking wasn’t great, but Baker wasn’t helping. He needs to snap out of it or the Bucs are about to go on a 3-game losing streak coming out of the bye.

  20. What it is Says:

Baker is banged up, he would never say a word about it. It’s just the way he is.

  21. Tbswarm Says:

To the people complaining about the play calling… why show creativity against a terrible team? Wait until you go against a better opponent and get them off guard. This was basically a preseason game with the starters in.

Their goal was to do enough to get the W with as fee injuries as possible and they did.

  22. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Those 4 plays up the middle were a joke. If he’s going to try that BS, take Baker Mayfield out and line up Rashad White as QB. Mayfield can’t run a bootleg? Josh Gizzard sucks.

  23. VOT Says:

Atrocious play calling a few times today, the new OC is not looking good right now

Thankfully we were playing a Pop Warner team…

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

Let’s all remember that this dominating defensive performance was against… the 29th ranked Saints.

Really hoping we can get it together in two weeks. We look fried.

  25. Billlbuc Says:

Play calling sucked ., oline sucked including Wirfs. White sucked .., our OC sucked . What a great game for our D even though the refs sucked and the score should have been worse otherwise . If our offense showed up it would have really gen ugly . Baker looks the Baker the media wants to hate and lived up to that Baker.

  26. unbelievable Says:

Baker missed 1 early and was a just a tad late on that throw to EE in the end zone, but otherwise played okay. He looked like he moved okay on that scramble before the throw, but otherwise he’s not running much and still taking hits.

I’m more concerned with how Wirfs looked today. Everyone is entitled to a down day, but that just looked so out of the norm for him.

Entire o-line has been getting pushed around. Truth is every game this season we’ve needed magic from Baker’s legs to get the win. Every time. That isn’t sustainable. Need some WRs and more consistent blocking.

  27. Lightningvinny1 Says:

6-2 ,,,, a worst case scenario is 11-6 ,,, best case is 13-4 ,,,, Couldn’t ask for more ,,,, Anyone that is bitching about it is a Jack Wagner

  28. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

If the last 2 weeks is how Baker looked his last year in Cleveland, I can totally understand why they wanted to move on from him/ upgrade.

Hopefully he snaps out of it soon.

Jon Fox, not Joe Fox, smh

    Proofread, people.

    –Horrible take, BTW.–

  30. 813bucboi Says:

The entire offense is banged up IMO….

Defense is starting to get healthy and it’s showing…..

DEAN has been balling all year!!!!!!

We need to take advantage of the bye week and do out best to get healthy

    6-2

    GO BUCS

  31. Scott Says:

That offensive display was hard to watch.

  32. Oxycondomns Says:

did baker run for any first downs today? there was a short one he could have made but last second he threw an incomplete pass to otten . he definitely has something going on hopefully its whats causing his inaccuracy.

Yeah the year he played injured which is probably what he’s doing now. Maybe we should trade him at the deadline.. moron.

  34. unbelievable Says:

Baker wasn’t the issue today IMO, it was much more the o-line. Like I said he missed 1 or 2 but otherwise I don’t think he’s the main culprit today. We had very poor protection all day in the passing game. Again.

Our WRs also need to get stronger hands to fight through catches. Been an issue all season with everyone, including Evans before he was injured.

  35. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    Was Canales calling plays today?

Why can’t the Bucs use Vita on 1st and goal? He play RB in HS

What is wrong with throwing to Otten in the Red zone? He is a big target and can catch.

Baker, where was your moxie today? Why trash talk if you don’t back it up?

The inadvertent whistle on the CLEAR Winfield TD was the most disgusting play.

  36. unbelievable Says:

    6-2 is 6-2 though. We’re in a great spot.

Get healthy and get ur ish together for week 10.

  37. Sumosam Says:

I don’t know what happened to the O line but Baker has no time to do anything and 5 times to run into the end zone? Those play calls make no sense.

  38. Baking with Grizz Says:

Yes Scott. The offense was offensive.
Thank God for the bye week.
Grizz might still be our OC next season.

  39. Inwoodjeremy Says:

5 things article should headline with a picture of ref blowing a whistle.

  40. Coburn Says:

Baker def does need to learn that it’s ok to throw the ball away sometimes. There were other plays where it was obvious they were all going to come and needed a quick slant or something. It’s like ok get rid of this thing fast… Nope. Didn’t happen

  41. DBS Says:

It looked like Baker had a limp. He couldn’t run as fast or avoid tackles like he usually does,

  42. Outrigger Says:

My favorite play call of Grizz today was the fade in the corner of the end zone to
5 ft 9 Shepherd. Should have been picked.

  43. Gotti-Dog-05-20-84 Says:

Mayfield’s dealing with injury(s) …The two times he slid a couple of weeks ago, his reluctance to run and his passes not having the same accuracy and velocity are all indicators that something is amiss. Not to mention the Bridgewater sighting today.

Perfect time for the bye week…..

  44. buc4evr Says:

play calling was so bad I have to believe that Grizz was trying to protect Baker. At least I hope that was the case? O line including Barton and Wirfs looked really bad. They were getting owned. NO stopped the Bucs 7 times on the one foot line The 8th time Heck was able to pull Tucker across the line.

  45. Outrigger Says:

Chase Young is a mediocre defensive end who has bounced from team to team since being drafted. Today, Wirfs made him look like the second coming of Lawrence Taylor. I have never seen Tristen play worse than he did today

  46. Danny Mac Says:

Baker is definitely banged up. Perfect time for the bye week.

  47. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Great first 8 games , enjoy the week off

  48. richbucsfan Says:

Hmmm…nice stock statement. But, then again our culture has been trained to not believe their eyes and ears. Say all you want about “definitely not up to our standards…” until the ‘standards’ are achieved what we are seeing is reality. Harsh? Nope, just brutally honest.

  49. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

@unbelievable: “Our WRs also need to get stronger hands to fight through catches… including Evans…”

I was with you until you included ME. STFU. ME caught that ball on the play he got knocked out. The ground can’t cause a fumble. Yeah, he drops some, but the catches he makes are spectacular.

  50. BigBoiBuc Says:

Baker has upper body issue not being talked about
Wirfs sitting on his big paycheck, needs to start playing
We wanted to cut Chase, remember? Wow.
    Culp, why isn’t he playing?
Durham, had 21 red zone TDs in college. Throw the ball up to him.
Offense needs to rest up and recharge
31 robbed on his TD. Boles needs to be up the head officials a$$. Quit smiling when he talks to them.

  51. firethecannons Says:

Tristan Wirfs is turning into a penalty magnet–yeah I said that– he was good for 2 unnecessary penalties and that is not helping us

  52. Saskbucs Says:

Yeah the OL wanting the game on their shoulders didn’t go well today. They got abused again.

  53. firethecannons Says:

I like everything BBB just said–bigboibuc get licht to do the talking, perhaps a conference with all the Bucs front office and the officials. Who specifically blew the damn whistle–no one heard it. we have Durham–wtf isn’t he in the game??????

  54. SenileSenior Says:

Baker is banged up! Grizzard is still a rookie. Still, the offense looked better in the second half. Let see how we look after the Bye. We’ve got the Patriots, Bills and the Rams coming up.

    Go Bucs!!

  55. HeartyDickerson Says:

We have a finesse o-line. They’re athletic and pretty good on the move, but they’re not powerful, nasty road graders. Coen knew this and took advantage with how he designed run plays.

Grizz doesn’t see this. His run scheme looks so basic and elementary by comparison.

  56. Robert Says:

1st and goal from the one. 4 plays in a row. Exactly the same. Roll out for Pete’s sake. If this offense doesn’t improve this team will be one and done come playoff time.

  57. #1bucsfan Says:

My biggest complaint is let’s run the ball up the gut 5x in a row for 0 yards. COME ON GRIZZ

  58. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

The only silver lining I can think of right now on offense is that, as of now, we are absolutely NOT in danger of having Grizz move on to a HC job after the season.

Although, we might actually want to fire him after the season and try a new OC if Grizz continues to suck like this.

  59. Falconrap Says:

While the playcalling at the goal line sucked, overall, it wasn’t that bad. We had some wide-open misses by Mayfield had a couple of drops that should have been caught. Happens. We are seriously banged up and need this bye-week bad. If we get Bucky and Goedeke back, that will be huge. If Godwin can get healthy and return, then we’ll be in really great shape. Baker and Egbuka need to get fully healthy during this week off. They should just not practice until next week, letting the back-ups take those reps for now. We need this team healthy to get through the next 4 game stretch. Get through it 3-1 or better, and we’re totally in the driver seat for the South, with a shot at home field advantage.

  60. Woodman Says:

Really people still complaining after another win this fan base is a tough. 6-2 and it is still Todd’s fault,Grizz sucks,Tristan Wirfs sucks, never stops.

  61. Rod Munch Says:

I was listening to the Saints post-game radio broadcast, and they had Bobby Hebert filibustering for like 40 minutes straight. I think they literally didn’t have any callers. Speaking of which, Bobby was pretty dull and being pretty boring, then he seemingly just got sick of being PC, and attacked the coach, the players, Gen Z, LSU, then used multiple profanities — and finally someone called in. I found it entertaining as it certainly seemed like they were just trying to fill time, then Bobby Hebert just said screw this, no one is listening, and went off a bit.

  62. LakelandSteve Says:

That is the most stubborn I have seen an offensive coordinator maybe ever. I guess Grizzard took the you must run the ball more to heart. By God he was bound and determined to run the ball in on the goal line. Even the second time on the one when the Bucs attempted to pass, they threw two balls to the same spot. No imagination, no trying to dupe the Saints into thinking about the ball going outside, no eye candy with motion. They as much as told the Saints we are going to run up the middle every time and did.

  63. Buddha Says:

6-2 with three top offensive weapons missing 5+ games and right tackle out for 6. Compare Grizz’s record to Coen’s,. We had to win 6 of 7 to get in the playoffs last year. This team has amazing character. Also, stop with conspiracy theories! Baker is playing injured. A lesser player would be sitting out. He was hurt in the game against San Francisco. The bye will help.

  64. Christos Says:

Mayfield is surely banged up, at least more than the team let us know.
In the last 3 games SF, DET, NO he is missing quite a few easy throws.
But today even if there was a few opportunities to run the ball to get a !st down Mayfield didnt even attempt to run it. That says something.
Hopefully with the bye week a couple of players can return. The Offense needs some help.

    Go Bucs

  65. Keydoc Says:

Modified tush push with VEA as the fullback

  66. Oscar Says:

Baker didn’t forget how to play quarterback overnight. It’s plain this offense is not the same as last year’s. Part of it I’m sure has to do with injuries on the line, injuries to Mike and Bucky, no Godwin etc. Baker’s pretty banged up also I’m sure. But if you look at the defenses we have played this year, the majority are top ten especially against the pass. Even the Saints are not bad on defense. No team threw it around the yard against them that well. Things should improve going forward if Goedeke and Bucky can come back healthy and Godwin can at least make some contributions as well. But I think we should be pretty excited about how the defense is coming around. Last year the front seven and the secondary as a whole left a lot to be desired. This year the secondary has really come together. Like they say the real football starts now.

  67. Oscar Says:

Going forward everyone thinks the Patriots are so good. I think they are well coached and Drake Maye is for real but their signature victory was against the Bills who are really struggling. The Bills were dominated by the Falcons. The Patriots have beaten the Dolphins, Panthers, Titans, Saints, Browns and the win against the Bills who. The Rams game is going to be hard on the west coast against that pass rush and Stafford. So 2 out of the next 3 are definitely winnable. That would take us to 8-3 for the stretch run.

  68. Oscar Says:

Great week so far! Vikings, Bears , 49ers and Cowboys all lost to AFC teams and the Packers are losing to the Steelers in the 3rd quarter 16-7. With the Falcons and Panthers also losing to AFC teams it’s been a perfect week for the Bucs going into our bye week!

  69. unbelievable Says:

@Senor Harry in Costa Rica – I wasn’t referring to that specific play, but he’s had others this year where he normally is stronger and fights for the ball. I love Evans, but it has been noticeable this season. And now that I’m seeing it from other WRs, I’m wondering if it’s a team training issue…

  70. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Outrigger – Yep. HORRIBLE. That ball should’ve been thrown low and to the FRONT pile-on. 💯 every. time. Unless, it was Mike Evans he was throwing it to.

  71. Bucamania Says:

Wirfs will be fine. Barton is very concerning. Great to see Winfield look like his old self. Nelly was on fire. Baker must be hurt. He looks rattled and hurried on all his throws. Keeps missing Egbuka. This team needs Bucky and Goedeke back now.

  72. Daryl Green Says:

Wirf was getter his arse whipped against Detroit.
We can’t run because we don’t set new line of scrimmage.

  73. buc4evr Says:

    On offense:
    O line looked bad
Baker is really hurt. Can’t run or throw well with injuries.
Grizz’s play calling was pretty bad, with all the runs. Maybe to help Baker?
Running game struggled 7 times with less than a yard for a TD.
