Morning Cup Of Joe

October 27th, 2025

Welcome to your Morning Cup of Joe, an eye-opener to help Joe’s readers ease into their busy workday with a few football links, wacky news and a pleasant distraction.

Distraction of the Day

Spencer Rattler may be benched for good. [PFT]

The play that killed the Tush Push. [CBS]

Myles Garrett “frustrated” with five sacks. Why? [Yahoo!]

Notable injury news from Week 8. [NFL]

Joe forgot about all of this: If the feds OK the NFL Network sale to BSPN, in which the NFL will also own part of BSPN, doesn’t that make the NFL a part-owner of a sportsbook (BSPN Bet)? And you thought referees were shady now. [TikTok]

Nick Saban whines that coaches getting canned early is because big boosters want a say in the football program. Damn right they should! There are tons of ways big-monied people can donate their cash to significantly more worthy causes than a college football team. God forbid people donating seven-figures (annually?) want accountability for their extreme generosity (or should Joe type, “extreme stupidity?”). And if said fired coaches actually lived up to their (very lofty) seven- or eight-figured salaries, they’d still be employed. These guys are getting paid tens of millions to coach football (and in some cases, not coach football). Cry Joe a friggin’ river! Let’s not beat around the bush here: the guys fired aren’t getting the job done, plain and simple. Want job security? Become a high school teacher. Go be a cop. Apply to be a fireman. The arrogance and gall that Saban has to expect folks to cough up major money and not expect any accountability, or that a football coach should have a job for life. These guys ain’t Supreme Court justices. Joe can guaran-damn-tee you the seven (!) Mercedes dealerships Saban bought (with his Alabama salary — thank you, Alabama boosters) he sure as hell has a say in how they are run. There’s a legal term for folks who run off with mega money from others with zero accountability but Joe won’t use that because Joe doesn’t want to get sued. [Awful Announcing]

LSU fires Brian Kelly. Hey, at least Mike Norvell can beat him. And has. Twice. [On3]

BSPN workers (not high level suits) are fed up with Pat McAfee. Joe has a hunch a year from now McAfee will be back on his own with a YouTube only show. Joe likes McAfee but can see how he may rub conformists the wrong way.  [Front Office Sports]

Something tells Joe your strip clubs ain’t gonna like AI glasses. High end Vegas strip clubs long ago banned smart glasses (so Joe is told). [CNBC]

Second dog is picky as hell. [TikTok]

Thank you for sharing the video with sentiments regarding Doug Martin’s death. I hadn’t seen it. Gerald McCoy’s words hit hard and are all so true. Teared up here. Yes, tell the people in your life how much you love them before you don’t get that chance ever again.

Many notable injuries for sure. We are not the only ones with them. Just like Gerald’s words, never forget football players are human too.

It’s sort of a toss-up for the Saints. Probably allow Rattler the next game and see what happens.

  2. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Well said by #93 in honoring Doug Martin.
Ryan Leaf for a long time has never shown me how he takes personal accountability (either.) I think he’s awful to listen to on Sirius/XM Radio NFL Network. Obviously the family doesn’t blame Dr. Chao so maybe you should just let it go.

    Is it ‘billionaires’?

  4. D-Rome Says:

I was stunned to hear that Nick Mangold passed away.

Alibaba AI glasses? Now the Chinese can easily spy anywhere they want. Hard to believe these are being allowed in the US.

  6. LJ'sDaddy Says:

Gerald looked like he was repping the slimy saints with that get up yesterday.

  7. Josh Says:

As a lifelong loyal fan, this will probably be my last year. Win, lose, or draw, every game I watch seems to have questionable calls that ruin it. It’s not just the Bucs game—every single game has at least one call that makes you think, really? Now the NFL is getting in bed with a sports betting app, and it feels like the beginning of the end.

    Leaf

Not sure what Leafs beef with this dude is all about but Leaf is still making some terrible decisions. Toradol? As a person in recovery Toradol is the only pain killer I can trust. It simply removes the pain for a bit. Never even close to High from it. Leaf should know this. Why doesn’t he? He claims to be in recovery himself. Doubtful.

    Go Bucs!

  9. unbelievable Says:

Unsure about Leaf, but you can look into Dr Chao’s history. Definitely one of tens of thousands of docs who were all to happy to prescribe oxys like they were candy…

Nice words from Gerald. RIP Doug.

  10. David Says:

    ❤️ well said, McCoy

Some of them may be sick of McAfee, but if they’re stupid enough to get rid of him, do not be shocked when they have another round of layoffs next year.
McAfee on Saturday mornings is the only thing watchable on that channel anymore
