Injury Concern For Baker Mayfield
October 21st, 2025
Yes, Teddy Bridgewater made his first regular season appearance in a Buccaneers uniform last night.
If you are like Joe, you missed it. That’s because it came on the game’s final play, a kneel-down with Bucs trailing 24-9 to the Lions.
Head coach Todd Bowles today was asked about Baker Mayfield potentially being injured.
“I saw him limping at the end in the last series,” Bowles said, adding it’s unclear “what exactly is wrong with him.”
Mayfield absorbed 8 hits last night, one less than Lions QB Jared Goff.
Joe has no clue what may or not be wrong with Mayfield, but Joe did find it curious during the game that Mayfield did not have one rushing attempt — on a night he was, as Ira Kaufman likes to say, “under siege.”

He did run that first or second series Joe only to be tripped by the carpet. A couple times he tried and had guys just too close get away from
October 21st, 2025 at 1:14 pm
thats what i was saying he looked injured it seemed pretty obvious
October 21st, 2025 at 1:15 pm
If he was injured we wouldn’t know it. If he’s not injured it is a miracle after what this season has been like.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:16 pm
This team needs a bye week.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:16 pm
Unless he just can’t play the only who is ever going to get a full report on what ails Baker is Emily.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:22 pm
If Baker goes down, then Teddy gets injured, we’re screwed. Thats why Im thinking we hit the 3rd this draft for a solid bu QB that can learn 2 or 3 years behind Baker. Ive been watching Sawyer Robertson and he may go in the 3rd or 4th. We have to use our higher picks on LB and DT or O line…maybe even WR again if Evans retires.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:28 pm
the DLmen kicked him in the damn shin!!!!
refs were a joke!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
October 21st, 2025 at 1:39 pm
There is a reason Teddy was out of football….
NO Baker, this team is DONE!
October 21st, 2025 at 1:41 pm
He’s got to be injured. What else would explain not one rushing attempt from him. He also missed several passes.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:46 pm
Hairlip Hussey and his officiating henchmen more than made up for last week’s Chief’s/Lions sketchiness. Amongst the many late flags, no calls ( including the raping of Evans on the play that likely ended his season ) and illegal reviewing a play AFTER the ball had been snapped…it was absolute open season on Baker. Hit in the head, belly flopping on top after plays were over and the most egregious leg whip/trip that basically ending any hope of a comeback.
The Bucs aren’t exactly an NFL favorite…and with all the hype surrounding them and Baker “the league”made sure that a message was sent.
I can’t wait for Dan Campbell to outthink himself in the playoffs and botch another opportunity against an underdog. Those Lions are an unlikeable bunch…much like the other 3 teams in the NFC South.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:47 pm
Almost seems like they’re setting up the excuse if they end up losing to the Saints.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:47 pm
@MadMax Robertson is a BEAST, but you’re talking about finding a 3rd string QB, why? At that point obviously it’s nice but Baker has consistently been on the field, but your scenario has 2 hypothetical injuries at the same time, and we haven’t even seen one of those yet.
What’s with the massive overreaction. Watching that game, it should’ve been WAY WORSE than 24-9. Defense was stellar, offense lacked, it happens, I don’t see Baker having another poor performance like that again.
We’re also down 2 starting OL (I was excited to have our PRACTICE SQUAD RG back in the lineup), 3 of the top 4 receivers didn’t play, and we’re without our 1a running back.
Relax everyone, we’re 5-2. Bowles doesn’t need to be fired, Baker is still playing at an elite level. The Bucs are exactly where optimistic fans said we’d be, if not better.
We just lost by a manageable margin to the best team in football (I think) while missing some of our most key players and leaders, can we just relax.
October 21st, 2025 at 1:49 pm
And he missed some throws. Concerning.
October 21st, 2025 at 2:00 pm
What possible reason for setting up an excuse miller5262. Did they set up an excuse for any other game? If he’s hurt it has to be talked about. What a ja!
October 21st, 2025 at 2:01 pm
AMI_Chris..very concerning.
This team goes as far as Baker takes them.
He had a bad night and there you have it 9 points.
October 21st, 2025 at 2:02 pm
People like to point out how poorly Mayfield played while in Carolina…..but failing to mention that he played half of the games he was in with a high ankle sprain before sitting out a few games due to the injury.
Characteristic of his play during those games:
Lack of mobility/reluctance to run
Passes sailing or falling short
Sound familiar?
October 21st, 2025 at 2:09 pm
The Lions did a great job staying in their rush lanes and didn’t give Bake much room to run.
October 21st, 2025 at 2:10 pm
I think artificial turf kills all of the running.
October 21st, 2025 at 2:13 pm
yeah weird
chalk it up to Baker having a bad game he missed so many opps
detroits defensive coaches challenged the back ups and they came out and did an amazing job, good ol fashioned a** kicking, fortunately baker did not get killed… baker couldn’t run they had a spy on him and any back or te coming out, really impressive detroit they looked like a super bowl contender but they always choke in the playoffs
really worried about mike evans i hope he’s ok for his wife and kids, that was brutal, praying for him
October 21st, 2025 at 2:48 pm
shiiii………maybe even just rest baker vs the saints…
and let teddy sling it for a week
October 21st, 2025 at 3:03 pm
Something was obviously going on with him. Other than all the overthrows, I can’t recall him even trying to get a first down with his legs, not once.
October 21st, 2025 at 3:11 pm
OK, here we go, the excuse the Baker Boi(s) can now repeated endlessly to claim that Baker has never thrown a bad pass.*
*when healthy, and also note that all his fellow players are jealous of his fame and fortune and will cut off routes and drop balls to make him look bad, because no one has ever been as great as Baker who can do no wrong.
October 21st, 2025 at 3:32 pm
Baker got leg whipped by left defensive end on the last play of the final drive. That’s why he was jawing at the official. I don’t think anybody pointed that out yet. If so, my apologies.
October 21st, 2025 at 3:36 pm
Cold plunge, massage therapy, stretch, get through the saints… take a week off. He will be fine.
The question is: Do Bucky and Godwin come back after the Bye?
October 21st, 2025 at 3:36 pm
Listen up. Nothing went right, via Detroit. Baker dusts it off, kills slimy saints, then, bye. worst case, we are 14-3, most likely, 15-2. no 1 predict that. relax, re watch Gus swayze. Baker, will get us to nfc championship, if healthy(team), sb.
October 21st, 2025 at 3:40 pm
So I don’t believe he was inhibited from running to that point. Like it’s been pointed out, that defense had everyone boxed in. Nothing worked. Even when someone was open , Baker couldn’t get a clean throw off or made bad throws.
October 21st, 2025 at 3:47 pm
The NFL is delivering a poor product when they use video review overturn a critical first down without presenting the fans with clear evidence and then fail to use review to penalize a dangerous personal foul.
October 21st, 2025 at 4:05 pm
Call it whatever you want. It was an atrocity of epic proportions. Again. On MNF. Again. The pattern is identified and irrefutable.
It’s what happens when you have three coordinators, one a rookie, one drives a short bus, and the other is a mastermind of defense on paper, who is never ready for the start of a football game and who doesn’t bother to get involved with the offense during the game. Neither he nor his team. Yes he’s supposed to be the head coach.
No, he is not a head coach.
October 21st, 2025 at 7:02 pm
I used to think that the Bucs never get calls to go their way in prime time was because Bowles always finds a way to lose and losers never get the calls or the refs dislike Bowles.. I am beginning to think that many calls go against the Bucs because for a short window with TB12, the Bucs had every call go their way and now the refs are still making up for it. A friend of mine who is a Pat fan says the refs have been doing that to the Pats since the Goat left Foxboro as well. I mean it seems like the refs turn into Angel Hernandez everytime the Bucs play who was incompetent or on the take as an mlb ump.
October 21st, 2025 at 7:03 pm
Some DCs know how to slow down a QB who’s been running for big plays lately. Simple really, put a spy on him. They took Baker’s runs away. He had no where to run.
October 21st, 2025 at 9:32 pm
It is nothing, other than it hurts, for a quarterback/team to have a night like last night. Josh Allen had 3 last year when he was the MVP and Lamar had 2 like it in 2023 when he was the MVP. As long as we pick up where we left off we are good.
October 21st, 2025 at 9:36 pm
Munch,
Knew we would hear your nonsense. Even you know that Baker wasn’t protected well last night and second string recievers were blanketed when they weren’t running into each other. Even you know that Baker through a dime to ME last night that was dropped because of a non call against ME13. That “fake insight” that you pitch is just your usual brand of pretend analysis. You have been waiting for a chance to pounce. You care little about Bucs. They are just a platform for your mega ego blather. Bucs got beat every way you can get beat up in a game. That happens when 50% of your starting offense is injured.
October 21st, 2025 at 9:40 pm
Look the Bucs did not get robbed or cheated. They got beat by a very tough defense! Especially Detroit defensive backs. They man handled the Bucks receivers the majority of the game. That’s a bad ass group . They cover well and blasted the Bucs receivers with hard hits all game. They play like bad ass gangsters but rarely get called for illegal hits. It was hard to watch our offense get beat down. The Bucs defense played dam good considering and kept us in the game. No shame for the Bucs defense! The offense had some good plays but way too few of them. I strongly dislike Detroit but they were clearly the better team. The Bucs offense played poorly most of the time but it was the Detroit defense that dominated the game. The Bucs are more of finesse team on offense and the Detroit backfired dominated them.

The Bucs lost a game to a franchise that has been around since the wake of the flood. Detroit is one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. They have NEVER been in a Super Bowl! H3ll, when was the last time they were in a NFL Championship? They are as hungry as it gets to win. They may finally pull it off this season. I sure am not throwing my hands up in defeat. There are 10 games left. That’s a LOT of football. We are 5-2, people. You sound like we ought to be 0-7. I call BS on that one.
October 21st, 2025 at 10:44 pm
Man Baker Mayfield had a bad game he missed a lot of open receivers in the first half and part of the second half. He played bad every quarterback that played the game at a high level had bad games . Brady threw 5 picks against Buffalo with Fitzpatrick at quarterback for the Bills it’s not the end of the world. So you don’t have to make excuses for Baker Mayfield bad play on the field and you don’t killed Baker Mayfield for one bad game in 7 games of the season. And it’s probably not his last bad game this year it’s ok . I don’t expect for any player regardless of position to play great every game of the season. So everyone just relax I hope y’all didn’t believe we was going 16-1 or 17-0 ? And it’s not going to be the last game we lose all we have to do is win 5 more games and we in the playoffs.
October 22nd, 2025 at 12:11 am
We were out coached in every way. It effected every aspect of the game. We got our butts handed to us because we weren’t ready to play or the game plan was a bad one. Not sure which it was but that is what happened. We’ll bounce back because we won’t be playing against a team coached by Dan Campbell.
October 22nd, 2025 at 6:48 am
he had a bad game bc detroit was pressuring him every time he dropped back and his receivers were mostly covered then when they were open he couldn’t connect
watched the saints vs bears …wow the saints are bad and spencer threw three ints, jamel dean only plays for money lol should have another pick. we better kill these guys but the way things go it will probably be close
October 22nd, 2025 at 8:26 am
He was tripped illegally with no call. Two injuries including the one with Evans and no flags. The NFL officiating is in the dumps!
October 22nd, 2025 at 8:28 am
@daveyboy we were missing big pieces from our offense where the Lions had a very healthy offense. Evans was rusty, Egbuka was used sparingly….on one leg. The issue is health. Next man up is coach speak, need talent on the field to win in this league.
October 22nd, 2025 at 10:12 am
the NFL paid officials referees have been against the bucs all season its like the WWE NFL well paid stunt men RIP Doug Martin and Baker and Mike should be pissed they ended Mikes career
October 22nd, 2025 at 11:06 am
Mayfield whole demeanor was different at the start of the game and thats concerning no fire in him and it showed in his play. we all should be concerned we cant drop a game to the saints before the bye
October 22nd, 2025 at 11:31 am
Rod Munch you and your Baker Mayfield Derangement Syndrome are such a bore. If you can’t understand why Baker made some bad throws, then why are you commenting on a football comment forum? No one player makes or breaks a team. Every time you ignore Baker’s greatness but sound off on his mistakes, it shows how small you are.
October 22nd, 2025 at 12:22 pm
Becky truth is Baker was not up to par the whole game. And a really tough Detroit defense pretty much throttled the Bucs offense. The Bucs defense played well enough to keep the Bucs in the game but Detroit was dominate on defense. It’s as simple as that. I hate Detroit, but truth is the Detroit defense snuffed the Bucs offense.
October 22nd, 2025 at 12:44 pm
The Detroit defense had 3rd and 4th string DBs playing the whole game. Guess what? Dan Campbell ran man coverage the whole game. It’s the simplest scheme because you can’t have a bust, it’s Mano-et-Mano. Either you get beat or you don’t.
His Geniusness would have played that soft shell turtle zone and let Baker have all the wide open short and intermediate passes he wanted. If Todd were coaching the Lions, Bucs win that game 34-24. Todd plays scared at his best.
But Dan Campbell is a real head coach who plays to win. He believed in his guys and they delivered. We don’t have that on the Bucs.
October 22nd, 2025 at 12:51 pm
They crushed an offense that is depleted with injuries. We stayed in it until late in the game despite how badly our offense played. Baker was pressured the entire game. That effects timing and I’m an sure it affected his passing game. We sacked Goff more than Baker was sacked. I am not complaining. I am actually encouraged. In my opinion the lions are the best coached team in the league, and the best team in the league. So for all our injuries, and Baker having an off game, officials making some seriously questionable calls, and penalties at the worst possible times, all is not lost. I believe we are going to be fine. I am just tired of Munch and his Baker Derangement Syndrome. I don’t care if he wants to criticize, but he shows how immature he is when he can’t also give praise when it is warranted. I hate the Cowboys but I am adult enough to admit Dak is playing well. Why is that so hard for Rod when it comes to Baker?
October 22nd, 2025 at 4:27 pm
@aqualung. The Lions were mixing it up with man to man and zone coverage all night. There were multiple times that Aikman and Buck even talked about it and showed the different defenses. To say that it was 100% man to man all night means you didn’t watch the game.
