Drew Brees Comes Around To The Bucs

So renowned retired slimy Saints quarterback Drew Brees was disparaging the Bucs this summer for no good reason.
Brees publicly said he was unimpressed by any of the NFC South teams and, he said, he saw no reason why the Saints couldn’t compete for a division crown.
Enter reality.
Brees should understand quarterbacks define a team and Baker Mayfield is a damn good one and was last year. Compared to Mayfield, the quarterbacks in the NFC South this year are not special.
It almost reminds Joe of the 2014 Bucs, the team that tried to sell Josh McCown as its starting QB against the likes of Brees, Cam Newton and Matt Ryan in the division. McCown was way out of his league. (Joe still says Team Glazer should do the honorable thing and refund 2014 season ticket holders after going 0-8 at home that year and intentionally losing the season finale at the stadium formerly known as the Den of Depression.)
Now Brees has changed his tune. He’s been doing analyst work for BSPN TV and completed an about face on Bucs this morning.
Brees says Tampa Bay is the best team in football.
“They’ve earned it,” Brees said of the Bucs being the top club in the NFL. “They find ways to win. Baker Mayfield’s playing oustanding. I love watching that defense, aggressive. They’re going to light you up; they don’t care because they know they got one of the best QBs in the league right now.”
Nice of Brees to open his eyes. Bravo.
Joe was intrigued by Brees’ take on the Bucs defense. Perhaps Todd Bowles is a bit more willing to experiment on defense because he knows he can rely on the offense to clean up messes.

even tho we’re 5-1, leading the division and conference i dont see how we make the playoffs…
i mean only team that have a top 5 defense make the playoffs…. and only teams with the #1 ranked defense in every category win SUPER BOWLS…
when the bucs beat KC in the SB, BUCS had the #1 ranked defense!!!!!…we lead the league in sacks, INTs and scoring defense….we had 15 shutouts and only gave up 3TDs the entire year!!!!…
other teams and coaches dont get paid or study film so bowles and his defense should never give up any points or yards!!!!!!

For OGs like me who have experienced the 1979 Defense, along with the 1997-2004 Defenses, is hard to say this defense is one of the best in the NFL.
Granted the game has changed now, it’s more of a fantasy football points, scoring machine now but still.

I don’t think any team is playing well enough consistently to claim being the best right now. We have the best record right now. If you factor in the injuries and the prospect of getting all or most of them back then yes we may very well be the best. But until we get them back we are vulnerable.

Fellas, the Bucs are 5-1. They control their destiny and with any luck, are a much healthier team after the bye.
There isn’t one team in the league right now without holes and doubts and question marks. Not one “contending” team right now has a content, resting easy fanbase. Most division leaders are in a dogfight with at least 1 other team. Tomlin and the Steelers have a comfy edge and he is in the media lamenting in division trades cause he knows there is a lot of ball left.
We are much more comfortable being the under dog and under the radar, I can feel that myself but here we are. Bucs on top, where most of us thought they should be. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Try to enjoy it and remember we are in as good of a position as any other team in the NFL. Trust the Bucs!

All that hype is why Licht kept Bowles. Bowles wont let this team belive in the media’s hype. Bowles is a very very experienced D coordinating head coach. He knows the league will humble you fast.

Not a Drew Brees fan. He really had our number back in the day. Won 7 division titles and a Super Bowl. Actually, he is the closest comparable QB to Baker Mayfield that I can think of. Both scrappy dudes that played with a chip on their shoulder. Hopefully, Mayfield can bring us a trophy of our own.

We are not half way through the season. No team has emerged as a juggernaut. Drew Brees was the only reason why I could half way stand Sean Cheating Payton. Drew had class. Who knows what goes through his retired HOF mind now? And honestly, who cares? I am crossing fingers that somehow, this wounded Bucs TEAM can sneak into Ford Field (or whatever it’s called now) and grab a win. That’s what we fans including Joes should be focused on. Go Bucs!! Defang the Lions!!

I want Brees saying the Bucs suck and all they’ve done is got lucky, and beat a 49ers team only after they lost their best player – that’s what I want to hear, not some backslapping nonsense he doesn’t believe. Why you, as a Bucs fan, would want a leading foe to pretend to be nice is beyond me.
For example, when the lowlife POS Eagles won the SB, what did I do? I pointed out the Bucs beat KC by a bigger margin – thus their SB win wasn’t as impressive as ours. I undercut them. That’s what you do. Why in the world would any Eagles fan expect, or want me to act differently? Some people are so pitiful with their neediness.

I respect Drew Brees. He’s on of the best to ever play.
And he’s allowed to be a fanboy of the team he played on. Get real people. Like any of you would do differently.
The Bucs have earned his respect. They’re doing that with a lot of doubters. If anything, I’m proud of our boys for turning heads. Focus on the good!

Are the Bucs the best team in the NFC? Are the Colts the best in the AFC? Both teams are currently 5 and 1. I would say yes to both questions.
I respect Drew Brees. He was an excellent QB in the NFL after all. Yes, he played for the Slimy Saints.
Will the Bucs beat the Lions next Monday evening? I don’t see why not.

I like the Bucs better when they are playing with a edge and not reading their press clippings. I am hoping they don’t lose that edge from all the praise they are getting. I know Baker won’t lose his edge just hope team follows him.
