More Praise For Emeka Egbuka From An Ex-NFL Player

October 11th, 2025

More props for Bucs’ star rookie.

Turn on various hollering shows on BSPN and FS1 this past week and a big subject is Baker Mayfield and his quest for the NFL MVP honor.

But he wasn’t the only Bucs player getting props on these same shows. Rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka was getting tons of run. Not only is Egbuka living up to the hype, but ex-NFL players are absolutely raving about him.

Former Bucs backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky suggested Egbuka is his No. 5 player to win MVP. Former Bucs corner Aqib Talib said Egbuka is the next Ja’Marr Chase.

Over at CBS, former Belicheats running back Damien Harris thinks Egbuka might be another Justin Jefferson with his production and his physical skills combined with intelligence.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are watching a [rookie] turn into a superstar right in front of our eyes, and he’s only five weeks into the season,” Harris began. “I mean, you want to talk about giving Baker Mayfield a weapon when he already has weapons.

“They’re not all healthy right now, but you got a guy that’s a rookie, and in Week 5, is one of the best receivers in the National Football League, and is putting the entire league on notice.”

Harris then noted Ebuka’s stats put him in elite company among NFL receivers.

“Now, that is not the most [yards] since Week 2, but the only guys in that same conversation are Puka Nacua, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Justin Jefferson,” Harris said. “So you mean to tell me that a rookie in Week 5 of his first NFL season is in that type of company?”

Harris added there is nothing about Egbuka that suggests he’s a rookie — the way he plays, the way he runs routes, the way he uses his head and how strong his hands are.

Egbuka has saved the Bucs. Where would the Bucs be now if they didn’t have him with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan on the shelf? The Bucs would likely be 0-5, that’s where. And Joe would be talking about drafting Egbuka’s former Ohio State teammate, receiver Jeremiah Smith.

To think a guy who considers himself an NFL insider called out Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht as “Millen” for drafting Egbuka.

Licht and his staff ought to get a friggin’ raise for being so ahead of the curve on Egbuka.

May end up being Licht’s best draft pick. Kid is playing on a level that we expect from established number one veteran receivers around the league.
If he manages to stay healthy he will easily get ROTY and be in competition with his QB for MVP

  2. Steven007 Says:

Joe, if you’re reading this, he had 163 in the last game, not the last three games.

Jeremiah Smith is only a true SOPH. He will be at the very top of that LOADED 2027 WR-Class. There will prob be at least 6 of them drafted in the 1st-Round… Maybe, even more. We’ve GOT TO get one of them. I would prob offer our late ā€˜27 and ā€˜28 1st’s, plus our late ā€˜27 2nd, and our late ā€˜28 3rd for JSmith. In a heartbeat. It still probably wouldn’t be enough though, cause WHO wouldn’t. Having HIM and his ex-teammate EE back together again, would be unbelievable. UNSTOPPABLE, alongside of JMac & Co. It’d be SO INSANE. Think Ole Bake might like that!? LoL. Regardless, we gotta get one of them… Coleman, Wingo, Hollywood Williams, Tyson!? There are probably another 10 or 12 or so, that will all go in rounds 2 thru 3. I want one of those Top 5 tho!!!! Whoever it is I want to see the FO be VERY aggressive and get ā€˜the one’ they want. Don’t wait around and hope to get lucky again, like they did with EE. They could’ve easily ā€˜missed-out on’ him. THEN, where’d we be right now!? I’ve been waiting for THIS Class, since last season. It’s going to be special. High potential of being better and deeper even, than the 2024 class. We need to hold onto and acquire as many 2027 picks we can get our hands on. I WANT ONE, if ya can’t tell already! Hahah

  4. Aqualung Says:

We would surely be 0-5. We’re a couple missed FGs and a couple miracle plays from being 0-5 even with EE, thanks to His Geniusness.

I love giving up 500 yards to scrub QBs! YAY!!!

It’s a winning formula! Bucs are 4-1! YAY!

When was the last time anyone saw 60 consecutive minutes, in the same game, of solid football from His Geniusness?

And the games where he had a real head coach he reported to don’t count.

  5. Go Bucs! Says:

He’s our number one even with Mike comes back and I love Mike. He’s that good, but at this point in his career…

  6. Bucccnasty Says:

Jerimiah Smith is not able to come out next year, class of 2027 at the earliest. But I agree I am happy we are not talking about him as a potential draft pick lol

  7. Hodad Says:

    He’s been fantasy gold.

  8. mg Says:

Most exciting player in the NFL.

  9. Tackleblockwin Says:

Just imagine if our offense had an elite TE. I like Otton, but he is lacking the speed we need. Maybe we can find a gem late in next years draft. We are spoiled with riches in offense. Hope I don’t sound spoiled lol.

Hey Mike, Chris – a little help here? That would be nice. I know one thing, if Egbuka pops off for another 140 and a TD Sunday he dang sure ain’t gnna be relegated to number 3 if/when all 3 are actually on the field at the same time, and I’m not even sure if he should stop being Bakers first read moving forward. I hope Tez and Egbuka crush against Detroit and San Fran. The entire linebacker room will be different next yr, middle linebackers to edge, and that’s where the money needs to go. All of it. If we somehow land a Maxx Crosby (we won’t) then it might be a good idea to not have him drop back in to coverage, I dunno maybe that’s just me…

  11. Beeej Says:

After LAST week, and w no Godwin THIS week, kid is gonna be doubled up hard

  12. Beeej Says:

TOTally forgot–he did that last week with his momma and all his people in the stands, wish there was some video of that

  13. St.Pete Salty Buc Says:

Tampa Bays #1 receiving option moving forward, even when Evans and Godwin return. Evans= Red Zone hero and Godwin the slot machine once healthy. EE2 is that good. McMillan will be the icing on Mayfields cake. GO BUCS!!

  14. orlbucfan Says:

General Bake has a lot of talented guys to throw balls to. Now the OLine will stabilize now that All-World TW is back. Plus, Grizz is starting to open the playbook. Hope my guy Izien plays. He’s a headhunter. Focused on this dame. 5-1, Bucs!!

  15. Stpetematt Says:

If they double Ebuka both Tez and Shepard have big games this week too.

  16. LawrenceDawsey Says:

Even if they double Mek Sunday, he’s still getting 80. He’s that good.
