Dan Orlovsky Very Impressed With Baker Mayfield, Emeka Egbuka

October 10th, 2025

Ex-Bucs QB big on Bucs.

If former Bucs backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky was voting for the 2025 Most Valuable Player today, he’d have two Bucs in his top five.

Joe must be living in aTwilight Zone episode. A BSPN employee thinks the Bucs have two of the very best players in the league? Will Orlovsky get suspended for such talk?

But that’s the dream season the Bucs are living in through the first five games. Orlovsky did a piece that was not aired on “Last Take” in which he broke down his five candidates to win NFL MVP. He listed Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka and Baker Mayfield. And no, Orlovsky said, it’s not too early to talk MVP.

At No. 5, Orlovsky listed Egbuka.

“For like two weeks, it was like, this guy is going to win Offensive Rookie of the Year,” Orlovsky began. “[But as an MVP candidate] he has been that impactful for his team.”

Then, Orlovsky unveiled his top pick to win MVP. That would be Mayfield.

“No. 1, Baker Mayfield, this is the easiest decision so far this season,” Orlovsky said. “[The Bucs are] 4-1. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin haven’t played one snap together this year.

“They’ve had four different offensive lines, and they have been trailing in the final minute of the fourth quarter in every game, and yet they have still won four.

“When it comes to value. Baker Mayfield, number one in the NFL so far.”

It’s hard to argue against Mayfield now. But Egbuka, a rookie wide receiver? A wide receiver has never been voted MVP. Not even the great Jerry Rice.

And for a rookie to actually be talked about with a sober mind as league MVP? That shows you how well Egbuka is balling.

The only WR with a chance is Nacua. If he somehow kept up his pace he would win everything. 175 receptions, 105 for 1st downs and over 2000 yards. I think Orlovsky cites that in the video or a different one I saw.

  2. MelvinJunior Says:

I saw this. I always DVR the show and watch everyday!

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

And to think, our edge rush obsessed Joe, in a historically clairvoyant moment months before the draft, willed this receiver into town! Dangest thing I ever saw!

  4. Aqualung Says:

Dream season. Like one of those dreams where the elevator cable snaps, and you’re plummeting 100 floors at terminal velocity, and wake up just before impact?

4-1 is a huge mirage for how the team has been playing. 0-5 is just as probable. Darnold totally abused Todd, the latest QB to look like a first ballot HOFer against His Geniusness . And, Todd can’t stop the run anymore. But at least he hasn’t corrected Magoo’s special bus, so he has to spend more time with that and just gives everyone the day off.

  5. MelvinJunior Says:

Phil Simms was also, spreading around the “Bake-Love” on Cowherd today! It was pretty good. I wonder if Colin got Simms to fill the Sanchez spot!?

  6. Aqualung Says:

With no defense capable of keeping a wheelchair QB from throwing for 400 yards and 5 TDs, It’s only a matter of time before Baker yields to the pressure and only averages 23 ppg for a few games with a few picks. Those are guaranteed losses.

    Baker 40 Burger or Bust

Glad His Geniusness continues to Lovie Smith the defense into oblivion, wasting talent at every position.

    Sham.

  7. Steven007 Says:

Aqualung, you’re simply a OneNote troll. My God man, are you that simple? Are you that boring? If you’re a fan of the team, be happy. We are four and n one. Even if you believe it to be smoke and mirrors. You sound like some of the fans on Philly’s radio right now. After the super bowl, winners got lambasted by the seller dweller Giants. But no, instead you’re talking about a team that is leading its division by more than one game. Who da thunk it.

  8. Davyboy Says:

Hilarious, easiest decision all year he said. Baker is 3rd in total air yards-762, so maybe he can throw the long ball, maybe…

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Seeing Dan Orlovsky’s name, reminded me going to the 2011 MNF game where the Bucs beat the Colts — I had remembered it as Dan was the QB there, but no, it’s some jobber named Painter.

Anywho, I pull up the game on YouTube… and first off, that is the proper Bucs pewter uniform, the proper shade of pewter instead of the stupid silver they use now. Also the helmet looks right as well, before Nike screwed that up too.

Next up, I see cheerleaders, and they’re actual women, not some guy in tights prancing around – amazing stuff!

  10. MadMax Says:

We have the MVP AND Rookie of the year coming along nicely….Im just sitting back here smiling. Yeah we better get that D going…get busy on a trade Jason for another CB, pronto!

  11. MadMax Says:

Edge rush too if funds allow.

  12. Davyboy Says:

Did anyone see who is in the #1 spot of Tier I of the NFL QB rankings week 6?? Some how they made a mistake and put Baker Mayfield at the number 1 spot ahead of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. How could this happen Rod?? Does this mean Baker is still a middling quarterback or does this put him in the elite category??
In in the article they say Mayfield is a cold-blooded destroyer of Dreams who has proven no challenge is too great for him to overcome. It continues, the Buccaneers are the NFL’s most exciting team because of Mayfield, the V12 engine powering them to a 4-1 start. He’ll talk trash to your fans in the tunnel before the game, rip their hearts out on the field and let you hear about it on his way out.
We are in for the ride of our lives this season!! 🏴‍☠️

  13. MadMax Says:

I just looked. I guess Hendrickson is the only viable option out there thats really worth it. And yeah, thats gonna cost. But we’re in a year to win it all. I say go for it Jason. We’ll be picking late, give em a first and 2nd….and maybe a player.

Thank you for sharing the video! Impressed by Dan’s choices of Baker and Buka.

  15. Hammerhead Says:

That Bama LB seems to be playing well.
    What’s his name?

  16. Beeej Says:

Mike isn’t gonna be double covered anymore when he comes back

  17. Hammerhead Says:

Beeej knows absolutely nothing as I do.

  18. Kenton Smith Says:

Hammerhead. His name is Justin Jefferson. Problem there is we’d have to trade up in the draft to get him. But yes, we could sure use him. I’m ready to see some Bullock, I think he’s a player.

EE is a/the top receiver in the league, they can’t afford to have the safety cheat toward Mike every time

  20. KABucs Says:

And of course Stephen A, a Cowboy hater, has to stir the pot, brings up Dak Prescott not being in Dan’s top five. We all know Dak Prescott is going to get hurt in the next 2 or 3 games like usual so any solid play from him is a mirage. He’s given us many seasons to see the pattern.

  21. PSL Bob Says:

Pump the brakes folks! Egbuka has been great, but we’re only 5 games into the season. When we get to Week 15 or so, then let’s talk about MVP. If Baker continues to stack up wins, he’ll definitely be at the top of most lists. But we’re only 30% through a very long season. I will admit though, it’s fun to have everyone talking about the Bucs!

  22. Hammerhead Says:

Jihaad Campbell dudes. He’s playing lights out. He intercepted Mayfield.
Hoping he doesn’t come back to haunt us.

  23. Apathtc Says:

No one is impressed with anything about orlovsky

  24. Oscar Says:

Baker also sits at the top of Nick Wright”s “Mahomes Mountain “! All the adulation is great and very satisfying I’m sure for Baker but I hope he never forgets that a lot of this praise comes from people that piled on along with all those that did their best to bury him. Let’s keep the focus on winning!

  25. StickinUp4Centers Says:

“Jihaad Campbell dudes. He’s playing lights out. He intercepted Mayfield.

Bucky turned the lights out on him when he burned him for that long TD. The INT was tipped. If the other Eagles player doesn’t get the finger on it, were talking about Jihaad giving up 2TDs in coverage as Godwin had him beat.

  26. 813BUCBOI Says:

todd is currently seasoning crow for the president of his non so fan club!!!!

this weeks crow will be baked and lightly feathered!!!!

    4-1!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Capt.Tim Says:

He’s right. Mayfield is the easy choice for MVP. You’d have to be clueless about the game not to see it.

  28. Aqualung Says:

LOL now there’s a poster who thinks he’s James Bond who believes in not facing the reality of what happens on the field . We should just to eat the turd sandwich and like it.

Championships are proven to correlate more strongly to great defense than great offense. Todd is supposed to be a Defensive Genius. Hahaha.

His defense, when he’s also being Head Coach, Special Teams coach, and Director of Players Feelings, sucks. Sucked before. Will suck. It’s only when he had a real head coach he reported to, and actually received quality feedback for his performance, that he was ok. Now cue the frillies who will say “Chiefs in the Super Bowl!” The Chiefs had two paraplegics playing offensive tackle, and still if Mahomes receivers caught the balls that hit their facemasks, that game could easily have been a different story. And BA had the team at the time.

Now if you like watching teams have their way with the Bucs defense like they were the 1981 Baltimore Colts, then Todd Bowels is the perfect multi-hatted hybrid for you.

Oh, and Yay!!! Area Code Girl loves exclamation marks. Maybe she and James Bond can hook up.
