Don’t blame Baker — this is on the Bucs’ defense.
They’re facing a top-5 team with a top-10 offense in the Eagles, not one of the league’s worst offenses that still managed to look good against the Bucs. For context, Penix has thrown just one touchdown pass this year it was against us, and yet the Falcons got owned by the Panthers talking benched Penix bad. That says a lot.
This defense has been, and continues to be, the weak point. Baker basically needs to score on every possession just to keep the game competitive.

Once again, Baker Mayfield and the offense are forced to bail out what has become a bottom-tier, Toilet Bowl-caliber defense. We have won *in spite of* this dismal defensive performance, and the cracks are becoming harder to ignore. If Todd Bowles doesn’t present a legitimate plan soon, this season may already be a lost cause.
Winning the NFC South means little if you’re just going to be a one-and-done in the playoffs again. At this point, it’s fair to question whether Bowles is still a viable defensive-minded head coach. You can blame the players all you want, but accountability starts at the top. SVD was his personal project, as was the decision to stick with K.J. Britt last season. These “projects” rarely seem to deliver results.
To those still defending Bowles—if your hesitation to critique him stems from fear of being labeled racist, that’s a problem in itself. This has nothing to do with race. It’s about performance, and the results just aren’t there. The defense continues to underperform and is repeatedly rescued by Baker’s heroics.
Speaking of performance and calling it like I see it. Unfortunately, Grizzard hasn’t shown the same creativity or effectiveness as Liam Coen so far. At this point, it’s hard not to feel like the offensive play-calling took a steep step backward.

Nobody states the obvious. During the Bowles era, the story is always the same – as soon as they run into a good football team they lose badly.
But they love Todd Bowles Defense and they love Baker – just good enough to win 9-10 games against struggling teams and then get blown out in the first round of the playoffs.

Every year we do the same things: you win against the smaller teams, you don’t even exist against the bigger teams. You battle injuries, defensive lapses, and your HC, which shows every time how bad it is. And like every year, we’ll definitely be first in the group, which will be the worst, and get crushed in our home playoff match. Before, I wasn’t very happy when I was invited on Sunday nights when there were big games, because of the time difference. Now, no problem because I already know the outcome: See you at our next game. That doesn’t take away from the fact that I love my Bucs.

Yeah, I was one saying to be positive, but sheesh. We do not look like an elite team. The defense stinks, getting dinked and dunked on. The o-line is atrocious, and our receivers are dropping passes that are right in the bread basket. Also, Riley Dixon’s setup is slow as molasses. But we will see what happens in the second half. Mike Evans being hurt, as it turns out, is a bigger factor than I thought. Baker can’t do it all every week. The Eagles seem to get away with penalties on nearly every play. It reminds me of the Seahawks back when they were dominant with Richard Sherman—if you commit a penalty on every snap, the referees simply can’t call all of them without disrupting the flow of the game. As a result, the Eagles appear to false start or hold on nearly every play, but because it happens so frequently, each infraction blends in, and the refs hesitate to throw a flag. They’re left asking themselves, *”Is this one really worse than the ones I let slide earlier?”*
If or when the NFL starts officiating games more consistently and fairly, I think the Eagles’ advantage will disappear. Right now, it’s reminiscent of when the officials seemed to favor the Chiefs or the Rams during their Super Bowl runs—or, as much as I hate to admit it, the year Brady and the Bucs got every call their way (I say this with a bit of humor—because we definitely benefitted that year!).

This was Baker’s worst game in a long time — he looked horrible in the first half, throwing dead ducks that gave the opponent’s offense the fuel to jump out early.

And the refs? They let more pass interference slide today than I’ve ever seen — at least three missed calls on Godwin alone.
