Emeka Egbuka Said He Won’t Disrespect Baker Mayfield Passes If He Throws More Accurately

September 26th, 2025

Responds to Baker Mayfield.

Joe guesses you have seen video of Baker Mayfield mic’d up when Mayfield is mocking receiver Emeka Egbuka last Sunday for his one-handed catch against the Jets.

Mayfield told Egbuka catching his passes one-handed is an act of disrespect and that he needs to catch the ball with two hands.

Egbuka had an interesting response yesterday morning. Appearing on “Up and Adams” hosted by Kay Adams, seen on FanDuel TV, Egbuka said Mayfield can solve the disrespect issue by himself.

“You’ve got to put it in a better spot,” Egbuka said with a smile. “Put it where I can use two hands.”

Ha, simple enough.

But really, Egbuka raved about Mayfield putting the ball where Egbuka had a chance to catch it — and he did. Egbuka said he and Mayfield and other Bucs receivers work on that all the time and Mayfield tells the receivers he will throw the ball in an area where a receiver can get a mitt on the ball.

It’s up to the receiver to do the rest. And Egbuka sure did that Sunday.

  1. Dew Says:

Lets see Tez more with Mike out.

  2. Neal Cooter Says:

One thing that has warmed my cooter this season is the development of this young receiver, do not think the Bucs will win Sunday but will be good to see Godwin play

  3. Hodad Says:

Really hope Godwin not only plays, but plays great helping us win. Hard to believe when we drafted EE he would be our #1 receiver week four. Who steps up even if Godwin plays with Mike out? We have Johnson, and Johnson, Miller, and Mr. energy Sheppard. Hope all play well.

  4. James west Says:

Hope he doesn’t turn out a diva, with a head case problem, 3 game in the League and he’s making that comment about our franchise QB?

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

There’s nothing better than some playful back-and-forth. Touché, well played rookie.

  6. BuckyBuc Says:

EE is what we needed AB to be in 2021-2022.

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Baker missed the go route to Tez in the Jets game. Really hope they work on their timing because once they’re in sync on those deep balls, watch out.

    Go Bucs!

  8. TheBigSombreo Says:

So funny… love that Baker jokes and jives with his teammates… this is great.

EE is not a diva… he just had to respond to Bakers crack… pkus EE has the hall of famer Mike Evans coaching him with the comebacks .. image the WRs laughing while EE cracked back.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

I see some are worried about this Philly game.

A couple of things. First, Tampa seems to always beat Philly at home.

Second, the heat is for real.

Third, Wirfs and Godwin will boost morale.

Fourth, the Philly Offense is built around running. The Bucs Defense has been stifling at times.

3-0 after the ridiculous run things that happened in those 3 games. With all those injuries.

Something is going on right now. Keep rolling.

  10. Dick LeBeau Jr. Says:

James West, you do understand he’s joking right. And there’s no signs with him whatsoever that suggests that he’ll be a diva WR.

  11. Aqualung Says:

Why would anyone want to see more Tezzette? Can’t block, can’t catch. Can’t run fast straight line.

    …………..
    ……………
He is joking around dude. Relax

  13. Bucblind Says:

There is something wrong with Mayfield’s deep ball as in 40-50 yards on a go route because in college he was a surgeon. One game against Oklahoma State he threw 24-36 or 38 for basically 600 yds. He averaged 24.9 per completion that game. He was dropping bombs all day long in their hands in stride. So I know he can do it but I just wonder what is going on.

  14. Neal Cooter Says:

it appears my man Teddy “2 Gloves” Bridgewater will be getting the start today, my prediction he will go 27-30 345 yards 4 td passes and keep the job

  15. orlbucfan Says:

I hope 2 things happen Sunday. One is EE2 and his mentor CG14 play Sunday. The other thing is the defensive secondary. Who will start? That secondary is starting to look like a defensive swarm. It reminds me of Dungy’s secondary which put both Ronde and John Lynch in Canton. They were killer on sacks and picks. If Bridgewater starts, I hope Bake doesn’t riot, injured or not.

Perhaps today……in practice. Sunday will be a different story…

  17. orlbucfan Says:

EE2 is saying insult. Disrespect is long winded. Will EE2 and CG14 play together Sunday? Who will be the lineup for the defensive secondary?

  18. TheShaz Says:

I loved Bakers banter about disrespecting his throws and EE’s response. That it a tight squad and banter like that proves it.

As fro Philly and the heat. Hate to tell you this folks, but since the Bucs built that indoor facility, the Bucs are no where near acclimated to the Florida heat as they used to be.

The Bucs are underdogs at home against the Super Bowl champs and on paper they should be. Even is Wirfs is back, it will be his 1st game and rust is real, the rest of the Oline is a mix of moved about players and guys from the practice squad.

The Bucs are underdogs in this game and that’s why I think that is where I want them to be. Underestimated.

We got them right where we want them.

  19. Kenton Smith Says:

Aqualung. Had alot of respect for your player evaluation. Tez has an instinct for getting open. And, like Bucky, elite skills with the pigskin in hand. Then Aqualung, to speak with less than heavenly intentions about innocent, wonderful, and beautiful and talented Kay Adams? Yeah, I saw the comment yesterday and you need to stop that! Hey! Our relationship is over! Don’t come crying acting like some psycho ex. I know I’ve told you that with me it’s two strikes and you’re Out!

  20. Buc1987 Says:

    Neal Cooter..rolling my eyes …

Where do you peeps come from?

  21. Bojim Says:

    He was joking James.

  22. Neal Cooter Says:

Buc 1987, I reckon I come from the same place you did, my momma’s cooter

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Obviously he’s just having some fun there, means he likes and respects Baker, since that’s not something you say unless you’re on very good terms and can get away with it.

  24. Eckwood Says:

No diva issues !! Just a Chris Godwin clone but slightly different !!
I wouldn’t be upset if they started. Bridgewater , held Wirfs , Godwin , Vea and EE out ……… not saying the Bucks can’t win the game they can but they can’t afford any more big injuries. They are beat up bad !! It’s not like worse in Godwin are probably really ready to go. They need a series or two and that’s about it !! You certainly don’t wanna take a loss on your record, but 17 games is a long season with the team that is this battered.
In Greg Gaines We Believe !!

  25. KABucs Says:

Tez has a long TD pass if Baker is accurate on that throw. Just saying since he was sooooo wide open. Baker’s used to throwing to a 6’5″ dude (Mike couldn’t have gotten to that pass either, truthfully).

Not throwing shade, I know Baker has to keep an eye on the right side pass rush. Can’t hit every open receiver.

  26. GoneGator Says:

Definitely think Tez needs some targets.
He’s elusive and has good hands….. Needs confidence.

As far as the quote goes…. REALLY surprised that so few commenters actually watch the press conferences the quotes are being pulled from. Bucs official site and YouTube have them all but I guess some people prefer to have someone else watch them and tell them what they think.

In this case it’s just some joking between teammates.

  27. MadMax Says:

Well, he’s right lol. But nothing wrong with one handed catches too…whatever it takes….so lucky to have Buka and Baker.

  28. heyjude Says:

Love the video. Buka humbly said it with a smile. That’s a real cohesive team when you can kid around with each other.

  29. adam from ny Says:

his name simply drives me crazy…i can’t take it…haha

i’ve been refering to him as the eggman as a rook…lol…next year never…he’s too good…

i’ve heard baker call him “meka”…and heyjude above ^^^ just called him “buka”…

    buka might be the best…

    booooo-kahhh

that might be the sh!t right there…

i’m sure by season’s end his nickname will be fully crafted

  30. adam from ny Says:

i def see shades of godwin in his game…but i do not see him as a godwin clone…i think his game is a little different the CG’s…similarities tho for sure

  31. adam from ny Says:

if no ME13 and possibly no CG14………

houston, the receiving room now has a problem!

  32. Brian in FL Says:

Breaking balls amongst the boys is a sure sign of a tight knit locker room. You love to see it.

Love that Joe gets all of the dirt, clean or dirty
