Josh Grizzard Seems To Think Baker Mayfield Will Play

September 26th, 2025

Warrior.

Look, Joe has no idea how bad Baker Mayfield’s biceps is on his throwing arm. He’s been bouncing around One Buc Palace just like he usually is.

But the Bucs’ star quarterback was officially limited in practice both Wednesday and yesterday with that bad biceps.

How confident is Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard his quarterback will take the field Sunday against the Super Bowl-champion Eagles?

“He’s as tough as they come,” Grizzard said of Mayfield. “So, being limited [Thursday], we’ve still got another day to work through it, but you see the way the guy practices [and] plays. If he can play, he’ll play.”

Grizzard said Mayfield is fully involved with everything else in preparing for the Eagles. He’s just limited in practice.

“He’s in, of course, all the meetings [and] all the walkthroughs, and he does such a good job of preparing already,” Grizzard said. “Everybody’s on the same page. …

“So, it’s all about mental reps, and he’s taking all of those and is in a good spot and watching all the film and getting all the protections and cans and all the things in order.”

Grizzard seemed to suggest Mayfield might have to be chained to a wheelchair to keep him off the field on Sunday.

It’s not like the Bucs haven’t started an impaired Mayfield in a big game. When the Bucs needed a win at the Stinking Panthers to wrap up the division in the final week of the regular season in 2023, Mayfield started but he was not himself. Mayfield got hurt the week prior against the slimy Saints but was on the field to play the Stinking Panthers, even though he maybe shouldn’t have been. He was clearly impaired in that game and could barely throw. The Bucs won 9-0.

But for Todd Bowles, it was either an impaired Mayfield or Kyle Trask that day.

Yup, Joe agrees with Grizzard. Mayfield would have to be really hurt to keep him sidelined for such a big game like Sunday, when the Bucs host Philadelphia.

He’s not chained to a wheelchair lol, nice. We got this!

  2. heyjude Says:

Oh, Baker is definitely playing. This is going to be one of the most watched games this weekend. I am expecting to see a lot of broadcasting spots on Joe’s map 😊

  3. JA Says:

If he can play he will play.
But that’s not what’s on my mind this morning.
I don’t live and die vicariously through the performance of the Bucs, so it was not until this morning when I came upon a comment from yesterday suggesting I was a racist for criticizing the managerial skills of Todd Bowles.
Truthfully, I was offended. For in no way shape or form does that disease exist in my brain cells. And to make a blanket statement claiming many Bowles critics are racists is plain off base. Evidence please, you sick … won’t go there.
Granted, there are some around (a neighbor comes to mind who openly admits it) and I’ve heard them attempt rationalize it with empty skulls. Their hatred is against those they fear, and that fear is combated with more hatred. To set the record straight, I’m not one of them, nor have I ever been! Had I been alive or older, I would’ve marched with Dr. King.
BTW—Albeit pretty darn young, I was lucky enough to watch Doug Williams play, the great Leroy Selmon too, and I was one of their biggest fans!
And during that time period, when racism was far more overt, Doug Williams went through hell, both on and off the field. And I tip my hat to him for standing up to it with character and grace.

    Well said JA.

  5. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I will say that, heaven help us, Baker doesn’t play, I’m a heck of a lot more confident in Teddy Bridgewater than I was in Kyle Trask.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Only concern would be his timing with Godwin, assuming Godwin is playing Sunday.

  7. Smashsquatch Says:

Is this chronic or acute? How’d he injure his biceps? And if it was a singular event, when did it happen? Intel Joe, I need more intel, get on it!

  8. ATLBuc Says:

He would have to have 2 broken legs not to play.

  9. Steven007 Says:

Generally, the biceps are minimally involved in throwing the ball. If anything, it would be more painful when he’s holding the ball up near his ear before throwing the pass if that’s even a problem. But yeah, I would be curious as to the origin of this particular issue. Maybe it’s something like a bruise where he got it knocked during the game or something. Odd injury for QB.

JA: As much as I try not to read some posts here, because it just looks like troll bait, I understand your call out. To start accusing anyone of something like that or any form of perversion should, in my opinion, get them banned from this and other sites, and I’m sure Joe knows the laws well enough because I don’t. I grew up during those times, I was a kid and my house was full of various ethnic kids, friends of my older siblings, loved them all and as I grew older so were my friends. My brothers best friends and him had to fend of racial hatred before we moved here so I see how it works first hand. Freedom of speech comes with responsibilities, a word too many people don’t apply in their own lives. It’s one thing to have a disagreement, but it’s another to attack someone and start labeling them because of it, that is what the world has become.
Back before social media when we had to talk face to face people had to watch what they said, there were consequences for running your mouth and if your mouth wrote checks your body couldn’t cash, well then you were SOL. Now days people hold up a phone instead of putting out the fire and those same ones talk smack, say the most vile of things and then dare you to do something about it. Real phonies and chicken s***. If one wants to be an adult then act like one.

I appreciate your articles Joe. This one is a non starter. It’s Baker🤙🏾🤙🏾

What’s all this hot air about racism? While we’re at it, about sexism? Quite a few of us have been victims of the latter. Enough! Back to the important stuff: the Bucs.
“Grizzard seemed to suggest Mayfield might have to be chained to a wheelchair to keep him off the field on Sunday.” Man, you would have to commit criminal assault and battery to keep Feisty Bake from playing Sunday. One thing I admired about BA and now, Bowles is the respect they have for player injuries. American football is a violent team sport. We all know it. Some franchises (no names) act like they’re clueless about it. That was always one of my biggest gripes!

  13. Davyboy Says:

Smashsquatch, it looked like he hurt it early in the Jets game when he was just starting the motion forward to throw a pass and a defender hit his arm forcing it into an awkward position.

  14. Nutterbuccer Says:

What is going on with Michael jordan. Can’t find out anything played well got hurt but didnt think it was that serious.

  15. WillieG Says:

I think the bicep is the least important muscle involved in throwing.

  16. Esteban85 Says:

JA they’ve been calling us all racist for years now. If we are all racist then nobody and nothing is racist. Water off a ducks back brother. They forget we live in a meritocracy and the NFL is the greatest meritocracy of all. If Bowles doesn’t produce at a high level we will criticize him and will find someone who will produce at a high level. Was it racist when we replaced Dungy with a short white man named chucky? NO

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    JA

“suggesting I was a racist for criticizing the managerial skills of Todd Bowles.”

Do you have that comment. I’d honestly be interested. Because if someone called YOU a racist I’d be on your side. I do not recall any tinge of racism in your posts.

    ballwasher

“To start accusing anyone of something like that or any form of perversion should, in my opinion, get them banned from this and other sites,”

Again ballwasher I’ll not accuse you of racism! I shall point out that you made the same mistake as JA. ANYONE is a SPECIFIC! Nobody SPECIFIC was accused of anything. I was one of three comments as I recall that was simply making THIS POINT. I’m going to use AI here because I’m well aware of how I’m perceived by many here. This is NOT my OPINION…it’s what AI will tell you if your google.

“Determining the amount of racism in the U.S. is complex because it manifests in both systemic and individual forms, and recent polls show conflicting perceptions of its prevalence. While hate crimes have increased significantly over the last decade, other public opinion polls suggest a decline in the perception that racial discrimination is a major issue. Most data indicates that non-white groups, especially Black Americans, continue to face widespread discrimination in many aspects of life, including the criminal justice system, housing, employment, and healthcare.”

Much of AI’s research was based on Gallup polls.

So the question was…what are the reasons SOME people criticize Bowles.

Three of us attributed SOME of it to racism. Didn’t give any percentage as to how many, IMHO its very minimal…but to deny it exists is just fear of confronting uncomfortable realities. Again NO POSTER was accused and no %’s were even suggested. I think we all agree that it’s definitely a minority.

BTW The guy I spar with most here Aqualung has NEVER posted ANYTHING even remotely racist. I think he truly believes what he spouts, I do not, that’s OK! Lung I do not defend you here I’m defending myself and wish to be clear!

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

One last thought about posting or debating whether its sports or broader society.

I see this mistake being made ALL the time now. Arguing from the specific to the general.

Someone will point out a heinous gruesome crime and then say this guy belonged to (pick your group) and therefore that group is as guilty as that ONE INDIVIDUAL.

AND again, made the equally bad mistake of going from the general to the specific. Stating a small % is not the same as saying INDIVIDUAL Poster.
