It’s All About The Ground Game

September 22nd, 2025

Defensive tackle Vita Vea has helped the team set an NFL record.

The Bucs have established themselves as the best run game team in the NFL. Not just on offense, but on defense, too.

Consider the Bucs have run for at least 100 yards in 11 straight games. That’s the best streak going in the NFL.

And it’s not just about offense.

On defense the Bucs are choking out rushing attacks. The defense, by holding the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets to 99 yards rushing yesterday, has now strung together 11 straight games of not allowing opponents to run the ball for 100 yards in a game.

Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the official statgeeks of the NFL, the Bucs became the first team in NFL history to run for at least 100 yards in 11 straight games on offense and on defense, simultaneously holding opponents to less than 100 yards rushing in 11 straight games.

That’s a stat that should live for a very long time.

  2. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Let’s make it 12, that would be huge against the Eagles.

  3. Buccos Says:

    Incredible stats Joe! Thanks

  4. Cannon Says:

We definitely aren’t a ‘finesse’ team.

  5. Aqualung Says:

That’s really awesome in a passing league where Todd’s pass defense gives up easy completions and YAC for free like candy at school lunch especially on first drives and last drives. This exhibit should be the last straw. Tyrod and one receiving target – Todd let him have two long TD drives of 150 yards total in about 6 minutes. Pitiful. Shameful.

  6. OR Buc Says:

And over the last 11 games we are 9-2. Boom.

  7. Godlovesbucs Says:

Aqualung- pitiful and shameful that they are 3-0 this season?
Or that they are winning without multiple starters?
Or that they are winning with a first time OC?

Im trying to see the pitiful and shameful part of this season, where the bucs are one of only 6 teams still undefeated.

    Sitting on a park bench,
    Eyeing Todd with bad intent!

    Whoa, Aqualung!
    Don’t you go away uneasy!

Injuries are accumulating, 3 and 0 and 9 and 2 may be forgotten, Grizzard may become the new Head Coach in Cincinnati, Todd may blow his next O.C. selection, and, if all else fails, you can always look forward to December’s foggy freeze. Or maybe not. The El Niña may bring a warm winter. Oh, well!

  9. adam from ny Says:

completely shut down saquon barkley and we just might bump up to 4-0

    Great stats to have!

  11. Leighroy Says:

This offensive streak wouldn’t be alive without Baker’s 33yard scramble. Scrambling does not equate to a running game, it only inflates a box score. So it’s a bit of a mirage that might come crashing down next week.

But hey, before the start of the year, I’d have signed up immediately to be 3-1 through the first 4 weeks. It might get ugly next week given the injuries, so I’m willing to be patient if its indeed the case vs the eagles.

  12. dmatt Says:

We’ve gotta play lights out n mistake free football against Philly. We sacked Hurts 6 times last year and Kancey did not play in that game. We held Barkley to under 100 yards n Baker had over 300 yds passing. With the return of Wirf n Godwin, this is a winnable game for us.

  13. Weebs10 Says:

I’m tired of the aqualung schtick

  14. Sapp 2 Fundamentally Sound Says:

    A mirage??
What is our record in the last 11 games?
Of course we’re talking the regular season as the playoff stand by themselves.

I am certain that we have 9 wins… It might be 10 wins.

I’m going with our record in the last 11 games is we have 10 wins… if incorrect I’m sure someone will correct me.

When is the last time our Buccaneers have won 10 out of 11 games in a row

  15. Bosch Says:

Look deeper into cause and effect. Why would any team run the against the Bucs when 300+ passing yards is there for the taking.

What were yards over carry against the Bucs in those same 11 games and where does that rank?

  16. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

This stat is misleading in regard to our offense, because we literally have had a terrible running game in 2 of our first 3 games.

Take out Baker’s runs and we are a bottom-tier running team again after 3 weeks.

Bucky will get like 700 yards rushing for the season at this pace and with a 3-yard average.

We need better playcalling (not predictablyrunning up the gut on 1st downs) and reinforcements to arrive on the Oline.

  17. Aqualung Says:

The snowflakes that ignore reality are like the happy sheep right before the sledgehammer hits it in the temple for Sunday roast.

Todd has to pit in the soft shell turtle when he gets a lead. He can’t stand staying with something that’s working. He’s the only coach I know that can make a Tyrod Taylor, or a Desmond Ritter, or a Cooper Rush, look like hall of famers in the 4th quarter. And then he says, “arr, drrr, I think we took our foot off the gas” and acts bewildered, oblivious that he is in fact the root cause of those defensive collapses.

And he has done, is doing, and won’t do anything to fix Mr Magoo’s special train wreck. You’ve got to try really hard to have a punt blocked the same week as you give up a 55 yard return, to follow that with a FG block for a TD that should have cost you the game.

The head coach is accountable for these things.

It’s unlikely that Todd will have a lead in the 4thQ against the Eagles, they’ll know how to build a lead of their own since our offense is now operating on carbon monoxide fumes, and they know a first drive score against Bowles is automatic.

The annual swoon is coming. The Baker magic isn’t sustainable.

  18. Herbiebuc Says:

How can some of you dismiss baker running when those runs helped us win the game?

  19. Herbiebuc Says:

    *unpopular take
I don’t think Bucky is a 3 down back, I think he’s a excellent change of pace running back. We’re exposing him way too much I think r white is better suited because he can pass block. Needless to say they both do a heck of a job complimenting each other, I just feel were over working Bucky which was different from last year and he still got the production.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Aqualung, good thing it’s still a free country. You are the written definition of a snowflake. BTW, Jethro Tull was a great band. You’re anything, but. How in the world can the Bucs have a great running game when their OLine is so banged up, both White and Bucky have had to help with both catching and blocking? Seriously? No wonder Bake has all the yards, and the wins, too. Get suited up, Mr. Wirfs. Your whole team needs you.

  21. JohnQCitizen Says:

Yep, Bucky was a little overused yesterday. He is amazing though.

  22. bucs63 Says:

A win is a win but the run game was less than spectacluar. Baker acounted for more than 35% of the rushing yards on his 4 carries. Bucky and White averaged 2.6 and 2.4 yds per carry respectively. That’s reminiscent of a few years ago when we were ranked last in the league. Granted the Offensive Line probably takes much of the blame for that. Hopefully that issue sees some rapid improvement
