Stunning Stat For Baker Mayfield, Bucs Offense
September 22nd, 2025
“He caught me, Kyle.”
This was eye-opening research by the interns at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.
So the Bucs have gone three consecutive games without a turnover. Baker Mayfield, despite two fumbles in three games, has done a strong job protecting the football. And so have other Bucs with the ball in their hands.
How often does that happen? How often have the Bucs gone three straight games without the offense coughing up the rock?
The answer surprised Joe.
In every Tom Brady season with Tampa Bay, the Bucs had a three-game streak of no turnovers. However, that was it in Bucs history. Before Brady arrived, no Bucs team ever had three games in a row without a turnover.
Stunning!
If the Bucs can keep protecting the football Sunday against the Eagles, they’ll set a new franchise record.
Fun fact: In 1988, the Bucs turned the ball over 52 times in 16 games. That far eclipsed the Bucs’ 41 turnovers in 2019, the final year of the Jameis Winston experience.

I had the Bucs with 52 turnovers in 1988. Historically, there used to be lots more turnovers. According to Statmuse — the Bucs 1988 season does not make the top 25 in NFL history.

That 88 season was not a good one under Vinny and Perkins. 5-11 with just enough wins to miss out on Deion Sanders, Derrick Thomas and Barry Sanders in the draft.

Behind a Frankenstein OL. With a defense Baker knows is gonna give up the booty. Bravo.

If memory serves, Vinny threw 36 picks that year.
I would imagine that three turnover-free games in a row is rare for any team.

Damn, that’s over 3 times per game. Won’t win too many at that rate.

Joe, has Baker ever talked about wearing gloves? He fumbles at a high rate.

Thanks, Joe. I actually, already knew this but was trying to keep it on the down low, in hopes of not jinxing them. This was the one area, that Baker HAD TO improve upon, in order to ever be considered at the very TOP of the QB-class.

Damn… Jameis had 30 picks and 4 fumbles and Vinny had 35 picks and 13 tds in 1988. How about those #1 overall picks.
