No Updates (Yet) On Injured Bucs

September 16th, 2025

Injury talk.

Last night the Bucs were in a very physical game with the Texans and the walking wounded for Tampa Bay demonstrated that.

The Bucs took major hits to the trenches when right tackle Luke Goedeke and defensive tackle Calijah Kancey both went down with a foot and pec injuries, respectively.

The early fears about Kancey’s injury are not promising.

At his morning-after presser, Bucs coach Todd Bowles didn’t have an update on either player. He said both are scheduled for MRI tests this afternoon.

A guy who apparently did not get hurt Bowles said is fine, however. Linebacker SirVocea Dennis was not on the field late in the game. He had a shaky first quarter and it almost appeared Houston targeted him at times.

Bowles emphasized Dennis was not benched. Bowles suggested Dennis’ issues were more the ever-popular communication problems.

“No, we did not bench SirVocea at the end of the game,” Bowles said. “He didn’t play bad. There was miscommunication on the one that was a checkdown that involved quite a few people.

“As he gets his footing down and plays, we have full confidence in him that he’ll play better and he’ll be fine.”

Either Bowles really, really likes Dennis and thinks he’s a player given the mistakes Bowles tolerates, or he doesn’t trust Deion Jones.

Joe has to keep reminding himself that Dennis has missed so much time in his two seasons with the Bucs, he’s still very green. Last night was his second career start.

Well Dennis looked way worse in the first 2 games than he did last year before he went out so I hope you’re right on the being green thing Joe. Aikman said it best that Dennis wasn’t trusting his eyes when looking into the back field and not seeing the back coming out, he also looked like he was out of place on more than a few plays coming in late to the party and seeming confused on where he should be. We’ll see.

It’s almost “B.A. time” on McAfee… I have my DVR SET. Must See Tv!!!!

Good point about Dennis being green. Let’s hope he learns quickly. Rhonde Barber was not great his first two years.

  4. MelvinJunior Says:

Dennis rarely sees/knows where the ball is. He has to start playing the position more like an ‘off-ball’ defender in basketball, when your man doesn’t have the ball. Pitino was THE BEST at teaching that. It would really help him A LOT.

How is Baker doing? He was visibly limping at the end of the game, much as we saw late last year.

Colin’s opening about the Bucs right now, on “The Herd,” is FANTASTIC.

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Dennis has made a handful of mistakes thus far – gotten himself pretty badly out of position a couple/few times…. the good news is that most of what we are seeing go “wrong” with #8’s play in the first 2 games is correctable.

The other good news – Voss IS also making meaningful plays out there.

11 solo tackles (14 total) – 3 TFLs – 1 QB hit and a pass defensed is a pretty good stat line through 2 games for a MLB that hasn’t played all the snaps and is still quite green regarding career snaps as Joe pointed out….

Dennis just needs to stay healthy (no small trick on this team) and he will be better than fine by midseason.

Think they need to go with Dion Jones and it’s a huge problem that Luke and Kancy are getting MRI they might be down for awhile.

  10. Bucnjim Says:

Wearing that #8 is messing with my head while watching the game. Unfortunately, he looks like a receiver trying to play LB sometimes. Hopefully, he gets himself in a better position to make plays.

  11. Warren Says:

The Kancey thing doesn’t really move the needle for me. He’s just unfulfilled promise at this point.

  12. Aqualung Says:

Time for someone to tell the head coach to tell the defensive coordinator that Dennis sucks and Deion Jones needs to play. Period.

    The rookies looked good tonight

Let LVD wear the green dot!!

    GO BUCS

  15. Brandon Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the MLB platoon, Dennis on running downs and Jones on passing downs. They both look good doing one thing but not necessarily the other.

SVD wears corrective lenses known as glasses. I do, too. Is that a major liability in pro ball?
