Tristan Wirfs On Practice Field Today

September 11th, 2025

Another step was taken today toward All-World left tackle Tristan Wirfs suiting up for the Bucs in Week 4 against the Eagles.

There’s been no announcement by the Buccaneers, but Wirfs told JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman that he was dialed on a Week 4 return. And today, Wirfs was back on the practice field. (See the X photo below from Aileen Hnatiuk of WFLA-TV.)

Wirfs shouldn’t be rushed in his return from early July knee surgery. As Baker Mayfield told the Buccaneers Radio Network on Monday, teammates are telling Wirfs they want him to return totally ready to play through January (and beyond?).

Whatever, it’s a beautiful sight to see Wirfs on a field.

  1. Dom Says:

Luke Goedeke was out though. Hopefully he can play this week. Having two back up tackles going up against Hunter and Anderson is not ideal

  2. Aqualung Says:

Just waiting for this announcement –

“After practice, it was determined that Wirfs will need surgery for another undisclosed injury they were hoping would heal by itself. “

  3. geno711 Says:

That picture of Wirfs from the twitter account — does not inspire that close of a return timeline IMO.

Might have been just a bad picture —- but he is not really bending on that knee yet — right. So that picture does not really appear to me that he is a few days or 10 days from game ready shape.

But good that we have the start of some things for him.

It is good there are target dates forming for Wirfs and Godwin. Get them back, then MacMillan a month later, and the offense will be ready for what looks like a fairly mild stretch run into the playoffs, schedule wise.

  5. First Last Says:

    Dom, what was Goedeke’s injury?

  6. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Hopefully Goedeke isn’t out because of concussion-related symptoms.

One more bad concussion and Goedeke will prob have to retire.

    That would be terrible.

Wear that goofy helmet shell, Luke! Who cares if it looks silly. We need you here for many years!

  7. JA Says:

Forget the X-rays and MRI’s. There’s only one surefire test to conclude whether Wirfs is ready to play.
If the doctors cannot decide, remove the knee brace and dress him in a bathing suit. Throw him into a swimming pool. If he can jump out of the pool and land on his feet, he’s ready to go.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Great news

  9. orlbucfan Says:

Wirfs wouldn’t be outside in the heat and humidity if his knee was bad. Not worried about Goedeke. Practicing outdoors down here in CFL is no walk in the park. This is a very good and positive sign. Hopefully, a lucky one, too.

It is all happening, this is great news. I’d like to think practicing again not only boost morale, but it gives guys like Wirfs, Godwn, & JMac some opportunities to re-gain their pre-injury confidence. From the sounds of things, there’s a plan in place and we’ll be that much closer to getting better with these guys in the mix.

Quietly hoping getting these dudes back is just another story bead in our eventual SB run and victory.

I can hear it now “they started without Wirfs, Godwin, & McMillan, but. . .”

    Why not us?

  11. Whatevs Says:

Aqua… no negative comments or funny stuff. OBF will get upset.

We are the greatest collection of coaches, players and fans. Todd “walks on water” Bowles will get us another ring this year.

  12. Wild Bill Says:

Sure wish you negative nancy’s would take a deep breath. You know who I mean.

  13. ReeeBarrr Says:

    LFG!

    Dom:
We have waited months for this positive news in your response was
“ Luke Goedeke was out though.”

It’s okay to just celebrate the positive, the topic, of Wirfs returning

  15. heyjude Says:

Great news! A few more weeks to wait is okay. Maybe the 49ers or Lions game.

  16. Buckit Says:

OMG – now Todd has Grizz lining Tristin up at running back. . .

  17. orlbucfan Says:

Well, look who showed up. The it who calls itself Whatevs. Guess it can’t spell whatever.
