Baker Mayfield Liked His First Game With Teddy Bridgewater

September 9th, 2025

Bucs backup QB Teddy Bridgewater.

So the Bucs handed Baker Mayfield a gift last month.

They put a savvy, successful veteran quarterback alongside him to work with and learn from.

That’s Teddy Bridgewater.

No, Joe’s not delivering a backhanded slap to Kyle Trask, but how much was Trask realistically going to be able to help Mayfield?

Last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Mayfield acknowledged how Bridgewater is impacting the team.

“He’s able to communicate the things that I’m not able to do every single day,” Mayfield said of Bridgewater. “He’s another voice for this quarterback room; he can make sure we’re all on the same page. That’s, I mean, you can’t replace that. That’s extremely vital for us to have that communication throughout the year. A great guy on the sideline to have. Just having him in live action for the first time [Sunday] and just being able to bring up different ideas on the sideline, tell me what they’re doing, different looks. It’s helpful.”

Anything that helps Mayfield is a good thing. Joe’s almost surpised the Bucs didn’t add a seasoned veteran QB last year, considering how much Bucs decision-makers have spoken of the value of Bridgewater’s experience since signing him.

All the more reason why this was the obviously correct move.

  2. White Tiger Says:

This was a critical addition. Teddy B gives Baker more than a decent backup. Teddy has seen a lot and LOVE hearing that he’s someone Baker can use in-game for some input he can trust.

  3. PSL Bob Says:

With Bridgewater we have a known commodity. He can step in if Baker gets hurt, and you know he’ll perform well. He’s seen it all. Whereas Trask was nothing but a big question mark. I liked the guy, but he was simply a black box. You have no idea what’s inside till you open it up.

  4. Cobraboy Says:

    But But But

    Trask is a Gator.

Is not that supposed to mean something?

    /sarc

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    Has the pass rush arrived?

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. TampaBayBucFan Says:

There really can be no argument that if Baker goes down, Bridgewater is a more suitable backup for Mayfield

Bridgewater could start for many teams right now.

Let’s hope we don’t have to use him.

  7. HC Grover Says:

    Blooper Bilgewater on the job.

  8. Aqualung Says:

It’s crazy to think there are tards who type amongst us, ignorant to the fact that having Trashk in your ear wouldn’t have been any different than having Forrest Gump as your backup QB.

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

The oblique Trask post. Bridgewater is a worn out rusty backup. He is a long way from stupid though and does have a lot of experience. Let’s hope he stays on the sidelines all season long. But isn’t that really supposed to be Tom Moore’s job?

  10. ReeeBarrr Says:

Maybe maybe.. Trask not being in his ear was the reason for the slow start

    I’m joking

  11. First Last Says:

Traskposting is going to have to go away Joe, at least by mid-season. But knowing the traskaholics out there you will keep posting until the 2026 season.

Onto Bridgewater, I really like him as a backup because we know if Mayfield gets trucked in a game, he can finish it out and hopefully win it for us.

  12. mj Says:

baker had been so tough anybody else would get hurt taking on linebackers
    let’s hope he stays healthy

sunday they showed teddy on the sideline all by himself looking bored :0

  13. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

And besides, what else can Baker say really?

  14. #99 the big fella Says:

Ok HC Grover ,We know you don’t like teddy Bridgewater. It’s the same crap with you

  15. Temple Terrace Krewe Says:

If the Bucs have to rely on Teddy at any point during this season to be anything other than a second set of eyes, they’re in trouble. That high school arm strength will get guys killed.

  16. Aqualung Says:

Joe, please publish one article every day about the Bucs 2nd and 3rd string QBs. They are entertaining and informative.

Also thanks for keeping everyone appraised about Trask’s new team.

    Wait, there isn’t one? Oh.

    Oh.

  17. Marky mark Says:

Does Rastaman vibrations bring up the bong along. Irie

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

But, but, but…Didn’t the football guru Rod Munch think that Bridgewater got a player injured? I know injuries are very rare in the NFL, so in mind of the Mayor of Munchkinland, it HAD to be Teddy’s fault.

  19. orlbucfan Says:

Like the dreads Teddy’s sportin’ in the pic, Joe.👍 Seriously, he does have the experience and has played for winning teams. However, Bake needs to get with it on the sliding. I really want Mr. Feisty to be careful AND STAY HEALTHY so he can play with the full WR Terrible Trio. Hey Marky mark, I have all of Bob Marley’s LPs on vinyl. So, Irie right back at ya!🎶

  20. Stanglassman Says:

If you watched the interview you’d know how much he meant it. Take a look at his expression on his face when he spoke about the importance of having Teddy’s insight during that game.

  21. JD Still Says:

Yup , journeyman Baker likes having Journeyman Teddy on the sidelines, it’s comforting knowing he has a dude that’s been fired from more teams than he has backing him up, and he doesn’t have to look over his shoulder everyday looking at the guy he knows beat him out in the “competition “ two years ago.

Terrible analogy. Did you even see the movie? Forest Gump was successful at absolutely everything he attempted. I guess you just thought a cute ableist comment (actually 2) would make you appear witty. Fail

  23. Tom R Says:

I’ll never understand why the Bucs invested in Trask for 4 years?

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Jack Meoff are you always going to be wrong like your brother Jeff?

So far you seem like a couple of idiots.

  25. #99 the Big Fella Says:

lol Buc1987 You are so correct
Everything they say makes them look really dumb!

  26. BuccaDAWG Says:

Bridgewater has NFL experience which is good, plus he was rather Head Coach of one of the best HS teams in the biggest region in Fla & in Miami so he actually has experience coaching thats gotta be useful i would think.

  27. jimmy Says:

The trasketeers are gonna get whipped in to a frenzy!!

  28. ModHairKen Says:

    Liked Trask, but trust Licht.

  29. Jmarkbuc Says:

Trask was cut because Teddy had a #1 hit with “ Fast Car”

  30. Aqualung Says:

ChiBuc – you must be in Forrest’s special needs class. He loved Dr Pepper and worked hard, sure. But the shrimp fortune was a “grace of god” thing. Pure luck. If you haven’t ever seen the movie it’s available to watch for free.

But since you are apparently from Chicago, let Aqualung help.

Trask is slow mentally. He kinda sounds like Forrest when he talks. Baker is a little more of a fast processor. Needs someone with an IQ and awareness of the current goings-on higher than Forrest’s.

Naa I know that’s not going to help, you either.

    Wear your #2 jersey proudly.
