“You Don’t Buy That”

September 1st, 2025

Called out by local sports anchor.

Evan Closky isn’t buying what Drew Brees is selling.

Closky, the local WTSP-TV Channel 10 sports anchor, couldn’t pass up a fat fastball coming right down the pike. So he took a swing at Brees, the former slimy Saints signal-caller who someday will have a bust in Canton.

Brees appeared on “Up and Adams” recently, the FanDuel TV weekday show hosted by the seductive Kay Adams. There, Brees tried to sell a highly skeptical Adams that no team in the NFC South scares him and that the slimy Saints have just as much a chance of winning the division as the Bucs, Stinking Panthers and Dixie Chicks.

Closky couldn’t hold back and he carved out some time last week on his nightly sportscast to basically, politely tell Brees he’s full of it.

“Really Drew?” Closky began. “Really? The last time you stepped on a football field the Buccaneers sent you into retirement.

“I know you are one of the greatest Saints of all time. You have to say stuff like this. But I cannot, I cannot let this go unchecked.”

Closky then began to spit facts: how many division titles in a row the Bucs have won, how many passing yards Baker Mayfield has.

And, Closky noted, the last time the Bucs visited the Cajun version of Lincoln’s Tomb the slimy Saints play in, the Bucs put belt to ass on the Saints.

In short, Closky doesn’t think Brees honestly believes a word he said about how the Bucs don’t scare him. Because the Bucs should scare him and all of that voodoo-laden French Quarter.

Can you imagine if we had gotten Brees instead of the Saints? And then we got Brady and Mayfield?

Man, what a difference that would have made in this century.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai…we were truly blessed by the football gods that Brady graced us with his presence.

  3. LouisFriend Says:

The odds are good Brees actually believes what he’s saying and wasn’t willing to water it down for Adams. He spent his entire career loading up his stats when playing against the Bucs and the Saints won most of the matchups.

The guy has a perspective about the Bucs formed over the period of time when the Bucs were mostly dead in the water and the Saints stole their lunch money. For Brees it’ll probably be hard to shake.

    With that, F*#! him.

  4. Bucswin Says:

What a joke! He is still bitter! Go Bowles!

  5. SlyPirate Says:

Brees tells a story about Manning coming into the Saints locker room and congratulating each player after he lost to them in the Super Bowl. He was amazed by the level of class.

Looks like it didn’t rub off on him.

  6. Darin Says:

His opinion. The season starts soon so we will find out. Nobody is apologizing to anyone now or after the season for their opinion. So let’s settle it on the fields

  7. heyjude Says:

Brees always had that uppity vibe. It’s still there. Glad he was never on the Bucs.

  8. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Go EVAN!!

  9. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

He sounds like a Traskie. SMH

  10. Allen Lofton Says:

He’s RETIRED and his bias comments about the Saints dimensions his legacy. The truth is always relevant. Loyalty is admirable. Now you are lowering your standards and making yourself look foolish. (I could have chosen other words but I didn’t want to go there).

  11. mj Says:

i don’t agree with him at all but with so much parody anyone can win any week

  12. Oneilbuc Says:

How many times Brady mention the bucs since he retired?

  13. BatW Says:

    Drew is losing it!

  14. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Does anyone have Drew’s number? I’d like to make a few bets with him.

  15. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Drew is still bitter we packed him up like a 12 pack of natural ice tall boys

  16. KABucs Says:

He’s still thinking he’s their quarterback and it’s 6-7 years ago.
Did Drew actually look up the team to see who is actually quarterbacking over there? I don’t think so. LOL
    Delusional. False hope building.

  17. Zoocomics Says:

It’s funny, when both Peyton and Brees were primetime color commentators, anytime they were doing a Bucs game, they always picked against Tampa, and sometimes they were the ONLY ones picking against Tampa. I swear as I type this, they were right every damn time. And why, yeah, you can call them haters, but even as a fan can you trust this team?

I love my Bucs, but call it whatever it is, they do a terrible job playing up to the hype, it’s one of the aspects of this franchise, historically that is exhausting. Even with Brady, we had a slow start out the gate as he got adjusted to everything being new, yet this roster was loaded, and it just so happens we weren’t favored in ANY game down that Super Bowl stretch. Following year, we got favored, and we squeaked by some sh!tty teams, and we managed to lose 3 of our 4 losses to backup QBs! Plus, we played a horrible game against the Rams in the playoffs. We were lucky to be in it during that Ram’s final possession that we blame Bowles for. Go back and watch that game, Rams didn’t out play us, we looked bad.

We know on paper this team is better than most of the league, and yet if we’re not playing the spoiler or underdog, we can’t seem to play up the hype…and let’s be honest, it sucks sometimes. We want to talk about getting Baker’s extension, being a top 5 QB and all that crap. He needs to rise above ALL OF THIS and be the guy opposing defenses fear with the ball in a final possession. Let’s change this stupid narrative.

  18. Marky mark Says:

Does Brees work for the Saints Broadcast team? Brady only spent a tiny percentage of his career here. Tom also owns 2 Football teams and does broadcasting.

  19. Go Bucs Says:

@Buccaneer Bonzai! Why are you trying ruin my Labor Day with this thought? N

  20. Aqualung Says:

It’s for one reason. Bucs scare no one when the coich won’t even coach up his own players while he’s calling soft zones and not going for 2 and calling frivolous Timeouts, or not calling them at all. Done with the Toddster.

  21. Stpetematt Says:

    @ Lofton- diminishes
    @mj- parity

    🙂

  22. Winny Testaverde Says:

The only worse than his post playing career takes might be his post playing career hairpiece.

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Drew Brees. A poor man’s Baker Mayfield.

  24. Half_Sac Says:

Been coming here for years and Bonzai is still stupid. What timeline could we get Brees and Brady. Brady was in Tampa for Brees last year lol
