Will The Raiders Call For Kyle Trask?

August 25th, 2025

For those yet to review all the preseason games and happenings of this past weekend, Raiders No. 2 quarterback Aidan O’Connell broke his throwing wrist in the final Las Vegas preseason game.

So the Raiders are hunting for a veteran backup as O’Connell will miss a couple of months.

The Bucs have a guy Vegas co-owner Tom Brady and general manager John Spytek know very well. That former Gators star and current fifth-year Tampa Bay quarterback Kyle Trask. Spytek and Brady both were on the Bucs’ payroll when Trask was drafted in 2021, and each spent years around Trask. Heck, Spytek was in Tampa when Trask was “this close” to beating out Baker Mayfield for the starting job in 2023.

The Bucs seemed to have devalued Trask and Trask looks like the kind of player who would benefit from a fresh start.

Will the Raiders inquire? And if not, why not?

Joe’s rooting for Trask. It sure would be nice to see him play a real game at some point.

    Take a 7th round pick!

  2. Whatevs Says:

LOL. There are a couple people here that would value Trask as 2 first rounders for a trade. Cough… Rod…. Cough

  3. Tbbucs3 Says:

If they dont it’ll be a telling sign

  4. LongSeason Says:

I was thinking the same thing. Somehow mix up a trade with Raiders involving Trask for Maxx Crosby.

  5. Ds Says:

Trask Mob is worse than the Glennon Mob lol

  6. LakelandBuc Says:

Kyle Trask was drafted to study, learn from a pure pocket passer (Tom Brady). But when Brady retired, they decided to go with Baker Mayfield as their starting QB. It don’t make sense to keep a pure pocket passer, as your backup to a mobile ( Chain moving) QB. But l truly believe Trask is good , young, pocket passer. Who can start in this ( Pass Happy) league). With this said, l think the Bucs keep Kyle Trask, I’m not sure if they will keep 3 QB.

I believe they will keep Trask, not sure about Bridgewater

  7. Truth be Told Says:

Take whatever we can get. If has to play because Bake gets hurt- we are in Big Trouble!!

  8. Coburn Says:

Agree with you lake. People all ready to throw him under the bus after one bad preseason game between a couple or decent ones. I’m still not convinced Bridgewater was necessarily his replacement. They needed more qbs in camp, tjey liked the guy, he was just on his couch, so why not. If they keep 2 I’m not 100% sure who gets the axe.

  9. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Am I missing something? Did the Bucs say they would cut Trask or is this just speculation?

  10. Todd Says:

Pete Carroll said: “All possibilities are available right now. I mean, wherever they come from, and we’re looking everywhere to see if we can find the best guy that fits us. So if you don’t mind, I’m not going to really lay out exactly what we’re looking for here, so I don’t want to show our hand, but I want somebody who’s played. That’s what’s important, a guy that’s had game experience is really huge to me.”

So no Trask is NOT going to the Raiders, but Bridgewater could.

  11. Durango 95 Says:

The two village idiots Bowles and Licht have screwed up the Trask situation so badly it’s a freakin’ embarrassment to this franchise. Licht dropped a 2nd round pick and a second contact. Bowles record of developing young QB’s is somewhere below zero and pathetic.

  12. BPBucsfan Says:

No one is calling for Trask. Please.

  13. MelvinJunior Says:

I seriously, do not understand all of the Trask hate, at all. I totally, understand the level of hate for these “Trask-Lovers” (they are no different to me than the “Baker-Bois” – all completely insanely biased)… But, NOT for the ‘player’ himself. He has done NOTHING wrong whatsoever, and seemingly, has been a GREAT teammate. I don’t get it. Some people are just not capable of separating the two, I guess.

  14. BayouBullet Says:

There’s only 28 yards between Trask and myself. I better keep my phone close… Lol

  15. sunny Says:

lol if they wanted trask they could have gotten him on the cheap when he was a free agent, or even before if they wanted to trade for him.

plus, they literally said that they were looking for an experienced veteran qb and trask ain’t it.

San Francisco got a 4th round pick for Trey Lance, who had lots of game film, all of it horrible. I think that’s a pretty good benchmark, especially given the Raiders are in a more desperate situation than Dallas was at that time.

  18. Bantry Says:

Trask, Palmer and Watts for Tyree Wilson. Also swap 6th round pics in ’26 if it will get Spytech to agree.

  19. BakerFan Says:

If Trask goes to the Raiders, relax Traskies, it is still for a backup role.

  21. David Says:

Probably depends on what Brady thought of him.
Personally, I think he should be the back up instead of Teddy, but I will gladly take Teddy as back up if they can get any type of draft pick for Trask.

  22. Saskbucs Says:

Unless Licht is drafting an OL or DB… we gotta get him trading out of round 2. Trask, Aguayo, Spence … all terrible picks. Trask and Aguayo are almost unforgivable. Good thing he has been exceptional aside from a few bad moves.

I was of the opinion that Trask would be fine if needed but the Bridgewater signing makes me think we need to move on. Teddy #2 and away we go.

  23. RBUC Says:

Joe how the hell do you think a QB is coming back from a broken wrist in only 60 days#?%!?!!!!!

  24. Lt. Dan Says:

    Trask for an ILB?

  25. Red zone Says:

Joes – you have a tendency to passive aggressively call out what seems to be a pattern of hypocrisy or mistruth when it comes to the Bucs – are other teams this full of spit when it comes to dealing with fans or media?

  26. Usedtocould Says:

Time to get rid of the trash! Trade him for a ham sandwich!

  27. firethecannons Says:

we must get a draft pick and a player, we have put alot of time into this player and need to be appropriately compensated

  28. BucVoyager Says:

Couldn’t trade him for wet cheeto dust. He’s done nothing in his time here with the Bucs. You would think that he would have forced them to put him on the field at least in garbage time. His practice tape must be brutal. Of Brady and Spytek have seen him so they won’t be calling.

  29. Yusef Says:

I really love Trask really want the kid to succeed. I think Bucs would have leaned into Trask had Baker not come here. Unfortunately I think it’s the case of right place wrong time. I would love for him to stick around but he knows he needs to prioritize his career, and his opportunity to start somewhere. And if he does that’s great, Rooting for the kid!

  30. Pewter Power Says:

Trask is going to be the backup and Bridgewater is going to the practice squad

  31. infomeplease Says:

Hunters Crack Pipe says…”San Francisco got a 4th round pick for Trey Lance, who had lots of game film, all of it horrible. I think that’s a pretty good benchmark, especially given the Raiders are in a more desperate situation than Dallas was at that time.”

Before that trade Lance started four games for San Francisco with a 2W/2L record. Kyle trask has a NFL record of 0W/0L. He is an unknown NFL commodity. Know one knows if he is even a capable backup. Although the Buc’s seem to think he might be.

  32. White Tiger Says:

Trask was available when Teddy B was sick and had a decent showing. He’s still not starting caliber but has some experience.

Teddy B’s preseason week 2 performance showed that he can move this team i. This offense. Still has something in the tank and a lot of experience.

Still think if you were to put both Kyle & Teddy B on the practice squad, Teddy B would be the target for most NFL teams looking for a backup, just based on his experience and what he showed.

I like Kyle, but I wish him the best. If he sees starting action, it will be as an emergency/short term guy. Same as Teddy B, but there’s no hesitancy in Teddy B, he can push the ball down the field better than Kyle. Grizz has familiarity with him, and he seems to fit this offense.

Besides, Kyle would not do so well behind the current o-line without Tristan covering his blindside.

  33. Beeej Says:

If either of them leaves the team, it will probably be Teddy to the raiders. They put him in the first half of that second game with the starters and he looked pretty good

  34. Dr Says:

My suspicion is the Raiders may well inquire and offer at most a fourth round pick next year — or third round with exchange of another pick. Fingers crossed for Trask — he likely won’t find opportunity in Tampa without injurie to Mayfield and Bridgewater .

  35. ST Says:

Going into the season without a backup seems risky for a team looking to make a SB run. I don’t see how you can rely on Bridgewater for the long haul. He is frail and probably won’t hold up if he has to play a game or two.

  37. DrunkInYbor Says:

Trade trask to any team for a ILB that can play some decent football.

  38. Hogslyr Says:

Trask hasn’t gotten any better in 4 years, trade him if you can!

  39. matthew a veal Says:

rich gannon spent 4 years on the bench, finally winning the job midseason his 5 th year and even then had a time finding a home.
tommy maddox had a similar background and had to quit a couple of years after 4 years of trying, and worked his way from minor league football.

i believe in trask, if the bucs cant make it work, its on him to find a home. easier said than done.

I did not know that. And my apologies… I did not see your Gravatar when I made that comment. 🍻

  41. Kenton Smith Says:

I’d rather keep 3 QBs. I think all of them could win in a pinch, especially with the team we’ve got. If QB is the most important position we’d be lucky to have 3 QBs that can actually give us a chance.

  42. SMH Says:

Yeah…let’s keep Bridgwater and see how many receivers he can put in the hospital. That’s better than having a Gator on the team!

Wow these comments are going to be popcorn worthy tonight. I wish Trask well.

  49. LakelandSteve Says:

Sometimes all someone needs is a little change of scenery. Hopefully he gets a chance to play somewhere else

  50. Bucs since 76 Says:

The Bucs didn’t trust Trask to be their backup. I sure they tried to trade up with no takers. Bridgewater made one bad pass that got JM hurt be after that he was pretty accurate. Trask hasn’t show that he is getting better if anything he is getting worse. I am a Gator fan and liked Trask I thought he would be great. However it hasn’t worked out for him here. Maybe a new team with a fresh start will give him a chance to show how good he can be.

  51. Bartow Buc Says:

Joe you nailed it !! I believe the Raiders will call Trask to be their backup QB !!

    Go Bucs 2025 !!

  52. Ldiaz Says:

Trask rhymes with trash……bye Felicia what a waste of time and money. This garbage pail didn’t learn anything playing with Brady and Mayfield

  53. Ldiaz Says:

Gator fans trying to make the rest of us believe that Trask is good is like me thinking that McDonald’s food is healthy for me. No team in their right mind will pick up that fraud

  54. sunny Says:

apparently every other team in the nfl is in on some kind of conspiracy to keep kyle trask down.

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I really hope he goes to the Raiders.

  56. matthew a veal Says:

the raiders went with pickett from the browns instead

  57. Scotty Mack Says:

NOBODY is going to pick up Trask other than the Bucs on the practice squad, perhaps. He has zero tape and there are already far better QB options released by other teams. Dude throws lollypops – works in college where receivers often have nobody within ten yards of them, but not the NFL.

  58. FortMyersDave Says:

Raiders gave up a 6th rounder for Pickett from Cleveland. So, Trask would be the third string qb at best in Vegas.

  59. Blazerj7 Says:

From high school, to college (Florida and Pro (Buccaneers), all Trask has ever done on the field is WIN! He has always sterted as the backup but won when he got on the field. Does that sound like someone else we all know… Tom Brady! Brady was a skinny, pocket-passing kid who somehow became the GOAT. There is a reason most scrambling, run-first NFL QBs bite the dust in the end. They are “flashy” and exciting but somehow never get you to the promised land (Super Bowl). Trasks accuracy, smarts and “touch” when needed as a passer are like Brady’s…. Whoever lands Trask WINS… After all is said Brady wasn’t a scrambler but New England and Bucs fans always enjoyed WINNING and getting to the promised land.
