Chase Edmonds: Baker Mayfield “Reminds Me Of A Modern Day Brett Favre”
August 22nd, 2025
Confidence in Baker Mayfield.
A former Bucs running back has no doubt who the Bucs will turn to in these depressing days navigating through significant injuries to offensive starters.
Baker Mayfield will find a way. That’s what former Bucs running back Chase Edmonds said this week on “Good Morning Football,” seen on NFL Network.
“It doesn’t matter what ingredients ‘Bake’ cooks with,” Edmonds began. “I think he’s gonna go out there and he’s gonna really install the confidence of that entire group, that entire offens.
“‘Hey, it don’t matter who’s out here. We’re wheeling and dealing, we’re dial it up and we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna score big points.'”
With the Bucs, Edmonds said he has seen a transformation with Mayfield and he’s beginning to show similarities to a famous gunslinger in Wisconsin.
“I mean, Baker reminds me of a modern-day Brett Favre, nowadays,” Edmonds said. “Like, he’s really wheeling and dealing, he’s gunslinging. He’s earned his respect in the league.”
Edmonds said he has “no ifs, ands or buts or questions about it” that Mayfield will find a way to win games without his All-Pro left tackle [Tristan Wirfs], Pro Bowl receiver [Chris Godwin] and rising young receiver [Jalen McMillan].
If the Bucs can go 3-1 in the first four games and be able to get Godwin and Wirfs back for Week 5 in Seattle, Joe would consider that a major accomplishment.

and a certain group keeps dissing him and his fans….pathetic. We know who we have in Baker. Watch him win a superbowl, then get back to us bakerhaters…smh
August 22nd, 2025 at 4:38 am
And Teddy looks amazing!
He threw some sick passes!
Teddy is also perfect for this offense.
Teddy was a great signing!
August 22nd, 2025 at 5:31 am
Ah yes, the weekly Baker Mayfield propaganda article. How’s about saving the Super Bowl talk and let’s just hope he doesn’t have the 8 games we went 3-5 in last where he threw for <250 yards and our offense averaged a turnover per game lol
You call it hate, I call you serial glazers
August 22nd, 2025 at 5:32 am
Just think, if Baker baked at 221b Baker Street, the entire world would know him as … ?
Chase Edmonds has a show? Seems there isn’t an ex NFL’er alive who doesn’t have a podcast, radio or TV show. Guess the new thing is about revealing to the masses …
“Think I was just a football player? Wrong! Tune in later to discover the untapped talent within ‘the man behind the mask.’”
August 22nd, 2025 at 6:05 am
Beating Atlanta in their crib would be a nice start.
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:06 am
Not worried about the offense. Our Pass D needs to improve and we need to create more turnovers on D. If we can improve in those areas, we will be better this season. Our best teams had three things in common. 1. Very good free agent QB. 2. Very good free agent pass rusher. 3. Overall solid Defense. We know what works for us, and we are close.
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:10 am
Baker has the following available for Atlanta:
Mike
Emeka
Tez
Otton
Culp
Bucky
Rashad
Heck with TE help
Points are coming. We got this!!!!!!
LFG!!!!!!
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:12 am
QBs get the attention. They are judged by wins and losses. So far Mayfield has been a good QB in the NFL. I don’t think he’s done yet. Very much a Super Bowl or bust mentality. That’s what you need. But it’s all about the team. We have great NFL superstars. Wirfs, Evans, LaVonte. For starters. Great young players. Fans clamoring for free agent pickups don’t seem to understand we’ve got a team. Everything we need is right here. Licht has masterfully built something here with staying power. Not everyone here agrees with one another and that’s all good. But Baker and the Bucs needed each other. That’s how good things can become great things. Call Mayfield whatever you want to call him. But you sure can’t call him dumb. Keep Trask and Bridgewater. Seasons are long and Trask ain’t done yet.
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:18 am
The difference between these two?
Defenses feared Brett Favre with the ball in his hands at the end of the game. Baker is still looking to find that gear. It has to start this season. This BS that we struggle to play complimentary football, or we don’t play well in throwbacks, in primetime, when we are the favored team etc. etc. We can’t always be the underdog where no one sees us coming. Brett Favre, after winning that Super Bowl early ALWAYS played from the front, rarely was he looked at as the longshot to take the Pack deep. He always felt that pressure of carrying not only a team but also a city. Baker doesn’t really have to worry about those things. Another difference? I think Brett made players around him better, meaning he wasn’t always loaded with talent. Baker on the other hand? I think he needs all the help he can get to win. We will see, there’s a lot of hype about Baker this season. Let’s hope his swag doesn’t go to his head.
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:29 am
Really don’t disaagree with Edmonds. My fear is for Baker staying off the IR. No question about his heart and competitive nature at all but that is kind of why I fear for his health.
Go Bucs!
August 22nd, 2025 at 8:52 am
“I think Brett made players around him better, meaning he wasn’t always loaded with talent”
Farve played with a ton of talented players in his time with the Packers Zoo, on both sides of the ball.
Sterling Sharpe(hof), Andre Rison, Antonio Freeman(Packers HOF), Dorsey Levens, Ahman Green, Robert Brooks, Mark Chumura, Keith Jackson, Bubba Franks, & Donald Driver to name a few. Had some hellified OLs in his time with the pack as well.
Desmond Howard was MVP of SB XXXI as returner.
Reggie White(hof), Leroy Butler(hof), Santana Dotson, Gilbert Brown, & that POS Darren Sharper.
They did however, lose their grip on the NFC central back when our defense was humming & after the Vikings drafted Randy Moss
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:09 am
Sort of agree. Brett played on four teams, the Packers for years. Baker four teams too, but shorter periods. A lot there the same. Baker is still young and at times magical zig-zagging on the field. I too worry about an injury though.
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:43 am
Oh look, Warren strikes again. He says poor little Bakie didn’t throw for enough yardage in a couple of games. Well let’s compare Baker to last year’s MVP and see how they compared together. To see if Warren’s incessant complaing is warranted.
Josh Allen
Games under 200 yards-6
Games over 300-3
Baker Mayfield
Under 200-4
Over 300-6
Oh look it isnt warranted, imagine that being the case 😱
Bakie did much better than the MVP winner!!!
Too bad Warren insists on continually embarrassing himself in public.
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:46 am
To add insult to injury, Bakie had 4 Games with 280 yards or more to Allen’s 2. It’s not even close how pitiful
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:54 am
agree with him
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:55 am
you count josh’s rushing davy? turnovers?
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:56 am
did you count josh’s rushing turnovers sacks personnel etc?
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:57 am
Give Baker an even sub-mediocre defense last year, the Bucs win at least 13 games including the infamous “puntless game” in the playoffs authored by you know who. The only decisive losses were to Denver and Baltimore.
Both Atlanta games, the Niners, and the CHiefs were blatant coaching giveaways. The real atrocity was letting Washington do exactly what everyone knew they were gonna try to do (except Todd apparently) in that heinous playoff game.
August 22nd, 2025 at 10:02 am
No, just dealing with Warren’s whining at the moment
August 22nd, 2025 at 10:13 am
TOP PASSERS
Hurts
Games under 200 yards-6
Games over 300-1
Lamar Jackson
Under 200-4
Over 300-2
Mahomes
Under 200-4
Over 300-3
Jayden Daniels
Under 200-3
Over 300-1
Matthew Stafford
Under 200-5
Over 300-2
Jared Goff
Under 200-3
Over 300-6
Joe Burrow
Under 200-2
Over 300-7
As we can see, there is NOTHING to complain about BUT Warren finds a way!!
August 22nd, 2025 at 10:17 am
Warren, there is a reason we call it “hate”. This little exercise ought to make that painfully clear to everyone and for you especially.
August 22nd, 2025 at 10:26 am
Warren just in case you complain I didn’t put the stats under 250 like you specified.
Games under 250 yards:
Daniels-11
Hurts-10 superbowl winning quarterback 2024-2025
Jackson-9
Allen-9 MVP
Stafford-8
Mahomes-7
Goff-7
Baker-7
Burrows-5
Where’s Bakie?!?!
Oh I see him, silly me, he’s just way down at the bottom of the list of great passers. I thought he would be way up at the top the way Warren was complaining. Oh well, live and learn, right Warren??
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:13 am
Davyboy, I too feel it necessary to defend Baker around here. And can appreciate the gusto of your defense. But anyone can see WBL is a smart football guy and really hasn’t been hard on Baker like alot of these numbskulls. Baker has to be better just like the team has to be better to get us over the line. The good news is that the team from the top down knows that. We’re getting better for sure and it’s going to be a great season.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:20 am
Warren Brooks Lynch,
The only thing cool about you is your handle.
Everything else about you sucks. (At least on this site, maybe you’re fine IRL)
Baker is the 2nd best QB we’ve ever had here, and he’ll be the longest-tenured Franchise QB we’ve ever had. He might even have more success than Brady by the time he’s done here. You should appreciate what we’ve got.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:25 am
Anybody ever hear of Sherlock Homes?
I was gonna give $50 to the person who could answer the easiest question ever posed.
What a crowd!
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:31 am
I was just wondering how OUR quarterback compared to the last 2 MVP winners as far as games OVER 250 yards:
GAMES OVER 250 YARDS, 2024-2025
Baker Mayfield-10
Lamar Jackson-8 2023 MVP
Josh Allen-7 2024 MVP
It is interesting that the last 2 MVP’S didn’t do better than OUR quarterback, one time, not one time. This is why we call it hate Warren. Most, not all, but most of the complaing going on by the usuals is just out and out fallacious gossip at best and this proves it. So you Bois might want to pump your brakes just a little to save what little trust you currently have because it is fading fast. Just sayin my man, TBYT
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:34 am
I think Kyle Trask is the modern day Ryan Griffin. Actually that’s disrespectful to Ryan Griffin. My bad.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:45 am
Kenton, I have NEVER said Baker doesn’t need to improve. I just defend him when someone makes statements that are obviously incorrect and Warren has had his fair share of those statements. We are all adults, I would think that we could put out the facts in a truthful manner. It’s not that hard. Baker is our quarterback and gives his best every game. Have some pride instead of putting out false info for goodness sakes.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:52 am
Yeah, not a bad comparison. I can see some real similarities there, but Baker MUST protect the ball this season. He CAN’T lead the league in INT’s and put the ball on the ground. He can’t continue taking all of these ‘hits’ either, & just take what he can get and then SLIDE. Don’t hold onto the ball too long. Get it out FAST and then keep it movin. Tempo. Pace. Let’s GO. I’d rather see him try escaping the pocket a little more often, too! I think he hangs in there too long, with his Big OLine and Defenders literally ‘two-inches’ in front of him and it just invites way too many bad things… Fumbles, Strips, Sacks, Batted-Balls, (forced) Ints’s, etc. Sometimes, I don’t even see HOW he can see!? Get Outta There, & Let’s GOOOOO!!!! He’s gonna Abe to step up BIG-TIME, if the Bucs are to make another Playoff Run this season… Or, hell, just to even get in. I do feel a little better now, about ATL losing several pieces of their OLine to FA and Injury. Will be awfully tough on “Big-Penix.” Given his injury history, I don’t know if he can make it out ALIVE.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:52 am
Erik, I don’t post for you and/davy’s approval.
Both of you can kick rocks, with all due respect.
I’m a fan of the game first and latched onto this franchise in ’94 when I was 9 years old.
I don’t need your approval, nor for you to tell me how I should feel about my opinion of players on this team.
You don’t like what I type, just cover your eyes when you see my replies in any thread. I’m a team first guy, I don’t worship the QB positon or the players that play it.
August 22nd, 2025 at 11:59 am
Kenton, much appreciated and nice to see there are adults who don’t necessarily agree with an opinion but can still see that the source isn’t malicious.
What Davy calls wrong is what he doesn’t agree with when I say it because it challenges his fandom, that’s why he’s triggered to defend Baker by me saying Brett Farve had a ton of help in his time with the Packers.
Mike Holmgren was also a heck of an HC & offensive mind.
Thanks again, but I can deal with these humps on my own good sir.
August 22nd, 2025 at 12:09 pm
Kenton/Warren, after thinking about Warrens statement I did push too hard, my bad. What you said Warren are the facts. Nothing wrong with the facts. I too hope Baker can improve in those areas.
August 22nd, 2025 at 12:17 pm
“Zoocomics” – that’s a pretty accurate take! Especially, at the end of ballgames (and ‘big’ games versus good teams). Ol’ Bake’s gotta show-up BIG this year, and bring some of these games home. Gotta be a CLOSER. Especially, early.
August 22nd, 2025 at 12:59 pm
If the Bucs can go 3-1 in the first four games and be able to get Godwin and Wirfs back for Week 5 in Seattle, Joe would consider that a major accomplishment.
Last year , Bucs started 3-1 and then went 1-5 the next 6 games
2023, Bucs went 3-1 and then went 1-6 the next 7 games
Let’s see where they are after 11 games before pronouncing major accomplishments
August 22nd, 2025 at 1:09 pm
It’s a little strange how you keep the receipts like that, “Davyboy.” Remembering every comment made about Baker on here, that you consider as being a ‘negative’ one… Also, having such an internal emotional connection with him, that you feel as if YOU must defend him at all times against what you view as negative comments. You act as if it is your mission or obligation to do so, when you said that you were having to “deal with Warren’s whining at the moment!” Like, it’s YOUR job or something! And, I am just wondering why that is!? What’s up with the love and such deep connection with HIM particularly… Did he visit a close ‘family member’ of your’s while in the hospital, or something like that!? I’m just sayin and being serious. Please help ME understand. I am curious, because there have been a few others on here, who I have suspected of being ‘family members’ & etc. With just how quick they are ‘triggered’ over the slightest, simplest little thing(s), even when it is a legitimate concern. So, I am just wondering why that is… I mean like, what does HE do (or has done) for YOU!?
August 22nd, 2025 at 1:19 pm
“Teacherman” says…
“Teddy looked amazing!”
Sorry to burst your bubble, but he had a couple of good throws and the rest of the snaps he looked like a nervous rookie. A 50% completion rate with our group of receivers is why he was sitting at home. Sorry, but with all the great things said about him I was expecting a lot more.
August 22nd, 2025 at 4:09 pm
Davy spitting facts….and youre good Warren, post what you want, thats what its all about. I rarely post but do enjoy taking a dig or two at the Baker haters. I pushed for him just like I did with Brady and it seems to be working out pretty well. Ive been following them since 96/97, 24yrs old at the time. I live in carolina and just couldnt catch on to the panthers, so I loved what I was seeing with Tampa’s D and just got reeled in as a fan for life, 53 now. I think Baker is the best QB for us right now and us the team for him right now…he’s really stepped into his role and taken over where Brady left off.
August 22nd, 2025 at 4:42 pm
The real question is how many championship games Baker Mayfield played in none? And he had the teams to do it in Cleveland he had good receivers, the best o line in football back then. With 2 good runningbacks and a good defense and he won one playoff game just like he has done here so far.
August 22nd, 2025 at 5:05 pm
Melvin, it is true, I do strongly defend Baker, probably, at times, to a fault. Baker has had a tough time of it since being drafted to the Browns but he is still in the game, fighting. He has had to fight to prove himself beginning in college. I, like a lot of people, love a good underdog story. Well, there is no better underdog story like Bakers. How many players have just fizzled out of the NFL when things got tough on them? Ryan Leaf comes to mind. Ryan who? Exactly. I saw a picture of Baker when he was with Carolina, when he was demoted to 3rd string being made to play defensive end. That had to have been an enormous mind job on him. Most people dont recover from something so humiliating like that. But he didn’t quit. I respect anyone like that. I like his love for the game, the effort he puts into it, but more than anything, it’s his grit, his determination, the will he must possess to do what he has done with his little above average athleticism. How can anyone not respect that? He was the first walk-on to win the Heisman, come on, a walk-on…
Is that enough of a psychological evaluation on my sentimentality for Baker Mayfield? I’m not family, I’m not a friend, I’m not even an aquantice, I just respect people that don’t have quit in them, especially the younger generation. And I don’t particularly like it when they are wrongfully accused and they just happen to be on my team.🏴☠️
August 22nd, 2025 at 5:26 pm
Glad to see the discussion remaining civil.
I recall that Favre as a gunslinger had his share of interceptions. To me that comes with the territory. (Of course I hope Baker will reduce his interception numbers. Time will tell. I will accept him either way.)
Go Bucs!
August 22nd, 2025 at 7:51 pm
Davyboy . Are you Baker Mayfield son or his brother because I’ve never seen nothing like this before. It’s seems like you worship Baker Mayfield are something. You have never blame him for anything even though he lead the league in turnovers. In your eyes Baker Mayfield can do no wrong I bet if they were to make you a hall of fame voter you would put Baker Mayfield name on the list lol 🤣 🤣. Baker Mayfield is a journeyman quarterback and you still think he’s elite. In Carolina he lost his job to Sam Donald because he sucked and he proved that he can’t elevate no one and that’s why he’s choked in the 2 playoff games in a row when games were put in his hands.
August 22nd, 2025 at 8:54 pm
Onei, it’s not complicated…well maybe it is for you 2 or 3 haters on here, but this is it….ya ready….when you make a statement be sure it’s true. Yes it is that easy. 🏴☠️
August 22nd, 2025 at 9:04 pm
Onei, you are the broken record of all broken records. That’s the extent of your input. Blah blah blah blah blah. I’ve listed A L L Bakers accomplishment, they are record setting and people love him for the reasons I told Melvin and it drives you crybabies insane. There is nothing you can do but lie about him. The cream keeps rising regardless. And it’s “or” not “are” Onei. Sorry I couldn’t resist.
August 23rd, 2025 at 12:06 am
Thanks for your response. Yeah, I get all of that, “Davyboy!” LOTS of players (and people in general) give it their ALL, everyday. Why do you put all of that onto yourself, and ‘feel the need’ like that, by saying that YOU are “having to deal with” this!? No, you aren’t LoL. He’s just a dude, Man… A 30 year old “Football Player.” It just seemed waaaay overboard and a little insane. Just your tone and pumping-out all of those stats… All of that was pretty intense, Man. There’s no reason to immediately, freak-out and SNAP like that, on everyone. Look, I don’t know what Bake’s circumstances were growing up, but there are LOTS of guys are out there “giving it their ALL,” who have “fought hard,” while facing and overcoming a wide range of difficult circumstance. Current Bucs Players. MANY of them. Guys who have been CUT. Multiple-Times. Guys out there busting their asses, even while KNOWING that they never making the team. And, will be right back out there AGAIN, fighting to earn their spot for next season. What makes Bake ‘so special’ to you that YOU feel to so vigorously defend him… I guess, there must be something. I just don’t know what it would be. Sorry, but I just cannot understand it. He’s just a Football Player. I guess, I just have never experienced such a strong ‘emotional’ bond with any football player like that before. Now, I’ll argue for or against this or that, but always, do try my very best NOT to allow ‘my biases’ to get in the way. But, not like THAT. Definitely not that intensely, over any one particular player. Not even, as a KID. Though, I did use to vigorously defend “Tubby Smith” (at Kentucky) A LOT back in the day (in my early 20’s), BUT he was a very close personal/family friend. And I knew it was his time to go, when the time came. I just wanted to ask about this, because I’ve been wondering about the ‘fascination’ with Baker for quite awhile now! And, I know that you have not been the only one.
August 23rd, 2025 at 8:52 am
Oh, I remember Favre, the Pack, and the dark days of the NFC Central. Saw enough of those jokes, err, games at Tampa Stadium. I like Feisty Bake (sounds like a recipe). The only thing I worry about is he could get his neck broken if he doesn’t start sliding more. He’s sure got the weapons now with all these guys who can catch the football. Let’s see: receivers, running backs (2 for sure), and tight ends. No reason for Grizzard not to open the playbook. We’ll see.
August 23rd, 2025 at 10:38 am
MJ, you took my comment wrong, “dealing” just meant I was spending time on that, nothing more. I have time and I enjoy this. It might seem over board to you but from my perspective, the so called “haters” are the ones overboard, I just enjoy responding to their pitiful attempts to make Baker look bad, it’s that simple, nothing more, nothing less. I have time and a really good memory🤣 this is my relatively new past time. You think I’m stressed out but you are wrong, this is therapeutic. And I “jump” only on the few, far from your “everybody”. What makes me defend him so vigorously? I only defend him when one of these football experts puts out bad information and the times I have been wrong I have apologized, I think that is appropriate. I have NEVER seen one of the BOIS apologize for ANYTHING when they have obviously put out disinformation on Baker. I think you should be talking to them about being honest on JBF. Melvin, you are putting words in my mouth. I don’t feel an emotional bond for Baker, this is just fun, entertainment, that’s it. How can my biases get in the way, I quote stats and think Baker is a great quarterback. I have never said Baker was/is the perfect qb. Far from it. I’m lost on this. So in your mind a person shouldn’t defend someone they respect when they are being publicly ambushed by lesser thans? Is that it? Or is it that they should just defend them like Melvin would? I’ve told you Bois this numerous times, if you dont like me pointing out the errors of your ways, straighten up, put out the truth, it really is that simple. I guess I’m just a stickler for people “strafing” another person over and over again. I could be wrong here Melvin but it sounds like you are only questioning the 98% here not the 2% “haters”. The 2% are the problem, let’s be real clear about that. But I can see you wondering why I do what I do. In a nut shell, everybody should be dealt with honestly, especially in public like this is and there are, in all reality, probably 6 haters here that constantly attack Baker and since I have time I will defend him a little bit harder than they badmouth him with fabrications. So, like the old saying goes, if y’all can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
August 23rd, 2025 at 11:12 am
Comparing Bakers NFL experiences to “many others” Melvin is just not accurate. And few understand this difference, that Bakers experience has been very very public, he has been humiliated over and over again on social media, by sports writers and regular media for years but through it all he has kept it together like a pro that few do. That is rare my friend MJ, rare. Those “others” have largely been behind the scenes. There is a huge difference to your psyche that few understand. That sort of thing is way harder to come back from than just the everyday struggles of life. And if some don’t like me “vigorously” defending that, well, they can go fly a kite for all I C A R E.
August 23rd, 2025 at 4:19 pm
Well said Davyboy. I can understand how some people can hate a sports player and its human nature to be that way so the people that hate mayfield are perfectly entitled to both feel that way and post about it. The problem is that they post either lies or disingenuous comments or disinformation or even cherrypicking to justify their dislike instead of just being honest and saying “I just don’t like the guy”. A good example is the quote “…he lead the league in turnovers”. Technically this is true but its also misleading because the measure of turnovers isnt the number itself but the ratio of turnovers to production. So 41TD/16INT is actually a reasonable ratio. I think there were 4 others with 12 turnovers, how many TD’s did they have ? It must be horrible to be a buc’s fan and have a QB that you hate on the team. I sympathize.
August 23rd, 2025 at 7:33 pm
ForeignBucsFan, tellin it like it is!!!
