Tristan Wirfs Will Not Go On PUP List

August 21st, 2025

Buccaneers All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs will not start the season on the physically unable to perform list.

That’s great news.

Not being on the PUP list means Wirfs is eligible to practice with the team and play at any time. Being on the PUP list would have knocked Wirfs out of all meaningful action through Week 4.

So when will Wirfs play? That’s unclear. His knee may be ready to a degree soon but the Bucs certainly won’t rush him. Joe would guess Week 3, the Bucs home opener and their first game off turf.

Newcomer backup Charlie Heck will start at left tackle to open the season and Todd Bowles showed him love today, calling him a competitor. Joe will have more on that later.

    Finally, a little good news.

So as of right now we are only down J Mac for a significant amount of time. Let’s stay healthy fellas. I truly believe injuries are the only thing that can stop this team from being really, really great!

Do we know specifically what the injury is/was?

Crazy but PFT says cut day is this Tuesday. So did Google. You say next Saturday. Please confirm.

That is great news. If he is medically ready and feels comfortable, he should be out there even if it is a game on turf. This is not the NBA each regular season game has a huge impact on the season. I am sure he will have a brace on his knee even if it is just precautionary.

    Dew,

There aren’t any more incremental cuts, we go from the full 90 to having to be down to 53 by 8/26 at 4pm eastern time.

Great news! Definitely the Jets game.

Thank God! Now, if Chris can make quick, steady progress, we could be rolling again at near full strength by October. LFG!!!

    BEAT ATLANTA!!!

    Thanks Warren

    LFG

ESPN saying Godwin also going to the PUP so a little hope he may be back sooner rather than later

  14. Steven #55 Says:

    Not Going – sorry!

  15. Hodad Says:

I said it awhile back, sticking to it, week 3 at home against the Jets. Wirfs wants to rock those white throw backs!

  16. BucEmUp Says:

If hes not 100% I dont even want to see him in a jersey. This bucs staff doesnt have the greatest history of decision making

  17. Aqualung Says:

Great, this means he can have another unexpected surgery in two weeks and then go on the PUP list.

  18. LongtimeLkldBuc Says:

Glad they did that…but don’t rush him.

Dude! The constant negativity. Come on buddy.

I’m glad he’s not on the PUP list, but will still be ok with Tristan sitting out as many weeks as he needs to. Even if it’s more than four.

I realize that takes up a roster spot we could maybe use someplace else, but I’d rather see Tristan take the extra time to be 100%, than to come back too soon.

And not being on the PUP means he can practice with the team while continuing his rehab. Works for me!

  21. Jeff Says:

Doesn’t mess he starts any sooner. Rest up Trist and we’ll see you week 5. Godwin, sorry your recovery has failed. You had a nice career. Be proud of what you accomplished.

  22. Stpetematt Says:

Neither of them are going on the PUP? FANTASTIC!!!

  23. Stpetematt Says:

This is exactly what I predicted, btw.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

I thought he’d miss 2 games and return, and it sounds like the Bucs are still hopeful on that.

For Godwin, that one I was way off on. I thought Godwin would be out for probably half the year, but maybe just because of injuries they’re going to be more aggressive about bringing him back. Hopefully I’m way off base and the idea was always to have Godwin back before week 4 and they don’t rush him back.

  25. Stpetematt Says:

They won’t rush either of them back. Have way too much money invested in their contracts to even slightly risk causing them any harm.
