Two Pass Rushers Talk Tristan Wirfs

August 20th, 2025

Cowboys All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons was talking about Buccaneers All-World left tackle Tristan Wirfs.

Appropriately, it was during Parsons’ interview for the NFL Network Top 100 Players of 2025 feature. The annual programming reveals results of player votes to determine the best 100 players in the league.

Wirfs checked in this week at No. 28, after ranking No. 85 last year.

“He do it all,” Parsons said. “The fact that he was able to switch from left to right [tackle] and be a first team [All-Pro] on both sides, that guy is unbelievably good. You know, I know anytime I go against him, I gotta buckle my chin strap and get ready to play ball. He’s just one of those guys. He gives a lot of effort. He wants to win. Those type of guys you build around.”

Also in the feature were comments from veteran edge rusher Matthew Judon, who played for the Falcons last season.

Judon says he can see the enhanced confidence Baker Mayfield plays with because he has 100 percent faith in Wirfs. Per NFL stats, Wirfs did not allow a sack last season.

Kudos to Wirfs for the high honor. He deserves it.

As for Judon’s comment, Joe sure hopes that doesn’t mean a different Mayfield will emerge when left tackle Charlie Heck replaces injured Wirfs. Expect Wirfs to miss at least two games with his healing knee, probably three.

Looks like the Bucs won’t be alone, missing an OL, in week 1.

Falcons Kaleb McGary carted off the field a short time ago.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

    get healthy soon TW!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  3. Fred McNeil Says:

I wonder why those 3 other tackles went before him. Maybe Joe will write about it oun day. Those 3 turned out quite ordinary or worse. Wirfs is all pro. I thought it odd that we traded up a single spot, but it all worked out fantastic.

  4. Fred McNeil Says:

Saskbucs, you don’t say. I got a read about it. Thanks for the tip.

  5. First Last Says:

Joe, please write about how the NFC is cooked right now with injuries. Also, the 49ers, Vikings, and Jets are supposedly calling for receivers. Will we keep Palmer or deal him and instead roster Miller/Greene/Jarrett? This is big stuff Joe!

  6. Bobby Says:

Think the Bucs will go 1-3 without Wirfs. This injury will start the season on a bad foot. Lets pray for a speedy recovery

  7. First Last Says:

Bobby, I will disagree, the Falcons haven’t had Michael Penix jr. take one snap, his RT just went down at practice (probably out for the season?), and they have an injured WR that may not start week 1. While that doesn’t sound worse than us, I’m calling that game a lock for us. The Texans didn’t look too hot last year so that is most likely a win. Then we face Justin Fields, who has a tough time against Todd Bowles defense, and Jalen Hurts who seems to also have a tough time against Todd Bowles. I think the eagles will also not be as tough because most superbowl winners have a slump year.

  8. Baking with Grizz Says:

Heck will have the TE and RB assisting him on plays.

    No worries.

  9. Baking with Grizz Says:

Baker will be doing a lot of quick short passes. Bucky and the oline must regain dominance. If so, we got this game. Hopefully, Tez will return it to the house.

    LFG!!!!!

  10. Aqualung Says:

Man, we are so lucky the Bucs superior medical staff knew it was better to have Wirfs get the surgery in February instead of waiting around until the season started.

    Oh, wait.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

I can’t take anything Parsons says seriously after he got so triggered about that clip that made the rounds of Fournette pancaking him – and even though Fournette didn’t repost it, like it or anything, Parsons had to make a big deal about how great he is and that clip was out of context. He might be a great player, but he’s also a d-bag.

  12. ballwasher61 Says:

Hey Fred there were 4 OL taken in front of Wirf. Everyone I read had him rated the best O-Lineman in the draft and had Tampa taking the LT from Georgia, Andrew Thomas, on the Giants. He’s turned out ok but I have no Idea how Wirf made it so close to us. Jason heard rumors someone else wanted to trade with San Fran 1 pick ahead of us and Jason made the move.

  13. ballwasher61 Says:

That is one of the only times I can remember all the draft pundits being right about the same player.

  14. Larrd Says:

San Francisco would have had quite a pair of tackles if they’d stayed put and picked Wirfs.

  15. Jeffrey Becker Says:

judon talking Week 1 smack already

  16. Bucfan1988 Says:

Falcons also lost Storm Norton for 6-8 weeks…
I think he’s their swing tackle backup maybe?????

If that’s the case, I expect Reddick to GO OFF in this game against Penix…

Since Penix is a lefty, Reddick will be rushing his back side!!!

Need minimum of 2 sacks by Reddick in this game!!

    LFG!!!
