Todd Bowles Talks Camp Difference, Baker Mayfield Preseason Playing Time
August 6th, 2025
This hasn’t been a typical Todd Bowles training camp.
That’s what the head coach himself said today on Up And Adams, as host Kay Adams hosted him in a FanDuel TV interview.
“It was different because we went longer,” Bowles said of camp. “We practiced more situational things, as far as short-yardage, goal line, some different things in the red zone, and last play.”
Bowles didn’t detailed what he meant by longer, but he called the totality of camp a strong trial run for young players entering Saturday’s preseason game.
As for those preseason games, Bowles, who hasn’t offered much detail about starter’s playing time, told Adams that Baker Mayfield will play in “one” of the preseason games.

Every year we hear about former coaches and players attending parts of camp. Arians, Gruden, Sapp, GMC, Rice, Alstott, Ronde. Most of the beloved Bucs seem to find their way back …
Except one. I’ve never heard about Dungy visiting One Buc. He lives in Tampa. What’s the deal?

“We practiced situational things”, I wonder if this was in response to the revelation Todd had in the off-season self evaluations. Putting the right things in place will be needed if we hope to win championships.

A different kind of camp could also be because they aren’t learning a new offense for the first time in a few years, so this year they can work on more detail.

@SlyPirate – it wasn’t camp, but Dungy did a video with Bowles recently where they were at the whiteboard going over plays and coverages. It’s on the Bucs YouTube channel
