Haason Reddick: Bucs Defense Can “Change The Narrative”

August 1st, 2025

Haason Reddick

Bucs veteran free agent edge rusher Haason Reddick wants the Tampa Bay defense viewed in a different light.

After a strong practice today, Reddick was talking about a revolution within the Bucs defense. He loves the talent and said,”We can change the narrative as far as last year.”

Joe was highly intrigued when Reddick referenced “narrative.” At some point, Joe was ask him what he was hearing about the 2024 defense. Or perhaps he watched the Bucs-Falcons games?

Joe already wrote this morning about Reddick winning against Luke Goedeke in 1-on-1s. Otherwise, Reddick certainly looks quick and healthy to Joe, but it’s not like he’s dominating practice, which is more than fine on Aug. 1. He appears to a significant upgrade to Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

Reddick seems to think th Bucs defense controls its destiny because all the necessary pieces are in place.

“It’s about how good we want to be and the energy,” he said.

Reddick added that he likes the practice “attitude” through training camp and it shows him the defense is going in the right direction.

Winning against Goedeke in any scenario is very strong sign that Reddick has potential to be a beast.

    LFG

And the ‘narrative’ is that the Bucs D can’t get off the field on 3rd downs or closeout games.

Hopefully those things change this year.

” He appears to a significant upgrade to Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.”…Joe

The minute JTS left the team the position was upgraded.

I hope he can be the missing link to our defense
As Simeon Rice was during our first Super Bowl run

  5. PSL Bob Says:

IF we can improve our edge rush (which shouldn’t be a problem), and with a healthy Vea and Kancey in the middle, we will only have to rush 4. That will greatly improve our backfield coverage. We should see a dramatic improvement in our D this year. 3 and outs for a change. LFG!

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    100% agree @ PSL

If we can routinely get pressure with 4, we won’t be handcuffed to cover 3.

Instead of being obliged to send a 5th man, we can pick and chose while also being able to bring that blitz from anywhere.

We can play more man with 7 guys in the grass.

We can open this defense up a little more. Last year in terms of injuries felt close to 2021 for our defense. When we lost SMB, Dean & Davis for alot of combined time, some of which overlapped.

    PSL Bob and Warren Brooks

Building on that, a healthy AWJ is a massive game changer with a decent pass rush. He’ll wreck offensive game plans.

  8. larrd Says:

Reddick, Diaby, Kancey, Braswell, Dennis, Tykee, Morrison, Parrish, Zyon, Hall, a healthy Winfield …. Lots of reasons to anticipate great improvement on defense!

I’m excited about the addition of Haason. Not LittleMrPeter excited but I’m really looking forward to seeing Reddick turned loose to wreak havoc. Having a player with his ability and credibility is going to give other teams fits…..

  10. Aqualung Says:

From 4th worst against the pass two years in a row to 5th worst against the pass. Hey, a fan can dream big dreams.

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Agreed, Sly

I’m excited to see how he and Tykee mesh in the middle of the field. Them along with Dennis should work like the traffic controllers stopping all that short-intermediate stuff that ate us up last season.

If we can put a check on the middle of the field and make it risky, right along with the ability to actually generate pressure with 4? We’ll be on our way to being better defensively. It all starts up front, that’s our key to success. We get a foot in the door we’ll be a tough out.

  12. Mike C Says:

Man……. That Defense gets going……. Look the Eff OUT!

  13. BucEmUp Says:

Just dont play off coverage all day please

  14. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They better change the narrative because they’re the reason we lost in the playoffs with a Super Bowl caliber offense
